Sep 2006, Mrs S Howells

We had a fantastic time the hotel is clean, friendly, and easy going. The bar and pool is smaller than you would think but if you have children it's perfect as you can see them very easily.
There is comfy sun loungers with plenty of umbrellas and you can hire towels and get a deposit back. Kids club is good with T-shirt painting etc, older children may get bored but there is table tennis/air hockey etc for them. Food is great and a good selection fresh salad and fruit and plenty if you’re a vegetarian and traditional Greek dishes and good selection of meats.
Rooms are clean and comfy we had a family room on the ground floor with a small area to sit out in and was excellent for the kids to watch DVDs and we could still enjoy the entertainment which I hasten to add was hysterical!

My Husband and I and our 2 children...

Aug 2006, Mrs R Wates

My Husband and I and our 2 children aged 12 and 9 have just returned from 2 weeks at the Neptuno. We all had a fantastic time. The food was great, lots to choose from.
The entertainment was excellent; Ibo & Toto were really funny and made a real effort to get everyone to join in the evenings entertainment
The room was lovely, and the use of beach towels for a refundable deposit was really handy. The children really enjoyed the kids club and Lili & Dominica are lovely.
The area is not fantastic, so we stayed at the hotel most of the time because we had everything there
We will be going back.

Just arrived home from a 10 night...
9 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs Bailey

Just arrived home from a 10 night stay with my husband and two children aged 11 and 6. This was a lovely hotel for a relaxing holiday with the choice of the pool area and beach. Had a lovely room overlooking the pool and sea but was on the small side compared to the new block. This did not ruin our holiday as we were hardly in the room. Food was superb, a wide range to choose from at each meal although the children were just eating bolognese and chips.
We did not have to leave the hotel as there was plenty going on with the Animation Team. Toto was funny and worked his socks off to entertain everyone. Hotel was very clean and towels and sheets were changed each day. The evening entertainment was ok with a mini disco each night and Bingo. I must admit towards the end of the holiday it was rather predictable. This hotel caters for other Nationalities but we met some lovely British families which compensated for the evening entertainment.
Health and Safety is a lot to be desired for in Greece as on two occasions a Maintenance man was repairing the pool ladder with an electric drill whilst people were in the pool. I would definitely return to this hotel as we had a fantastic time and would recommend to anyone with children. We have always gone self catering but after our stay here we will always look for All Inclusive. Brill holiday

My children and I have just arrived...

Jun 2006, Mrs A McGreavy

My children and I have just arrived back from a 2 week stay. Although I enjoyed my holiday at this hotel that was more down to the people I met than the hotel and its facilities and more importantly its location.
Whilst it is directly on the beach, the beach is very dirty. The resort resembles a race track with bikers doing wheelies down the main street. There is no footpath for the first 800 yards turning onto it from the hotel. Its very dangerous. The food was awful, repetitive, we ate out a lot during our stay making it an expensive holiday.
The hotel its self is very clean, Rooms unless you have a family suite are very small.

Thank you to Ibo and Toto for making...

Jun 2006, Mrs G M Collins

Thank you to Ibo and Toto for making our two weeks holiday great fun. They are two great guys that really go out of their way to make sure your holiday is entertaining.
The rooms in the hotel are very varied, we stayed in the last block facing the car park, this didn't really bother us as we weren't there to sit in our room all day. We met some people staying in the main block and their room wasn't much bigger but their bathroom was double the size of ours and seemed cleaner and more like a 4 star room, they had a lovely sea view.
We did struggle with the food and I think there is room for improvement. Although I have to say everybody else seemed to be enjoying it. The wine was very nice we certainly got our money's worth from the alcohol. I have found previous A/I alcohol often watered down.
Our first week was really windy therefore it was very cool on an evening, all the entertainment is outside so it was a case of sit there and freeze. The main bar is advertised that it is open from 18:00-24:00 it wasn't open the whole two weeks of our holiday (the hotel was fully booked). This was also a pain if you wanted to watch the football on the TV which is located in the reception/main bar area as you had to go out to the pool bar to get a drink. Once the restaurant closed at 9:30pm they would turn off the drinks so the only bar that was open was the pool bar. Which as you can imagine is very busy being the only bar and although they had three people working it was quite often only 1 serving.
The area around the hotel is a bit of dump but I think this will improve as the resort gets bigger. That first 500m of road with no path can be frightening when it's busy.
The beach was nice and the sea was clear and warm. The pool was lovely and no more slippery than any other pool.
I hate to sound negative as we really did have a great holiday and the staff are very friendly and the hotel was clean. But there is definitely room for improvement in some areas.

