We are a family of four and travelled with two other families for a weeks' stay in the Viva Tropic. We had a week of fantastic weather, although towards the end of the week the temperature was a bit too hot!
We found the surroundings absolutely lovely, the pool area was really well maintained with lovely gardens and was clean and the kids loved it. We also found that there weren't many English at the complex, which we personally prefer as you feel like you're more away from it all.
The Viva Group appears to be Scandinavian owned as there were lots of Swedes, Norwegians, Icelandic’s and Danish staying at the complex. (We found a few of the older occupants a bit intolerant of the kids playing by the pool). There were a few Irish there too.
The complex itself is conveniently located to the beach, which was beautiful, clean white sand, and if you read the other comments on the website, no it did not smell!
We took a horse and cart ride one evening to the main part of Alcudia, which we only did once.
We opted for the self catering option. The pool bar did really nice snacks at really reasonable prices. We found some lovely restaurants in the area, Pago Pago was good for steaks and kebabs and the Italian on the corner (can't remember the name) was really good too. Try the Brunel Bar just around the corner, which is owned by a Bristol couple who made us feel very welcome.
The complex was extremely clean and the maids very friendly. All three families were located on the same floor quite close to each other, which was good. As we travelled at the beginning of June, there weren't that many older children staying, but luckily our teenagers had each other to spend time with.
The apartments weren't big, I admit, but if you go on holiday to spend time sitting in your hotel room, then may be you should stay at home. We used our apartment as a base to sleep, shower and change in!
Overall, an excellent holiday which we would all thoroughly recommend to friends and family.

Have just returned from a week’s holiday at the Viva Tropic and had a really enjoyable week.
The hotel itself is very clean and the rooms, although basic, are also clean (we had all you need, i.e., kettle, toaster, cutlery, plates etc) with the maids coming 5 days out of 7.
Never used the pool as we went to the beach but it looked very busy - seems very small in relation to the size of the complex.
We only had food in the hotel once and it was ok, but we did eat at the bar at Viva Golf a couple of times (beside the beach) and it seemed better.
I would definitely recommend Sgt Peppers round the corner (very good food and well priced too). Carabela Steak House and Dakota Tex Mex (near the marina, a bit pricey) were quite good too, but I would recommend avoiding Don Chon Chinese restaurant - not good at all.
The beach was fantastic - I noticed some reviews have commented on bad smells but we found it was worse the further away from the port you were! - and only 5 mins away (use the back gate as it quicker).
The area is generally quite quiet - not great if you are looking for a party atmosphere. Entertainment in our hotel was fairly average, with the exception of 'We Will Rock You' and 'Grease' and finished very early (10-10.30pm). Kids play area is good, with a bouncy castle and the usual swings, slides, etc.
Overall an enjoyable holiday.

We have just returned from this hotel and to anybody who is considering going, don't.
We found it very quiet and think we were the only people under 50 in the complex.
We had a room on the fourth floor and the noise from the maids woke us at 5 every morning. The room itself was very basic i.e. two beds, a bathroom and a two ring cooker.
This complex is located about a ten minute walk from anything in Alcudia i.e. shops bars etc. The beach is a five minute walk away but its dirty and stinks of sewerage.
To make matters worse we had things stolen from our room. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or Alcudia to anyone.
I travel to Mallorca at least 3 times a year and will be sticking to Palma Nova or the west side of the island in future.

We have just returned from one week’s holiday at the Viva Tropic in Alcudia. We opted for self catering so we don't have to be tied down for meal times.
I must say the little kitchen unit was very basic. No kettle, cereal bowls, wine/beer glasses. We felt they don't really like you to try and cook too much!
Apart from that rooms clean, serviced every two days, which was nice. Facilities are good, obviously no kids clubs or activities that time of the year.
Kids did attempt to dive into the lovely looking pool outside... Never again just too cold but as there were not many kids staying at the hotel, ours had the indoor pool (yes it is about the same size as two manholes) to themselves.
Staff very friendly. We tried the breakfast buffet once, all very nice and plenty of choice.
I should think, in the summer when the hotel is full with families, that pool will be absolutely heaving. It's not that big for the amount of rooms.
But overall we all think it was a very pleasant place to stay.

