Okay, I read the reviews before we went (mid-April 2011)and was a bit concerned by some of them. Alvor itself is of course stunning, but this review is supposed to be focused on the accommodation. Alvor is easily walkable from Ferias Appartments if you are able to do... more

Poor standard accommodation and service
Stayed in the Alvorferias 12 years ago and experienced a high standard of accomodation. We were very dissappointed with our recent visit. The standard of cleanliness very poor. Cigarette ends etc around the pool area and you seldom saw anyone cleaning. Also you had to pay for the mats for the sunbeds. The shop selling refreshments by the pool closed during our stay. In our apartment the towels were changed twice and bins emptied twice. In one of the wardrobes we did not used there were shoes and a shirt left by a previous guest. Some guests arrived and their room not ready. The courtesy room we were offered to shower and change prior to our departure was dirty and foul smelling. Would not stay in it again or recommend it.
Nice relaxing holiday
Just returned from a week's holiday to the Club Alvorferias apartments. It is the third year in a row we have stayed there. We stayed on the reception side again. The apartment was clean and everything worked ok. I would agree with some of the other reviews regarding the noise. I travelled on my own with my 2 sons aged 7 and 9. We usually got back to the apartment about 11.00 pm. I was woken a few nights at around 3 am with rowdy people coming back to the apartment above. The entertainment on site usually involves karaoke and live music - not really my thing so we headed into town every night. Alvor is beautiful - as it is our third year visiting this resort, we knew our way around. Enjoyed going to the Alabar restaurant - the one on the corner. The Salva Vidas was also recommended by a local resident. We like going to Pizzeria Piccolo Mondo on the main street - delicious pizzas and very good value for money. Also tried Goodville. Please be aware that the official check in time on the Algarve is 4 pm so if you are on an early flight from the UK, your room will not be ready. We arrived at the apartments at 1.15 pm and our room was available at 2 pm. We went on the Best of the Algarve trip which was really interesting - visited Silves, Monchique, Foia, Cape St Vincent and Lagos. We also took a trip to Zoomarine - highly recommended. Not sure if I agree with the comment about not walking back at night. I have walked back from Alvor for the past 3 years and feel safer there than I do in West Yorkshire. I certainly wouldn't walk around here on my own. All in all an excellent holiday and the Club Alvorferias is a great place to stay.
Will Be Back.
My wife, myself and two kids had a very enjoyable stay at Club Alvorferias during the first two weeks of August. It was our first time and certainly won`t be our last. The rooms were clean and spacious. The pool scene was very good for the kids. However i should say that the absence of a Lifeguard was a bit worrying. The town of Alvor was just beautiful. The restaurants all were fabulous. Some notable ones were,Salva Vidas, situated on the waterfront by the Lifeboat House.Goodville and Vagabondo opposite each other on the main street up from the waterfront. The Lusitania,The Captains Table and Adega D`Alvor also worth a mention. The Irish Bars were also lively places to go for a drink in the evenings. One of the many trips we went on during our stay was the Sunset Sailing trip with Toby,Joao and Joe on the sail boat The Trigana. This was very enjoyable and the crew were brilliant. Thanks Toby. The Jeep Safari to the mountains was also one of the highlights. Our driver Miguel was a breath of fresh air.Worth a Looking into.Last but not least was Luis Lourenco, the owner and skipper of the Novo Alvor. On our last day my son and i went on one of their half-day fishing day trips. My son who is Eleven caught his first fish from a boat so it will be a very memorable trip for us. We hope to go back to Alvor again next year as there is soo much more for us to do there.
Managemant were excellent Location was great !!!
We had a lovely time from the moment we arrived the Management were very helpful including one gentleman who took us to our apartment and Olga who was so obliging nothing was too much trouble a lovely lady. we stayed at the other side of the resort over the bridge which was much better and quieter. The pool was better and my children met some realy lovely friends which really made the holiday. Alvor is only a 8-10min walk or 5 euro taxi what a lovely town and so untouched . The seafood was exellent and so were the views a lovely place and I will definately go back. The only thing I would change is the pillows they are awfull not sure what they are stuffed with!!!!! make sure when you arrive you ask for the air con remote you will have to pay a small deposit but well worth it and really easy to use!!! there is a television remote but my kids were too busy playing in the pool ito use it. Bestday - no way!
