FAB TIME HAD BY ALL - A MUST TO GO BACK TO!
Just returned from a fabulous two week holiday at the Oceania Club. ALL the staff are extremely pleasant and very helpful - nothing is a problem to them. We stayed in a Junior Deluxe Suite in Block 5 which has a private pool in front of it with nice bar. Food terrific in Main restaurant, Italian & Asian - the Greek Taverna is great for your lunch. Beach okay once you get over the small rocks at waters edge. Look forward to going back sometime in the near future.
Back again
We have just got back back from the Oceania Club in Halkidiki. This is our 2nd visit here, we went last September, so was it worth going back to. The answer is a resounding YES,if anything we enjoyed it more this year. We stayed for two weeks this time and enjoyed both weeks. The food is exceptionally good. Rolf is the Head Chef, and he is very much hands on ,He and his team deseve every accolade. The rest of the hotel staff are also trained to a very high standard nothing is to much trouble for them. I can honestly say that they are the friendliest Hotel staff I have ever met. There is only one little niggle that I have and its not really anything to do with the hotel it is the the beach is not very good, It is kept spotless but the sand is very coarse . also if you are going to swim in the sea you will need swim shoes because there is a lot of shale and rocks as you walk in. When you get past this it is okay. Watch out for the sea urchins though when we were there 22 June/6th July there was a lot!! All in all another exellent holiday at the Oceania. Looking forward to going next year!!
Excellent Holiday
My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful week at the oceania club, we were not expecting to much having had several studio appartments before on several greek locations. However we were pleasently suprised. First impression was a clean open reception area made of marble and limestone, the staff greeted us with a glass of bubbley (that relaxes you straight away) The hotel is on several levels so any persons with walking difficulties may struggle if the lifts broke down. The food is excellent with plenty of choice for all adults and children. There is always soup, salad, meat, fish, cheese, burgers, kebabs, sausages, vegetables, rice, pasta, fresh fruit, and desserts. There is also a choice of three speciality restaurants which are Italian,Asian and Greek. You will never go thirsty with an excellent selection of drinks in every bar and restaurant. Children are very well catered for with daily clubs entertainment pools and the beach just for starters. The staff we found to be a credit to thier proffession without exception all spoke english and were extreamly helpful and polite We can not wait to return !!!!!
Brilliant hotel but not for lovers of peace and quiet!
We have just returned from 2 weeks at Oceania Club (1st -15th June 06). Its is a great hotel, smart clean and has brilliant staff who can't do enough for you. The restaurant has a huge selection and usually had enough to satisfy my husband who eats a very limited range of food. There is a good salad bar, freshly prepared fruit salad at each meal and masses of fresh fruit. There are several choices of main meal items and some are cooked in front of you. Everything was freshly cooked and well presented. It's all self service except coffee at breakfast and wine at lunch and dinner, these are brought to you by the waiters/waitresses. You have a different table very time so its best to mark your table before you leave it with something to show its taken. The restaurant is very large and very noisy and young children were allowed to help themselves which was actually quite dangerous as they were darting about and you had to be very careful when carrying soup or hot drinks. We also noticed that huge amounts were being taken and not eaten. There are also Greek, Italian and Asian restaurants. We tried the Italian which was good but the food was rather salty. I also had a lovely swordfish steak at the Greek retaurant but didn't go for their very sugary desserts. The rooms were clean and modern and the beds comfortable. You have a mini bar which is restocked daily with juice, beer, wine and water. If you want anything else you can add to it from the bar or restaurant. They didn't seem to mind you taking food out. I guess there's only so much you can eat or drink and its always available anyway from the snack bar. The TV had CCN, Sky and BBC World so mostly news and weather. The ensuite had a shower over the bath with the dreaded shower curtain but it wasn't plastic and didn't wrap itself round you as some do. For info, there are about 18 coat hangers in each wardrobe, a travel type hairdryer, a kettle and the usual complimentary tea and coffee packets. If you hate the little creamer pots the take a small container and get some milk from the cereal point at breakfast. The air-conditioning is not too noisey if you keep the fan on the lowest setting at night. We were unimpressed with the so called 'sea view', ours was a very narrow band of sea viewed over the top of the building in front of us (we were in block 3). The best sea view would be anywhere in block 4 or in the deluxe suites block 5. Also the top floor of block 2 would have a reasonable view but will still have other buildings below it. The pool area was very good and well kept and the drinks service was usually very good. Beware those of you who like to reserve