I have been going to the viva Tropic now for the last 8 years and have taken my 2 grown up boys with me each year and they also really enjoyed it and made plenty of friends there.
Hotel is very clean and the reception staff are very helpful especially Victor. Food in the Hotel is fantastic and very reasonable. Lovely Restaurant called Sgt peppers close by and it is run by English people called Dave and Jane and the food is lovely and bar service second to none.
There is also lots of Chinese restaurants and Pizza restaurant. There is also beautiful restaurants up at the Bellview end of Alcudia. Market in the old town on a Sunday which is very packed. Tuesday is a better day to go and it is within walking distance from the Viva Tropic.
Only fault I would have with the Viva is that people are allowed to put towels out early and get away with it even though the sign says towels will be removed (does not happen) I think each room should be allocated one sun lounger

We have just returned after 2 weeks stay at the viva tropic and there is not one bad thing to say the reception staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned 5 times a week and was a very good size.
The whole of the complex was spotless and the children’s entertainment was endless. The reps worked very hard all day and night. Roll on 2007 when we shall be going back.
Do not waste time trying all other bars for superb beakfasts all English products here are wonderful, dinners and teas. Pay a visit to Brunel’s bar round the corner from the hotel where you will get a very friendly welcome from John & Em

The Viva Tropic in Alcudia was recommended to us by a friend and I must say that we were far from disappointed. The first thing you notice about this hotel us that it is spotlessly clean. The cleaners are milling around the hotel all day dusting and cleaning. The other thing you notice is the lovely and immaculate gardens that surround the hotel and these too are tended to on a regular basis.
The apartments are of a decent size and yes a little basic but you only sleep there after all and ours was very clean with maid service 5 times a week. The air-con is room controlled and not centrally controlled like many others. The hotel is situated no more than a 5 minute stroll from the beach. After all not every hotel can have a beach front location, but if hotel cramped beaches is your thing, try Benidorm.
The entertainments team did a great job of keeping you active during the day if you wanted to participate. There are activities for all age groups (kiddies, teens and adults) every hour. Our 7 and 4 year olds had a great time in the hotel mini club. The evening entertainment started off with the mini disco and Bufo (hotel mascot) for the kids followed by another show for the kids such as a Disney show where they actively encourage kids to take part in the shows. Later there is a show for the adults and these were good especially The Flying Team shows such as Grease, We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia, Chicago and many other West End shows. I didn’t see one show that was mimed in the whole two weeks, these guys have got fantastic voices. The entertainment generally wound up about 11pm which is a decent hour for young kids.
We found dinning in the hotel to be very good and flexible. If you’re self-catering like we were, you can eat in the self-service buffet restaurant which was 25 Euro for 2 adults and 2 children and the food was very good. Alternatively, you can eat on the terrace from the al-a-carte menu which was also very good and generally lower priced than the restaurants in the port as with the price of drinks. We had no problems with waiter service and found them very attentive and friendly as we did with all of the hotel staff.
In high season, you do need to play the game if you want sun-beds by the pool. You need to be up before 9 am and seat yourself on one before they’re all gone. There are no reserving beds with towels before 9 am. If you did, your towel was removed and left on the stage (not thrown in the pool!).
During our stay, there was a mix of Brits, Dutch and Scandinavians. Our kids had no problems making friends with all nationalities. If you prefer Union Jack towels and bulldog tattoos, you might like to try the central section of Alcudia where you’ll find an abundance of British type bars selling badly travelled bitter and Guinness….nice!
This is a lovely clean hotel with plenty going on and which is particularly suited to young families with pre-teenage kids. You only have to look at the pictures on the various websites to see this. If the sound of kids running around and splashing in the pool isn’t your thing, don’t book this hotel please, especially next August when we’ll be back. I really don’t want to be looking at any miserable wrinkly faces complaining about noise. Go on a cruise or splash out on the Maldives or something like that.

