Arrived for a special treat for my wife's birthday.
Very pleasent staff. Lower floors and stairs very impressive but the room (classic four poster - second floor) was something to be desired.
Furniture was very tired and needed replacing. Curtains were not wide enough to close and the bathroom was a plastic space capsual with no room to move around. We were disapointed with these aspects.
Far too many paintings with Butterflies and flowers on. It spoilt the 'castle' theme.
However, on a positive note, food was very good served by pleasent staff. The views were spectacular.
Was invited into the Ligtbox. Not quite sure what to say except a strange experience. Not unpleasent.
For the cost of £700.00 for the 3 nights with 2 evening meals and 3 breakfasts, it was on the top end of cost which I thought was heavy considering the poor furniture. I expected rather more for the price.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but check what deals are on first before splashing out full price.

I have just come back from staying here and I booked us on a special price winter break excited about staying in a castle only to become a little worried from reviews that said I'd be preached at, to art work thrust down my throat. I decided to go anyway as I like to judge for myself and I am not a lover of "chain same old same old" hotels. Still a little concerned that I'd be jumped and barradged! I Wasn't!!!! I turned up to find it did more than it said on the tin!
SOOO dog freindly is this hotel that my dog was treated like a king there while I was treated like a princess! the room was a lovely size, the view amazing. Yes the toilet was a little cupboard with a small sink and toilet, and shower. It was funny to be honest, I mean how much time did I intend to spend in this room?? Not a lot, and if I wanted there where bathrooms down the hall. The bed was huge, there where facilities in the room others said weren't!the staff did not stop smiling and waited on us hand and foot, Ted was staying while we where there and had a great chat with us. Now this is the strange part if I had believed other reviews I'd have thought he'd bang on about his Art (yes adorns every single wall in the place and why not HE OWNS THE HOTEL!!! what a great way to show off his work) or maybe he'd start a chat about religion....NOPE! He asked where we where from our dog, saying what a good nature he had and how he's face is expressive had we enjoyed the drive, the walks, where we comfortable and everything addequate for us. Not once did he even say "by the way that's my painting" not once! Nor did he ask about our relgion or beliefs I was left the impression he does what he does because he loves it, and he likes meeting people, he likes talking with people not talking at them. Some and only some of his art was not to my taste, yes there where some with Butterflies stuck on, but I don't like these creatures in real life they scare me, however most captured for me what cornwall is about, the greens and blues of water framed by plant life, as if a fairy glen or a lake. Art really is in the eye of the beholder and I will never laugh at what someone produces as art, after all can I really produce something better? or as honest and not contrived, or because some told me to paint a scene but because it's what I felt at the time? No. The music playing did not strike me as "scientologist music" I mean Amy Winehouse?? Andy Williams??! There was a whole mix played, yes the main lobby had John Mappins music playing again why not promote it in your own hotel I would! And the song mythology struck me as being about Camelot ie King Arthur, not anything else. Yes they have a photo of the founder of their relgious beliefs in the hall, so what there are christian run hotels with crucifix on the walls and a bible in the draw, as a Jew I do not take offence to either of these, that's someone elses beliefs let them have them, I wont however judge them as people for it.
My experience of Tintagel town on the other hand was different, nice enough but not interested in anything other than my money unless I had a dog and then they didn't want to feed me with him inside anywhere and looked at me as if I was insane to even ask to eat in their pub or cafe. There are three great things about this town, the castle ruin's with Merlins cave, the cliff walks and the service I got at Camelot castle, I'd advise anyone to stay here and judge it for themselves, I'm really glad I did it reminded me to judge on the merits I see not what others do. to give a better idea of the service, I asked if we could get our breakfast and take it through to the bar so that we did not have to leave our dog in the room (he gets upset if left alone and howls, didn't want to disturb other guests) and the staff insisted on setting us a table in there and waiting on us there each morning, I've never found another hotel that would do this and put themselves out in this way, they also did this for another couple with a dog also!