your sunbeds before breakfast. This is not allowed before 9am. Someone actually goes round and collects up any towels/personal belongings and carts them off somewhere! We didn't have any problem finding one except maybe in the afternoon. The beach is quite narrow and the sand is very coarse. There is also a band of shale along the waters edge which is a bit painful to walk across. Some people were unhappy about this but it didn't bother us. The steps up from the beach are gruelling, there is also a slope. We are in our mid 50's but decided that it was a good way of working off all those extra calories! We never once saw the golf buggy which was supposed to be available to take you up the slope. Maybe you have to ask the security man who is always there to call it for you. We didn't use the spa as it was possibly dearer than here in the UK. There was an indoor pool but we were told that it was actually very cold. We went in to have a look round but were shooed away but the attendant who said we were not wearing the right footwear! The local town of Nea Moudania is not far away and is worth a look. Like many greek towns its not very smart or clean but there is a nice area by the harbour where you can sit to watch the sunset or just enjoy a quiet drink or two. You can get the courtesy bus but beware of people who are inclined not to recongnise a queue. Talking of this, we found the hotel was occupied by about one third each by Brits, German's and Russians. All in all this is an excellent choice for those with a family, especially a young one as the whole place seems to have been designed for them. My biggest gripe by far is that its also said to be for couples. We were amazed that there were so many children as we thought that, during the school term, there would be mainly adult guests. There was absoulutely nowhere for us to go to get any peace and quiet, which is what we needed and what we went for. There were screaming kids in the restaurant, on the beach and by the pool. There were also adults and children returning from the evenings entertainment late at night with not a thought for those of us already in bed. The room above us was occupied by someone who clopped around in high heels when she came in at night and also like to drag furniture about for some reason. The folks on one side had their TV at full volume, we didn't speak their language so couldn't do much about it. I think the hotel should set up a few 'quiet' areas for those who just want to sit and read or relax and put up a few notices to remind folks that not everyone wants to party till dawn and to respect the other guests right to some peace. Just for the record, we have nothing against children, we just feel that it's horses for courses and Oceania should market themselves as a family hotel. If it was quieter we would have given it full marks.
Difficult to beat this hotel
We stayed for 7 nights at this beautiful hotel, on arriving we found the reception desk well staffed with multi lingual people. We never had to even unload our cases porters on hand as soon as the coach pulled up, they would not let us carry them. Our room was in building 4 which is located furthest away from the main hotel which was ideal for us as we travelled with a 2 year old and a 3 year old and we heard no noice at all. The area is very hilly and has steps to the beach but nothing we couldn't handle. Access in the hotel area was great. The childrens pool area was brilliant a very generous sized pool and a small paddling pool with plenty of sun loungers and umberellas. There were plenty of staff waiting on bringing fresh drinks and ice cream etc. You also receive a card for fresh beach/pool towels everyday. The beach was not that good for kids we found the sand quite sharp and no good for the sand castles however the pool area and indoor play area more than compensated. There is a soft play area inside which is air conditioned the kids loved it. The kids clubs seemed well planned and structured although mine were too young to be left alone they were allowed to join in some of the games. Mini disco was fab. The out door play area was well stocked with sturdy slides, swings and see saws, although the sand was the same as on the beach and quite uncomfortable to walk on with sandals etc. Room was of good size and very comfortable, mini bar re stocked everyday with beer, water, juice and a bottle of wine. Which was an excellent touch. The food in the main restaurant was excellent with plenty of choice at all meal times. The waiting on staff were excellent very friendly and efficient. They got you wine and poured it for you when your glass was getting empty. They made a great fuss over the kids which they loved making meal times fun for them, They especially loved the head waiter man (can't remember his name) but he was great with all the kids. We didn't bother trying the other restaurants as the food was to our liking in the thalassa. The spa area looked lovely but never got chance to use it due to being dragged around the kids pool and play areas. |We had a trip to the local town of Nea Moudania, there is a couresy bus most days. Not much there but a pleasant walk along the front where you can see the fish swimming, shops are small and pleasant. Worth a visit for a change of scenery. There are a few little tavernas on the front which seemed clean and pleasant. All in all a very difficult hotel to beat, we will definately return. A great value 5* hotel.
