the one downside to this place is that unfortunatly there is a lot of germans and they are very rude they think they own the place the way they go on
they ARE VERRY RUDE and disrespectfull
as another lady has noted the same in her reveiw
and i think it should be noted when you see the parents letting there children piddle in the pool age 5 and 6 little boys thinkin its clever because there parents laff at them i personally think this is discuting and i wouldnt let my chil in there after i seen that we used the beach
the rooms are very clean and have most essentuals if ur self catering
2007 may have been a different case but i think now 2008 its become more of a german place to be .

Before I start to review this particular Hotel I think that everyone should know how BMI Baby can offer low cost flights. We were a party of 4 with an overall 80 kilo allowance and flying home had 79 kilos overall, but we were charged 120 euros for being 12 kilos over, How is this you may ask, well BMI baby state that it is 20 kilos/person which is norm but what isn’t clear is that it is per case as well. Over three cases we were 12 kilos over, 25, 24, 23 respectively and 7 kilos for the bag. No case should be over 20 kilos.
Anyway back to the hotel:- It is what everyone else says it’s the best hotel I have ever stopped at for kids. They have 5 pools, 1 is dedicated to adults only, with 1 dedicated to kids that has a pirates ship built into it with waterslides etc. My kids loved it and gave my young daughter the confidence she needed to start swimming. Rooms were spotless with regular maid service. The shows were mostly of a high standard with visiting acts, the best was the Irish dancers that replicated Michael Flatterly’s show.
We never ate at the hotel as we were SC. Places to miss were Dakotas and Italian restaurant opposite which is on the beach, do not eat the Paella it’s disgusting. Best meals can be found in the old town, they were superb and were typical Spanish dishes. Other good places were La Taverna, excellent tapas, Gli angeli-good steak and Taberna Donasti really good mixed tapas. Lots of places to see and is ideal for families. There are 2 parts to Alcudia one is the Blackpoolish area and the other, by the port, is quieter but with lots to do. Best Chinese meal was Casa el Dragon which is in the livelier area right on the corner opposite the KFC at the start of the strip. It only cost 8 euros/adult and 5 for kids. By far the best buffet style meal I have ever had food is of high quality.
Places to see is the market in the old town and in Inca which has to be the biggest market I have ever been to, good bargains to have. Driving is easy we hired a car through the internet, Europa Gold, good quality car but they stung me for the fuel, £70 and I had to bring it back empty!!
I found the area to be cheap for booze especially if you brought if from Mercadona, which is the islands typical supermarket, 24 cans of 330ml San Miguel for 5.8 euros, 59cents for 1 ltr of wine, not bad either. 3.5 Euros for Cava. Avoid most of the spars they can be expensive.
Beaches are by far the best for kids and is literally 4-5 mins walk away, but can be bit ‘wiffy’ which is typical but not offensive, No stones or sharp rocks it also has a nice breeze to it as well. Reception staff are mostly friendly except the one with blonde hair, she always had a miserable face.
Overall the best place I have visited, hotel is well positioned with lots of entertainment, however when you leave the kids at the ‘kids club’ be aware that when they do external stuff they do not have a clue who leaves them or are concerned that when you collect them they have already left on their own.

