OK But certainly Not a 4*
from joslines
I have just returned from the neptuno beach with my family. I went with very high expectations of the hotel from the reviews i have read, however when i got to the hotel i was very disappointed. The hotel is given a 4* rating and you expect a certain standard no matter where you are in the world. The neptuno i'm affraid to say does not have it. I would class it certainly no higher than a 3* and in certain aspects even that is too good. The pool is far too deep for children starting at well over a metre and going up to 2.6 metres. My 9 year old niece could just touch the bottom at the shallow end, luckly she could swim so it did not stop her using the pool. The rooms are small but ok, however when i went into a family room they were far nicer. The mini bar is not restocked every day so you only get a small bottle of water, coke and orange once when you arrive. The meals are good for the first 3 days after that you realise that they are basically the same, after a week of the same food you've had enough. The hotel is set away from the main town and to get to the shops you have to walk along a very dangerous stretch of road for about 500metres before you reach a pavement, with small children this is very unsafe as it is a main road. On the positive side i do have to say that the entertainment team are very good and try hard to keep everybody going throughout there stay. All in all i would say that don't go to the neptuno expecting a 4* hotel. If you go with a 3* hotel in mind then you will be closer to the mark.
Mr Neptuno Returns to Blighty!

Ok. Lets get this straight! If you want London standard 4 star accommodation then this isn't it! If you accept that this is Greek 4 Star accommodation then you will be fine and have a great holiday. Rooms aren't big, but then why would you want to spend your holiday in your room? The staff could not be more friendly or helpful. Spiros and Yannis in the Restaurant and Kitchen, Georgios, Vicky and team at the pool bar, and of course not to forget the Animation (entertainment) team led by Ibo and the irrepressible Toto ably assisted by the girls, Lily, and Clara (who will by now have sadly headed home to Romania). If you just want a quiet holiday and to be left alone don’t worry they will not pressure you into anything. If you want to get involved and have a laugh then again this is as good my family have experienced in Greece. My wife has Ceoliac disease, which means she can’t eat Gluten (found in wheat and barley), so bread and pasta are particular problems. Once we had explained to Spiros and Yannis they could not have been more helpful. Yannis explained the problem to all of his staff (after bothering to do some research himself) so that if the menu did not have anything on it that she could eat they would cook something especially for her. On the day we had a take out lunch for our visit to the water park, she had the best lunch of any! Nothing was too much trouble. So overall a spanking holiday. (Toto that can be naughty too so be careful wareful!). If you want a good family holiday, all inclusive, that isn’t going to break the bank then I would recommend this to anyone. Don’t be too British, learn to say hello, good morning, good afternoon, please and thank you in Greek and the staff respond in kind (although in almost every case their English was a damn sight better than my Greek!). And just to really set the icing on the cake not a single mossie all holiday. In fact the mossie machines were repacked within 1 day of arriving!
Excellent value for money

This was our first all inclusive so we were a little apprehensive. However it turned out to be all we hoped for and more. Very clean, nice staff, decent sized family rooms with air conditioning. Pool and beach towels were available for a small deposit and could be changed whenever you liked. Food was typical hotel buffet fare but we always found something we liked - and there were seven of us to please! Hotel was right next to the beach which was great for us (no moaning about having to walk far when sandy). We went on the kids half term at the end of May/early June and we never had to wait very long for drinks at the pool bar and always got a sunbed at the pool or the beach. Ammourada is maybe not the most picturesque part of Crete, but we had a brilliant time and certainly go back.
great hotel and holiday at neptuno

just got back from an 11 night stay at the neptuno resort. Would definately recommend to couples, singles and families for a lovely break, great value for money and a great beach. Considering the price, we thought it was great value for money. Snacks food and drinks, both non and alcoholic free all day and night. The service was brilliant, all staff very friendly and helpful, every detail had been covered for our stay. Hotel very very clean and pleasant. At first we thought it was just the resort but if you turn right out of the hotel and walk for ten minutes, there's a good selection of restaurants, bars and shops if you want a break from the hotel and a wander. The beach at the front of the hotel was great and we always had sunloungers (free), and a ten minute stroll will bring you to the watersports. We did a day trip out to water city which the hotel arranges, and that was well worth the money. There is an entertainment team at the hotel, which can be a little intrusive at the pool but you can get as involved or not as you'd like, or go to the beach. We chose this hotel for a quiet relaxing, all inclusive break with the option of being able to go to other places, and we would thoroughly recommend it.

