If you are staying here, do not go for the half-board option. Although the hotel is comfortable and well-kept, it is totally let down by the ambience and cuisine in the restaurant and the out-dated Stuchey's bar (which was serving roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for lunch... more

We were really surprised at this small hotel. The room was really quite big and clean. The welcome could not be faulted as we were late coming in they had saved us a cold snack which was very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were friendly... more

Excellent friendly small hotel
We have just returned from the Bonsai Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We booked this hotel after reading the reviews on this site and we were not disappointed. The whole deal was booked online using Freedom Direct. The flight were on Easyjet and were good both ways. We arrived at the hotel at 1.30 in the morning and were greeted by a very happy and friendly night reception. This friendliness is typical of all the staff. A nice touch was the complimentary bottle of wine waiting in the room on arrival. The room had pleasant decor and a flat screen T.V. which had both BBC1 and 2 which was great as we could keep in touch with Wimbledon tennis! The room was very clean and was kept this way by the excellent staff. There is a sun terrace with good beds and shades which is a good alternative to spending all day on the beach as this can be a little too hot. On the ground floor there is a small pool, jacuzzi and sauna which not many guests use but is good for cooling off if you're using the terrace. All meals are buffet style. For breakfast there is a choice of either full English or Continental. For dinner there is soup, a salad course followed by a main course and desert. The previous review mentions fish fingers and nothing else! There are fish fingers one night a week but there is a choice of about three main courses so you don't have to eat them! Check out the roast pork and roast beef. Some of the food combinations are a little strange and maybe there could be more fresh vegetables but all of the food is perfectly edible and adequate. For what we paid for 2 people on half board so we did not expect Cordon Bleu standard!! The hotel is small and when we were there 99% of the guest were British and mostly in their fifties and sixties. There is nothing for children and as a result its very quiet. Its about 4 minutes from the beach so you can pop over for a quick evening swim when it is a bit cooler and it is really Son Boulo rather than C'an Pickafort. If you want an outside pool you can use the hotel Sarah which is a stroll up the road. There is a nice bar next door to the hotel, just through the lobby. Many of the guests have been using this hotel for years and some go a couple of times a year which in itself is a fair recommendation. Thanks to all the staff at the hotel for making our stay at the Bonsai a very enjoyable experience.
Jusr dont eat anything!!!!
Read all the reviews and looked at the brochure before we booked on-line. Generally, the hotel does what it says, it small and very clean and the staff are friendly. Location is fine, bit out of town which is just what we were looking for. Unfortunately it was badly let down by the food. Someone said it was basic but it has some way to go to aspire to being as good as that! There was no imagination from the kitchen whatsoever. On an island thats supposedly famous for freash seafood, fish fingers dont cut it. If it was supposed to be aimed at UK tourists that like UK food, then it was off the mark. Needs a lot more work from the kitchen staff to earn the 3* rating its got.
The Little Gem of Majorca
What a brilliant little hotel. We have just returned from one week in this 3* hotel. I have been to many 2 or 3* hotels over the past few years on cheap holidays but this one should definitely be graded higher. The staff are superb and really friendly. The hotel is very well looked after and very clean. We went half board and the food was basic - more English than Spanish cuisine but beautifully cooked and presented. The cook was always on hand to replenish the supply and liked to see you appreciating his food. The waiter 'Tony' is brilliant. Lifted plates away as soon as you had finished with a cheerful - Thank youuuuuu! Very funny too he can share a good joke! Alison on reception was extremely helpful even to the point of phoning and checking our airport transfer for us (non tour company). This is a quiet hotel right on the end of the Can Picafort resort it actually edges on to the Son Baulo district. It would be about 15 mins stroll into the centre of the resort and is all pretty much on the one level. The bus stops directly outside the hotel and will take you to Palma, Pt Pollenca or Pt Alcudia. Pt Alcudia cost 1.25 Euro each way per adult and apparently Palma is around 5 Euro one way. We found a great pub 2 minutes away called 'Scandals' mainly British pub but very friendly. Lots of TVs with sport on and brilliant music being played. Can Picafort seems to mainly cater for the German tourism industry but we really enjoyed it. Bikes can be rented locally and are a real must for cycling along the sea front and beyond (if you are fit enough) - Majorca has a very big bike culture and really promote the use of them with many cycle lanes clearly marked on the roads and pathways. Can Picafort is a very clean resort. Bins are emptied promptly very early in the morning and bin men empty the local skips from shops and pubs nightly. A Friday market takes place right beside the hotel and has a lovely atmosphere and is great fun to ponder about and look at. There is no pressure selling here. Overall this was a lovely resort all the locals were very pleasant and polite and this was the nicest place I have been for a long time. Enjoy yourself if you have booked this hotel. Just remember it is a hotel to go to if you want quiet and relaxation.