My very first time on holiday on my...

Jun 2006, Mrs S Swindells

My very first time on holiday on my own, I was looking forward to it as well. I arrived at 2.30am on Monday 5th, Matthew on reception at the time was very pleasant and very welcoming, he explained everything, full of information, very nice. My room was a small double, but plenty room considering you don't really stay in it on holiday, I was looking forward to seeing my view when the sun came up, and when it did, I wasn't disappointed, it was lovely, all I could see was hills and the sea.
I must admit with being on my own I felt a little odd going down for breakfast, but the dining room staff were so nice and smiling all the time. The hotel was lovely, very, very clean, plenty of choice in food, they catered for all nationalities, change of towels and cleaned everyday.
Night time was great, something going on everyday for the children and adults, children’s entertainment was excellent up to 9.00pm then it was the adults turn, something different every night, but Toto and Ibo and others worked very hard to entertain the quests and they did, Toto was always on the go, he was very funny, I never saw any of them looking fed up. Bingo bongo was my favourite, I won three times, the music was good as well, and aerobics every morning in the pool, it was all really excellent.
I went to Heraklion one day on the local bus 1 Euro that’s all, but must admit the town was very busy, even managed to get lost while I was looking for the bus stop, but finally got back to the hotel for my dinner, the actual area were the hotel was, was a little bit run down, but I must admit give it another couple of years and it'll be buzzing.
A quiet area, but with all that was going on in the hotel you didn't really need to go anywhere, great for the children, took the little road train up to the mountains one day which you caught outside the hotel 10 euro for a 2hr ride, that’s was lovely as well, the views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking. I felt as if I'd been there for weeks although I was only there for 2wks.
I would love to return one day, and would recommend it to everyone who wants a relaxing holiday. Staff superb, food a great variety.

I can't believe the comments some...

Jun 2006, Miss K Burton

I can't believe the comments some people are making!

I have just got back from an absolutely fab holiday at Neptuno Beach! The staff were amazing and very friendly! Toto and Ibo, the animators, were ace and made sure that everyone was having a great time!
As for the reception staff, we arrived at about 1am and were greeted by some very friendly people who helped us carry our bags to our room and informed us that some food had been saved if we were hungry! I had one of the hotels smaller rooms and the room size was quite sufficient! It wasn't huge, but it doesn't need to be! I wasn't planning on spending my holiday in the room, it was only needed to sleep in! The food was great.
There was always a wide selection to choose from and the menu changed daily. There were always activities to get involved in whether it be darts, volleyball, ping pong or water polo! You can play whatever your age! The night time entertainment also had something for everyone. It started with a children’s disco, then there was bingo and then each night a different show which was completely different every night.
I would definitely want to go back to Neptuno again and would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a great holiday in Crete! Can't wait to see everyone at Neptuno next year!

Absolutely fabulous holiday....
10 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs D Parker

Absolutely fabulous holiday. Traveled with my husband, our 3 children and my mother. Everybody wants to go back. I cannot understand some of the other reviews written at the same time we stayed there.
The rooms are small but adequate and very clean, after all I only use it to sleep in! There is no bath in the room, it is a very large shower not a small bath! Pool is deep but there is also a separate children’s pool with very shallow water. Kids club was manned as from 1st June, what do you expect in low season? Entertainment during day included volleyball, darts, ping pong competitions, water polo, swimming races, all of which depended on customer participation to have enough people to take part.
Yes tiles around swimming pool did get wet, and so could be slippery, however in 2 weeks I didn't see anyone fall. One woman complained very loud and long to anyone who would listen that she had fallen. Within a couple of hours of her discussing this with the manager, warning signs were placed at the pool side. However, isn't it common sense to expect the side of a swimming pool to be wet?
I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing pool or beach holiday. If you want nightclubs don't go here. Had a great time. Can’t wait to go back.