My wife and I were doing a 2 week trip around the UK with our 2 grandaughters and this stay in a "castle" was to be the grand finale. We should have researched the history of this place first as we did not know that it was only built around 1904, that it was now owned by scientologists, and that it is not that well maintained for a castle. The pictures on the website are very deceiving. Our rooms on the 2nd floor had very small plastic bathrooms and shower stalls with only a plastic curtain. They were something you would expect in a travel trailer and not in a castle. For the price, it was expensive as it cost us approximately $200 canadian/night for each room. We did avoid the resident artist as the art work that adorns every wall leaves a lot to be desired. As for the "light box" I can only say that our grandaughters found their experience strange and amusing.
On the upside, the rooms did have a million dollar view, the foot trails are many and local scenery is breath taking. The little town of Tintagel is beautiful, warm, and friendly with many shops and restaurants.
The staff at the Castle were friendly, polite, and helpful.

A friend and i booked 2 single rooms recently at Camelot castle. I can honestly say that it was a strange experience and unlike no other hotel i have stayed in before.
On arrival we were given our keys and then had a brief tour from a staff member. She was enthusiastic and polite and wasted no time in asking us if we liked art as the resident artist was in residence and if we were keen we could view the infamous lightbox! When questioned over what this was she told us she couldnt possiblle ruin the suprise!
We were then left to take our luggage to our rooms which were on the second floor. Oh my goodness, what a shock they were. There were numerous flies in the room and the bathroom was a joke. It was similar to the size of a caraven toilet but also contained a shower and sink. No room to even move!
We complained and without question were given 2 more rooms on the third floor. I have to say apart from being dark they were an improvement. Clean and tidy with a bigger bathroom and an actuel shower with glass doors and not just a curtain.
Throughout our stay we were aware of the scientology connection, from the music playing to the numerous magazines and papers lying around.
The staff of which none were English were pleasant, polite and helpful but appeared very reserved and never smiled.
We saw the artist Ted but managed to avoid the light box experience after googling it and reviewing it on the internet.
His paintings were truly childlike. Glitter pen and glue with stickers of bugs, butterflies and other creatures on them! Oh and they were everywhere!!!
The hotel is in great proximity for local amenities and the beach but they state they have a private beach and this is totally untrue. Oh and a cup of coffee in the bar is £5.
We spoke to many locals during out trips out and they all had negative opinions on the Hotel.
It could be a fantastic place but instead it leaves a lot to be desired.

For our 10 year wedding anniversary i decided to book a night at Camelot Castle, we had visited Tintagel before and had seen how impressive it looked from the outside.
When we arrived we were shown around the downstairs by the receptionist who was forgeign and i could hardly understand and word she was saying.
we decided to go out and explore cornwall.
When we returned we went into the bar area and was told we could have free welcome drinks, we went into the bar area and another forgeign worker tried to serve us our drinks it took 5 attempts for him to pull 1 pint of larger. no conversation was made and i didn't feel at all welcomed.
One of the owners arrived and had a heated discussion with a member of staff for over 30 mins.
We decided to have another drink another bar staff member served us and this time it only took 3 attempts.
We went up to our room, oh my god the view was excellent, but i booked a double and we had two singles pushed together and all we had was 2 blankets that looked like they used to belong to the NHS. I had 20 minutes sleeps as was freezing and kept falling down the gap between the two beds, when i mentioned this to the receptionist in the morning she didn't even say sorry. The pod in the room reminded me of a caravan, not worth £100 per night. Would never stay here again.

We decided to stay at Camelot Castle Hotel as a treat at the end of a poor weeks holiday in Brixham, Devon. My husband and i had both been poorly with a sickness bug, so hubby decided we would stay at this lovly hotel as a treat to make ourselves feel better before returning to Kent. It was a miserable day, raining and windy. We booked in and went to our room, brilliant we had a beautiful 4 poster bed, very comfortable, we had an exquisite bathroom with a big bath. Views over the atlantic and side views of Tintabel Castle. Couldn't wish for more. Time for dinner, food was excellent along with the service, you could not fault it. The artwork on the walls was beautiful to say the least. Well done to Ted Stourton. The owner made the effort to talk to everyone that evening along with Ted Stourton. the only fault i found was that we had to leave the next morning. Very tranquil and relaxing.

