" it was ok i suppose "

me my mum dad nd brother had never been abroud before so the four of us plus my nan nd grandad went to turkey and stayed at atac hotel it was a suprise for my 2 uncles and 3 cousins at first the out side of the hotel looked gruby when we got inside it was ok at first as we got further in to the holiday we found staff moaning about the children in our family laghing and having a laugh complaints were constatly made about us jumping in the pool because we get people who were sat on the edge of the pool were getting wet the state of the room was ok we were only gonna sleep in there after all but the bathroom was awful and they were really strict on the toilet paper there was a few kind members of staff like ike rasit and a few more but the thing that really ruined the holiday was when some one on reception threatened to kill my cousin for laughing we were walking through reception in the middle of the day and he said to my cousin 'ill break your bones' we checked with another member of staff and he clarified it meant im gonna kill you so if you go just dont laugh cus you'll get threatened the only thing that made the holiday was the 2 restaurants charlies bar and jollys and the cheap designer clothes and bags e.t.c i hope this helps you make your decision

" good location just don't expect luxury "

We didn't expect luxury from this Turkish 3star hotel and we certainly didn't get it. The room was basic as we knew it would be but the shower didn't work, most of the time there was no hot water and only one plug socket worked. The small glimpse we had of the food preparation area at breakfast wasn't very clean however we were satisfied with the breakfast on offer. The restaraunt manager Ike was friendly enough but every time he came to talk with us he tried to get us to eat our evening meal at the hotel. The first time the meal was cold and they had run out of pitta bread (pretty important for a kebab)so they just brought ordinary bread, the second time was the special Turkish night with all different salads and meat (chicken, lamb, and beef)buffet style NOT. The salads, rice and pasta were fine but you were then served the meat which consisted of 2 chicken wings (suspect they were actually a sparrows from the amount of meat on) the tiniest cubes of lamb that could be put on a skewer and 2 half sized burgers. The rest of the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and you can't fault the location. It's really close to a lovely beach and there are loads of good local restraunts and bars. I wasn't happy about getting hassled from the shops and bars every time we went out and I think Altinkum is just too commercialised for me, a bit like Benidorm, however there were many people we met who love it and keep going year after year.

Advice: great beaches and plenty of places to eat and drink however very commercial and 'British'

Activities: 'Jolly's' is good food and have a Turkish bath

" Love it! Back next year "

My initial impression of the Hotel Atac was that it was a very simple hotel. Bed, bathroom. However, given that when you go on holiday you only want a shower and a sleep from your hotel room, the simplicity of it wasn't an issue. The room was clean, and had everything you need.
What really makes the Hotel Atac one of the best places to stay, is the staff. From the owner to the lads who work behind the bar I have never been made to feel more welcome. They couldn't do enough for you, nothing was too much, friendly and helpful.
The drinks and food were all reasonably priced, the evening meals were fantastic, and again didn't break the bank, so much so that myself and my partner ate there on a number of occasions during our stay. The Turkish night on Friday nights was fantastic fun and made even more so by the staff doing their best and working hard to get everyone involved.
From reading the comments here, I will say that never did I find the staff rude or unreasonable towards those with children. Though they curbed unruly and frankly sometimes dangerous behaviour in the pool, such as jumping in, running around the poolside, or splashing the other guests by the pool, I found none these warnings, gently and quietly given, to be unjustified, simple that they were given to ensure that everyone from families to couples can enjoy the pool area.
A fantastic hotel, a wonderful team of staff. Back next year for sure.