Submitted By: Miss K P Palmathe rooms was very clean but the cleaners very rude indeed but the actual place its self is lovley theres a fair bit of entertain ment for the younger children and water arobics everyday in the pool at 1 o clock witch was fun to watch the down side of our holiday was the german gypsys there was very very rude we got up at 7 in the mornin to put towels on our beds then went to get some breakfast and feed my 10 month old baby.
when we got back to the pool we found that this large family of germans was sitting on our towels on our sunbeds and left them soakin wet we askd them nicely to move which they did and then sat directly in frount of us.
on the edge of the pool eatin chocolate muffins and drinking beer and spilling it all in the pool and if that wasnt enuff they lit up there fags smoking write next to my 10 month old baby sleeping how rude can they get they did move a little further up in the end after having been told many of times they was so rude and there is alot of them there so watch out because they let there children do what they like they broke our water toys and my daughter safety ring very DISRISPECTFULL!!
Its a fair walk to the actual town of alcudia but found a lil short cutt going threw the back streets and the port of alcudia was about 5 mins away from iva itself.
there is a lovly childrens pool with slides and a pirate ship for them to play in.
and a adults pool for over 18 that looked lovley soft double beds all around a large pool.
we enjoyd our holiday over all and would go back.
but the thomas cook airoplanes are a dissgrace we had a very large lady that smelt terible of B.0 sit in frount of us and when she sat down the tray popped open so we had a journey home with a tray in our face.
we had a crash landing back at birmingham airport which there was no apoligy for my daughter banged her head off the tray in frount i think i myself could have landed the plane beter.

Submitted By: Miss K BLocation- The viva tropic is in PORT ALCUDIA- 5 mins in taxi away from Main ALCUDIA and 5 mins in taxi from OLD ALCUDIA. A taxi to main or old alcudia could be ordered from the hotel and cost only 4 euros- its also very easy to walk to old alcudia but very warm! Main alcudia was very english- nice and clean, great beach, had burger king, pizza hut etc if thats the kind of thing you want, also alot of nice looking restaurants but just abit too english looking for us...PORT ALCUDIA inwhich Viva tropic is located is very very nice, classy, very spanish (Although LOADS of germans about- no bother to us though) gorgeous restaurants on the port itself (a pier which extends quite far out) the food wasn't too pricey either- great sea food, pizzas, tapas etc..lots of places to eat- don't be afraid to walk a bit further away from the port though as there are even better places to eat further on if you follow the port around where it becomes more spanish. The beach is wonderful- really calm, no waves, lots of little fish! white sand, sunbeds which we got away without paying mostly! can rent out pedelos for 15 euros for 1 hour too. Old alcudia was interesting, roman ruins, castles, market, few cafes and bars and spanish shops..
Nightlife in port alcudia was apparently tame compared to main alcudia but we were happy to just sit in the bars on the port next to the boats and sea, were really nice, and cool, cocktail bars etc.
Other bits and bobs-
Lifts in the hotel- slightly temprimental- sometimes would be waiting a long time for one but no bother for us we used the stairs
safety box- can get a safe key from the reception (24hr reception desk) 5 pound deposit.
Balcony view- if you don't want to hear kids screaming then don't request for a pool view- better still request a land view and youl get a quieter apartment
Walls- are somewhat thin and we had the misfortune of having a devil child staying on the same corridoor as us- could hear it screaming all night but luckily only on the last 2 days.
All in all fantastic holiday- hotel was very clean no bugs excellent size, a bit too family orientated but the over 18s pool more than made up for that believe me! very nice restaurants and bars by the port, main alcudia is 4 euros in a taxi to get too, very friendly hotel staff, lots fo german and dutch guests with alot less english..we payed 400 pounds each for the holiday and thought it was just the right price if not more than what we payed for- the indoor pool isn't open during the summer but the gym is and looked ok too. Internet room and small supermarket in the hotel too whcih is handy and well priced. The hotel room included a toaster, kettle, cutlery, bowls plates pans-everythign infact.
Definately would recommend for young and older couples because the hotel isn't just for kids, it really is for everyone and you can't miss out on the adults pool!

Submitted By: Mrs AM Monsieurthe food was ok (maybe a bit more vegetarian options for me...), staff was friendly, reception did a really great job. Nighttime entertainment was a bit amateurisch, some really made a fool out of themselves (which is a lauch to). Bar closes pretty soon, but i realise this is a familyhotel, so for an other beer, go somewere else. The entertainment team during the day was very good! if you want to join in, you do, otherwise you dont. its a bit annoying they go around the pool every hour. They were never tired, eventhough you saw them all the time in the hotel! I wasn t such a fan of bufo (mascote). All by all, I really recommend this hotel!

