Delightful pools and gardens....
2 / 10
Nov 2007, Mrs S.m Howes

Delightful pools and gardens. Dreadful food waited 10min for some sliced bread for toast. Bar area very small and hard to get served. Information very poor.
Ideal beach/ sea for children very shallow but a long walk in sea for swimmers. No smoking areas in restaurant not enforced. Rooms large and comfortable, TV programmes excellent 4 channels in English besides news.
Long way from Naama bay £20 by taxi not a lot near hotel. Entertainment terrible, only animation team.

Just got back... Thank Goodness!!...

Just got back... Thank Goodness!! This hotel is never 5*, at most I would give it a 3* rating and that is only because the staff deserve more credit.. we normally stay in the Coral Sea Resort next door but it was fully booked for the week so we decided to try this one because we know the stretch of beach well as we've now been 5 times now and if you like sunshine you cant beat it.
The tour company we went with was a new company to us and I didn't know what to expect as we had only ever been with First Choice, but I must say they were faultless with both the price and also the transfers at the resort. The rep also made himself available to us even though we were the only ones from their company at the hotel, so that made us feel better...
At this time of year the hotel was full of Russians and boy are they both rude, ignorant and their children are well we wont say no more as it would make me sound very cruel. We sat there and witnessed one of these monsters dismantle a lovely model ship in the reception area whilst being watched by the hotel staff who are not in a position to say anything because they rely on their custom, and it took a plucky English lady to stop them and it could have got nasty.
Our room was very clean and modern but the water is a brown colour that comes out of the taps and now fully explains why my wife and I came back with such a nice colour...
The staff are great and are very friendly to the British as we are in the habit of queuing, saying please and thank you as not experienced by the Russians so they warm to us very well.
The hotel food is rubbish unless this particular week was Russian week, no choice, no fresh fruit, and a swimming pool in the restaurant??? novel I suppose! But again the staff are very nice.

This hotel is very worn outside on the paths nearer the beach so if you are walking without shoes straight from the beach be aware!!! Some one made the comment earlier about the stinky water they spray the gardens with, I only hope this is not the same water that comes out of the taps.
I make it sound as if I had a terrible time and we didn't because we met some lovely people and also met up with some Egyptian friends we have met over the years. It was also my choice to try this hotel so I blame no one, but I wont be going back... so it looks like the lovely Coral Sea again for the 4th time... much more Brit friendly and a much higher standard of hotel. Don't be put off with Sharm from this as there are some great complexes to go to.
Thank for your time
MC

The Oriental is a great place to...
9 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr M Messitt

The Oriental is a great place to stay.
The food was very well presented, fresh and plenty of variety. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Their local beer was quite good and the wine was not bad. The rooms were clean and the general up keep of the place was second to none. The 5 star rating is a little off the mark but this is still a very enjoyable place to stay.
If you're looking to book day trips get a second opinion on prices from some of the local tour operators in Na'ama bay. Hotel rep was charging £175 GBP per head for day trip to Cairo, in Na'ama Bay the tourist offices were charging £100 GBP per head.

Just came back from a months holiday...
10 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss C Reeson

Just came back from a months holiday in the oriental resort and after reading all these reviews. I thought I would give my view point! The hotel was awesome the people def made the trip! Everyone was so friendly and not too in your face like some of them make out! They ask how many camels you want to every girl they see it is just a way of making conversation, nothing else nothing more so to be honest some people are just being petty!
The animation team were amazing especially Oscar, Willy and crew, they made the days fun and enjoyable and I am still keeping in contact with them now!
Ok the food at the hotel becomes repetitive but I’m picky and my family found enough every night to fill them up, there was enough of a selection to choose from!
The rooms are spacious, most looking onto the main pool, they are cleaned everyday and you get clean towels every day too which is obviously a plus point!
There are two pools in the hotel one main where you have the pool bar , slide, mini kids pool etc with music playing all day and the second pool is smaller and more secluded, tends to be used by the couples. And then there the beach entertainment also takes place down there from 10-12 and then again at 3-4:30 there are many activities to keep everyone amused- from darts to volleyball to water polo the list could go on. Also at lunch there are stone baked pizzas down at the beach which are lush!
If you decide to go to Egypt you need to try the diving or snorkelling from experience I can say it is amazing- a day trip out to tiran island or Ras Mohammed is around about £20 each but you stay there all day from 8am- 5pm!
Anyway as you can see I loved the place and we’ve already booked a family holiday for December and then we’ve also booked a girly holiday for out in February! I felt so safe out there, safe enough to go out with a group of friends on my own which says it all- the Egyptians
are flirts but to be honest the girls lap it up it's just fun banter
If you haven’t been before it’s a worth while place to visit.

