Jan 2006, Mr BJ May

We have stayed at the Aleka 3 out of the 4 times we have been to Corfu. The only reason it isn't 4 out of 4 is because we left it too late to get in one year.
Aleka, Spiros & Renos are absolutely brilliant & nothing is to much trouble. If you have a problem of any kind they will do everything in their power to get it sorted.
The rooms are clean, ok they are not luxurious, but what do you expect for what it costs? We have a daughter who was five when we first went there. She played with Spiros' & Aleka's grand daughters who were of a similar age and they got on brilliantly together, to the extent that in preparation for going the following year my daughter asked me to teach her Greek so that she could converse better with them!!
If you are looking for a relaxing, friendly place to stay I would recommend The Aleka Hotel or Aleka Studio's every time.

The Hotel Aleka was set in a quiet...

Jul 2004, Mr S Hunter

The Hotel Aleka was set in a quiet location but the accommodation itself was very poor.
The owners, Aleka and Spiros, were very rude and made no attempt to make you feel welcome. We did not have a proper conversation with them throughout our two week stay there nor did they ask us how our holiday was going at any point. The Golden Sun rep Rita was just as bad and showed no interest in any problems we had during our stay at the hotel. On our arrival she showed us to our rooms and instructed us not to ask any questions till tomorrow.
The room itself was like a box with no windows. It had two beds with a narrow space in between them. It had a wardrobe which dominated most of the space in the walk way of the room. The bathroom was very small with no window. It had a toilet, shower and sink. There was only just room to stand in there. We did not have a private balcony only a table and couple of chairs outside the front of our room which other guests had to walk by to get to their rooms. At night the room got very hot as there were no windows and we had to leave the sliding door open at night so we could sleep which meant anybody could have walked in. We asked to be moved the next morning because we knew there were empty rooms in the hotel as other guests had left the night before but we were simply told no. We then asked the rep if we could have free air conditioning which cost E42 per week but the owners again said no. The rooms were cleaned daily apart from Sundays and bed linen and 'towels' changed once or twice a week.
The pool bar was quite expensive. We didn’t use it for food very often but did for drinks during the day. They charged E1 for a small bottle of water while 5 minutes down the road the shops charged 25 cents for a small bottle or 50 cents for a large bottle of water. The polo bar also had a pool table. Breakfast at the hotel wasn’t up to much and we only had it on one occasion.
The hotels pool was a decent size for the amount of guests staying in the hotel. The sun loungers surrounded the grass verge around the pool and there was not normally a problem getting one at dinner time. Guests from the Pyrros Hotel were also allowed to use the pool.
The resort of Gouvia is a 10 minute walk down the road. It is a great resort with lots of restaurants and bars. You won’t have any trouble finding a nice place to eat in Gouvia. Gouvia beach is mainly shingle and the water not to clear. Further along the main road there are the Govino Bay Apts which have a beach which is more sand than shingle.
There is not much in Kontokali apart from G&Ms which we didn’t visit and the Beer Bucket which is an English bar which we did visit for breakfast.
Overall we had a good holiday in Corfu and Gouvia as there is something for everyone but the Aleka Hotel is very poor.

Jul 2002, Mrs C Andress

In 2002, I went to Kontokali Corfu for the very first time, with my sister-in-law and family. We stayed at the ALEKA HOTEL in Kontokali.
What a beautiful, friendly, family run hotel.
There is a slight incline leading up to the Aleka, but nothing too drastic. Being a bit on the cuddly side myself, I didn’t find it too much of a struggle.
Ok, so the rooms are basic......but clean. Aleka and Spiros the owners, are friendly. They will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay in their hotel, and have a really lovely holiday. Their son Renos {not sure if spelt right} is also friendly and funny.{Ladies he certainly catches your eyes}.Spiros keeps the pool well maintained. Always clean and tidy. The poolside bar serves some delicious food. Very reasonable prices.
If there is a problem with your room, Spiros is only too happy to sort it out for you. I remember we didn’t have a plug in our basin. I spoke to Spiros, and he told me, that he would look for one for me. I only wanted to wash out a couple of bits of clothing. He found me a bit later on that day, and told me that he couldn’t find one. I told him that it wasn’t a problem. He said no problem, I have been and bought one for you. I thought that was really nice of him. There were, on numerous occasions, nights we spent by the pool drinking, playing pool until very late. Spiros didn’t mind. He told us, that he would go to bed when we had all left. Sometimes we were still sat there at 1 or 2 in the morning.
There was, a little while back, a bad review on the Aleka Hotel in a newspaper. I was very disgusted to read it. I couldn’t believe how much rubbish had been written. What did this journalist expect......THE RITZ!! They said that the owners were rude, the rooms were dirty. Believe me, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I actually went back there in 2003 for my holiday, and a few others joined us on that holiday, and they were most impressed with the Aleka. One person in particular that joined us on that holiday, was Sailor, a close family friend.
I would recommend the Aleka Hotel to anyone who was looking to holiday in Kontokali Corfu. It is unfortunate that we are not going back there this year. This is only because they have no tour operator, as they were with Golden Sun. Nevertheless, I will pop in to see Spiros, Aleka and Renos, to say hi and have a drink with them, and let them know that hopefully next year, when they have a tour operator, we will be back staying at the Aleka Hotel.
The Aleka Hotel receives 5 stars from me. *****
