" Thomas Crooked! "

Well this is the first time ever we feel we have been shafted by Thomas Cook!
This is our second review and I must say that the Neptuno Mareblue Hotel is set-up and catered for OAP's.
How disappointed we were to find that we were on a 'saga' resort.(both of us in early 40's)
The previous reviews must have been written by the over 50's apart from the 1/10 rating.
This holiday was an insight into retirement and now I want to work 'till I'm 70!
Hotel food was excellent 9/10, Hotel reception area very clean 8/10, Helpful receptionist with attitude problem 7/10,
Weekend shift of cleaners/ chambermaids never cleaned or changed anything in our room! 4/10
Thomas Crook Holiday Rep seen ONCE in our holiday on our second day and couldn't arrange a trip for us to the caves at the south of Crete, then she disappeared from the complex never to be seen again.3/10
Boredom had set in with the entertainment in the evenings..3/10 (occasional laugh with the gruesome two-some of entertainers 'Catastroph')
Beach was nice 8/10 albeit apart from condoms, stray dogs and some rubbish on it.
There are two bars in the Hotel complex and only one was EVER open, the pool bar, very disappointing 4/10
Entertainment was only until 10.30pm then the sound system was turned down, even on a saturday night! 3/10
Repetitive music with no variation every night 3/10 (yes, we could guess the next song)
Sleeping at night was horrendous due to inconsiderate old gits who had to shout in the corridors to hear each other, which echoed into the rooms.
The fact that we booked 7 night stay and only slept 6 nights in our beds due to the awful flight times was bad enough but, when we had to PAY EXTRA to keep our rooms from 12 noon to 02:30hrs was far too far!
Needless to say, we won't be back! Note: This was our first ever holiday we never took ANY photos although I had my camera it was that good!
And as for or Thomas Crook, totally disappointing outfit when we paid around the same for an all inclusive Holiday to Sharm El Sheikh three years ago and rated it 10/10 how things have slipped over time..

" ok "

I have never done a review before but feel I need to, staff were there to do a job some done it well some done it very well, entertainment was very poor, nothing at all to do on Sundays, both the entertainers have the same day off!!! there are 2 for the older 1 less time should be spent trying to chat the young girls up. my daughter got to the stage where she didnt want to go to the entertainment at night which for adults was from 10 till 11 nothing at all to do before or after. the pool table didnt work the air game didnt work and the table tennis table is right behind where people sit, the room we had looked out on the to the pool, was nice, clean and tidy, dvd player didnt work reported this twice but was never repaired, there was a smell in our bathroom, the drain kept overflowing flooding the floor, although this was only the water from the sink or shower it was very annoying when you had got dressed to go out then had the bottom of trousers soaked, (it rained the last 2 days) food was good although not always very hot, same thing every afternoon, fishfingers , chips, pizza or ham and cheese toasties,
often had to wait for a table.
we went on a train ride my daughter was even greatful for this she is 20, this cost 10 euros each, had to book at the hotel (nothing to tell you about trips ect you have to ask)
over all if you are looking for a holiday close to the beach, happy to sit and read a book, enjoy walking and entertaing your self then this is for you, if not book els where. we were not looking for a holiday that was party party, but we thought there would have been more to do, water sports are down the beach a little way, again nothing anywhere to tell you this only found it when we went for a walk.

" brilliant "

Clean, friendly, pleanty of tasty hot food non stop. mixture of guests Swiss, dutch, greeks. Lovely big pool very clean, beach not beautiful but quiet. Pleanty of free sun beds there and the pool. enthusisatic entertainment team Ebo and Dedo who speak many languages. We had a great time, only dissapointment nothing to do outside. A waterpark 29 euros each! But the hotel pack you a lovely lunch. there are 3 blocks of appartments we were furthest away up 3 flights, no lift. But the room was ok, a double king size bed and a proper single bed for my son, not a put you up. Most comfortable beds we've ever had.
food well cooked, hot and tasty, yes it gets repetative, but it is a buffet. Cool air conditioned restaurant.
We had no complaints with the hotel, but our holiday was spoiled by the awful service ( non exsistant) by the Thomas cook supervisor who insisted we were not booked on the flight home as our names were not on their list. they admitted they had the wrong one. We had to fight ( verbally) to get on that flight home and because of this although we could have been seated together, she deliberatly sat us seperatly. my 13 yr old son in row 46 me row 20 my husband 17. Never again Thomas cook

