Hotel Villa Maria

Location is in the center of town. Breakfast was excellent and offered many choices of hot food, pastries and fruit. Front desk very friendly and helpful, rooms above average, breakfast and service very good. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to spend a few days in Sorrento, visiting the Amalfi coast, Pompei, Capri. Staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful. The room we had was on the second floor and was really lovely. There wasn't much noise from the road, even though we were at the front of the hotel. The bathroom in particular was nice.The pool area is lovely for anyone wanting to sit or eat.

I have stayed at this place during 2006 summer. It was my first time visit Sorrento and i was really excited about good review i have read about this hotel. All i can said, the hotel really looks like my high school dorm room with a dusty broken TV. It looks like no one has been using the room for long time, also, beware of the broken hair dryer, I almost got electricty shock... Oh well,There are too many hotel out there for the same price in Sorrento. i will go back to beautiful sorrento again but definelly not this awful hotel..

took a 2nd trip to sorrento and stayed at hotel villa maria again. everything was in order, the pool was great. the price is just right. we love the location,so we can walk to everything. why people complain about noise? we seem to have no problems, are there better hotels? yes, but this one is in the perfect spot. the hotel is clean, plenty of towels. will come again

I would like to qualify this review by stating that if I had know about tripadvisor.com prior to our Italy trip I would've never booked with this Sorrento hotel, since there are so many other hotels with better reviews. Why risk it. Also my wife is far from high maintenance. To her credit, after the initial shock of the room conditions, she put the hotel experience behind her and focused on enjoying the city of Sorrento. We arrived in Sorrento late to the hotel, but had a "Pre- paid” reservation for a deluxe sea view room. The girl at front desk stated that they had called our travel agent and that the agent said if we hadn't shown up yet then they won't be coming. It was a Sunday so I could not confirm this. I said well what about our sea view room that we had pre-paid. She stated that since they thought we were not coming, that they had booked other guests in the room. She stated that they only had one room left, and since it was so late we really did not have many options. They also kept stating it was our fault for not contacting them that we were going to be late. I told them since the room was prepaid and even if we had never showed up and the room stayed empty they were paid anyway. They had no response to this statement. They put us in a room in an adjacent building that was quite inferior for what we had paid for, and my wife was on the verge of tears, hoping for our nice room with a sea view after a long drive, only to get a "piece of crap" room up three flights of stairs, no elevator, no phone, towels that were not terri cloth but were like large cloth napkins. The heat didn't work, the television didn’t work and the street noise was quite significant, however since it was very cool we kept the windows closed. this helped the street noise situation. I asked the front desk since they gave our room away could we at least get the price difference of the rooms “thinking it had to be about 100EU”. They stated that it was about $20 and that since we pre-paid, that we would need to work it out with the travel agency. Needless to say we put in the request as a matter of principal but the money is not the point. The point is they took our prepaid room and rebooked it, and got paid for it twice!! I have attached some photos of the room. This place looked more like a dorm instead of a hotel. Again there are too many good hotels out there for the same price. Traveler beware

We stayed in the Hotel Villa Maria in Sept. We decided to book our trip a week before we left and there was virtually NO availability left in Sorrento so Villa Maria was the best we could find. We had a double duluxe room which had a large terrace overlooking the sea and Vesuvius. It is on the busy main road into Sorrento so the traffic noise is pretty bad. We had read reviews before so were prepared and took earplugs. We did have to use these when we had a room right on the road, we also had a room at the back of the hotel which was quieter. If you are a light sleeper you may want to consider staying somewhere quieter as the Italians do honk their horns alot!!! The location is good 7 min or so to Tasso Sq and 10-15 mins to the station, 15 mins to the port. The staff were friendly and on the whole, efficient and helpful. The rooms are fine, basic but clean. We had a very small TV which didn't work brilliantly and kept losing BBC world! There was a safe - if it is locked when you arrive they will unlock it for you - call down to reception. The bathrooms were fine, lots of towels. Overall the Villa Maria is a simple, 3 star hotel. Friendly and in a good location. If you don't want something flash then its a good bet.

Just returned from Sorrento and the Villa Maria was in a great location. It was also near the Marina Grande which suited my fisherman husband. There was also a supermarket just a few yards from the hotel. The food was ok in the hotel and the breakfast ok as far as continental goes. The staff were all helpful and the last person was right the sauna never opened. Overall it was clean and the room was quiet.

A great hotel you would have to go a long way to get better ,great food great room a really nice hotel .Sorrento is my favourite holiday location bay far ,if you go to sorrento you must go to the isle of capri heaven and take a boat around the isle ,i feel as if i haved died and gone to heaven .

What lovely staff, the lady at reception with the long hair was very helpful. The manager and his wife were also excellent, the breakfast was very good as well. We had a lovely view over the Bay of Naples and the room was very clean, we would stay here again when we return to Sorrento. Deryl Dowling Tasmania Australia

We just got back from a great holiday in Sorrento and the Villa Maria was a brilliant location. It was noisy, but we were there for the world cup and it would otherwise be ok if you are used to city traffic. Other hotels in Sorrento are better, but you would find it harder to walk into town from them and this was a real benefit. The rooftop pool is a real treat, the breakfasts were just great (except for the coffee) especially in view of the fact that Italians don't really get the concept of breakfast. Staff were just fine, the room was clean and air conditioned. No luxury but we were out seeing the area and didn't need the hotel as a resource except for a couple of rest days!

We stayed here for 7 nights on a 8 day break to sorrento. It is a fantastic hotel in beautiful surroundings. It is 5 mins walk from the Town Square and a 15 min walk to the Marina Grande, which has a superb variety of restaurants. The rooms were very clean and staff very frendly. The pool is perfect for an afternoon dip when the temp is topping 35 degrees. Strongly recommended.
