I had the most wonderful time at the Azka Hotel. The scenery is breathtaking and the hotel grounds are kept to perfect standards. So much thought has gone into how the gardens are kept. Cascades of bright flowers perfectly frame the stairs and the petals delicately fall... more

Excellent or Good, I don’t know, But the hotel is located uphill Very nicely located, not far from the center, about 1,5 Km and ten minutes on foot. This hotel is very accessible by many means of transport, at the entrance; you have taxis, which cost around 10 to 12... more

Just got back from two weeks at this hotel. It is situated in an ideal location in a quiet bay just 15 minutes walk either way to Gumbet or Bodrum, or there was a water taxi every 10 minutes across to the marina in Bodrum, which ran till about 11pm. The hotel was very... more

We stayed at the Azka at the back end of April 2006 and I must admit that we were slightly disappointed with our 5* hotel (should be classed as a 4* for its amenities/pool/reception and a 3.5* for the rooms). When we checked in the hotel manager said he had given us a free... more

An OK Hotel
Having stayed at this hotel for 1 week in June 2007 on a half board basis i would think a fair review is it is better than average for Turkey. The rooms are basic but clean, air conditioned and we had a superb view. The hotel is made up of 2 hotels that have been joined by a walk bridge but it works ok.We stayed in the add on bit. The food is OK if you understand you are in Turkey, not Blackpool so dont expect chips with everything but you will get a good range of options. It is within walking distance of Gumbet (15 mins) and Bodrum 25(mins) or a few minutes on the efficient little buses. The very annoying side of this Hotel and many now in Turkey is the prices they are charging for drinks including water. They really do search you and your room looking for water or food purchased outside the hotel and they WILL take it away.I found this very unfair as water is almost 5 times the price inside the hotel,a tin of coke is £2.00 and a small Glass of beer was more expensive than the price of a pint over here. All in all a pleasant stay and good standards in general but let down by this silly ruling of bringing in food and drink, nobody expects a hotel to sell its product at cost but neither do you expect to be charged stupidly high prices.
Mixed Reviews
The Azka has had some mixed reviews but having just returned from a really enjoyable weeks HB stay I think most of the critical comments I read beforehand were unfair. This is a good hotel in a magnificent position. For sure it is not UK 5 star but I have paid this price for a one-night 5 star room-only in England - so be realistic. Also you are unlikely to have the best rooms if you book a cheap package so my advice is to book the hotel separately and specify a front line sea view. For evening entertainment, cheaper drinks, and lively outdoor bars pop next door to the Charm Hotel or take a cab into Bodrum town.
pleasant stay
Hotel and staff good . Friendly and pleasant staff, Shame about expensive price for water and soft drinks. I think management need to change there policy and not charge high rates especially for water. Yes i would stay there again and yesi would be sneaky to take water and other needs into hotel
ok aZKA
I stayed at the Azka for a week at the end of September. Its OK but not worth its five stars by western standards. I read a few of the comments on here and was wary of bringing food in from outside but managed to do so. Use your initiative (I used a rucksack!). And I took the evidence out each morning so as not to raise suspicions. The biggest downside to the hotel is its location at the bottom of a very steep up which you ascend only to go back down again into Bodrum. I would stay there again, but only after exploring other hotels in the town itself.
Prison Camp Azka
we arrived at 5am in the morning after our transfer did not turn up at the airport. We were shown to a room with 2 single beds. (we booked a double) The room was so small that it was difficult to even walk into. We immediately said that we could not accept thei room, and were asked to pay an extra £140 to get a room that was big enough to enter. We refused to pay and were eventually shown to an accepatble room, still very small for a 5 star! . Th e first room was later nicknamed the dog kennel, which numerous other guests were shown to until someone eventually accepted it! A young German couple were in tears a few days later when given the same treatment. We told them to hold out and demand a proper room, this eventually happened. It seems that there is a "try it on " policy at the Azka re room allocation. A few days later we were walking back to the hotel from nearby Bodrum with the remains of a litre bottle of water in our hands, we were stopped and searched by the Azka staff and told to hand over the couple of inches of water left in a ;itre bottle, management were called and we were informed that if we tokk our few drops of water to our room that it would be chareged to our bill at Azka prices.After11/2 hours of fierce debate and arguement we gave up and handed over the tiny amount of water. We told them that nowhere in the world would take water off a customer, but they were adamnant that it was "normal" in Turkey. We found out that it was in fact not normal and something peculiar to the Azka. The food was mediocre the staff were dull and lifeless, but the best thing that happened was the wter incident which made us so angry that we swore not to spend any money at the Azka so we found the hotel next door called the "Charm" which sold us drink and food ( and gave us water) for very reasonable costs and excellent service with fantastic staff. If you end up at the Azka try the Charm for drinks lunch and dinner, you will soon become firm friends with the staff and start to enjoy your