pleasant 3 night stay at San Giorgio
We booked a room for 3 nights at Hotel San Giorgio, and had a pleasant stay. Just a warning to those booking through the train station's hotel reservations booth (the one that charges a fee, VeneziaSi), they took advantage of us. After making a reservation at San Giorgio and taking our deposit + a fee, we arrived at the hotel to find the woman called before our arrival to cancel the reservation. Maybe it's a racket for VeneziaSi Reservations to get more fees from unsuspecting tourists. Just a tip, if possible it is better to book... more
great little hotel in great location
An eight minute charming walk from St.Marks Square, tucked away at the end of a side street just around the corner from Rialtor Bridge. Friendly helpful staff. Small rooms and bathroom, (but this seems to be the norn in Venice,) spotlessly clean. Good breakfast. Would stay here again.
Charming host makes the San Giorgio a gem
From the first moment of our arrival for our 8-day stay at the San Giorgio we were treated to first-class service. It is obvious that Valerio loves people. Nothing was a problem. Between coping with a small flood due to the "aqua alta" while still cooking omelettes and scrambled eggs for breakfast one morning and making restaurant reservations at any time, Valerio is the epitome of hospitality. The hotel itself is lovely, too. Comfortable beds, lots of hot water with great pressure, pretty decor, and an inroom safe and bar fridge make... more
Unforgettable week end
We spent a wonderful long week end in Venice and we recommend HOTEL SAN GIORGIO to everybody!!! It's in a central position, a few minutes far from the main attractions (San Marco, Rialto, The Academy) even thought at the beggining it has been a bit difficult finding it. Valerio and all the staff are very friendly and helpful people and the "mascotte" of the hotel is a marvellous big fat black and whit cat! Rooms are very nice, small but clean and quiet. The only problem may be the shower box, very narrow. Breakfast is... more
Good service - cramped conditions
We stayed for two nights in October to complete our honeymoon. Valerio was very pleasant and provided us with a bottle of proseco to celebrate. The room itself was incredibly small, other reviewers have not shared that opinion so maybe it is just room 28! The shower leaked and the air conditioning was not working due to it being winter! (although it was still very warm) this meant that we had to leave the window open and were eaten alive by mosquitoes. Valerio was very understanding and provided us with a fan to alleviate the... more
2 star hotel with 5 star service
We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in the end of May 2004, we had booked the room 2 months in advanced using recommendations from this site. 1 week before the trip we asked to add another night and Valerio (the Manager) said they were booked but he would find us something. We arrived to the San Giorgio and Valerio walked us down and carried our bags to the other hotel (Gamili) which he convinced the manager to give us a deal. The next morning Valerio was there to pick us up and take us back to the San Giorgio. The hotel is located only... more
Authentic Venetian Experience
This was a very pleasant experience. The young man who runs the hotel is warm, friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed his restaurant recommendations. The small hotel is at the end of a cobblestone street. Our room was decorated in a traditonal venetian style with a double window opening to a view of the little street. The breakfast was good and included meats and cheese. We would definately stay there again. Try it, you'll like it!
Wonderfully Accommodating
Just returned from a 2-night stay at the San Giorgio Hotel in Venice. There was an error in my booking -- whether due to the on-line reservation service or the hotel itself, we do not know. San Giorgio had me down for two nights and not the three nights that I had booked. Since they were completely full that first night, the owner/manager, Valerio, called around to find other accommodations for me. Not only did he switch me to the Hotel Gallini for one night, but he personally carried my suitcases over there himself. In the morning, while I... more
Great Hideaway!!
I stayed at Hotel San Giorgio for 4 nights with my girlfriend during the Summer of '03. The hotel is not the Taj Majal, but for the price it was a great bargain. The room was small but very clean and tastefully decorated. It is fairly close to the main sights but far enough away to be quiet at night. The breakfast was diverse enough for me for me to be happy. The manager, Valero, was very helpful helping us find our destinations and made a suggestion to hear a chamber orchestra/opera event which was very lovely. He always greeted us... more
So comfortable-Central-Quiet
We spent three nights at Hotel San Giorgio and were completetly satisfied with everything. The room was decorated with a beautiful chandellier and wall sconces. There were three of us in our room. The room was roomy although not spacious, but larger than most rooms we have found in Venice. The hotel is a budget priced hotel in a quiet, yet cenral, location. Valerio, the owner, really cares about his hotel and is in the constant process of upgrading with new wall coverings and beds...although these improvements enhance the rooms they are not... more
