The Aberdeen is ideal for those who want/need to chill and relax or want peace and quiet.
Studios are traditional Greek format, small, but well equipped, very clean and well serviced with the linen changes. Snack menu is limited but the food is good, bar prices sensible. We were never hounded into buying from the bar and always recieved polite courteous and helpful service, throughout the 2 weeks. Carol runs everything in a quiet efficient manner and will help with any problems.Vasilis offers intelligent and informative conversation and may wish to include you in his weekly performance, but not under pressure. No karaoke, no bingo, no greek nights(thank heavens),but we now know how to lay olives down for eating, prepare oregano for storage and more about Greek life.
Studios are on the outskirts of the town and a 15 min easy walk to the centre (we are both 58).Has the normal gift shops, plenty of tavernas, banks with atm's and approx 4 chemists. Lots of archaeology, museum, arts centre. All typically friendly Greek. Nearest taverna to studios is Muses, only 5 mins walk before the ferry port and one of the best we ate at.
- Activities: Only had 1 very average meal, all others good average or better.

My husband and I have just returned after our 7th holiday at The Aberdeen Studios and in fact have already booked for 2010!!! Carol, Vasilis and Zoe were as friendly, helpful and considerate as they were on the first holiday we had there. The studios are typically Greek and well looked after. The pool area is lovely, clean and peaceful with lots of sunbeds and olive trees to sit under whilst reading, lazing peacefully in the sun or swimming. Carol makes breakfast and small snacks during the day and I can recommend her Greek Salad and her home made Greek soups are to die for!!! Everyone is made welcome from the moment they arrive. The bar area is again under the olive trees and the atmosphere is lovely. In the evening when people come back from the town most people meet in the pool bar and get to know one another. Converstaion, music (but not to loud that you can't here one another talk) and laughter is the norm. A good sense of humour is needed. It is a lovely 10-15 mins.walk into town, although there are tavernas and small beaches nearer. As someone who cannot walk very far it is easy to stop and rest on the way and to get a taxi to return for only 4 euros. The island is beautiful and the people very friendly. We have never had any reason not to walk anywhere at anytime of the day or night. There is a small shopping area and variety of shops in the town centre and a lovely walk along the port but there is not a lot for children in the evening.

My son and I returned from our 8th visit to the Aberdeen Studios last month. He was 10 years old when we first went and right from the outset we were made to feel very welcome by both Carol and Vasilli. There is not a lot of children who stay here, but when they do they are most certainly made to feel welcome. We would not have returned even once if this was not the case. I also take exception to the gentleman's comments that these apartments are only for the only 55's, as I can assure you I have not reached that milestone yet!! There is a relaxing yet fun atmosphere around the pool and bar, which are kept clean and tidy. The bed linen and towels are changed on a very regular basis and rooms cleaned daily. Thassos is a beautiful, relaxing island with plenty of secluded beaches and and mountain villages to explore. All of the people are very friendly and welcoming and I have always felt completely safe when walking the streets, even late at night. If you are looking for childrens clubs and plenty of entertainment within a resort this is not for you, but if you wish to enjoy a holiday on a lovely greek island with friendly people and good food then try it.

The previous comments have been interesting to read. Myself and my husband stayed at the Aberdeen Studios for one week in August. We felt that the rooms were actually kept pretty clean although I do understand what previous reviewers mean. Some of the 'new linen and towels days' were erratic! However, it was fine for a basic Greek studio.
I do understand what the previous reviewer means about the focus on the 'regulars'. Usually, when we we visit Greece, the owners can't do enough for you. I just found these owners quite difficult to talk to and so didn't pursue it, although they weren't actually rude. It depends what you want from your hosts.
The set up of the pool is lovely. We liked the fact that there were often not many people round there. As a couple in our early 30s we were quite happy that there were not many children around, but I do see that it wouldn't be appropriate for young children.
If you are unfortunate enough to get a studio at the front of the property then don't be surprised if you are woken up many times a night by the very noisy road that runs along the front of the property. Don't be fooled by the Kosmar brochure and what you imagine a 'busy' Greek road to be! It is far worse than you could imagine. If you like your sleep then this is not the place for you. This is why my rating is low.
We quite liked the walk into town and back, but it is quite far and if you struggle with walking then you will need to take a taxi.
In town, Simi serves good food, although on busy nights the service can be too quick, believe it or not! Along the seafront there is a taverna owned by an English woman. The service there is great. I think it is called Thassious, or something like that!
I hope this helps anyone looking to book a trip to Thassos. Personally, on balance, I wouldn't recommend the Aberdeen Studios to anyone, which is a shame, because without the road noise it would be a decent place to stay.

Just back from a fabulous 2 weeks staying at the Aberdeen studios in Thassos. We were welcomed with a much needed cuppa by Carol and Vassilli as we arrived ahead of our coach which had got left behind in traffic at Keramoti. Our lovely rep arrived with our cases an hour later. I cannot commend Carol and Vassilli highly enough. Unfortunately I managed to fall over coming out of our room one evening.......there had been a torrential thunder storm earlier and the marble step was wet. No one to blame but myself there are warnings up to be careful in circumstances just as this.
Vassilli came straight away to help and being a qualified first aider took control. He bought ice for my hand which had begun to swell and kept coming back to check on me. Next morning he drove me to the health centre in Prinos and interpreted for me when we saw the doctor. My hand was fractured and I returned to big cheers complete with plaster cast and sling. I could not have had better treatment or attention if I had been royalty.I was able to enjoy the rest of the holiday even going in the pool and sitting on the step in the shallow end.Carol and Vassilli.....you are fantastic!!!!!!!!

