My family & I (party of 14) went to...

Jun 2006, Mr Paul Howdel

My family & I (party of 14) went to the hotel Bali, the rooms were basic but we expected that as it is a 3 star hotel. The food was also basic but we were able to make a meal from it. The entertainment was very good I would recommend this for families with children. There are two sides both containing 2 pools a big pool and a children’s pool.
There was one problem the hill that the hotel is located on.
Over all the holiday was very good we really enjoyed our stay and will hopefully be going back soon.

For anyone thinking of going to the Bali don't have any worries its a top place to go. It might only be a 3 star hotel but dont be fooled, the food is excellent and service is very good.
I have booked to go back in August 2006 and am looking forward to returning. Apts are clean, a little dated maybe but not to be faulted. The hotel is well situated and the staff do everything to get you involved in activities.

All in all a very nice place to go.

Mar 2006, Mrs S Hall

Hotel Bali was very clean but the food was all the same every day.
The hill isn’t too bad when you have done it a couple of times a day. We were on the top floor and at the side of the hotel it’s like going down a long tunnel when we were going to our room but we didn’t get lots of noise at all. The staff were quite good .Room over looked the sea. Great views.

The bar on the harbour in Benalmadena with the loud music will rip you off with your drinks bill, you are only paying for the music .Families be aware when going to this bar. Its great to go out on the bus to all the other towns But be very, very careful when crossing the road the car drivers don’t stop for any one not even the police. We have had a few misses crossing the road, Be care full when grossing at the main road go under the underground if you have a family.
After all that we had a great holiday weather was great and we will go back in 2006 when we can afford it. Hope you all have a safe holiday in Costa del Sol. Age 47/& 51

Aug 2005, Mrs R.E McGuinness

It was a good hotel, with good facilitys. The food was enjoyable and the rooms clean. It was a bit of a trek to the beach, not so bad on the way down but coming home there were a lot of steps up from the beach and then the hill to contend with. Not very good if you have mobility problems, they called it cardiac hill. Overall We enjoyed our stay, there were 14 of us including 2 babies and 2 children.

Good clean hotel, excellent for families with children. Also good for couples. No scramble for sun beds! Food very good and varied.
Situated on a hill but did not bother us. Surrounded by bars and restaurants. Never heard one complaint whilst we were there for the fortnight. Would go back.

Apr 2005, Mr SJ Penman

Just back from a Spring break at the Bali and our 1st trip to Benalmadena.
I agree that the hotel should really be a 2 star rating as the rooms are a throwback from the 70's and need upgrading. The air-conditioning didn’t work as apparently its used in May-Sept even though we experienced temperatures of between 25-29 degrees last week!
On the other hand- the hotel is very clean, maids cleaned our room daily and the staff are very very friendly.
During our trip, the hotel was 95% occupied by the 50+ age group so was still very quiet and no fights for the sunbeds!! We (35 & 29) travelled at the same time as my parents who are in that age group.
Hotel food was bland - choice of 3 or 4 main courses & they had different "themed" menus - however, it rarely tasted as it sounded but again, it was fresh & hot. Lack of choice on the salad front as well which is strange for a Spanish hotel.
Breakfast was the usual fried choice and a lovely continental choice - they could however have used some of the meats etc for the salad bar at night to give a better choice.
We only ate in the restaurant once and had some fantastic meals at Bonanza Square, which is out the hotel, turn left, left at top of hill and you see it on he left some way up. Excellent Chinese in the square as well as an Italian and El Carmen. All those restaurants had fantastic food, excellent service & a reasonable price list.
Having been a "veteran" of Palma Nova / Magalluf for many years, it was clear Benalmadena pubs cater for a more mature audience and very few had any kind of music- except 24hr Square & pubs at the Marina. On the other hand, you have plenty to choose from and I can recommend a small pub near Bonanza square called Coma de Panena - excellent Spanish welcome with tapas thrown in!! Say hi to Juan when you see him!
Finally, yes there is a big hill outside! Watch out at the bottom for the timeshare mob who loiter there - normally the morning after a busload have arrived!!! Simply refuse their "scratch cards" and walkaway.
Would we go back? For a quiet break - yes, for a fun-filled holiday-no - but it was early season. For a relaxing time, you couldn’t do any better and there are plenty of eateries and hostelries to keep you going!

Aug 2004, duskey

I would only rate this hotel as a two star and not a three as stated!! Hotel rooms were clean but very basic and need of updating. Maid service was good and the maids work very hard but rooms definitely need updating.
Our slide window leading to the balcony did not shut properly and the air conditioning was on the blink, but I must say that you could not fault the food and there was plenty of choice. You can also see the chefs cooking which is how I like it. We just went for a cheap last minute week away but its a good hotel for families with 2 pools on complex.
Would not recommend for couples without kids and you need to be fit for the "cardiac hill" which leads to the beach. Ours was a second holiday but must admit I would not choose the Bali as a main holiday for two weeks.