Sep 2007, Mr B Dayal

The resort is amazing, clean, and perfectly presented with lush gardens and swimming pools.
The people are really friendly and the animation team are really friendly and we all had a good laugh together. Lots of activities here, and the food is amazing.
Don’t know why people have made negative comments about this place but I just loved it.
We went as a party of 5 and we are all returning to Oriental Resort next year with even more people. I have been to Moon Palace in Cancun, Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, Maldives and this is a holiday which is just as perfect. Can’t wait to go back...
Only negative point I have about the holiday is that we only went for 1 week. Next time it will definitely be 2 weeks.

Aug 2007, Miss E Shaw

I have just returned from one week at the oriental resort and had a brilliant time. The flight on the way out was awful the staff had such a bad manor and did not want to help with anything.
When I arrived at the hotel I was greeted by the reception and they were brilliant they told me everything I needed to know about the serving times and so on. They handed me my room key and also a towel card. My bag was delivered to my room by a very nice gentlemen.
I then went down the restaurant and all the waiter's greeted me and then showed me to a table and sorted drinks out for me. There was a wide selection of different foods so I had plenty to choose from.
After eating I went to the lobby bar which was busy but the Russian did try to push in front but the waiters never let this happen and always knew who to serve first and good on them.
The entertainment team were brilliant because I went on my own they always made sure that I was getting involved. I did the yoga in the morning also with belly dancing with ruxy who knows what she is doing and is a brilliant dancer. Keep up the good work ruxy!
And also did the darts as well even though I was not very good at it Oscar had some tricks up his sleeve with things such as if you score 0 then I had to do a strip tease dance and also had to go and kiss as many men as I could on the beach in one minute.
Oscar needs to learn some new words as his favourite is whatever. But the animation team are brilliant keep up the good work! Big hello to ruxy oscar willy and amr!
All staff are brilliant and I like the saying on there tops come as a guest leave as a friend and its true you will leave as a friend.
Hoping to go back soon
Brilliant holiday.

The oriental resort is an absolutely...

Jul 2007, Miss Laura Scott

The oriental resort is an absolutely amazing hotel everything you need to enjoy a holiday is on your resort I cannot understand at all why people are writing bad comments about it. I went with my boyfriend and 2 friends for 2 weeks and didn’t want to come home. We’ve already booked for next September and there are 17 people going
The rooms are out of this world either 2 dbl beds or 1 massive bed they are clean and tidy and kept this way by the maids who do ask for tips sometimes but are still very friendly.
The food is ok this was the only downside for us really as everyone knows how much English people like there chips we asked for chips every dinner and teatime and got them. Other foods being served were things such as beef chicken rice pastas salads kebabs everything was edible and there was always something you could eat
On site was 1 huge swimming pool and 1 'relaxing' pool were no music got played just about a 5 minute walk down the beautiful gardens would lead you to the beach a little disappointing was the beach as it was very gritty and not very clean but it was ok. That doesn’t matter because once you walk into the sea you then experience your holiday. I don’t think anybody will be disso pointed by what they see.
The staff are friendly the bar staff the hotel staff the catering staff reception staff everyone at this hotel is always happy to help.
Being all inclusive, don’t take too much money you don’t need it you can find food and drink until 12pm then you have to pay but jus do what we did order 5 beers 5 cocktails and whatever else you want at 11.30 you laughing then!
If you waiting to go on this holiday to this resort let me tell you now you won’t be disappointed this resort was so much more than we expected I hope it is for you too.

I didn’t think this hotel was that...

Jul 2007, Miss J Jones

I didn’t think this hotel was that bad, ok so it wasn’t five stars but a good four star. The staff were brilliant, the rooms were huge - aircon worked! The hotel was very clean and the food was ok not brilliant!
Only two faults with hotel 1st was the beach... this was a long walk in 50 degrees heat and the snorkelling was rubbish (nothing to see but dead coral), but the water was warm and clear.
2nd was evening entertainment... well there wasn’t any apart from a cheesy disco which was awful and very loud! So me and my boyfriend were back at the room most nights by 10.30 with beers to watch a film (good movie channel in room).
We made it into Naama Bay a few nights by taxi (do not pay more than £5 English pound and get in a proper taxi) well this was an experience it felt like being in las Vegas. Be careful here and avoid getting hassled by the locals.
I would not go back to Egypt but nothing to do with the hotel, this country is too dirty and too strange and way too hot in July.
A few tips to remember:
1. the hotel all inclusive stops at midnight
2. Shop opposite hotel is cheaper for cigs and alcohol than airport shop + the airport shop does not accept any card payment
3. Do not touch the water at all not even to brush your teeth in
4. Lots of invisible mozzies - the jungle spray doesn’t work get something stronger
5. Everyone expects a tip... but you don’t have to... also tip no more than a few English pound.
6. To see the delights under the red sea go on a snorkelling trip organised with your rep, we did and it was brilliant!