Advice: very secluded, not much to see out and about

Activities: brilliant waves for lilo, bit rough for yooung children

" Didn't want to come home!! "

Just arrived home from an amazing holiday. Hotel was only 10 mins in taxi from Heraklion airport. We were greeted by very friendly reception staff on arrival. Shown to our room, bit on the small side but clean, comfortable and bright. Rooms cleaned everyday and towels changed.
Food was amazing! Loads of choice, plenty of traditional Creten food to try (which we did!), delicious. For the not so adventurous and children there was always a safe choice (pizza, burgers, chips, etc!!).
Beach and pool area clean with plenty of sunloungers and parasols. Poolside snack bar was handy for a quick bite when relaxing serving toasties, kebabs, pizza and chips etc.
Pool bar was great, never queing for very long if at all. Staff fun and friendly. Lots of choice on AI drinks including an extensive cocktail menu (leathal!). Drinks were served in regular glasses which was a relief, have many bad memories from other AI holidays drinkin from tiny plastic cups.
Entertainment was not 5*, ok, but very fun. Lots of activities on during day, vollyball, water polo, bowels on beach and aqua aerobics. On an evenig the animation team got everyone involved, without bullying! Bingo, tombola, kids disco, games, dancing and a Miss Neptuno Beach comp which was hilarious! There were guests from all over europe but everyone got on well together despite the language barrier.
Hotel offerd day trips out which were all reasonably priced. We did Spinalonga and thoroughly enjoyed it. Boat trip with BBQ and tour round island which was really interesting. Then boat back to Aggios Nikkalaos, a beautiful port, for free time to do whatever you fancied.
Surrounding area from hotel was not amazing but had plenty of bars, shops and restaraunts all in walking distance. Locals were really welcoming especially Mario in AutoStop bar. Legend!
Would definately go back to Neptuno, we had a lovely time. Would reccomend this to anyone looking for a relaxing break in Crete x

Advice: Small, friendly and quiet. Not for anyone seeking the nightlife!!

Activities: AutoStop, atmosphere, staff and cocktails were unbeatable!!

" First holiday for the 7 year old... "

First holiday for the 7 year old consisting of 2 adults and the little one, cant fault the holiday at all. We first turned up at the resort at 4am (local time) all of us being very tired and was greeted by a friendly and helpful man on reception who showed us to our room which was situated directly next to the pool. At first we were worried about our room location at the beginning but the fact we were so close to the pool and the beach was amazing. The room was basic and filled all of our needs, and had a dvd player which was very useful when the little one needed an earlier night, where movies could be rented from reception for a small fee. The pool was deep even in the shallow end, but with a float bought from the shop directly opposite the hotel all problems of standing up for our 7 year old were abolished. The beach is a stone throw away from the pool area, which is very clean and has sun loungers and umbrella free to use for the resorts guests, and the sea is warm and quite shallow all the way out until the rocks which has some great fish and shells around. Can be quite choppy if the wind picks up but nothing that will make you not want to go into the water. Back to the hotel, the dining area was very clean and the food was gorgeous throughout the whole week, but some strange combinations but nothing you wouldnt see anywhere else in the world. The pool area also has a snack bar next to the bar which serves chicken nuggets, chips, toasted sandwiches which is just enough to snack on, the children seem to love pancakes with chocolate sauce on for breakfast. The weather throughout our week stay was 36c and was fantastic. All round the whole trip was fantastic and the resort really was brilliant. The two animation team guys were fantastic at getting people involved.
Bad points of the holiday - Struggled to try and find any, the depth of the pool is not suited for young children. And the dinner times, as dinner didnt start till 7pm which is quite late for some children, could of done with being an hour earlier.. .Would definitely go back again.