Basic but nice
Just returned from the Bonsai after staying for long weekend (4 nights) it was a surprise break for my husbands birthday.... the hotel recognised this and gave us a double room that had a lounge area with sofa and TV... (which allowed BBC channels) and there was a nice clean bathroom. They also left a bottle of wine in the room which was a lovely gesture for his birthday. The hotel is small and the comments below are pretty accurate - Yes the food isn't brilliant for choice but with only 29 rooms I suppose the choice would be limited - the breakfast is repetative evening meal was similar - but always hot and well cooked. The room was clean and although we were only there for 4 nights the bed linin was changed twice The staff are helpfull - and Very nice. I must say it was also nice to stay in an hotel with no screaming kids running around when you are trying to enjoy a meal, There is nothing at this hotel for kids, mainly middle aged to elderly age group stay here.... I'm 44 years and I was the youngest there. Stutchy's bar is attached to the hotel - The entertainment we saw was good - but now it's the end of season - we saw the last act for this year. All in all - the hotel is comfortable, I would certainly return for another long weekend but next time I hope to go when there is some sunshine, I should have hired a canoe from the airport rather than a car..... Go to this hotel if you want a quiet and relaxing break - cetainly not luxurious - but basic and clean.
Lovely Hotel
We stayed at the Bonsai for a week, it is kept very clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and Toni the waiter is charming. We enjoyed our stay there. The hotel is surrounded on all sides with roads, we had a room at the back and the only niggle was the German hotel at the back does tend to have very loud entertainment on most nights but at least it tended to finish by midnight. The food is ok, nothing brilliant but is well cooked and more than adequate, it is self service so you can mix and match whatever you want and how much you want, so you won't go hungry. There is no outdoor pool but there is a nice sun terrace and an indoor pool, the beach is only a short stroll away where it costs 7.50 Euro for two loungers and a sunshade. The hotel is in the quieter part of Can Picafort and its a nice walk along the seafront to the main town area with the shops. There is a land train that does a circuit of the resort stopping right outside the hotel as do the buses. A nice clean well kept hotel that we would recommend.
Friendly, small Hotel
We visited Bonsai for the first time this summer, after reading reviews, here and elsewhere. All I can say is that we were not dissapointed, as a couple, in late 40's we liked the quietness and tranquility of the Hotel. The staff are fabulous and most have been there since year dot, helpful, courteous and efficient. The food provided in the small dining room, though limited in choice, was always of a high standard and the waiter "Toni" is such a charming man. The bar attatched to the hotel, "stuchy's" is run by a couple of english lads, and I have to say that the standard of entertainment they booked most evenings was of the highest order. Way better than your usual Hotel "entertainment" ! I did like the fact that at midnight there is a rule in Picafort that loud music must stop, suits me, 'cos we wanted to be up in time to get out and about to enjoy the jewel that Majorca is, when you take time to escape the crowds and get off the beaten track. Proof that we enjoyed it so much, is that (like many others) we have already booked next summer in the same place for two weeks. Look forward to meeting new, old friends
Nice, quiet hotel
We just stayed in the Bonsai for a week and it was a really lovely experience. Very clean, very friendly and helpful staff, two minutes walk from the beach and in what seemed like the most pleasant and quietest part of Ca'n Picafort. There is 'entertainment' in the bar of the hotel every night, which is pretty loud, but finishes by midnight. The bus to Alcudia and beyond stops directly outside the hotel. From our room at the front of the building we could get a glimpse of the sea which was lovely. The food was nothing special, but perfectly adequate.
The best small hotel yet visited
My wife and I have visited this hotelon three previous occasions and it is the tops. The staff are amongst the best we have met and are extremely helpfull and obliging. We have already booked in for this year, in July and are really looking forward to meeting our old friends there, Allison,Tony, the barman who's name I cannot recall at the moment, and all the cleaning staff who are obliging and always ready to help. For any one who wants a quiet holiday this is the place, however the beach is only a few yards away and buses stop outside the hotel to transport you into Ca'n Picafort or places further afield such as Alcudia and Porta Pollensa both of which are worth a visit particularly on market days.Bars and shops are also close to the hotel as are shops and restaurants. We have visited many resorts round the med.but I am sure that we will continue to visit the Bonsai.
Fantastic Hotel
Brilliant Hotel! Not just for older people but perfect for anyone who appreciates a child free environment with plenty of amenities close at hand. Perfect beach just footsteps away, and about 20 mins walk into Can Picafort for restaurants, pubs etc - one of the best holidays we have ever had - and we have been all over the world. 5 star service - deserves more than it's official 2 star rating - presumably given due to the lack of pool - but who needs a pool when the med is on your doorstep??
Bonsai Bliss
Looking for a small, quiet & friendly hotel to totaly unwind/chill out? - this is it. Great for older couples - but not for children - it was kid free when myself & my wife grabbed a weeks holiday in October. Absolute bliss. There are only 20 odd rooms & the staff are so friendly - can't help you enough. Bus stops outside hotel.Traffic free walkway on front promenade.Approx 30 min walk into centre, with pit stop en route. Absolute Certainty - will go again. Can't wait! Mel (Manchester)