Just returned from a great holiday in Alvorferias apartments, Alvor. We stayed in a very clean and spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom air-conditioned apartment with a fairly large garden - more like a small villa than your typical apartment. The lady in reception was especially helpful. My only complaints regarding the apartments was that there was a soft porn channel on Sky tv in our apartment - totally inappropriate for families with young children and the music in the bar was much too loud - we would have liked to have had a few drinks there each night on our return from town but couldn't stand the volume of the music. Also the pool area on the reception side is too small for the number of people using it. Finding free sun loungers was impossible after about 9.30am. Alvor is a lovely town - lots of great bars and restaurants and plenty of excursions available. A word of warning on excursions though - 10 of us booked a trip to Silves/Monchique with Bestday Travel Agency. We stood in the hot sun with no shade for 50 minutes waiting for the bus. 1 of the party returned to reception to check why the bus hadn't arrived - the receptionist phoned Bestday and was told that the bus was full! I wouldn't advise anyone to book an excursion with this company. Also, I would advise young girls not to make the 10 minute walk from the town back to the apartments late at night alone. One of the young girls in our party was approached by 2 young Portuguese men who appeared suddenly out of the bushes and although she wasn't harmed she was terrified. Safety in numbers!
Alvor ferias ROCKS!!
Hi there, went to alvor for the 3rd year in a row and stayed at the alvorferias apartements for the 3rd year in a row to. i booked the apartment and the flights myself because this was alot cheaper than any package holiday i could get. I have now stayed in a 1, 2 and 3 bedroomed apartments at this complex and they exceed the expectations i had all 3 times. i have been over the road on the quieter side for the accomodation which i find is better cause you do not get any noise at night and it is quicker to get to when you are comming back from a night out and you need that after a few large beers in the lively town. The rooms were cleaned everyday except sunday and the towels were changed often enough and the kitchen was well equiped with microwave and pans tc the only thing i have noticed that they need is an electric kettle because you have to use one that you put on a stove and this takes for ever and they do not give you matches to light the cooker so when you get there and you get teas bags from the supermarket you dont get matched and you cant have a cuppa but thats manageble lol. Great place i go every year now and i know alot of the sdtaff now cause this was my third trip it is the only place to stay in alvor thumbs up :-) tony uk
Fantastic Apartments.
Took my family which included two teenage girls and a five year old boy to AlvorFerais on July 24th of this year and was pleasantly surprised. To start with, maybe we were lucky, as we were positioned 'over the road' which was quiet and next to the bigger of the two pools, and we paid extra for a three bedroomed appartment. Our appartment was probably the best we have ever stayed in, we live in a four bed at home but the space in all three bedrooms, two bathrooms (one en-suite) kitchen and living room was bigger than our whole house put together! TV with Sky News and BBC 1, clean rooms, towel and sheet changes reguarly. Could not fault the place. Air conditioning is available in all apartments and you DO NOT have to pay, but place a €25 deposit at reception for the control gun! We did hear that the appartments in the main block were a little bit noisy and the pool on that side was a bit smaller and 'livlier!!' Good supermarket on site (a little more expensive than in town but not by much) The only thing the place does lack is a good bar area and entertainment in the evening. With young kids aftera meal out its sometimes easier to go back to the hotel to chill - the only bar and entertainment was indoors (Very hot!) and virtually non existant - however not too much of a problem as the main Alvor Town and Harbour is about a ten minute walk away. Beware though, down hill going, up hill coming home and after a few beers and with kids that can be a pain! Alvor itself is beautiful - some quality resturants offering everything you can imagine, very child friendly yet more up market than your average holiday destination. Down the harbour, all the resturants cook outside which is amazing to see and smell! Bars galore, although nothing against the Irish, but they have taken over the bar availability, seemingly all are 'Irish' bars with the exception of a couple of general drinking places..great the first time you hear live Irish music, but they seemed to have the same singers on all week every week! For a trendy bar try XL Bar, which starts buzzing from about 10.30pm each night The beach is big and windy, no chance of having to reserve your space as it has ample room to fit in the population of Portugal! BUT, it is a good half hour walk from the appartment so we stayed by the pool most of the time. Had a great day out at one of the water parks, 'Splash and Slide' but book your tickets in the Alvor town as they are discounted and include free transport, saving about €10 on the holiday companies. All in all a wonderful place, and for £2100 for five of us in a 3 bed including flights and transfers for ten nights represented remarkable value.
