I have to say that when I went to...

"I have to say that when I went to these apts I had a wonderful holiday. Yes they are basic but they were very clean. The reception staff just let us get on with our holiday. The only reason I haven't given it 10 was because when we arrived there was nobody at reception and we had to use a mobile to phone them. This really was the only bad thing about the whole stay. The swimming pool, was very cold but it was clean. Perhaps it would be different if there had been more people staying. The restaurent attached to the apts was decent enough however the Restaurent across the road which was described in the review from 2006 was amazing. There was also a small bar attached to the hotel about two minutes walk away which was right on the sea. For lunch and or a cooling drink or even a night cap it was wonderful. The barman was very pleasent with out being pushy. Alcudia port is lively enough to keep most people entertained and there is a huge choice of restaurants and bars to choose from. We went in September and even then everywhere was still open. The small spar is situated underneath the apts and has everything you could possibly need for breakfast or a light lunch. It isn't overly pricey and there is a large spar in the port which has everything. Taxis are very cheap and plentiful and the bus runs every half an hour from just outside. We are just about to go back to the same place and I hope that the previous review was just one of those things and not because the place has declined so much in under a year."

wrong time of year

"Just back from these apartments in the lovely bay of Alcanada, it is peaceful and quiet.... but a little too quiet at this time of year, it appeared that the apartment had not been prepared for guests and there was no one in reception when we arrived, luckily we found a maid who gave us keys. We had no information in the apartment therefore no idea if there was anything we could do about the fact that the aprtment was so cold and as it was so early in the season felt damp....if it had been at the height of the season, the apartments would probaly be good, they are a great size, and as close to the sea as stated. The near by supermarkets were not open so you had to walk at least 20mins into the Port of Alcudia to get provisions. A lot of activity in the near by restaurant, but not open for business....... on the first day we nearly packed up and came home! However, Majorca has so much to offer and we found a local tour operater No Frills tours and they really helped save the holiday, Seamus and Toni have been running tours from the north of the island for 5 years and they really know their stuff. You could not find a more friendly and helpful pair, not only did they provide varied and interesting tours where nothing was to much trouble but they also organised a rental service which supplied us with a much needed heater!!! Their interest in their clients is great, no question is stupid, they actively look for suggestions to improve what they do and I would find it hard to fault them in any way. We would highly recommend that you give them a try, prices are reasonable and they do go the extra mile, for example when the bus could not get through roadworks to the apartments Seamus picked us up in his own car."

Secluded Mallorca

"I stayed here with my brother. We wanted a relaxing sea-side holiday, without too many touristy trappings and noisy nightlife. We got exactly what we wanted. This is quite a secluded part of Mallorca within short driving distances of more touristy attractions. I would definitely say you need a car if you stay here. Its about 45mins to an hour from Palma Airport. The apartments are very basic but clean. There is a kitchenette with fridge and electric hobs if you want to cook. The bathroom towels were changed once during our week stay. The tiny TV only shows 3 news channels in English (not that you will want to stay in watching TV?). There are two small supermarkets within walking distance (one is a Spa). There are two restaurants within walking distance and a cool bar that serves snacks and drinks right on a secluded beach - the barman was a really nice guy, who insisted we had a drink with him. The hotel has a small pool (although we preferred to walk a few extra yards and swim in the Med!) The restaurant attached to the appartements (Momo) is very good, although a tad expensive by Mallorcan standards - waiting staff are very friendly and attentive. Didn't really get to deal with the Apartement staff? We arrived at night and left REALLY early, but there seems to be someone on the front desk most of the time. All in all, this is a great no-frills place to stay, ideally situated for drives out to Alcudia's walled city with its markets, buzzing port and Porto Pollenca's busy sea front - all surrounded by crystal clear blue sea and stunning mountains."

