Rome is the perfect holiday destination; brimming with breath-taking sights and crammed full of good quality and surprisingly cheap restaurants and pizzerias. It was perfect for 3 18 year old girls relaxing after exams!
We didn’t expect much from our budget hotel, Hotel Mariano, but we found a comfortable room with everything we needed. We came to find that close proximity to the Termini Station was a blessing. Ryanair's bus service shuttle tourists from Ciampino airport to the station and tube trains run frequently to all corners of the city for 1euro per trip. With this ease of travel were never short of things to do (or eat)!
The latter of which is very lucky because the food at Hotel Mariano was not exactly up to scratch. The first morning we awoke hungry and ready for the spread downstairs (after all Italian food is world renowned for being fantastic) only to find hollow bread rolls, and an impostor orange liquid calling itself "orange juice". Let’s just say the next morning we weren’t hungry!
The staff at the Mariano definitely made up for the breakfast though. Holiday makers are treated very well and although not all staff could speak fluent English it gave us a chance to practise our lingo. And even when that failed we still had the universal language of pointing, nods and smiles!
Hotel Mariano is good value for money and in a prime position for exploring the city, either by foot or by tube. All in all it is a great hotel if you are only planning to sleep there, and with everything that is available in Rome, there’s not much time for anything else!