Hotel excellent, very clean but the entertainment argh! So bad except when they paid for bands to come in, like four tops tribute band. They started making you feel uncomfortable in the bar outside by 11 o’clock, moving chairs, tables and finding it hard to get a drink from any waiter and was barred from the waiter only bar! By 11.30 the lights were turned off! I asked if this was the case in all their hotels and the waiter said yes.
The resort is okay but nothing to write home about. Sea by hotel stinks of rotten eggs but sand is great. 5 miles up the coast (to the right facing the sea) the sea is fantastic, big waves and great fun. The bar food was also better quality and cheaper.
Restaurants were best in the old town (by the church) the greatest ones are the back streets with no chairs outside but secret gardens. Not the cheapest but best fish and steak ever!
Very disappointed with this...

Very disappointed with this holiday, First Choice brochure shows this as a low rise accommodation complex no mention of the six story block where we ended up.
The so called entertainment in the evening mostly consisted of an ill assorted bunch of characters miming and dancing to recorded (in 1962) music. Not impressed with the room we were allocated it was over 100yds from the lift and a bit on the shabby side decor wise.
The resort itself (this is the marina end) has little in the way of amusement for younger children, plenty of bars etc for the over 70s, give it a miss save your brass.

Having had recommendations regarding this hotel from friends who had been with children a couple of years earlier, we were looking forward to our holiday with our 12 year old daughter.
We were disappointed to find the evening entertainment amateurish and not aimed at teenage children, who actually found it embarrassing to watch. The bar service at night was extremely slow even if you managed to get a waiters eye. The room was located next to the service lift, which was used daily by the cleaning staff early, awaking the whole family. If the 4 am refuse collection had not already done so.
The redeeming feature of the holiday was the first class English bars around the corner offering good beers and food - Brunels Bar and Sgt Peppers. Friendly quick service with a bit of a natter.
I would recommend any family with children over 11 yrs old to think twice about going to this hotel and resort, it is both very expensive and difficult to find entertainment for children of this age.
Majorca disappointed us as on the whole, the service levels have gone down and has become a very expensive holiday. We will think twice before returning to the Balearics.

When we arrived at the hotel, the check-in was prompt and efficient. The rooms were larger than we expected, although the balcony was a little small. In the brochure it states that it is "200m from the beach" although we found this to be a bit inaccurate, as you could hardly see the beach from the hotel It was more like a 5 minute walk.
The Viva Tropic is situated near the harbour where prices appear to be more expensive, and the best bit of beach is at the other end, which takes a good half an hour to walk. Even the locals seemed to be aware of the uncleanliness and smell in the sea at the harbour end of the resort.
Although we did not stay for food, the hotel offered a wide range of bar snacks, had a waffle machine and even a popcorn machine. If you have children there is plenty for them to do, including the children's club and a bouncy castle within the play area. However, I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a peaceful week away, as even in early July the sheer amount of children made it hard to relax by the pool.
Any towels placed on the sun beds before 9am were thrown into the pool in order to give everybody a fair chance.
There is an excellent steak house called 'la carabela' round the corner from the hotel, and several nice bars on the seafront with fantastic views during day and evening.
In all, it was a very good holiday, and the staff were very efficient, for example they fixed our air conditioning within the hour when it broke down. Maid service is 5 times a week, although one of those days they failed to arrive.
Beware though, around the harbour prices can be extortionate so make sure you always check the prices beforehand. If it is your first time in Alcudia, make sure you go on the horse and cart as this gives you the chance to explore the other part of the resort.

The resort was beautiful, great setting, lovely restaurants and gorgeous wide beach. The Viva Tropic was only a very short walk to the beach and shops and I felt it was located in the perfect position. It is in the quieter end of Alcudia but is really a very nice resort. It was just me and my mum on this holiday and we thought the resort was perfect for us.
The hotel is very well maintained and cleaned, there was always someone cleaning somewhere and you could tell the staff work very hard at this. There is great facilities, lovely swimming pool, nice restaurant and poolside snack bar.
The entertainment staff work from early morning to late at night and definitely earn their money. I would suggest that this hotel would be ideal for a family. The entertainment throughout the day and night kept the children completely entertained and delighted. Definitely a good family hotel, but you can enjoy yourself otherwise. I was just happy it wasn't a young clubbers hotel which would be my nightmare. I wouldn't recommend it for people looking for this kind of holiday then.
The room was lovely, but we did get an infestation of ants in our kitchenette cupboard which meant we had to keep everything in the fridge which was annoying.
The hotel was a mixture of nationalities, but the British and the Germans were the main clientele from what I could see. I found this to be absolutely no problem whatsoever and I think that it is nicer that way.
I would recommend this to anyone. For a three star hotel this is surprisingly good and a safe bet for anybody.
Alcudia is a great base to travel the island also. We went on several excursions whilst we were there. We booked two excursions with a company called 'no frills excursions' which has an office just around the corner and I would recommend this company, we very much enjoyed our island tour! It was the best excursion! They have a website, look it up!
Hope this gives you a little info about the hotel and helps you.