Lovely time at the Oceania
We spent a week at the Oceania Club in mid May, and had a great time. The hotel is of a very high standard, with great facilities and service. Room - our room was very nice. Every room has a sea view and a balcony, and the in room fridge is restocked with wine, water, juice and beer every day. There is also a DVD player in each room - English TV channels are limited though (CNN, BBC News, Sky News & the odd undubbed film here and there), so take DVD's with you if you watch a lot of telly! Food - the main buffet has a good selection - would probably get a bit repetitive if you were staying over a week, but everything is very fresh and tasty. The Italian restaurant is very good - so good we went twice! On nice evenings you can also sit on the balcony at the a la carte restaurants which is very pleasant. We tried the Asian restaurant but were a bit disappointed - everything was very salty. We managed to get three bookings in the a la carte restaurants in a week so space doesn't seem to be an issue. We didn't try the Greek taverna. Facilities - the infinity pool looks great, but is a little bit of a shock to the system as its quite chilly, but its OK once you're in!! There are two tennis courts which we seemed to be the only people using, plus we went on a guided mountain bike tour which was well organised. The gym is also very well equipped and the spa looked very nice. The beach is a bit disappointing - its very pebbly and is a bit disjointed from the hotel, but is very clean. Anyone with mobility difficulties probably won't be able to access the beach (its down a steep slope and then down some steps). Service - this was good - reception staff were excellent and the waiting staff were good but sometimes had to be asked for service/attention. When we arrived our room wasn't ready but it was handled well - they looked after our bags and suggested we grab a drink and some lunch while they finished it off, & we were early. You also get taken to your room in a golf buggy which is quite a nice touch. Entertainment - this is probably the most disappointing aspect - there isn't a great deal to do in the evening, although they do try, with musicals and things like bingo and music quizzes. You can also use the pool table and hire films, plus there is a film shown every night at the cinema (but the start time of 9.30 tends to overlap with dinner and some of the films they show are a bit random). The main downside of this hotel is its location - there really is nothing nearby and we didn't bother with Nea Moudania as our impression driving past wasn't good! There are three different bars to choose from (two inside and one out by the pool). In summary - we had a lovely time and were impressed with the quality of the hotel. It was great value for money, and I think we would definitely go back if we wanted a relaxing week in the sun.
Great Holiday at the Oceania club
Went to the Oceania club 18th - 26th May weather was great!!!. We stopped in a junior delux suit which was quite nice these and the deluxe suit have there own pool area and childrens pool and bar which is a bit quiter than the main pool areas... though we did use the main childrens pool every morning which was not busy plenty of sun beds for all. Our son is sick alot (tonsils)!...and will only eat a few things when he is ill, the hotel made sure these were there for him Doctor on site from 2pm - 3pm The choice of food in the buffet restaurant was really really great lots to choose from salads, rice, bread, lamb, chicken, fish, pork, vegetables full english breakfast every morning if you wanted it cakes desserts morning noon and night. for adults and children. We went to the italian restaurant and had a really great meal there too. Asian and Greek restaurant we did not get to but they looked lovely saw people eating really nice food in them Nea moudania has a few cafes and bars and shops but is not a nice town. Beach lets oceania down alot of stones but free pedlos sunbeds and bar by the beach cocktails and branded drinks served all day long. really nice childrens indoor play area with a disco and dance. Out door park for the kids if you can drag yourself away from the pool and bar. Had lots of bar areas and just behind the greek restaurant was around seven tables over looking the sea which we were the only people using. Car hire avaible just by reception Evening entertainment for the adults started at 9.30pm which I thought was a bit late.