The apartments are very basic which is the norm for Greece however these are not very clean and a bit of care and attention, along with new towels and bed linen would go a long way! The owners are very unfriendly unless you are one of the regulars which go every single year! The regulars are all a much older group, therefore I would not reccomend this to people under 55 years old.Children are neither accepted or wanted at this resort regardless of age! And the owners make this very clear with their attitude and behaviour. (This should be marketed as over 55's only). This is a very un-greek attitude. The pool area is never cleaned or tidied and the only shade is under the overgrown olive trees, there are no umberellas and the lilos that are there for all the guests to use to make the sun beds more comfortable are taken by the regulars each evening to their rooms to make sure they have them. They definately take over the resort. No noise of any kind is allowed around the pool-people speak in whispers! The evening entertainment is strange- grown men dressed in nighties and singing to childrens party songs, the owner then shows this videoed event to the new guests the following week! Thassos town is lovely and so are the people there, the restaurants especially 'Twins' and 'Muses' were lovely. I would recomend a car to visit other beaches and definately use the water taxi to Golden Beach, the local beaches are ok but not the best!.We used the facilities at other Kosmar hotels and the welcome was so much nicer and the pools were better and cleaner.Especially Arethia Hotel.Would not recomend this resort and would certainly never visit again but would go to Thassos again.

We have visited Aberdeen Studios for the past 7 years and before we left we booked again for 2009.
Every year it is like coming home and the welcome we get on arrival is almost as if we are family.
The rooms are basic with twin beds, wardrobe, dresser and bench, there is a fridge, cupboard and sink and an electric two ring stove. The toilet facilities are basic Greek with a mirror and shelf over the sink, a toilet and shower tray. All the apartments have air con. at an additional daily fee.
The apartments are kept spotless by Zoi, and the bedding and towels are changed frequently. Zoi also keeps bar at night which allows Vassilis to play with the guests.
Vassilis and Carol, his wife, are the owners. Carol is lovely, friendly and helpful and Scottish and Vassilis known as "The Boss" is Greek and organises lots of activities for the guests to join in with, or just to watch others enjoying making a fool of themselves. We have made lots of friends over the years and we all try to meet up annually at Aberdeen Studios.
Carol provides a food service all day from full English breakfasts to Greek salads and toasties, she also puts on traditional Greek soups such as lentil and bean if you want something lighter but filling.
In the Town there are many fine restaurants such as the Zodiac and the Twins which are run by two brothers both of whom provide a free glass of wine if you have eaten in the others Taverna. Thassos is about a 20 minute steady walk from the Studios or you can order a taxi which currently costs 4€. Nearer to the studios are restaurants such as the Meditaranean, the Posiedon, and Muses all of which are only a 5 min walk away and offer good value for money.
Kosmar organises quite a few trips to local spots around the island or you can hire a car for a few days and explore the island yourself.
The Aberdeen is not really suited for younger children as there is no childs pool or childrens activities but older accompanied teenagers usually fit in very well. Generally the holiday is well suited for adults who just want to relax, replenish the batteries and enjoy the laid back atmosphere.

This our third time at Aberdeen Studios and will always yearn to come back for more! Carol & Vasillis always make you so welcome and encourage you to join in whatever activity is on offer and is a great way to meet other guests. This year we joined in olive picking and then olive crushing (poor olive!), yet another new experience. Thank you once again C & V XX Love from Soo & Jim

We have just returned home after our third holiday at Aberdeen Studios with Carol and the 'Boss'. Once again we were made to feel one of the family and enjoyed sampling all of Carols traditional Greek food.
The apartments are spotlessly clean and Zoi made sure we had fresh linen and towels available. Carol even pops a carton of milk in the fridge for that much needed cuppa when you arrive.
The pool is beautifully maintained and there are plenty of sun loungers..... no need to put your beach towel out to save one!
There are plenty of tavernas and restaurants to suit all tastes and a fabulous little bakery that we find impossible to walk past. If you looking for a peaceful holiday this is the place. It's a little gem!

Just returned from Thassos where we stayed at the Aberdeen Studios in Thassos Town.
The apartments were clean and quite but very basic. Carol was lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
The brochure states that they are a 15 minute walk from town it is more like 25 minutes going to town downhill, coming back a taxi is needed. We felt they were too far out of town and a bit remote. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday where there is no load music just peace and quite then this is the place to go.
Whilst there we ate out every night there are some lovely tavernas in Thassos town and they are very reasonable in price. My favourite was the Thasssian on the front you were always greeted with a warm welcome and friendly staff. The owners were really nice people. If you fancy an English breakfast then you must visit Jeanies bar for the best cup of tea and breakfast on the island.
We hired a car and toured round the island but I must say that Thassos Town was the best resort on the island. It had everything you could possible need.

The island of thassos is lovely offering beautiful landscape, pretty villages, and a wide choice of beaches, great food and wine, at very reasonable prices. there are many excellent tavernas in limenas (thassos town) our favorites were simis, takis, pigis, mouyses, the twins, and patrikos.
The aberdeen apartments offer something very different in a holiday carol and zoi looked after their guests at the pool bar brilliantly and made sure the rooms were comfortable, well equiped and clean. bar prices are great and the local speciality food was superb. vasilis acted as operations director making sure they did their work, as his main function was to keep everyone entertained and in order. we were warned by him that this place is not normal and it certainly wasnt, signs around the pool set the tone of what is to come, we were regularly informed that returning guests were coming back for more punishment.... and they actually were! the team quickly created an inclusive community of guests generating a great atmosphere and most of them actually wanted to join in.
the entertainment is unusual to say the least and anarchic in line with vasilis' nutty sence of humour. its an experience that keeps guests returning for more and i can understand why and will be joining them at sometime provided vasilis has not been sectioned by then!
