Great Location and a great price. If you’re looking to do Venice at a reasonable cost, yet still be close to all the action then this is the hotel for you. I'd read a number of reviews of this hotel and had a fair amount of confidence in it. The train pulled into the... more

Great place to stay!
We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Plaza. The location was great - it only takes 5 minutes to get to Venice by train and the station is right across the street - and you didn't have to pay the outrageous prices of the Venice hotels. The rooms were a good size, and the hotel was clean. Also, the breakfasts were good. Definitely a great location for the price.
Fantastic
Plaza hotel is really fantastic. It is located right opposite of the Mestre train station, where you can take the train to Venice Central Station (Canal Grande – vaporetto stop Ferrovia). Train ticket costs 1 € one way and there is a train every 5-10 minutes. The journey takes 10 minutes and the view from train’s windows is incredible as the train passes over the bridges to reach Venice. We arrive on hotel at 10:00 a.m. and they check-in us immediately! We left our car in their guarded parking and we pay less than 10 € per night! Our room was very clean and spacious, with A/C, TV, mini bar, stationery and safe-deposit. Every night there was chocolates on our pillows!!! Breakfast was very rich and delicious so probably you don’t need lunch. Overall this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed, in a reasonable price and it’s highly recommended for everybody.
Ideally situated
Ideally situated opposite the train station in Mestre. 1 euro and an 8 min train journey to Venice. Every train goes to Venice and every train stops at Mestre, at 5-10 min intervals. Excellent first class hotel, all staff friendly, offered room early, on arrival. Room newly decorated, very clean, bedding & towels changed daily. Stayed 6 nights. One word of warning, if booking from internet hotel sites and booking includes breakfast, make sure you have written proof, they do run a check. After providing proof to reception staff on arrival, we were told on two more occasions that our breakfast was not included. This was only a minor hiccup because we had proof and it did not spoil our stay at the hotel, the staff were apologetic after inclusive breakfast was confirmed. Air conditioning only kicks in above 23 degrees, but if the temperature is below this, then the open windows are sufficient. We'd definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to all, it was perfect for visiting Venice.
Helpful & pleasant
First time in Venice this March - by way of an overnight train in from Nice, France. We arrived at the train station early in the AM & blearily looked around. Low & behold! There was our hotel right across the street! And even though it was only 8am, they checked us right in. Helpful front desk & yummy breakfast. They didn't even laugh too hard when we couldn't figure out how to open the windows (the AC is turned off till May, but the window got a nice breeze going - once we got the shade drawn). Expensive mini-bar, but then everything in Italy was expensive. Fun trip, nice experience.
Great Stay
We had a car and finding the Hotel Plaza in Mestre was easy. There is a 24 hour parking lot next door and it only cost us 10 euros for 2 days - you can go in and out at no extra charge (they determine your daily rate by the size of your vehicle - we had a Fiat Punto, so it was cheap!). Our stay was from March 14-16. We had a great rate, so breakfast was not included (we didn't mind). The room was spacious and clean, although a little of the wallpaper was coming off. The free shoe shine by the elevator was a plus, because walking around in Italy is not like walking around in the US, your shoes tend to get dusty! The best part was that it was across the street from the train station and it only cost 1 euro each way and only about 5 minutes to get to Venice. On our first train ride into Venice, we even rode in the same train car with actress Christine Baranski and her daughter! The only downside was that the hotel room walls were pretty thin, so when you're in the bathroom and someone on the floor above you is taking a shower, it sounds like it's raining! Otherwise, a great hotel and would recommend to anyone visiting Venice.
Not next to the right station!!!
The Plaza Hotel in Venice was fine. The room was acceptable and the service was very good, however, it is about 30 minutes away from Venice by train. It is at the stop before Venice which is very important if you are only staying for a few days. It is a euro each way and next time I would definately stay at a place in Venice.
Perfect location
This hotel is in the perfect location. It is directly across the street from the entrance to the station, where you can purchase a 1 euro train ticket to venice (which takes around 8 minutes, and trains come very regularly - every 5-10 mins). This means you don't have to pay the over the top prices for hotels in venice itself, but still be able to get there in 10 mins or so. We had a couple of problems when arriving - first we asked for non smoking room, (booked on hotels.com) and were given a room stinking of smoke - however I think the clerk was just trying to give us a better room than we had booked - since the stinky room was a "superior" room - we had booked standard. I asked to be moved to a non smoking room, and we were - unfortunately to a standard room as we had paid for... The view wasnt that great, but we were only going to sleep there anyway. There were a few problems with the room too - the heat/ac didnt seem to work, but we never bothered to ask the clerk about it. The door handle for the bathroom also kept falling off. There were also no tea/coffee facilities in theroom, or an ice maker in the corridor. The breakfast made up for all of the above though, an excellent buffet breakfast - as much as you can eat & drink, and the best thing was that hotels.com said that breakfast wasn't included, but it seems hotel plaza gives breakfast with every booking anyway! So - room problems probably would have been fixed if we had bothered to ask - location excellent - breakfast excellent - room comfortable. One warning - don't expect any help/customer service from the bus station when you're trying to get back from the hotel to the airport, they don't want to help you at all - just talk at you in italian and wave their hands around angrily. Also - if you're going to hire a car to go somewhere other than venice, go to Europcar, which is inside the entrance to Hotel Triton (I think) when you go left out of the Hotel Plaza entrance. They were the only car hire company who spoke good english AND had cars available for us AND allowed drivers from 21 years upwards AND didn't overcharge :)
Very Good Deal
I stayed at Hotel Plaza Feb. 11th through 15th and enjoyed my stay very much. We were given a smoking room at first (we'd requested non-smoking), but the staff members were very helpful and friendly and moved us to a non-smoking room without any problem. We had a nice king-size bed, and the room was spacious and clean. The wallpaper needed replacing-- it was torn and peeling in some areas, but other than that the room was in good condition. We never quite figured out the heating/cooling system, though. The complimentary breakfast was excellent-- an assortment of breads, croissants, fruit, yogurt and even eggs and sausage. The hotel's location is perfect--directly opposite the train station, from which you can get to Venice inexpensively in only a few minutes. The view from the train window is lovely as well, as you cross the bridge and look out over the sea. Overall, a very nice hotel. We even got chocolate mints on our pillows!
Great location and value for money.
We stayed here for two nights in November and paid GBP56 over the internet(hotels website) per room per night. The hotel is situated right opposite the station with short rides by bus or train (1 euro/one way) to Venice's train station Santa Lucia (Vaporetti stop: Ferrovia) and the main bus station at Piazzale Roma (Vaporetti stop: Piazzale Roma) where Tourist offices can be found. The price also includes an excellent buffet breakfast, a great way to start the day! Remember to order your capuccinos and expressos from the waiter. If you eat well, you can certainly skip your lunch! Overall, the hotel is excellent for money!
Fantastic for exploring Venice
This hotel had everything we were looking for. We parked our car for 10e a day and never needed it until we left. The hotel is a nice combination of old and new with an incredibily warm staff. Rooms were large and nice, bathrooms especially nice and a/c was great. Since it was very hot we appreciated the a/c. Beds were a little hard but we all slept very well. There was an included buffet breakfast making this hotel and even greater deal. There was nothing to do in Mestre (a suburb of Venice) but the large train station is directly across the street. It's a 6-10 minute ride to the Grand Canal. I thought this hotel provided the best opportunity for exploring Venice and we will return time and again.