" our family of... "

our family of 6,mum(30),dad(27),children (12,11,6,3) have just retuned from a fantastic 2 wk hol here.To be honest we were getting a bit concerned about the holiday because of all the reviews we read on here, but there turned out to be nothin to worry about, hotel was lovely, clean and well set out,the rooms were basic but hey we didnt pay hilton prices so what do you expect? they were big enough for us and had the essentials i.e- bed,tv,dvd player, fridge, kettle, bath, shower, sink, wardrobe, safe and balcony with table + chairs, our attitude was,we only slept in them anyway so had all we needed. The hotel felt a little out in the sticks but personally we found that to be good as we didnt go out of hotel to bustling streets. Infact,we only left hotel twice all holiday + that was once to go into heraklion souvenir shopping, which we found quite stressful with the kids, buses were way overcrowded, shops all the same really so needless to say,we only stayed a short time then got a taxi back to the safe haven of the hotel, the next time was to go to the water park which turned out to be a fab day as around 44 people from our hotel went including the entertainment team, even though it was their day off they still looked out for all of us + made sure we were all ok,got on buses etc. Many reviews seem to say that toto + dido are forceful + rude,we dont know who they're talking about as they seemed fine to us,yes they do try to involve you in the games which turn out to be a great laugh if you join in. Us brits are notoriously reserved in these situations so i find we do need a fair bit more pushing than other nationalities to join in but i would'nt say the team overdid it,if you join in with the teams games you will find it is a great way of breaking down the language barrier between people then it makes the whole stay more relaxing. We thought the entertainment team did a fantastic job and are very underappreciated for their efforts, toto, dido, ania +laura speak a multitude of languages between them so can communicate with all guests, toto + dido learn who the new guests are straight away, names + where they from and make you feel comfortable, they can usually solve any probs or queries you have and you can book all outside excursions through them so you dont have to find a tourist booth to do this. In all we felt all of our needs were catered for, nights when kids needed to go to bed early we hired a dvd from reception for 3 euro, there is 2 mini markets just outside hotel and a large supermarket a 10 min walk away.We met 43 friends that we are staying in touch with who all loved the holiday and said they did'nt understand any bad reviews,so there you have the word of 49 people that loved it and can't wait to go back .

" The only good thing within this hotel... "

The only good thing within this hotel is all inclusive and food that is correct.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

>Sport and activities : 1/10 pool, tenis table broken, no or poor activty offered
>Swimmiing pool : 2/10 small an dirty
>Beach : 1/10 ok close to hotel but so dirty with aluminimum can bottle and so many cigarette in the sand ... seats broken and dirty, wate not so clean !
>Children : with 1 children that went to miniclub we found the miniclub was for polish people and many activity for children need to be paid extra painting on teeshirt etc...
>Extra : internet is so slow and so expensive we do not recommendusing it there ...
>Animation team: poor activity and shows , animation team is very good to ask you money to buy CD , teeshirts...

if you need advice on the cournty or plan your trip just forget them ...

The room are small, dirty , many equipment are not working, TV offer only Russian, polish and bbc channel, sheet and bedroom not cleaned or cleaned
very quuicly. but the worst is the water shortage 50% of the time from 10 pm to 7 am nd some time full day ! we make you enter a hell when you come after the beach of pool if you need to wash or clean you self
The manager of this hotel is unpolite and unrespectfull with its customers when we asked hiom to find a siolution to solve his water problem and maybe povide us other room temporarly... with 20 persons have water shortage every days the seconf week of july the last week te mamager just said i dont care this is not my problem... plese contact the tour operator..

unless thing improve very quicly and management take its responsability we should definitly not recommend this hotel.

" We have just arrived back from a 1... "

We have just arrived back from a 1 week All Inclusive holiday to this hotel. First impressions were good, until we reached our room.
The first room given to us you couldn't swing a cat in. It was very small, even the bath was half the size of a normal bath. The balcony was the width of a small patio table. View was lovely. Due to having a small child and the size of the balcony we requested a change to a ground floor room. Reception staff very helpful and changed the next day. Still room wasn't massive, but better than previously.

