Arrived the second week of September (2nd year of visiting this hotel).
As always the reception staff were friendly and helpful even at 4.00am in the morning. The apartments are a credit to the cleaning staff, totally clean and not a thing out of place.
The restaurant food is A+ if you go for the set menu, or the buffet which is excellent value for money. The staff are also A+ , always at hand to be of service.
The views from the hotel of the resort and the sea are breathtaking. Both pools are large and really clean with a snack bar in the day.
The resort itself has excellent weather with two great beaches within easy reach. There are loads of bars and restaurants in the nearby shopping centre in Puerto Rico.
Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

From the very first we entered the resort we knew we would have a great holiday. The reception staff were very welcoming and humorous and directed us to our apartments. We were on level 5 with fantastic views over the pool and out to the coastline. We had a huge balcony where if you wished you could have stayed all day and enjoyed the sunshine on your own sunbed, or simply read a book under the shelter of your parasol.
The entertainment each evening was first class and enjoyed even more so by the happy hour which was from 5.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. The entire staff (in particular the entertainment crew) of the development were very courteous and helped you make the most of your holiday.
The Kids Club was also a great addition to the holiday in that our travelling companions had a son of 6. He was more than happy to leave our company and go on his own to the events held within the Club.
The restaurant was excellent and close by (500 metres), there was a shopping centre with restaurants and bars as well - never had a bad meal yet.
Taxi fares to the town of Puerto Rico (we walked down, but needed a taxi back up!) was on average only 3 euros.
All in all a fantastic holiday and one which we will remember for a long time.
N.B. I would have given this a 10 however some people might be put off by having to use the lifts to get to various parts of the complex - it didn't bother us in the slightest.

We had a lovely apartment at the Altamar. There were two big rooms both with patio doors and ceiling fans, and a large bathroom.
Everything was very clean and the maid came six days out of seven - she even did the dishes.
The apartment is near the Europa Centre which has lots of nice places to eat. There is a large netto there, but the Altamar has a very good Ppar shop of its own.
We took a taxi to the beach cos its a long way down the hill, but it cost under 3 euros. The beach was very clean and nice, with toilets and loads of little shops and cafes.
Would recommend the Altamar and would go again.

My two daughters 15,18 and I visited the Altamar Aparthotel on 11th August and arrived back on the 19th - we went for one week.
As we arrived first impressions were good and the hotel is kept clean. The complex is complicated as set on a hillside so the reception is on the top floor (level 6) and the pool is at level 3 - you will get used to it!
There is a supermarket just by the reception and this is very handy as you don't have to walk out your hotel to get those essentials.
The rooms are cleaned every couple of days. There is a television - one euro an hour which is decent. You access the room by the balcony, which is quite strange. Anybody can walk on to your balcony - but no one does.
This wouldn't be good for the disabled as it is too hilly. One mention of the lift - Hold on! When it starts and stops, it doesn't go too gently and you might bump into someone!
The location is good. You can walk 10 minutes to a small shopping centre with plenty of bars, arcades, internet access, shops and restaurants. You can also get a taxi to the main shopping centre - this will cost around 3 Euros. There’s a lot of entertainment and more choice, and even a McDonalds.
I must recommend the Mau Mau Restaurant which serves delicious chicken , salad and chips for under 4 Euros!
If you are going to this hotel you shouldn't have any problems, and the holiday was great.

Just wanted to say to anyone visiting this website, that our holiday at the Altamar was one of the best we have ever had and would recommend it for good value, entertainment (Big Gazza you're the best), cleanliness, friendliness, location.
I could go on and on. The views out to the sea are breathtaking and the apartments are spotless.
We visited the Europa Centre and can recommend the Chinese eat as much as you want for 4 Euros and 80 cents, the food was fine and the staff friendly.
If you still want your English food then take a trip to the Barbacoa which is on the way to the Europa Centre, it serves a mean Carvery and the entertainment is good.
If you get a chance to watch Chris Mooney then please do, he is a talented guy and his rendition of Lord of The Dance on his guitar is something not to be missed. He does a show down at the Altamar so be sure to ask Big Gazza when he is due on.
What else can I say if you book to go to the Altamar you won’t be disappointed. Have a great time and we might see you there next year. We have booked to go back again.

Altamar Apartments were excellent - very clean and regular towel/bedding changes.
The only downfall would be if you were not the fittest of people as the stairs to get to your apartment, even given that there is a lift available, could be a bit of an issue.
The only down side to our holiday were the rude, ignorant and uneducated English children whose parents did not seem to teach any manners or people skills too.
I have been to the Altamar Apartments before and would definitely go back and recommend to family and friends. The staff and entertainment could not be faulted.