great location, excellant

"Arrived here early on the sat morning (5am!) and realised we had left a vanity case on the carousel at the airport!!, the hotel manager was very helpful in trying to find us a number to call at the airport and let us use his phone, eventually had to hire a car which the hotel helped arrange to go back to the airport and we found it still laying on the carousel!! so a happy ending there the thought of no make up was not a good one lol!!. We got to our apartment which was a 2 bedroom apartment (2 twin rooms) and it was a nice surprise to find we had air conditioning which we were not expecting. the bedrooms were very spacious and the living area was a nice size too there was 6 of us and it was fine. The sofa bed in the living room was a little small so my husband and one of my sons shared that whilst I had a single bed in one of the twin rooms, but it worked out fine. Our apartment (B3) was on the ground floor (blocks of 4 apartments, 2 lower and 2 upper) and it was in a great location for the pool, as we would just sit on the balconey and watch my boys in the pool. The rooms are basic but livable, there is a kettle and a 2 ring hob, fridge, and basic crochery and utensils. Very clean, the towels are changed every 2 days. There is a round shallow pool which is great for the younger children and a larger pool for bigger kids!! be warned the large pool is very deep (2 meters+ at the deepest!) the pool was suprisingly warm once you were in it!. People always seemed to leave there inflatable toys behind when they left (as did we) in the pool so there was always something to play on. One tip is to get the sun beds early I got up one morning at 6am and they were nearly all gone!! It was mostly english families there but there was a few forieigners but everyone was really nice, friendly and considerate, especially at night, we would nornally arrive back at the apartment about 10.30pm (young children!) and it would always be lovely and quiet so the boys could sleep, and we would sit on the balconey for a couple of hours chatting and watching the stars!. (this is not for people who like a noisey night life! no brit bars or karaoke and no children running wild making a noise like you may find at some hotels!!.) The 2 bed apartments are split by a road from the main reception and 1 bed apartments, but this was not busy so nothing to worry about. There was a bus that runs every hour in to Alcudia the last bus into town is 7.15pm, so you would have to get a taxi back but this costs about the same of the bus depending on how many people you have with you!, one thing to note is that the taxis are only meant to take a max a 4 people which is not much help when there is 6 people but we managed to speak nicely! to a couple of drivers who let all of us in, so its worth trying a couple of different drivers!

The beach at the resort is a 2 min walk, it is nice soft sand and the sea is lovely but it is not very big and does get VERY crowed especially with locals, and we preferred getting the bus to alcudia beach. The Area is very residential and only has these apartments and 1 hotel (The Presidents) which i think closes in the winter. But the setting is stunning gorgeous houses and apartments, the view is amazing and over looks alcudia and the mountains. There is a bar which sits on a jetty over the sea which serves food during the day (quite resonable) and you can get drinks at night here and the view is excellant.

There is a pizza type restaurant which is attached to the resort which is also very nice and has plush chairs and sofas to sit and relax on! There is also a Michelin star award restaurant which does lunch & dinner (or just drinks) which also has stunning views over the sea, we treated ourselves here on the last night and it was very nice - but pricey, but you could get the menu of the day which was 40 euros each for 3 course and coffee so not too bad. You can also eat at the Presidents hotel for 12 euros each (adult) and 8 euros (child) to eat (buffett style) and drink (red, white wine beer, soft drinks) as much as you like, which was very good value.

The area around the village is quite rocky but there are quite a few little alcoves to sunbath in if you can find them. and there is a nice walk towards the light house. There is also a beach path towards town, but with the little ones we didnt make it as they got too tired! but would imagine it would take an adult about 25-30 mins to walk. There is a golf course 5 min walk which overlooks the sea, i believe there is a restaurant there aswell but we never went.

We would definatelty go back again but probably book direct with the hotel as this would be cheaper (hotel tel 0034 971 545 402) or sales@stilhotels.com

Great Apartments

"We had a one bedroom apartment which is located in a seperate building across the road from the two bedroomed apartments which overlook the pool area. There is a supermarket and pizzeria/

cafe/restaurant called Momo attached to the apartments. We only ate there the night we got there which was a Saturday night at about 11pm. The food was good but a little bit pricey. They can afford to be because there's only this restaurant, San Atonio and La Terraza in Aucanada

We ate at the Hotel President the next night, which is twelve euros per person for the buffet (which you pay at Reception), and a further

two euros per person for drinks (which you pay at the table) and this

for free flowing red wine, white wine, beer, soft drinks or water. You just help yourself.

However, there is the bus stop outside the apartments which takes you into Puerto Alcudia and costs 1.10 euros for an adult, the last bus into town is 7.15 and we never paid more than eight euros for a taxi back to the apartments (depending on how far into Puerto Alcudia

you walked). There's so many good restaurants in the port that are really well priced, so we didn't cook at all in our apartment, just stocked up the fridge with cold drinks, wine and fruit. There is a big Eroski supermarket in Puerto Alcudia and a Mercadonia in Alcudia if you want to stock up cheaply.

The towels and linen were changed three times in the week we stayed. The apartments are basic but clean. There was always hot water for the shower. The one bedroomed apartments don't have air conditioning but there was a fan in ours when we arrived - don't know if we were supposed to pay for it though. There is a room safe which you can hire for two euros a day.

One really nice thing they did for us was let us have our room until 4pm in the afternoon with no extra charge, because we had an evening flight home.

The staff were very friendly and very helpful. We would definately stay here again - its out the way to be lovely and peaceful and close

enough if you do want the action.

loved it!