May 2006, Mrs H Gruar

My overall opinion of the hotel is a good one. Staff are helpful and the hotel is lovely and clean including the gardens.
The downfall side is the actual town itself. Although it is in a good location on the beach, if you want to walk anywhere you take your life in your hands. There are no pavements either side of the hotel for 500 yards or so and the traffic is quite busy. You need to bus it to Heraklion to go anywhere independently. But, if you want a laid back restful beach holiday then go for it.
Food and drink are all good and plentiful. The entertainment isn't brilliant, but Toto, the entertainer is a lovely chap and everyone warms to him.

Each year we make a special effort to...
6 / 10
May 2006, Mr R Dearan

Each year we make a special effort to research our holiday/hotel and spent many a day checking this hotel on holiday watchdog.
After reading the reviews, we booked this hotel with great excitement.
We traveled with our children aged 12 and 7, for a weeks all inclusive at this 4* hotel.
Upon arrival at the airport the taxi driver was unsure of the resort location. This didn’t faze us as we had read this from previous holiday makers. The taxi cost us approx 17 euros and took 15 minutes to arrive at the hotel.
Having arrived at 1.30am at the hotel we were greeted by staff who carried the cases to the room. Dressing gown and small bottle of wine in the room, but no fruit or slippers (not that you would need them anyway).
To put it mildly the room was absolutely tiny. It contained a double bed, dressing table and bunk bed all in approx. 10 square feet. The air conditioning unit in the bedroom leaked water on the floor. The bathroom was even smaller (a bath a quarter of the size of an English one) with a below standard shower head, sink, loo and bin. The decor in here was tatty. We asked to be moved to a larger room which finally happened two days later.
Our new room was much larger, with a bigger bathroom and shower unit and included a sea view (nice). However the shower unit leaked which meant after showering four people the floor was very wet and slippery, as was the balcony if the air con was left on too long, as the water overflow emptied onto the balcony, our daughter slipped over a few times.
The hotel itself was ok. The staff were friendly enough.
The area on one side of the pool was very slippery and the pool itself was quite deep (even in the shallow end it was still 1.2 meters). Too deep for one of our children.
The food was ok. Not the best we have had at an all inclusive and not very varied. On the plus side you could actually taste the alcohol in the drinks and the staff at the outdoor bar were very friendly.
The beach itself was very good, sandy and clean with plenty of sun beds, the water is clear and shallow and contained no stones/pebbles, sandy under foot. The entertainment was very hit and miss in the evening and non existent during the day especially where the children were concerned. An unmanned mini club and a few darts matches were a poor effort. Which meant no real down time for mum & dad.
All in all an ok resort but not worth four stars only 2/3.
Won’t be going back.

Having read the details before we...
6 / 10
May 2006, Mr S Ireland

Having read the details before we went to this hotel I was disapointed with the whole package of my holiday. The hotel is classed as a 4 star by med hotels and by the hotel but in my view is more like 3 as it does not have any indoor facilities such as a gym, games room shop etc. The reception is very disapointing as it doubles with a indoor bar which in the evening is very busy with people drinking by the reception area, this is very off putting when you first arrive.
We were All Inclusive and although the food was o.k. for a week the menu did not really change too much and was very predictable. The building we were in was new this year and had a nice sea view; the room was ok with the usual set up but did not have a mirror in it.
The bathroom was small and did not have a bath in it although the shower was small but adequate. In line with Crete toilet paper can not be flushed and has to go into a bin in the bathroom which is collected each day by the maid. The staff in the hotel were all very nice and did there best at all times.
The resort of Amoudara is very small and lacks in what most UK holiday makers look for. However, it is very close to the Capital and a 20 minute bus ride will put you into the centre of the shopping area with plenty to find together with nice squares with bars and cafes.
I would not go back to this hotel or resort again as better resorts are available.
