Hotel Tirena

We booked a last minute holiday to Dubrovnik. Loved the place as we wanted somewhere to relax and unwind. Dubrovnik is a lovely place. The sea is so beautiful. Not much of night life though. The hotel is lovely as we find the beds and pillows so comfortable that as we had the best sleep ever while on holidays. We found the staff of the hotel to be friendly and we found the lady in the gift shop in the hotel very helpful. Havin read the Trip Advisor reviews, we were not expecting much. However, after a 40min coach trip from the airport, the reception area was bright, open and friendly. The hotel is clean, well run and safe. The rooms are decent and adequate, clean bathroom, plenty of towels, sat TV and beds are fine. Mini bar in in each room is ideal for cooling your water for the pool next day. Security safe is at reception and free of charge. We just got back and had an amazing time in Dubrovnik. Hotel was average, good buffet breakfast, clean room and amazing view but nothing special for the rate they are charging. No complaint at all. It is 3 min walk to bus stop that takes you directly to the old town and you can purchase ticket downstairs from hotel. It is 5 min walk to the beach, The umberella and chairs are not free to use but you need them as the beach is rocky. Had serious reservations about this place having read the reviews....but was pleasantly surprised. We spent our first evening in a basement twinroom, instead of the double sea-view room we had booked. However a sea-view room was arranged for our second night-at 60kuna extra per person it really is worth it!! Room was a good size, clean but basic. My room was clean and comfortable with nothing to complain about. The night I stayed, the hotel was dead quiet. Breakfast was fine. The staff were quite helpful when I had any questions or needs. A bus runs directly past the hotel into the old town very frequently, so access to it is quite convenient.

We stayed in Hotel Tirea in May of 2007. We thought Dubrovnik and other parts of Croatia are stunningly beautiful. Hotel Tirena is a touch old fashioned, but they have done a good job restoring it after the War in the 90's. The staff are very pleasant and friendly, we found the food to be ok, not gourmet by any standards, but it wasnt awful, the buffet offers lots of choice both for breakfast and Dinner, we enjoyed it. Hotel Tirena on Babin Kuk peninsula was really great, although some of the staff seemed to be quite bored with their lives. Rooms were clean and the breakfast was fine. Don't try the restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel though. Not far away from the beaches (pebble or rock) and the joint Babin Kuk hotels pool nearby is great and has a bar. My wife and I stayed at the Tirena in June 2006. It's situated on the Babin Kuk peninsula just outside Dubrovnik, handily placed for a trip to the city. First impressions on arrival were bad; grey concrete, bullet-holes and marks from shells in the walls after the war in the early nineties, it looked a bit like a prison. The rooms are pleasant, but ours overlooked a tatty public park area beside what looked like a 1970's inner-city shopping precinct. I travelled with my friend throughout Europe in August. I can definetly say that Croatia was our favourite part of the trip. It's a beautiful country, with great weather, beaches and historical sites. Hotel Tirena was a pleasant surprise, as it appears to be far from the Old City on maps. We were looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing holiday; our room was lovely with beautiful views (we paid extra for this) The hotel was clean and pleasant as were the grounds and pool. Everything appeared to be great; until we were in bed - we were woken in the early hours by loud banging disco music, shouting and screaming coming from a cafe bar down the precinct.