holiday.. THE STAFF AT THE CHARM WERE FANTASTIC AND REALLY MADE OUR HOLIDAY, ALL HAVING A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOUR AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. THERE IS A FEELING OF REPRESION AT THE AZKA, THE STAFF ARE UNMOTIVATED AND ALTHOUGH THERE WERE SOME NICE PEOPLE, NONE WERE MEMORABLE LIKE THE CHARACTERS NEXT DOOR. WE HAD A GREAT DEAL OF PROBLEM WITH THE STEPS OUT OF THE AZKA......AT NIGHT TIME ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF ON STEEP SLOPES AND STAIRS MAKING ESCAPE VERY DIFFICULT. THERE WERE MANY PIECES OF MARBLE, DOOR THRESHOLDS, BROKEN PAVING AND DISGISED RIDGES TO FALL OVER, WHICH INEVITABLY WE DID. FOR CHILDREN AND OLDER PEOPLE THE TERRAIN WOULD BE A NIGHTMARE. ROOM....BASIC STAFF.......OK FOOD......MEDIOCRE POSITION.....VERY GOOD VIEWS....LOVELY THERE ARE CHARGES FOR THE ADVERTISED INDOOR POOL, JACUZI, GYM,ETC so beware!!!!!!
Staff very Friendly
We picked this hotel from the reviews already written, although they were a bit mixed, with most giving it at least "above average" and one giving "terrible". We were not disappointed. Everything was of a high standard including the food, service, facilities, gardens, pools, gym, cleanliness and bars. I had read about the no food and drink allowed in the hotel from outside rule, but this seems to be the norm in all of the local hotels and we found that as long as you didn't leave food or drink about then there was no problem taking it into your room. We didn't find the price of the snacks or drink any more expensive than other hotels in the area. Our only negative comment is that the bathrooms need up dating. Anyone wanting a relaxing holiday with good friendly service then I highly recommend this hotel.
dismal
The Azka is a 3 star hotel not a 5 star which is stated, The rooms are drab and in need of a big face lift. When we stayed there they did not change the sheets or pillow cases for one week which is just not done. They will conficate any bottles of water you bring into the hotel at the security box at the entrance to the hotel, as they want you to buy there very overpriced drinks at the bar. There is no entertainment in the hotel and the staff really do need cheering up, the foods not great ether. The view from the hotel is all it has going for it.
Lovely stay at Hotel Azka
Arrived at the Hotel Azka at 2.00am in the morning. First impressions of the hotel were good. However when the guy behind reception showed us to our room we had to take 2 lifts to get there and about three flights of stairs which we weren't very happy about. We were given a room outside of the main hotel building so we asked to change rooms the very next day which they did straight away. The room was lovely very clean and quite spacious with a view to die for, right overlooking the sea and close to the beach it was lovely just waking up every morning, sun shining and seeing that great view. We went half board both the breakfast and evening meals were lovely plenty of different choices from the buffet. We did eat out on some occasions in Bodrum close to the Marina, if you do eat out I would recommend La Jolla Bistro which is an American Bar and Bistro the food was lovely and also the Hong Kong chinese restaurant. At the hotel location was a water taxi at the end of the beach that takes you into Bodrum every 5 minutes it's a novel way to get to the town centre other than road taxi! The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. Make sure that you also visit the castle very impressive and fantastic views from the top! all in all a very pleasant stay at Hotel Azka and would definitely go back again.
Could Do Better
Beautiful setting, lovely bay with beautiful bathing from private beach, but hotel let down by cost-cutting and price-hiking. It definitely is not 5 star. I would give it 3 or 4 at the most. Let down by almost concentration camp approach to drinks bought outside with threatening notices on the gates and in the rooms. Indeed taxis are not allowed to enter grounds and you have to carry cases 50 metres to and from reception since security guards are required to monitor incoming guests and their belongings, confiscating any illicit drink. The policy is understandable in view of the VERY high prices charged even for water within hotel. And does one feel really any safer when security guards patrol the grounds visibly armed with handcuffs and truncheons? Finally - and Azka is probably not unique - the constant deafening noise from the loudspeakers. This is definitely not the place for a quiet read. David and Nevsal Hughes, London, UK
Nice Hotel but in need of some renovation
We stayed at the Azka at the back end of April 2006 and i must admit that we were slightly dissappointed with our 5* hotel (should be classed as a 4* for its amenities/pool/reception and a 3.5* for the rooms). When we checked in the hotel manager said he had given us a free upgrade to sea view which we thought was a nice touch. When we got to the room we found it adequate and very clean. Our party consisted of 3 adults and the 3rd bed was a "camp bed" which had seen better days so we asked if a 3rd proper they did so whithout any fuss. Breakfasts at the hotel are the usual Turkish standard and plentiful but i would say that the Evening Buffet is overpriced and you can get better food at cheaper prices in Bodrum and Gumbet. We did try to take in bottled water into the hotel one day and the security guard did take them off us so a bit of advise would be to hide the bootles in beach bags or cool bags. Also the hotel is situated at the bottom of a steep hill so if you have walking difficulties you may find it abit troubling but taxis are cheap enough at about £2 for a single trip to Gumbet/Bodrum. In summing up i would say that the Azka Hotel is a pleasant hotel to stay at but it does need some renovations to the rooms to bring it in line with proper 5* hotels