"Just returned from Aucanada after a very relaxing trip. Location of apartments is beautiful, secluded and quiet. Dont go here if you want action, this is the place to get away from it all. We had a car so travelled around the island a lot, especially inland to enjoy the real Mallorca. Apartments are basic but clean and very good value for money. Pool is lovely and the bar restaurant is a little pricey but very chilled with amazing views. We ate at the President hotel's buffet restaurant just 50 yards away a few nights for just 12 euros each .The beach is hard to walk on as its not sand but very quiet. This really isnt the Mallorca seen in most holiday brochures, Aucanada is real hidden gem and not a brit-bar to be seen!"

Fantastic Location

"Got a last minute deal from Sunmaster in the half term October Holiday 06, last week of the season. Weather was glorious all week but we were told this was unusual for the time of year. Aucanada is a fantastically peaceful village about 20 minutes stroll or a 10 minute bus ride from Alcudia town and harbour. 1 euro each on the regular bus service (bus stop right outide the hotel) or 5-6-euros taxi fare). Alcudia has a fantastic beach, a beautiful harbour and a few good, much more reasonably priced eating places as well as shops and supermarkets. Buses run regularly to Peurto Pollensa and other places.

The village boasts a golf course, a couple of restaurants (quite expensive), two supermarkets (everything is much cheaper in Alcudia and it is worth getting a taxi to stock up for the week) and some breathtaking walks.

It is right on the coast and there is a small beach very close to the apartments which was empty everyday due to the time of year. (I imagine it would be quite crowded when the President Hotel in the village is open, but they closed down the day after we arrived, which was a pity in one way because we ate there on the first evening. For 10 euros you have unlimited access to the varied and delicious buffet - just pay at reception and they will show you to the restaurant.)

Our apartment was spacious though basic but with stunning views overlooking a strip of pine forest between us and the water's edge. The covers on the sofa were decidedly grubby (we put this down to the end of season) and cooking facilities consisted of two rings. Generally clean and very quiet. Beds were comfortable and had a decent bathroom though the towels were like sand paper.

Jose, the hotel receptionist was delightful and extremely helpful when I arrived having lost my passport somewhere between the airport and my destination. He insisted on ringing anybody and everybody who might help me and thankfully I was reunited with it two days later.

There is a lovely pool area which again was very quiet probably due to time of year. We spent a lot of time walking by the sea and exploring the beautiful village. We had a really wonderful, relaxing holiday and enjoyed our stay at the apartments in spite of them being a little tired and rundown.

We plan to revisit Aucanada again this year but as we are going in August, we have opted to stay at the President just up the road, mainly because we fear the apartment will be very hot at that time of year and , though provided with a fan, there was no air conditioning. If we were able to return in May or October, we would not hesitate to use these apartments again.

The resort of Aucanada is a very...

"The resort of Aucanada is a very quiet, tranquil and beautiful area - certainly not for those looking for a lively holiday. The resort is extremely peaceful and great for a relaxing holiday and has lovely views across the bay of Alcudia.

We were very impressed with the complex itself; it had everything we needed and was very clean and modern and had quite a luxurious feel to it. The staff were very professional and helpful, including receptionists, bar staff and cleaners.

We have been to Mallorca several times before and we would certainly say that the north area is the best. This was the first time we'd been to Aucanada and we would definitely return. Other areas that are nice are Puerto Pollensa and some parts of Alcudia (the old town and the port).

This time when we were here we discovered a new way of seeing the island (as taxis can be expensive and we don't like hiring a car). The reception of this hotel was selling excursions organised by a local company called No Frills Excursions - I know the name doesn't sound local but they assured me that they were, even though all the guides we met spoke excellent English. We went on several excursions with this company and found the standard of service very high and the excursions very enjoyable. All the trips we went on were sightseeing tours to Valldemossa, Soller and the east area too. The guides were very knowledgeable and interesting. For those who prefer more family orientated things, they do visits to water parks and family shows and things like this too. The prices were very reasonable.

A very nice restaurant to try for anyone going to Aucanada for their holidays is Momo's. They do very interesting, trendy food and the restaurant is very stylish and modern.

Another great place to eat is La Terraza. This is right on overlooking the sea in a wonderful location and the food was great there too. This place is a bit more for special occasions though.

The best place to buy gifts and souvenirs or to buy anything really is Palma. Don't bother with the tacky overpriced shops in the resorts; go to Palma where they have some fabulous shops and you can enjoy the culture and history of the capital of Mallorca. When we went to Palma, we actually booked a trip with the hotel reception and it worked out cheaper than the public bus and we got plenty of free time for shopping too.