All Inclusive Hit
Have recently returned from Oceania Club Resort in Halkidiki - our accommodation was a Junior Delux Suite - we found the complex to be above normal Greek standards both in terms of the friendly and professional staff and the general overall standard of cleanliness. The location is approximately half an hour from the airport and we used the local taxi service approx 40 euro to go to and from the hotel. The delux part of the complex has its own pool and bar exclusively for the use of the guest in this part of the hotel, although we liked to go to the other part of the complex due to the weather at the time of our visit (somewhat bad for beginning of May very windy) as it was more sheltered in that area, although in the high summer months to sit around the other pool would be an advantage as would be less crowded. This being an all inclusive resort we were expecting the usual standard for a 5* generally 4* but were very impressed overall with the selection we were offered at all meals. It can get somewhat busy during the peak luncht/dinnertime rush, so we tended to go later to miss the crowds. The only negative regarding the main restaurant is that you are not allocated a table on arrival, this can lead to misunderstandings, especially if you both try to get your food togeather, we did this once and came back to our table to find it reoccupied, language barriers aside, bit of a sticky moment. The other restaurants are a bit of something and nothing, and after trying a couple we tended to stick to the main one. The complex is on a very steep slope with many steps both at the complex and down to the beach area at the back of the hotel, this was fine for us 40 year olds in fact I think we came back fitter than we left, and although there are lifts to many of the floors this could be a problem for families with very young children or if you have a disability. Not much to see outside the hotel walked approx 2 miles either side up and down the coast, but then we were only there for a week and generally went for rest and relaxation. All in all we had a very enjoyable holiday the accommodation and food above the usual standard for an all inclusive resort of this nature.
Excellant time at the Oceania
We spent 2 weeks at Oceania last August.Overall we had an excellant holiday. The service was some of the best we had experienced on holiday, having travelled extensively before. The a la carte restaurants needed to be booked as soon as you arrived. Having travelled with a young child the children's facilities were excellant. The children's club was large and roomy with lots of toys and activites. There was also video show in the evenings or minidisco or night walk down the beach for the children between eight and nine pm. Only slight disappointment was the beach. On entering the sea it was stoney. However when over these stones it was lovely and sandy. The head chef in the main restaurant was excellant, lots of lovely fresh food cooked in front of you.
Fantastic holiday.
Wonderful holiday. Staff the friendliest we have met. They work long and hard for 12 euros a day so don't forget a tip before you leave. Food plentiful and varied, led to your table for evening meal, brought drinks e.t.c. Constant staff available to bring drinks to your lounger. Entertainment was concentrated on bigger budget evenings with outside singers/dancers, "Mama mia, Cats, Starlight express" The other evenings much lower budget, quiz night, bingo e.t.c. Rooms were clean and nice although we did speak to people who had paid a lot extra for deluxe and their rooms were only very slightly larger with a sofa crammed in. Rooms had a fridge which was re-stocked every day with beer, wine, cola. The town of Nea-Moudana is very much like Romford. It is NOT quaint, it is not a harbour it is a cargo dock, seriously, don't bother. We went in August 2005 a couple of months after it opened and the only problems we found were teething type ones, e.g. the sun-set cruise was not up and running, the beach party was useless. We loved this hotel and would very much like to return if only we could afford it. If you've never been 5*, as we had not, its a bit difficult to contemplate ever lowering your standards again!