We stayed here for a week in sept 05 with one 5 year old and one 1.5 year old. would recomend it to anyone looking for a bit of sun sea and relaxation. There was fruit and wine in the room when we arrived the air conditioning was a godsend with children although it you take your tag off your room key to keep the air conditioning on all the time ( you will see what I mean when you get there) be carefull not to loose your key as it cost's to replace it and it may be some time before you can get into your room again. The food was always hot and plenty to choose from although no specific kids meals they always found something they liked. be carefull of the cakes sometimes they werent defrosted properly. The pool was always clean but be warned the baby pool is very close to the big pool so you will need to keep your eyes open at all times as the pool area is not as safe as it could be and the tiles are sometimes like a skating ring. Right at the end by the entrance to the beach there is a Cage with toys in which are free to borrow durin your stay great idea. the staff were friendly and the kiddy's disco was great. There was always something to do. There are two land trains that you can buy tickets from at reception one is about an hour and goes right up into the mountains to a monestry and one just takes you round the town. The beach was just like the pictures although could have been cleaner and it is wise to wear shoes if you are walking to the bars next door as we found broken glass on the beach A must is a visit to the auto route cafe to see mario it is the best bar on the strip the cocktails are out of this world and there is even and area for the kids to play in while you relax. This place is what holidays in the sun is all about. We would go back here again. The facilities are 5 star but I think the staff are only on a 4 star at the moment, this no doubt will improve as it was its 1st season.

My family and i , have just returned from the neptuno beach hotel . After arriving at heraklion airport , it was only 20 min tothe hotel . Where we were greeted by a lovely receptionist , who checked us in , then another member of staff arrived with refreshments, and took our luggage to our room . The rooms are very clean well presented , with all the ammenties that are advertised , The entertaintment team is second to none with TOTO leading the way The bar staff are superb no waiting , no limits on drinks , nothing is a problem The rooms are cleaned daily , the pool is cleaned daily , everything so clean Food is superb always a variety for adults and children, cooked freshly in front of you. The only negative is the 10 min walk to ammordoura in the blazing sun . but when you get there . its truly worth it to meet the lovely lovely traders of crete who are so honest hard working welcoming people i have ever met . If you want more shopping , jump on the no 1 bus for 75 cents and 15 min travel and you are in the city centre , CANT WAIT TO GO BACK , TO PARADISE
Just the ticket!

We returned today from the Neptuno beach having spent a very enjoyable week there. We went with elderly parents who were very inexperienced travellers. Our concerns about suitability were unfounded. The facilities were ideal and the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Our rooms were perfectly positioned with views over the beach and mountains (but we realise not all rooms have this aspect). The previous reports about lack of shower curtains have been addressed and they are now fitted. The restaurant staff worked extremely hard all the time and we were more than happy with the variety and quality of the food. The hotel cleaning staff worked tirelessly and the hotel and rooms were always spotless as was the pool. The service at the bar was prompt, but again we realise the hotel was not running at full capacity. The beach is clean and safe for all ages but check the flag system for swimming as the current can be quite strong at times. The entertainment staff try to involve as many as possible in the activities without pressurising guests and we were impressed by their ability to speak in so many different languages. We had excellent value for our money and would return.
On The Beach

The Hotel is clean and nicely presented. The rooms were cleaned every day. There was fruit and wine in the room when we arrived, together with bathrobes and slippers. There is no shower curtain however, which causes a lot of mess and slippery floors. The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant is clean and the salad bar always well stocked with a variety of salads/pastas. The hot food was not always that hot and not much of a choice was offered. No "childrens" food. Drinks were always available and the wine and beer is surprisingly good. There is only one bar which is the pool bar. The service is very slow and it's only the English that wait their turn, so get stuck in. Food is available from the pool bar area during the day but this is not very nice. The entertainment is always there!! They try everyday to get you to join in. Music is always on round the pool so if you want a bit of peace and quiet you need to go onto the beach. You are right on the beach - lovely sand and blue sea. It is very quiet in the surrounding village so you need to go to Heraklion for busy shops etc. but beware the taxi drivers hadn't heard of the hotel so we ended up (after 4 attempts) getting the bus. For 1 euro the number 6 bus to Amoudara will drop you at the top of the hotel road. Auto Stop Bar along the road is owned by Mario - very good cocktails and very friendly service.

Brand New!
from binda73
We stayed here for a week All Inclusive at the start of June 2005. The hotel only opened to the public in May 2005 so everything was brand new. The rooms were spotless with comfortable beds, and well designed, modern bathrooms. The only downside to the bathroom was the lack of shower curtain which I believe to be common in Greece. The food was fine but after a few days a little variety was required. We looked very hard for the lobster on Sunday & Weds to no avail and even asked the chef who didn't seem to understand despite it being lobster & fish night! The entertainment was good to medium. The staff left you alone if you didn't want to join in but included eveyone that did. The bingo caller left us somewhat confused on several evenings after stopping half way through calling to sing happy birthday to someone! All in all this was a good, pleasant holiday. Amoudara is not the best of locations but the beach is clean & we never experienced any problems with bad smells from the power station that was only just visible! Word of warning - if you venture out, avoid the Buddah Bar - they tried to charge us 24 euros for 2 bottles of Becks - when we exclaimed we were told they were 7 euros each!

Well this is the first time ever we feel we have been shafted by Thomas Cook! This is our second review and I must say that the Neptuno Mareblue Hotel is set-up and catered for OAP's. How disappointed we were to find that we were on a 'saga' resort.(both of us in early... more