I have listed below the good and bad points of the holiday:
GOOD
Sun - Very hot every day
Big Pool - Good Size and clean
Food - Good variation of food, not always hot, but due to amount to cater for very good
Cleaniness - Rooms and hotel clean. Towels changd and beds made every day
Aqua Park - Very good day out

BAD
Childrens Pool - Too small. Three children and a floaty and it would be full
Drink - Beer from Pool Bar warm every day.
Mini Club - Not happy with the Mini Club at all. My 3 years 11 month old son wanted to go to the mini club and the bloke there said it was OK to leave him and he will bring him back to the Pool. After 30 min, my son came running back to me by himself. When I took him back the man was no where to be seen. He had left him with no supervision other than the other kids.
Beach - Beach not cleaned. Litter and fag butts all over. Would not let my son play on it
Local Area - Hotel is placed in a non tourist area. No places to walk too, other than a couple of restaurants and a few shops.
Evening Entertainment - This was non exisistant while we were here. Out of the seven nights, there was 1 night of greek dancers and 1 night of the children doing a show, other than that after the childrens dance hour there was bingo bonga. Not what I would call good entertainment. As there was no where to walk too, you couldn't even go anywhere.
Late Check Outs - I requested a late check out as my plane was leaving early hours in the morning. As requested I asked the day before my departure and was told that we could have the room untill 2 am that morning. I returned the next day to pay but was told that we could only have the room now until 18.00 for 20 euros. I stayed in the reception requesting the speak to the reservations manager. Finally after an hour, I didn't get to speak to the reservations manager but did get the room until 2am. Quite a few people was moaning about this.

Overall I wouldn't go back to this hotel again and I wouldn't recommend to anyone else.

" We have just returned home from a 2... "

We have just returned home from a 2 week all inclusive holiday at Neptuno Beach hotel with a party of four staying 'All inclusive' and overall the holiday wasn't bad despite some problems.

When we arrived we had booked two twin bedded rooms and were given two doubles. The hotel changed this on request but were initially difficult about it but as our booking clearly showed two twins specified they did change it during the evening of arrival.

Overall the hotel was lovely and clean outside the rooms and the staff always polite and helpful except some of the reception staff could be a bit grumpy. During the second week two of our party developed gastroenteritis (stomach upset) resulting in vomiting & diarrhea for two-three days. Other persons in the hotel were also suffering from the same symptoms.

Room cleanliness:- The bathroom was not always cleaned as well as would be expected and there also appeared in both rooms to be a smell from the drains.

Inside the rooms clean towels seemed only to be provided if you left your towel in the bath or on the floor. The aircon worked well but did seem to blow directly towards the beds. This could be adjusted if you found the extra buttons hidden on the remote control.

Food:- The food overall was good however the hot food was not always piping hot and the salad seemed on occasion to attract some flies. The deserts where excellent. The restaurant opened out to the pool via a conservatory which was hot. The hotel was in the process of installing airconditioning in this part.

Drink:- Drinks from the bar were plentiful and the service was good for an all inclusive holiday.

Pool:- The large pool was 2.6 m deep at the deep end and over 1 m at the shallow end so OK for all good swimmers. The childens paddling pool was small but OK.

Surroundings:- The beach was great and easily accessible from the hotel which provided free sunbeds and towels on the beach.

Getting to the town centre from the hotel involved negotiating a small part of main road where there was no pavement. Any one with small children and a buggy would find this difficult to negotiate especially at night. The small town centre itself Amoudara was not particularly attractive but had a food range of gift shops & restaurants as well as a large supermarket.

Entertainment:- Toto the entertainer was always on hand and entertainment followed the normal theme for med hotels including the mini disco, Volleyball, Boules etc.

" Just returned from a week, even took... "

Just returned from a week, even took mother in law.
All of us agree it was most probably the best holiday we have had.
From the moment we got there, the staff and facilities were first class.
I would recomend this location to anyone.