No complaints of the hotel and it’s facilities, but never having been to the resort before I would not advise anyone with walking difficulties to go to this resort unless they have a beachside hotel. Both my husband and I had a most enjoyable and relaxing week.
Thank you Thomson for putting us there and thank you staff at the Bali Hotel for all the comforts.

I am not a fan of package holidays....
7 / 10
Jun 2004, Mr D Hutchison

I am not a fan of package holidays. Only my 3rd in 31 years and can see why. When travelling basically you are like cattle being herded. That aside comments on the Bali.
There were 2 of us and the company was great. Just as well. Found the hotel to be very large. Fortunately the self-catering apartments (we were on the 6 floor of the SC block) are far enough away from the bar area. The bar had entertainment aimed at kids (early on) and others later. We did not use it as the noise was deafening at times. Not the place for a quiet drink. There were however a couple of quite areas where no kids were allowed.
Self-catering apartment was sufficient and had air conditioning, a television (3 English speaking channels out of 13). Basic cooking facilities with only a 2-ring hob, coffee maker (take own filter papers 4 cup size), toaster, and a fridge. (Take own travel kettle, its handy). Why they do not install a microwave and microwaveable cookware I do not know!!!.
Was there for a week Sun to Sun. Bedding/towels changed Wednesday. Bed uncomfortable, could feel the springs, and was 2 singles pushed together. The mattresses were different thickness. Sheets could have been larger to tuck in.
2 swimming pools and a kiddie pool. In June could get a place to lie down. Not sure in high season. Towel regime in place.
Found a nice restaurant. Chinese. XiLiBao. Out of hotel, turn left, up the hill and bear left at first roundabout. It’s a little further on, on the right. Menu of the day gives you 3 courses from a limited choice (but OK) for 4.20E. Excellent value and the staff friendly. Forget the one at the bottom of the hill next to Angie’s. The supermarket MAS is further up past the XiLiBao on the left.
Trip to Gib. Got the bus tour myself (opted for no rock tour) for 8.50E. Gib is scruffy and only good for 1 bottle of booze and 200 cigs Spanish allowance. (e.g. 5.50E for litre Bacardi compared with 12.50E in Malaga airport.) Mijas worth going to see but just jump on a local bus, much cheaper. Have a nice time. We did.
Bali Hotel is on a steep-ish hill but its OK. Cross the road at the bottom, walk down a lesser slope then you get 86 steps in all which take you onto the sand. Slightly less steps to the promenade. Turn left, keep going, up steps and down to right and come to the Marina. Worth a visit, like little Venice.

The Hotel Bali is a large hotel,...

Sep 2003, Mr J Mearns

The Hotel Bali is a large hotel, which is very clean and tidy. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
There are two pools and a children’s pool, which are both manned by lifeguards.
There is entertainment all day for the kids and there was also a bouncy castle on some nights. The Hotel entertainment staff were great with the kids keeping them entertained with games all day long. At night there was entertainment, which ranged from the musical Grease played by the staff to a professional parrot show.
The food was buffet style and the range and quality was very good.
The rooms are all air conditioned and are really nicely decorated and spacious.
The hotel is on a steep hill with lots of small bars nearby which are all good value for money.
I would recommend this hotel to both families and older couples wanting a quiet holiday.
I would definitely book another holiday at this hotel.

Just returned from a 2 weeks holiday,...

Jul 2003, Select

Just returned from a 2 weeks holiday, the hotel has been refurbished and upgraded to a 3* with self catering new this year. You can go half board and I heard the food was good, but the rooms are quite small. The studio is huge, very clean and the decoration is quite good / modern for a hotel.
They have life guards on both pools. The reps and entertainment team are fab, if you have youngsters you will not need to leave the Hotel. The beach is down the ( small hill and over the road, but there a quite a few steps). The marina is lovely and it has a sea life centre.
There a lot of bars and entertainment outside the Hotel both at the top of the bank as well as the bottom. I would recommend this to anyone. If you take Euro travellers cheques there is a bank called the CENTRAL HISPANO which is 5 minutes walk towards MacDonald's, and you get your money exchanged with no commission.
The pubs to visit for entertainment is Buzbys, go to see Colin Campbell he is on every Sunday and Thursday. He's a bit like a drag artist, but sings and has good jokes. The Elephanty at the top of the hill is good depending who is on. Mr Pickwick outside the Hotel is good, especially if you have kids as they play Bingo etc. It's a good family pub, it opens at 8pm every night and is full by 8.30pm (they don't have entertainment).
