We have just come back from our two week holiday at the resort. There were two adults, 5 yr old and 1 yr old in our party. For a start the name Alcudia sunvillage is wrong as it is not in alcudia at all. Alcudia is at least a 20 min walk from playa de muro or 10 mins in a taxi which will cost you at least 6 euro. The hotel is great if you do not want to be around any other british people as it is mostly populated by germans and scandinavians. When we checked in the reception people were shocked that they had to speak in english and had to go and fetch english paper work as they only had the scandinavian and german stuff to hand. The people on reception are not friendly at all apart from one spanish man called Benet. I would advise that if you want to exchange travellers cheques don't do it at the hotel because it takes at least 10 mins to do at reception because they have to check the with american express before they give you the money, whereas just up the road near the beach they can do it in 2mins with no hassle at all.

The rooms are very basic and the whole hotel decor needs to be updated. The air conditioning is awful and it is not much fun having to carry a buggy up and down the stairs everytime you go out if they put you on the first floor. We were not even given an electric kettle so we had to boil water on the hob which also took forever and often knocked the electric supply to the room off.

We did not eat in the restaurant as when we looked at the menu it was all in german and scandinavian.

There was alot going on for the kids during the day and the pool area is very nice.

Playa de Muro is a very expensive resort as is most of the north of the island, the price difference between the north and south is great. For example, a pair of shorts that I wanted from our resort were €13 but in palma nova they were €5.

Because all of the popular day trip places are in the south i.e Marineland, Aqualand, Pirates Adventure, you have to spend more money getting to these from the north. We went to marineland and katmandu ( an upside down house) for half a day each, they are not places to go for a full day. We also spent a fortune, which was worth every penny, going to the Pirate adventure show in Magaluf. If you are going to Majorca this show is a must see!! (pay the extra and sit in quarter deck)

Alcudia market is good and has plenty of choice for bartering, but again it will cost you about €10 to get there as it is in Port D'Alcudia.

There are a few bars near to the hotel, cheers is a good one for families and also the swan pub near to playa de muro beach. A great place to eat is Smiths bar where you will get fantastic food and the staff are brilliant with the kids.

Overall, I would not recommend the hotel to anyone as you do feel like abit of an outcast, but I would recommend Majorca to everyone as the weather was fantastic and there are lots of great places to visit.

Over all great holiday except a lot of ants also stayed in our apartment!

Still had a great time in sun village would defiantly go again. A lot of families so not a pulling hotspot!

Staff were both friendly and helpful. Waiters were a little over friendly when its just 2 19 year old girls on holiday! Still after a few days they got the picture. Entertainment in the complex was great and to suit all tastes.

Would recommend this resort to families of all ages.

Just returned from 1 week at Viva with 5 year old child. In one word - fantastic. Children’s club and hotel entertainment was absolutely great.

Pool area not crowded, even though it was mid August and plenty of sun beds. The apartment was a little on the small size but was cleaned everyday and all towels were replaced regardless of how dirty they were. Tiny black ants are a bit problem if you leave anything sweet left out.

Within 2 minutes the ants have it covered. They don't bite and are easily squashed underfoot! Have recommended it to friends looking for a family friendly hotel.

Just returned with my friend....

Just returned with my friend. The room was nicely furnished and had maid service every day except Sundays and Thursdays.

Safety deposit box in room, basic cooking facilities, which was fine because we mainly ate at the local Chinese or the gala nights in the resort (Abba night was great!) the entertainers were friendly as were the waiters. the pool was lovely but we had to get there early to get a sun bed (used the German trick of leaving our towels there!) our room backed onto boggy area which did tend to stink in the mornings and I think was where the mosquitoes came from, my poor friend was bitten a lot and really suffered, she still is, they left me alone.

The area around the village was pleasant enough, the beach was gorgeous. It costs 7 euros to hire 2 beds and an umbrella for the day. Quite along way from Palma (1 and a half hours) which is where main attractions are such as pirates (a must see) and the water park. Would recommend for families and people not bothered by mosquitoes!

My daughter and I have just returned from a two week holiday and the complex was every thing you could wish for.

Wonderful clean apartments gorgeous towels! And rooms cleaned 5/7 sheets once a week.

Entertainment for the children, was fantastic Bufo club with activities from 10-12 2-4 mini disco gala evenings and various topic nights from Chicago Grease Abba.

All the staff really helpful and so friendly about 5 minute walk to the beach and shops.

Eroski local supermarket and so much cheaper than all the Spar shops about 10 15 minute walk depending if you walk alone and can leave the children elsewhere. This holiday was one of the best I have had not too expensive either.

Little gem of a place....

Little gem of a place. Apartments : Good, maybe a bit small for a family of 4 if the kids are big. 4 Adults sharing - forget it.

Nicely furnished - in very good decorative nick. Bedroom - plenty of wardrobe space, safe deposit box (20 euros for 2 weeks). Bathroom - Nice powerful shower over the bath. Good condition. Living room - 2 sofa beds, air con unit, TV (2 English channels are BBC world and CNN, also Eurosport but commentary in German). Microwave, 2 ring cooker (we never used either). Standard size fridge. Comfortable place for a 2 week stay. Outside - terrace or balcony - 4 patio chairs and table, French doors into the apartment. Electricity controlled by inserting the keyfob - take an old credit card or such for keeping the juice on while you are out - handy for the aircon so that the room is cool when u come home.

Hotel Facilities : Restaurant serving breakfast and evening meal buffet. We were on room only, but paid for brekkie as and when - 6 euro/adult, 3 for kids, all you can eat and excellent value, choice and quality. Didn’t try the evening buffet so I can’t comment. Pool bar/ snack bar - serves everything you could want at lunchtime, burgers, pizzas, etc Beer 2.5 euro / pint, vodka orange 3.3 euro, miniature wine bottle (2 glasses) 4 euro.

Pool : Nice size, even in august it was never too busy and you could always get a sunbed - You still got the usual ignorant people putting towels out at 9am - and mainly by Brits! Silly sods - stay at home you stupid people!! Inflatables and balls allowed in the pool. No probs about kids in t shirts. Pool patrolled by lifeguard without a Hilter attitude! Very relaxed. Shallow end 1-2 inches deep sloping to a max depth of maybe 5 feet.

Kids club - Pretty good - the reps worked very hard.

Tennis courts 10 euros/hour. Putting free, but the worst putting I have ever played - most holes impossible!

Location - Spot on. 400 yards from beach, 50 yards from Spar supermarket and about 4 restaurants. 400 yards to a bigger selection - There are I guess 20 restaurants within 10 mins walk, all quite decent. Bus into Port Alcudia - every 15 mins, journey time 15 mins, 1 euro, for an even bigger restaurant choice. Fortunately not too many 'Brit' pubs serving J Smiths etc. Playa de Muro is more upmarket than Alcudia. Evening entertainment in hotel was simple, not to my taste, but many people and kids enjoyed it.

Don’t buy from a brochure - buy online at www.medhotels.com. I also bought my flights separately with BMI baby. Like for like, I saved almost 1000 pounds against the JMC brochure - incredible!! Paid 750 for the apartments for 14 nights, 145 pounds each for the flight, and car hire at the airport cost me 250 for the fortnight, with Holiday autos. Car hire in resort is 250 euros for one week.