The staff were friendly, polite, and very helpful.
The food was excellent with plenty of choice, variety, and the restaraunt was spotless.

The rooms were fine, with everything you need, we went to be in the sun and in crete, not in our rooms.

The entertainment was good, and Toto and Diago worked hard, to make it an enjoyable experience.

We will not hesitate to return

" I've given this holiday 6/10 only... "

I've given this holiday 6/10 only because the hotel was very clean and I actually liked the little touches like the slippers and bathrobes in room!

We booked this hotel after reading all the good reviews, as most other places had very mixed reviews. I have to say, I wish we hadn't. We have been on many all inclusive holidays but in all honestly this was the poorest. We are definitely not the fussy type of people that are never satisfied and make the best of whatever we get. The food was the biggest disappointment, actually made us feel quite ill after the first 2/3 days. Usually we would have just gone to eat out but there was literally nowhere near to have that option! No real evening entertainment as such, although this didn't really bother us that much (good job we enjoy each others company) but could be a problem for some.

Had a few days of lovely weather but a couple of days of storms, this actually caused leaks throughout the hotel which resulted in towels being put around everywhere to try and soak up all the water (buckets may have been a better option!).

I would not recommend this hotel like most others we have been to.

" The hotel was lovely and clean and... "

The hotel was lovely and clean and the staff always polite and helpful. Clean towels and linen daily. Pool area and rooms cleaned daily.

There was some confusion when we first checked in, we'd got a double room and had asked for a twin. This was rectified without the trauma and stress I have witnessed elsewhere.

I broke my wrist whilst here and Ibo, Toto and the hotel staff were more constructively helpful than the Argo holiday rep.

The facilities were excellent. Very close to the sandy beach and also a clean pool with plentiful sunbeds. It was also nice to see that the 'towel on the sunbed' race didn't happen too often.

The food was excellent and plentiful and catered for all. Local delicacies as well as English breakfast.

We didn't venture too far from the hotel, but what we did see were plentiful shops and tavernas.

The evening entertainment was good although my only criticism is that some of us do like to sit and soak up the atmosphere rather than play bingo!

" The resort of Ammoudara, no matter... "

The resort of Ammoudara, no matter how you look at it is only average and the end where the Neptuno is located is poor. It’s a long strip of bars, shops, apartments, hotels and wasteland. At the Neptuno end it’s like derelict village until you come to a brand new Carrefour’s and LIDLs at the worst traffic junction I have seen.

The Hotel is down a poor side road which leads to the beach and has some dodgy bars in it.

When you walk into the reception it’s a different world. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. The cleaners are hard at work from 7 am to 10 pm. They sweep the car park every day!

It’s a small hotel, about 140 rooms which we found ideal because there was no queuing for anything. Mealtimes are long and so no rushing, the dining room is very tasteful with everything matching, The furniture is real wood not plastic, real cloths, Proper china etc.

The food is a good mix of spicy Med and rational English so you can get meatballs in tomato sauce with brussel sprouts and mash, if you wanted to. Plenty of sweets and ice-cream although the sweets are the same every day. People have said that the food is the same but that’s what buffet hotel catering is about, using leftovers. A good chef can always use leftovers and they do here.

Try the Greek potato omelette or the stuffed courgettes. I could go on but there is always someone to moan. The pool is a reasonable size and clean and there’s always plenty of sun beds.

The only bar that was in use was the pool bar but that opens at 10 and closes at 12pm so that’s OK. Hot bar snacks are there all day and at night the entertainment focuses on the pool bar area. Although the entertainment is at times rather juvenile it can be funny. It consist of bingo and audience participation games. Funny if it’s not you being laughed at.

The beach is very good and right behind the bar area. All in all we had a very relaxed time and would certainly go back, others might not agree, especially the lady who took her bottle of HP sauce to every meal (I kid you not) or the chap who was there for 7 days and went out for Sunday lunch and complained because he couldn’t get a curry (there is a Chinese and Indian in the village).

Well worth the money if you get a good deal.
