Bait and switch!! I reserved 2 rooms...
1 / 10
Oct 2007, Mr G James

Bait and switch!! I reserved 2 rooms at the Empire Palace through BestWestern.com in June 2007 for arrival in October and had a Best Western confirmation number. Upon arrival, both my guests and I were taken to the Hotel Amber. I booked the Empire Palace specifically for its location and amenities. The Hotel Amber is not in the same location or of the same quality. One of my guests uses a wheelchair, so the impact of this change was not insignificant. No explanation for the change was given and no price discount or other compensation was offered. It was late at night so we had no real options to go elsewhere.
I was told that both hotels are owned by the same person. I firmly believe that this owner uses the Hotel Amber as a place to shuffle individuals when large groups or "preferred" clients want to stay at the Empire Palace (Hotel Amber shows no availability on BestWestern.com regardless of the date requested; this looks like the owner manages his own "bookings" so he can change confirmed reservations at the Empire Palace as he pleases).
Stay away from both the Empire Palace and the Hotel Amber!!

We found the hotel very pleasant,...
8 / 10
Aug 2006, Mrs K M Lavelle

We found the hotel very pleasant, quiet side street, but near enough to all attractions and termini.
The room was a little on the small size and also the bathroom only had a small shower cubicle which was okay for us but not if you're on the big size! Not much of a view from the room and we were awoken before 7.30am to workmen dismantling scaffolding. Breakfast was the usual fare catering mostly to American tastes, would have been nice to have the option of toast but no toaster.
Didn't eat in restaurant on evenings plenty of local eateries to choose from. The bar was a bit dark and seating not that comfy. The bar staff on the whole gave good service but one in particular was miserable.

This hotel is a ten and then some....

Dec 2005, Mrs T Theresa

This hotel is a ten and then some. The empire palace is beautiful, and spotless. There were 8 of us and we all agreed this hotel was outstanding. The breakfast included with the room was fantastic.
Everything was fresh and presentation was beautiful. Loved the coffee served with a small pitcher of warm foamed milk. All around this hotel is excellent. The entire staff was very friendly and spoke English. I highly recommend it.