The travellers guide to Alvor & alvorferias.
Hi, We've been to the alvorferias twicw now (& once at Pestana Alvor Park) & we are returning to the same hotel again in 9 weeks. We don't expect above 3*, we have stayed on both sides of the bridge now & I must admit, I think I prefer the opposite side to reception. We like the hotel & can't really knock the staff. The rooms are generous & even the cleaners can let on when you get talking. The restaurant lhe last reviewer was talking about is the grande Murala. We have gone at least twice on every visit & have been exceptionally happy. VERY nice food & VERY polite. The Carvery is great too. Really good with the kids. OOOO another one for you all is the phoenix. British run & great value for money. Make sure to pay a visit as when we were there in february, he was setting up a card shop. If you are fairly confident in water, then you must try Slide & splash. We really enjoyed it last year. You can spend a whole day there if it's your thing. If you happen to be there on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. go & have a look at the gypsy market. it's round the back of the Alvor park. It's HUGE, we spent a good 2 hours quickly looking round & still didn't really get to see it properly.
What is sleep?
I honestly don't know where to start so I'm going to start with the bad things and move onto the good. I have to say I'm not one to give bad reviews unless they are deserved. Let me start by telling you the further you have to walk after check-in, the better. Our apartment was in the block right behind reception and myself, my husband and our 9 year old daughter did not get one good night's sleep for the full 2 weeks. I spoke to others who were based on the other side of the main road and they said it was lovely and quiet. The place was full so we couldn't get moved. We did complain but the staff are limited to what they can do when approaching Irish and English teens and adults locked out of their heads. If you are aged 14 - 16 and fancy getting served easily at the bar, sitting outside roaring and shouting with your friends while your parents, for some reason, don't give a stuff about where you are or what you're up to, then this is the place for you! We were even treated to an "x-rated" performance on the grass under our balcony one night by two kids who couldn't have been more than 15! I was appalled by the number of young children who were let run wild around the complex while their parents sat by the pool. In light of recent events in the Algarve, I expected people to be over protective and weary but it was quite the opposite. Kids were let down the supermarket on their own as well as hanging around outside reception. The bar is a joke. It stinks and the entertainment is mainly for the kids so unless you have small kids with you best to head into Alvor each night - literally a 5 min walk from Alvorferias. We spent most of our days at the Pestana Viking hotel about 30km away after buying holiday ownership. Thank god we had this place to escape to during the day because there is no chance of catching any sleep by the pool in Alvorferias after yet another sleepless night! Ok enough. I could go on and on but I want to point out some good things. The kids club run by Donna is great although very small number of kids attended. Our daughter loved it and is missing Donna so much since we came home. It runs from 10am to 12 and again from 2pm til 4pm Monday to Saturday. Donna also has a mini disco for them from 8pm - 9pm Monday to Saturday. The food in the snack bar, but mainly in the restaurants in Alvor, was great! We ate like kings. I can highly recommend La Piazza (reeally cheap), The Blue Reef (more expensive but fantastic variety), India Hut 1 (nicest meal we had was here, not cheap but worth every cent), The Carvery (all you can eat 9.50 although when we went back for more we felt like scabs because we had to ask as the girl had the food all put away under the counter!) and a Chinese all you can eat for 9.50 buffet including desert on the road to the right of the Carvery, I can't remember the name but again, delicious food. All are great value for money. Alvor is great. A small town with a harbour and 2 main streets for shopping and eating. Plenty of pubs aswell. There is one called the Black Stove which we only found out on our last day has a basement games room for the kids and upstairs in the bar there are lots of screens where you can keep an eye on them while you have a few drinks. Great idea. Zoomarine is a must. Well worth the money - great shows, fairground and shops! Go see for yourself. The apartment was a great size. Much bigger than we expected although we couldn't work the air conditioning so had to sleep with windows open which didn't help with the noise from outside. I would not hesitate in going back to Alvor (if only for the food!) but would definately not return to Alvorferias until they change their policy regarding noise levels at night - it really wasn't worth it.