" ok but not brilliant "

where do i begin, on arrival we found reception and staff were very nice towards us helping us to are room with are suitcases. However the sea view rooms were very small and basic with no tv or fridge but were kept very clean by the cleaners that came in everyday and changed towels regually. The pool area's were both very spacoius and clean however we used the hotel pool more due to it having a shallow end which is unusual in hotels in turkey. The first week we were able to get sunbeds no problem but later in the holiday all sunbeds were gone early by people that weren't staying at the atac hotel so i would advice people who like to lounge around the pool to get up early and bag yourself a bed. If you are unable to get a bed i can recommend going to the beach which is only 2 mins away and only costs 4 lira for a sunbed all day. The staff were friendly at first but we found them to be very pushy towards eating and drinking at the hotel at night time when we liked to go out around the restaurants. At nighttime we would recommend going to the buzz bar and british bar for a drink as they had good entertainment and friendly staff who never hassle, for eating out the touch of class was fantastic for english food and staff always made you feel welcome.

Advice: Best place we've been to in turkey, would recommend there to anyone

Activities: Touch of class, buzz bar and british bar were fantastic, jeep safari great!

" Avoid like the plague!! "

Having read mostly good reviews and some bad reviews about this place I booked our holiday to stay at Hotel Atac with Thomas Cook thinking it would be OK.
The hotel is located very close to the beach and many bars and restaurants but that's about all it has going for it.
Our room was less than basic with a tiny bathroom. The tub didn't drain well, the flush on the toilet was unreliable and there was never any hot water available to shower with in the mornings. On a couple of ocassions there was no water in the hot tap full stop!
We asked our rep to have has moved to atleast another room, but he didn't try very hard and nothing happened so for a week we had to put up with living in bad conditions.
AC, safe and fridge was extra. Breakfast offered very little choice. In the 8 days we were there our sheets had never been changed. The towels had only been changed because we asked for them to be done but we were told they only get changed once a week. The room had only one electrical outlet so if you have a kettle, iron, hair straighteners, phone/iPod/camera charger etc, you have to try and prioritise.
Only the night receptionist spoke English. The day receptionist was rude and didn't know how to smile! The staff tried to keep us in the hotel by saying it was unsafe to go out at night because of the gypsies and when we took no notice because it's perfectly safe, they got quite rude.
The best part of our holiday was when we had to be re-located to another hotel. When I dared to complain about the lack of water on the second occassion, the hotel owner came up to our room and was very rude and aggressive, verging on the violent side. Only then did our rep get his supervisor involved and because she experienced the owners attitude first hand when she tried to speak to him, we were moved to another hotel that very night.
Having spent time at some of the local restauarants talking to the waiters it became apparent that no-one had a good word to say about the hotel or it's owner.
I would say steer well clear from this hotel if you want an enjoyable holiday, but if it's a holiday from hell you want, this is the place to be!!

" ATAC-NEVER AGAIN!!! "

It was the most worst hotel I`ve ever been.We went with Thomas Cook Travel Agency but our holiday was provided by Manos Holiday. The hotel description on the website was different than we found in the hotel. You have to be ready for spending at least £30 a week if you would like to use an air condition there is also some charge for using safety box located by the reception desk and fridge for the prices of £10 a week for each of them.Receptionist was very angry when we decide to take just an air condition and after that she never said to us hello. We try to keep out of the hotel because of the owner who was always seating on the pool area spending his time to watching guests, it wasn`t very nice. The rest of the staff were friendly but this was sometimes tiring. We did join one event at the hotel this was a Turkish Night and it was very boring and second thing the food was served as a very small portions. You have to know the rooms had very basic standard, after invitation meeting with our rep William we tried to changed our room or to at least get a Tv and kettle we were ready to paid any charges for it,but he didn`t react. The hotel owner liked to surprised his guests with a preposterous ideas like for example because of people who do not like it to spend they money in his bar/restaurant one day he displayed board in the front of the hotel with ban of bringing any food or drinks from outside to the hotel rooms.Breakfast was the same every day, towels and bed linen been changed once a week.Hotel maid just taken rubbish and made bed.Except our hotel We have spend wonderful holiday. The location is great witch close to shops and bars, and of course to lovely beach. We have been seeing many atractiv places:one of the closest and very interesting is ancient city of Ephesus,we also been to Dalyan visited the turtle beach, and we took mud bath, there are also very amazing ancient tombs made on the side of mount. But this is not all in Altinkum area is many more ancient places to see.Turkey is the great place for spending holiday only if you`re not gonna choose Atac hotel.