I and my girlfriend were really looking forward to this holiday we had it booked way in advance. When we got there the hotel was lovely, nice, clean, and welcoming.
The first morning we woke up to the most awful stench of sewage which to our amazement the gardeners were spraying the gardens with!
Then we experienced the brown water not only coming from our taps but from the shower as well!
My girlfriend fell ill and had to call the doctor out which cost us 120 sterling pound, due to the food not being cooked properly.
The beach was ok but the snorkelling was disappointing, the coral had all died, and the jetty out to the sea felt 3 miles long.
The waiting and bar staff made the holiday with their friendly and well mannered approach!!
Wouldn’t advise anyone to go in July as the heat is unbearable as we couldn’t really sit out in it.
All in all disastrous!

Jul 2007, G Hufton

Me my partner and son stayed at this hotel and we had a superb time. The staff are really friendly, lots of entertainment, shame we didn’t go for 2wks.
The food was excellent and there’s lots of choice, some people suffer with a tummy upset which can be sorted at the chemist over the road, which is open 24hrs.
It’s a must to do the snorkelling, because the fish are really colourful, want to go again in September, recommend this hotel to anyone.

May 2007, Mrs F Somerville

Stayed here for two weeks from 3rd May. Weather was fantastic and the people very friendly.
The hotel was lovely with beautiful gardens and lovely pool areas, especially the posh pool with its fancy seating and loungers. There was never any problem getting loungers at any of the pools or beach no matter what time you went down.
Not a great beach, as I have been in Sharm twice before and Sharks Bay is much nicer, but it was nice to walk along the jetty and see the fabulous tropical fish.
Hotel food was excellent, even after two weeks there was still a great choice. The Egyptian night on Fridays is the business if you like Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food - I love it!
The Restaurant areas and the Chef's were spotlessly clean; we ate in the hotel for two weeks and had no tummy upsets. The Italian Restaurant is good - but the portions are huge so don't order too much, and it is great value for money.
There's entertainment a few times a week and also across the road there is a square where they put on party nights and have dance shows etc. The Animation Team do work tirelessly and are all good fun, especially Willy!
I enjoyed the water aerobics just before lunchtime and they did belly dancing lessons and yoga at the beach in the mornings.
The rooms were a great size and again, spotless.
We had a fab time. There are plenty of excursions, boat trips etc to do if you get bored easily, but we went to relax and be pampered and that's what we got.

We stayed at the Oriental from 8/3/07...
7 / 10
Apr 2007, john51

We stayed at the Oriental from 8/3/07 to 22/03/07, we found this hotel to be very nice.
Not sure about the 5*rating though. Reception was very nice and roomy, and staff were extremely helpful. Have to agree with the previous review about the lack of seating in the reception area, it was poor to say the least.
The disco also was far too close to reception, and far too loud as was most of the music played. Iit was impossible to sit and have a quiet drink after your evening meal.
Now the good points and there were plenty of them.
The rooms were very large with a huge king size bed, a settee, tv, fridge, coffee making facilities,(Nescafe), nice veranda overlooking the pool and the very well kept gardens, which were in full bloom.
10/10 for the gardeners they worked nonstop all day, gave them a nice tip.
The room was also kept extremely clean, the cleaner would ask every day if the room was to your satisfaction.
The dining room was well laid out as was the food at meal times, there was something for everyone no matter how fussy an eater you are. I thought the food was excellent, large choice, always hot, and well presented, and very tasty. A little bit repetitive
the second week but that’s to be expected, you get that at most hotels.
the pool areas were nice never crowded you could always get a sun bed whatever time of day you went, the food from the pool bar was a bit bland but edible.
The beach was lovely as was the water, crystal clear and warm and very shallow safe for children, though not many fish to see even if you went to the end of the jetty.
As for the animation team well frankly they just weren’t up to it, all they seemed interested in was waking people up, they were good with the kids though.
They have just opened a new shopping precinct opposite the oriental called La Strada,
which will be very nice when it’s finished. There is a supermarket there where you can buy cigs and booze for next to nothing.
I’m telling you this because the whisky and brandy in the hotel was disgusting, it was undrinkable. Saying that the vodka and rum were ok, as the hotel had quite a few Russians staying there and they were drinking the vodka, it had to be good.
The massage and gym were well layed out, they had a Thai girl if you wanted a Thai massage.
All in all this is a lovely hotel you won’t be disappointed if you stay here, it’s not 5*more 4* but still worth 7/10.
PS. Take a hat even at the end of winter, the sun is HOT.