We stayed for two nighs here and all I can say is don't bother. The room was filthy, with peeling wall paper and a bed with a matress that hadn't been changed since the 1970s. We complained the next morning and were put in a recently decorated room which was marginally better, but not much. There were several people complaining that morning.
This place comes with a huge health warning. The glowing reviews of the hotel on other sites are very misleading and I totally question their validity. You will also start receiving emails from the hotel after your stay with scientology propaganda. You have been warned...

I agree if I had paid over £100 per person I would have been p'd off about the en-suite "facilities", the portapod bathroom, but our room 102 was clean, bed linen warm and pristine, new carpet, table and chairs that we moved over the window and had a couple of bottles of cava. Maybe the view did it for us, but it was tolerable for £49 each and not the worst place I've ever stayed by a long shot. Though we did giggle our way throught the whole stay. We managed to avoid the scientology hard sell, perhaps we should be insulted. Maybe we're not made of the right stuff. Stay for one night only though, there are lovelier B&Bs with better breakfasts all over Cornwall. The view here is gorgeous but the artwork, well that's best left untouched. Glitter paintings are best left to schoolkids.

After visiting the Camelot Castle website, we were really excited about our stay. It looked just what we were looking for, a place to relax in a place set in a beautiful location. On the drive up to the Castle, it looked very grand and the website is right, it is set in THE most beautiful location, right on the edge of the Atlantic sea with panoramic views. The website was 'believable' and everything about the castle seemed 'normal'........ until you went inside. (Think of the Twilight Zone) From the moment we went into the reception area, something just seemed really really weird. Like you had to get out of there! The reception was a small booth in the corner as you walked in and the whole lobby area was covered floor to ceiling with photos of celebrities or should I say 'Friends of Camelot'. The whole place had works of 'Art' that looked like something my 16month old could do. We since found out they were created by the resident artist Ted Stourton?? We'd never heard of him and i think that was made clear when the Owner of the place John Mappin, was talking about him as if the whole world knew who he was! The people were very 'Robotic' and not at all helpful and the room well.... lets just say the words 'Static Caravan Bathroom'!!! It was a pod of somesort sitting in the corner of this room that had a foul smell of urine from the moment you opened the door. It was like stepping back in time! We were greeted with a poem on the bed, written by the owner and an in-house newspaper that basically summed up our suspitions. These people were preaching Scientologists and once they had got you there, they were going to try and 'Convert you' once you'd visited the 'Light Box'! Luckily we never got this far! There was nothing in the room to tell you about the history of the hotel, places to eat and places to visit whilst you were there. All of the windows were painted shut and there was no information on the fire exits either. The only positive thing to say is that the bed was very comfortable! We had originally booked for a 2 night stay but cut this short and stayed in the Cornishman Inn in the same village and it was lovely and NORMAL! We are putting this one down to experience but would say NOT to book this weird place if you don't want your holiday ruined. Camelot Castle is not on the Cornish Tourist ratings but someone needs to investigate this place!! Tintagel is lovely, so stay in some of the other B&B's and don't let the grand exterior of the Castle fool you!!

My husband organised a three night stay at this hotel to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Unusually for him he did not research the reviews, comments of others who had stayed here. However, our room was lovely, huge comfortable four poster bed, beautiful bathroom with jacuzzi bath, walk-in shower and his and hers basins. (Bizarrely, neither basin had a plug!) We both found the room too hot but were able to open windows. The overall feel of this lovely room was ruined by the huge, gaudy "artwork" as was the rest of the building! Sorry Ted but the disparity between the style of your art and a Victorian castle is jarring and annoying. The food was fine but not particularly exciting, I only tried one dessert which was supposed to be creme brulee but was like sweet scrambled egg, not very nice. Other negatives were the lack of information about the surrounding area and the history of the building. Room service was very minimal (no breakfast in room for example),no newspapers provided. The staff were very accommodating, helpful and polite but we found it very strange that they kept asking us if we knew Ted, were we friends of Ted's! The whole atmosphere of the place I can only describe as odd and a little unsettling. We were both rather amused by it at first but by the second day we were feeling uncomfortable and decided not to stay the third night. Luckily we live in Devon so the decision to leave was an easy one to make. I would not return to the Camelot hotel and would not recommend it.