" we stayed at the atac in september... "

we stayed at the atac in september 2008.the hotel is in a very good location near to beach and shops bars and reastaraunts. On arrival we were alocated a room by a man who may have been the owner, he did not speak much english and we asked for a quite room but was given one overlooking the bar which could be noise at night. There are two parts to the hotel and two swimming pools. The newer part of the hotel were the apartment block is the quiter of the two. The hotel staff were realy good and Ike the bar manager whould do his upmost to help you if he could. The only downside to the staff were they were under alot of preassure from the owner to make you eat and drink in the hotel. This could get a bit anoying at times even though it was done in a jokey way by ike. when we did stay at the hotel for food and drinks the meals were quite good and the turkish night was realey entertaing. Most of the people at the hotel had been going back year after year and the staff had become thair friends and therfore the atmosphear was very good.I would recomend the hotel but would also say to the owner Mr Atac that he needs to relax and let his daughter and staff who know whats needed to make a good hotel into a even better hotel get on with running the place.

" My husband son and I stayed at the... "

My husband son and I stayed at the Atac 2 years ago and had a great time we could not fault the place thus the reason we returned this year.
Accomodation - apartment side
In my opinion the standard of this hotel has lasped, towels were changed once in 2 weeks, toilet bin was emptied every day except last 2 days we had to empty it our selves. Patio door had no lock which we reported to Mr Atac who said no problem hold me responsible needless to say nothing was done about the security of our apartment.
Being a self catering apartment there was no cooking facilities to speak of (not that I would use them anyway). On arrival the bathroom stunk to high heaven and the stench never left, the bathroom window would not close, the shower tap was dropping to bits it did not leak it constantly ran. The beds were made regular but I could not say for sure if the linen was changed. The cleaners had certainly NOT cleaned the apartment the whole of our 2 weeks stay. Though I heard the hotel side had no problems on this issue.
My husband and I travel a fair bit, problems like these do not usually bother us we just get on and have a good holiday we certainly don't complain.
My reason for writing this review is not the state of the apartment, these are trivual matters and are not really that important to me.What is important is the way in which the British families were being treated not by the staff which we could not fault but by the Hotel owner MR ATAC.
His behaviour was certainly not acceptable toward the British teenage kids, he seems to spend all of his time fault finding, he was constantly shouting at the kids not to dive (ok sign up stating this) but they weren't allowed to jump or play ball or have any type of fun in the pool, balls were confiscated all we heard was PROBLEM PROBLEM. He eventually barred 3 british kids from the pools our son included even though the other kids (turkish) could do what they wanted without any problem. I even heard he barred a child from playing darts. As for the pool table, insidently was falling apart it was so popular in the 1st week with the teens he decided to charge 4 lira per hour, needless to say no on went near.
The 3 families whos kids were problems were told to stay away from each other or he would ask them to leave the hotel. Cutting a long story short the situation was compromised but the Atac family watched over us like hawks. In Mr Atacs defence his daughter said he has had a stressfull year if this is the case he should have stayed at home and not take his frustrations out on the hotel guests. We come on holiday to destress ourselves and relax not to have him watching every move we make.
Thomas Cook rep (Nigel) was informed next day not only by 3 families involved but with other british families who were not happy with his attitude. Nigel spoke with Atac but we got no feed back! He promised to get us a complaint form STILL WAITING!!!
On the whole we had a fabulous time in Altinkum it's a great place, the turkish people are the best, we are returning there next year. I STONGLY advise anyone with teenage kids not to go to this hotel.