My family stayed here last year for our summer holiday. We had a fantastic time. Although we had to move rooms after the second night as our room on the first floor was directly over the generator and at night when the generator kicked in everything in the room started to vibrate. I rang the reception in the middle of the night as my 5 year old daughter couldn't sleep and they moved us straight away to another room which was absolutely fine.
We loved the entertainment, our children loved the children’s club which is ran by the hotel. Every night there was a different production to watch and the quality was fantastic. There is also a mini disco for the children every night at 8.30 which was great, we used to go to that and then go out for something to eat.
Liked the resort, the beach was great. Although the one thing that I would say is the choice of food for the children in the resort itself is very limited. Chicken nuggets and chips, etc. The meals never come with any veg which my children love. I wish you could have rise, pasta instead of the chips all the time. I suppose I should have asked I will make a note of that for next time.
We are going back to Alcudia this year and staying at another Viva hotel, so fingers crossed it will be as good.

First stayed at this complex in August 2001 and had such a brilliant time we kept comparing everywhere else to it! We returned in August 2003 to find it had only got better!
The location of the apartments is in the nicer port area of Alcudia which is quieter but still has many bars and restaurants. Still within walking distance to the lively Bellevue area and the old town so you’re spoilt for choice!
The rooms in the are basic but spotlessly clean and have everything you need! The swimming pool area is brilliant, always clean with loads of sun beds for everyone! If you can’t find a sun bed there’s a large grass area not far from the pool anyway!
The staff at the hotel are nothing but friendly and helpful, and the supermarket inside the reception is reasonable. Also, the pool bar serves delicious snacks at dinner time! You can pay to eat in the restaurant onsite. Did not eat there myself but heard the food was good.
The evening entertainment is excellent, everything from grease to ice-skating on stage, and mini discos for the kids! I recommend the drunken duck, a small British and Irish bar. Its worth a visit if you have kids as the DJ is mad!
If you like you're traditional Spanish food there’s plenty of restaurants lining the port. If you like you’re home food then there’s a 24 hour burger king, a KFC, a fish and chip shop and a place called sergeant peppers just round the corner. Great value for money! Also a lovely Chinese restaurant with views over the bay, gorgeous!
Alcudia beach is just across the road and you can hire pedalos etc. Beach is very clean!
Overall I would recommend this holiday to anyone, adult, teenagers or children! I really can't fault the complex and I’m returning for the third time in September 2006!

We arrived at 5am in the morning and I was impressed with the look. Our room was spotless and just big enough for 2 of us! Our balcony was overlooking the pool. Staff were friendly from what contact we had, and the entertainment at night was good! We had dinner there on our first day but wasn’t impressed, so we ate out after that. I would say the 3 rating is fair although I think it could be a 4.
We had gorgeous weather and struggled for space around the pool! It annoyed me when beds were left empty (with towels on) for hours. I would not like to try and get a sunbed in high season!!!!
I was really annoyed on the last day though!!! we had arrived at 5am on the Tue before and on the last day we was told we had to be out of our apartment at 12pm Monday!. Our flight wasn’t until 4am Tues morning so we more or less lost a day! We asked to keep the room on and pay but they wanted 28 euros and would only let us keep it till six! They did let us shower in a room which was great but I always thought you had to be out on day of departure which was Tuesday! If you had children this would have been a nightmare!!!!!!
overall fairly impressed!
But if you are going to Alcudia I can recommend a little fish & chip place (never tasted fish like it! GORGEOUS) it's called Our Plaice located on Carretera D'Arta more or less opposite The Drunken Duck (nice friendly place to) I must have come home a stone heavier!
Hope this helps!