We were very impressed with the one bed apartment and the size of the balcony, it was very clean and very well equipped with items in the kitchen, a large fridge/freezer. And lots of cupboard space throughout.
We arrived at 4am and received a large bottle of water from Reception, which was well needed. The Reception staff were very helpful.
The Kids Club was brilliant and our children really enjoyed it, the Reps were great! The only downside was you had to queue early to guarantee a place, as there were only limited spaces, but it was a lovely big air-con room, which got the kids out of the hottest sun.
The food was very good and allot of choice each night, but with having two weeks there, it was the same again the second week. But we had a choice to eat there or not, as all restaurants and bars were only a walk or short taxi ride away.
The only other downside to the Altamar were the lifts (as stated by others), very slow and only two on site to 6 floors, and as we were on the bottom level and we had a buggy, we had to wait quite awhile each time.
Overall a great place to stay, with great views, great kids club, with good entertainment on site and in a great resort. I would recommend this to other families.

Very nice apartments. Well furnished with good bathrooms, very clean and the most brilliant views overlooking the sea.
The biggest balcony we have ever had with sunbeds umbrella and table and chairs. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The pool bar was very cheap having two happy hours a day and the entertainment with Gazza was good.
On the down side the pool area was just a bit too busy, and we had the buffet one night and this wasn't good.
Overall we had a great holiday and it was excellent value for money.
The nearby Amordoras Beach although man made is very good and has lots of good bars and restaurants, the best one being The Beach Club.

Have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Altamar. On arrival the apartment was basic but very clean. The only negative point I can mention is that the kids had to sleep on a pull out sofa bed which was a pain to keep pulling out at night and not very comfortable.
The television was a rip-off at 1 euro per hour. Although our friends had a room next door and there's was free.
We were half board and the buffet had a good selection of food and did vary from night to night.
The pool area was very crowded and people were getting up at the crack of dawn to reserve sunbeds only to appear in the afternoon to use them which was quite annoying as we often went down about 8.30 with our kids to find no free sunbeds.
We chose this hotel because it had a kid world and thought it would be great for our 6 year old and our 4 year old. During the day they loved the kids club but at night the entertainment was pretty much nonexistent for kids, it was mainly geared towards the adults!
The shows would start at 10.00 each night which was a struggle to keep them up (far too late). Out of the 2 weeks the reps were present twice a week and they would dance to 2-3 songs and then play a game of "fetch" which after playing once was quite boring and the kids weren't interested.
The kids disco was cancelled on a couple of occasions when we were sitting waiting for it only to be told a quiz was replacing it. As you can imagine the kids were very disappointed and bored. The shows were great for the adults but the children weren't catered for at all at night and this was the reason we had booked this hotel.
Overall the Altamar was a pleasant 3 star accommodation and pretty much what we expected, but as you can imagine the entertainment was a great disappointment and would put me off returning with my children.

Fine accommodation, a lot better than we were expecting considering the star rating. Altamar was recommended to me by someone who has been four times. Only slight niggle was of course the lifts [always a pain in hilly resorts!]as we were only one level from the bottom, making it just a bit of a challenge to use the stairs, you had no option but to go all the way to the top and through the reception to go anywhere, just as well the taxi's were cheap, even if some of the drivers were not the most cheery of people!
We were quite impressed with the pools and restaurant/bar area, even though we only used them a couple of times. Plenty of nice places just at the back of Altamar to eat and a good Netto supermarket in the centre as well.
Great service from the reception when our toaster kept blowing the lights, they brought a brand new one right away, we loved the big area of the balcony, great to sit out and have a few cold drinks [immaculate large fridge in the rooms also!]which got the sun till about 6 in the evening, maid service, one of the very best we have experienced anywhere in Europe.
Anyway we have booked for next year, only difference being, we are getting a 2 bedroom apartment this time.
First time this year in Gran Canaria, we loved it, the beaches, the day trips [especially the big game fishing]Las Palmas and Mogan, stunning!

Great holiday, would recommend the Altamar to anyone but its mostly family based. It has a great kids club and 2 fantastic, big pools!! The entertainment from Gaza and Tall Paul was good, very funny and there were always at least two acts on every night!
The rooms were alright, suit your needs. There is an onsite spar which is reasonably priced and stocks allot of English food.
We went on a charity day to Soux City with our tour reps. Had a great laugh and would recommend anyone else to go if they hold another one or even just as an excursion.
The next year we went back to Gran Canaria and stayed in the Colina Mar. Nothing special. Altamar is by far the best! We are going back later this year again because we love Puerto Rico so much!
One more thing, when visiting Puerto Rico we ate at a restaurant in the Euorpa Centre (upon the hill) called Le Chef. Highly recommended, ate there everyday cause it was so good.
The chef is top notch and the food is what you expect in 5* hotel but at a fraction of the cost. The staff are extremely friendly and are a great laugh.

Excellent! From our arrival until unfortunately leaving - one week was over too quickly. We had been to Altamar for a two week family holiday self-catering four years ago (children 15 & 16), so now they're making their own holiday arrangements my husband and I thought we would have a break on our own and try half board. The amount of choice was brilliant and there was something to suit all tastes, also if it was chops or steaks on the menu, the chef was cooking them on a big grill in front of you.
All staff including reception, cleaners, waiters and bar staff do an excellent job - nothing's too much trouble and the place is kept spotless. They're also really friendly and speak very good English. Big Gazza and his entertainment team work hard and provide a good entertainment programme.
Thanks to everybody at the Altamar for making our holiday an unforgettable one!