" Fantastic time at the Atac Hotel.... "

Fantastic time at the Atac Hotel. Ike and his team were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. First time we have gone on B & B basis, no problems had teenage children who were very satisfied with food and facilities and made great friends with a family we met at the Hotel.

The Atac benefits from having 2 swimming pools, and we spent most of our time in the pool by the main bar which benefited by some shade especially being 40 degrees plus everyday. We had several meals at the Hotel which we found price wise was no dearer than any other restaurants in the vacinity. We had our daughters birthday evening meal at the hotel followed by a huge chocolate cake from Ike. she will remember that one for many years and have the photographs to prove it. We found Altinkum Restaurent very friendly with Ulmit and the guys making our evenings very pleasurable, although the Linekars and The British Bars opposite which played loud music or kareoke most evenings which sometimes was a bit distracting.

Ephesus was worth going to but you did feel like a sheep being hurded around for a couple of hours. Make sure you where a hat and suncream and have plenty of water. ITS HOT!! in August. It would be best seen in low season with fewer people around so you have more time to look around.

We did a Jeep Safari, make sure you take plenty of water for chucking at the other jeeps who you meet up with - it was just a mass water fight all the time. Had a great lunch in this taverna by the sea in the middle of nowhere - great value for money. Health and Safety was a bit sparce on this trip though with the back of the jeep opening going up a hill, and the driver taking a detour up a hill which we nearly tipped over, the children thought it was fun and a good talking point when we got back to the hotel.

Overall we loved Altinkum, and enjoyed the area we stayed in which was near the 2nd beach which was quieter than Dolphin Square (that was a bit to noisy for us)

Will we go back? Without a doubt, much more to see and explorer.

" Arrived around half 2-3 o'clock in... "

Arrived around half 2-3 o'clock in the morning and was met with a lovely welcome from Mr Atac and his staff. They even opened the bar and got us a drink to our room.
Hotel was extremly clean, the cleaners went into the room everyday and cleaned.
Both pools and surroundings were clean and well looked after.
All the staff were great they could not do enough.
Ike the bars manager was great.
While staying there Mr Atac went away and his daughter came she was lovely. We had problems with our transfers and she was extremly helpful and allowed us to use her computer.
Turkish night is well worth a try food was good entertainment was good and Ike even picked up some of my family who were staying in another part right up in Didim and took them back free of charge.
Compairing every restaurant that we went to in Altinkum the hotel was the cheapest and the same quality, the only problem was they do not have a childs menu but will accomadate for this.
We highly recccomend you try the First Choice restaurant down by the side of the spice.
The food is excellent and the staff are fantastic.
Also the food at A Touch of Class, Altinkum Restaurant and the Grand Restaurant are well woth a try too.

" My friend Paula and I stayed for 2... "

My friend Paula and I stayed for 2 wks b & b at the Atac Hotel. We arrived in the early hours of the morning due to a problem with Thomas Cook's plane. The room we were given was on the 1st floor above the dining room, it was very small and the balcony was tiny (standing room only). We went straight to reception and asked to be moved, Mr Atac and the receptionist were on the desk and after talking between themselves in Turkish Mr Atac showed us another room on the 3rd floor, this was much larger with a reasonable sized balcony which we were happy with. The rooms are very basic but the cleaners do a wonderful job keeping them clean and changing beds and towels. All the cleaners are happy, cheerful and talk to you every time they see you, well worth the tip we left.
Ike is very friendly and really tries hard to get you to eat and drink etc at the hotel which we did but when you are on holiday you want to go out as well and get to know the area and eat/drink at other places, which the Atac doesn't like! The bar staff and waiters are very friendly and work very hard and incredibly long hours to make sure you have a good time.
There were occasions when Mr Atac stayed around the bar area for most of the day and night, the atmosphere was not nice, with the staff very subdued, barely speaking to anyone. This was noticed by many of us staying there at the same time and it spoilt it.

