Westin Europa & Regina Hotel

i was dreading staying here because i had heard all of the negative postings. We stayed here for 3 nights (2 rooms, party of 5) in early august. the hotel was beautiful and clean, very elegant. Overall, the concierge was decent, but it all depended on whom was working. there was one who could'nt get anything right. didn't know a thing so we learned quite quickly not to rely on his information (which always proved wrong). there is no need to ever take a water taxi as this hotel is very near a traghetti (sp?) stop, these "busboats" cost... more

We had a stay at the Westin Eurpoa in June. My first trip out of the country ever. The hotel was lovely, even though I had low expectations. The staff was not very friendly though. The view from the breakfast terrace was fabulous, same for the bar/lounge. Our room was very nice, but the a/c was a problem for us. It really was not up to par for the summer heat in June. Understandingly, it is June and the building is very very old! We did enjoy our time there, and the city is not too be missed. So much history!!! I would love to go back... more

Well, all I can say is thank goodness my partner and I stayed at the Monaco & Grand Canal Hotel - everything about the hotel was excellent (even the service which often leaves a little to be desired in Italian hotels). Our unfortunate choice was choosing this hotel for dinner on our final evening! My partner has several allergies (inc. oil) - all of which were catered for above the call of duty in all the other restaurants we visited. We (me & two friends) were there in March 2004. The location is excellent, the rooms were very comfortable and well-appointed. Parts of the hotel were a little run-down, but what isn't in Venice (part of the venetian charm). Maid staff was always helpful & friendly, but the desk help was the rudest we encountered throughout our 2 weeks in various parts of Italy. My husband and I stayed at the Europe and Regina between May 12-14 while touring Northern Italy for our honeymoon. We booked our hotel on points (we are Platinum Starwood members). Concierge was very cordial and service was excellent. Because of our status, they put us in the best suite in the hotel, with a huge balcony overlooking the Grand Canal and the Santa Maria della Salute Church. We just returned from a trip through Venice and north into Veneto and Lombardy areas.I chose the Westin at a deluxe room for $535.00 U.S. An outrageous sum, but since it was my 40th, we were going to splurge.All the previous reviews are right-on. Pretty, lovely. Rooms are slowly being renovated, ours was large and spacious. The check-in as well as the concierge were ridiculous. They are rude and surly. It was too much trouble for front staff person to take our room key, he scowled and immediately handed it to an occupied concierge.... more

We arrived having just spent 7 fabulous nights at the Grand Hotel Florence, so comparisons were always going to be tough for the 6 nights at the Europa. However, to alight from the water taxi in the pouring rain and then have to carry our own (and heavy) luggage into the lobby was just not the start we expected. Even after such an inauspicious start, the concierge at check in was unapologetic and offhand, although efficient. We stayed here in February 2004. I'm sure this hotel was wonderful back in the day. Now it is rundown and not ANYTHING like the photos online or in brochures. The rooms are basic. The bathrooms, while very clean, are extremely small. The views were great - right on the canal - absolutely amazing! However, I would have to say that we would definately choose another place to stay next time around.

We went to Venice over Christmas 2003 on short notice, so we didn't have a lot of time research hotels. I found this site most useful as a sanity check. We stayed at the Georgione for a couple nights, but then they were full so we needed another place to stay. I had Westin points, so used them to make the reservation here, but then read all the bad reviews. Got really nervous, but since we were going to be in Venice a couple days before checking into the Westin, we decided to check it out when we got into town. We were greated very nicely... more

Based on the previous reviews, I was a bit nervous about going to this hotel. Even though I could have stayed elsewhere, I was using Starwood points and the Europa Regina was the only one available on San Marco. But luckily, my hotel experience was much better than what is written below. The woman at check-in was very nice and accommodating. Based on my status, I was given an upgraded room. It was roomy, immaculately clean, and the décor was in good shape (unlike what was described in previous reviews). My only complaint with my room... more