The hotel reception area and grounds/gardens are superb.
The cleanliness is good too compared to other hotels/aparts we have stayed.
The pool area and paved areas are cleaned everyday by an army of cleaners!
The reception staff are quite friendly and helpful.
Good in store Supermarket at not too inflated prices (We found the Spar across the road dearer). But just up the road towards Belle View there is a local supermarket that is very cheap!
FREE washing machines and Tumble Dryer!
The beach is only a few minutes away if you walk through the Viva Tropic's park.
The harbour is within a short walk. Passing many restaurants like Pago Pago (Food not too bad and pricey with drinks, but its worth it to watch and listen to the resident Spanish Band, Teddy Lion).
Air Conditioning Good.
Alcudia - Good Local Bars within a short stroll... Highly Recommended is The Brunel Inn run by John and Em. Their daughter Jaz was a special friend to our girls! We breakfasted there every morning and always seemed to end up there for a nightcap or two :-)
Cheap Taxis.
Boat trips good value for money from the Harbour to Formentor.
Alcudia is a beatiful place and is quiet up the harbour end. For wilder nightlife choose the Belle View area.
BAD POINTS
The kitchen sink leaked but was finally fixed at the third attempt.
The shower had a tendency to overflow during the rush hour!
No Micro Wave.
The entertainment was all over by 10 O'clock?????
The outside bar was so slow to get served by a waiter and you could not get your own drinks (No chance of gettin' drunk :-) ).
The outside bar finished at 11 O'clock.
We was not impressed with the food and you could not sit outside for dinner unless you had A la carte.
Alcudia - We were all bitten badly by mosquitoes (Despite taking repellents) and my better half spent one day at the local hospital.
Expensive Horse Carriages.
Avoid the Local Indian Restaurants. The food is awful and expensive. There were mouse droppings on the plates in one. You will spend all next day on the loo or in hospital!!! Taste of India was the worst meal I have ever had in my life and despite complaining the bill still stood.
Sewage smells from every drain in Alcudia.
Beware the English Scratch Card street vendors. You don't get anything for nothing in this world. BE WARNED.

Submitted By: Ms M ShaughnessyI travelled with my 6 year old son and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone thinking of travelling to Alcudia with children.
The island itself is beautiful and the beach was fabulous, no bad smells as some other people have been referring to!!!! There is plenty to see and do and a definite must see is the Pirate Show, it is spectacular and although a little pricey you certainly get your monies worth!!!

Flight details changed just a couple of months after booking. No problem.
We started off from home at 3am on a Saturday morning. The problem arose when we arrived to book in.
The reception staff at the Viva Tropic said your rooms are ready with a pool view as requested, that will be 10 euros a day, 70 euros for the week each family total 140 euros. We questioned what if we didn't want to pay the 70 euros each. The reply was, but these are your booked rooms there are no other rooms available but we might be able to offer one soon, which was at the furthest distance from all the amenities and nothing else. If you don't take it you may have nothing.
We paid the 70 euros under protest as we thought we had paid sufficient by booking early & paying top money.
After speaking to the staff afterwards it appeared we were being treated second best to the Scandinavians who apparently pay more for their holidays & everything for them was included.
This left a sour taste for the rest of our holiday as 70 euros was basically a night out for three of us, leaving us short of cash.
We explained the problem to the rep but basically pointed out that could do that, showing us the Thomas Cook small print at the back of their brochures that local charges . However it did not identify any charges for 'POOL VIEW', did foe sea view & air-conditioning.
We have booked with Thomas Cook for years and have never been charged for a pool view. If however this has been brought up when booking we would have budgeted for it and there would have not been a problem.
Beware, particularly if you are on a budget as we were! A holday for us was a luxury even though it was only for a week, it was our only holiday.
Advice: Lovelly resort, brilliant beach, great for all the family
Activities: There was too much to say, but the fish was great
Good for: Beach