The pools are a good size (deep) and kept clean. The sandy beach is lovely and you can walk a long way out in the sea and it is so close to the hotel, although packed we spent a lot of our time there. Day trip to Dalyan (mud baths) long coach trip but a very enjoyable day, book with Darius Travel we had a great tour guide. So many places to eat and drink and walking into Dolphin Square at night is very lively. Yes you do get asked continually everywhere you go to come and eat and drink in their restaurant etc, be friendly but firm and it's not a problem and being females on our own they can be very persuasive, don't forget it was someone else last wk and someone else when you have gone home so don't believe all they say!! The waiters are forced to put on an act to persuade you in but having met some outside of work on the beach they are very different people. Crystal restaurant, food and service excellent! and restaurant by car park on way to beach is really good. C J's cocktail bar is great, staff very friendly and good fun. There are too many places to chose from in the two wks we had. A Turkish bath and full body oil massage is not to be missed, you are pampered and really spoilt, so gd I had two! book with Thomas Cook and not the one round the corner. We had a great time in Altinkum and met a lot of really nice people British and Turkish. It is a very happy friendly place and I would love to go back, but would have a self catering apt next time.
A word of advice Mr Atac, you have a great team of people, all happy, friendly and working very hard to keep us holiday makers happy, trust them to do the jobs they
all do so well when you are not around and people will want to keep coming back but treat them like you did when we were there and people will not want to return!!
Thank you to everyone who made our holiday such a fun and enjoyable time!
Not impressed with Thomas Cook, no plane going out or coming back and the rep was sent home soon after we arrived, this meant we spent most of the two weeks without a rep!!

" On arrival we met with a very... "

On arrival we met with a very smiling manager, Ike such a happy chap. Our bags were taken to our rooms, all very pleasant.
On booking in we had to pay £25.00 for airconditioning per week, per room (2) which we understood was £20.00
£10 for safe deposit box per week.
We found the rooms very basic but very clean.
Food in the hotel very expensive .
Drinks cola, sprite fanta small glasses 300 ytl (£1.50).
Small Efes 300ytl.
Well from the next morning at breakfast ,we went through a grilling from Ike.
Would we like to come to the bingo night and would be eating in the hotel tonight.
This was as we were eating breakfast, this went on while we sat at the poolside.
Everyday we were asked the same thing it got very unsettling. We didnt know how to avoid this. We agreed to go to the Turkish night BBQ this went on for hours the food was delivered at large intervals. Starter a cold buffet, then main course Chips and rice then a wait, a lamb chop, then another wait, a peice of chicken then another wait, a very badly organised function. The owner Mr Atac was on site all day and all night, there was a very strange atmostphere in the place. with his staff while he was about , We did see his temper with the English children as they played in the pool which was quite surprising, As when the Turkish families played ,they did make as much and even more noise then the English children but were not challenged in the same aggresive way. This happened on a day to day basis. He seamed to be very controlling. This did put most of the people on edge several families went to the beach to avoid the problems. He didnt want any playing in the pools unless you were Turkish. To make matters worse, the pool and hotel facilities were available to people other than the guests so there were Turkish families using the pool, playing in the same manner as our children, ie. jumping in, splashing etc. but they remained unchallenged. As a paying guest this annoyed me

Mr Atac had other issues with guests, the amount of money they spent in the day and evening. He used his staff to approach families and make comments, like Mr Atac checks all the rooms bills and has asked why you are not eating here. I can say that my family did eat and drink at lunch time in the hotel but were still asked the same questions as others. IKE WAS UNDER SO MUST PRESSURE TO SELL AND INTIMIDATE. He did work very hard and was as pleasant as he could be given the pressure he was under . The staff were very friendly and did their best. If you could remove Mr Atac I would stay at the Atac Hotel again I must say my family did have a great holiday in Altinkum and would return. BUT WOULD NEVER STAY AT THE ATAC and I would advise in the strongest possible terms that if you have children, younger or teenage, this is NOT the hotel for you.
