Orion Hotel

The location was amazing, a 30 second walk to St Marks square. The room was exceptionally clean, comfy beds and very effective air conditioning, which we were very thankful for as it was 30 degrees outside. We were actually in a room slightly apart from the hotel, which afforded us a lot of privacy. Staff are very helpful, and allowed us to leave our cases at the hotel even after checkout, which was extremely useful as checkout is at 11 am, and our flight wasn't until 10 pm.

Location, Location, Location - two minutes walk from St Marks. The room was small and the bathroom minute, but all was very clean and tidy. The Continental breakfast was very good. Great value for Venice, so close to the main tourist attractions.

My wife and I just returned from a 2 night stay in Venice a couple days ago. I booked the Orion on --- the night before we left. I got a rate of 87 euros per nite. Pros: (1) Awesome location. 2 Min walk from San Marco Square and a 10 min walk (if even that) to Rialto Bridge. Close to the water boat stops. A gelato shop right in front of the door to the hotel! (2) Price. Couldn't ask for a better price for the location. (3) Staff. The three guys working the front desk while we were there were very friendly and helpful. They were good about giving recommendations on sites and restaurants. I must pass this recommendation on.....Go to Kalia for pizza. Really good pizza there! Ask for directions if you are there. (3) Rooms were clean and bed was comfy. (4) Breakfast. Nothing fancy but the hotel did have a complimentary breakfast with croissants, breads, cheese, jams, etc. Cons: (1) The bathroom. The bathroom was tiny. No bath tub. The shower was so small that it was impossible to move in there without being draped by the shower curtain. Not sure if this is all rooms, or just the room we were given since we got such a cheap rate. It was room 43. (2) No elevator. Wasn't a big deal for us, but it may be for others. (3) Air conditioner didnt work. It was hot during the day, but at night it cooled down quite a bit. So not having the AC was not that big of a deal. Overall, it was a good stay at the Orion. The place is definitely not a luxury hotel, but it is no dump either. We didnt spend much time in the room, except to sleep and wash up, so it was perfect for what we were looking for. Definitely cant beat its location, thats for sure. The location is the main reason for the Above Average vote and not Neutral. if youre willing to sacrifice the luxury and amenities such as room size and tv, I definitely recommend this place ssimply for its outstanding location.

A beautiful small hotel perfectly located in the heart of Venice. 2 minutes from St Mark's Square, very clean, recently renovated, classy atmosphere and very good continental breakfast. The room is small but the view from the windows (including the washroom window) is amazing, the decor is also very nice. Probably the best value in the center of Venice (140 euro for 4).

The Orion is a clean and tidy small hotel in the perfect position. The breakfast room spans a busy shopping street two floors below, the breakfasts were well above "continental breakfast" standard and the staff were all helpful and friendly. The rooms were impeccably clean and well serviced. Our room, 25 was on the first floor and the only occasional noise disturbance was from the bells of St Marks Basilica two streets away, we will go again.

When we arrived after a long train journey, we were 2 hours early for check in. The staff could see that we were in need of a lie down and without asking upgraded us to apartments next door that they manage. Breakfast is nice upstairs. The location is excellent next to St Marks and to the vaparetto and gondola stops. The staff were very helpful and even walked us to a local restaurant as it was in a hard to find location. Highly recommended, private bathrooms, clean, helpful and the best location in Venice.

We stayed at this hotel with my mother for 3 nights in November 2004. The rate was 60 euros per night, and for this money the Orion is just great. We were given a room not at the hotel itself but in a house on the same street, 20 meters from the hotel entrance. The room was in fact a specious studio, with a kitchenette. The kitchenette was unusable though, because it was locked under the hood. The best thing about this hotel is the location - 30 seconds walking from piazza San Marco. The hotel is not difficult to find - just followthe instructions from the hotel's website ---- The room was also quite comfortable - on the second floor, clean, not too noisy at night, with a modern bathroom. Breaksfast is nothing special, don't expect any fruits. But it is quite ok for Italy. I can recommend this hotel and will definetely stay again provided that the price is right.

What's so great about this one is the location! It is 1 block from St. Markus square and the waterfront! The rooms are average, the staff nice, and the continental breakfast great. It provides great access to everything. Some rooms have A/C which was nice.

This hotel is in a GREAT location, just 2 blocks off St Marks, and is good for the money, despite rather small rooms. Beware that the shower is basically the bathroom itself with a curtain around the showerhead (i.e. the floor will be flooded until it all drains down). They have A/C, although I had to ask them how to use it (the hot is cold and the cold is hot in my room). They have no lift, so if you don't like stairs, make sure to get a lower floor. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included with things like croissants, yogurt, coffee/capuccino, and cereal. It's very hard to find the first time... but another reviewer provided directions that were very helpful! I'll summarize them: take the water bus #82 to to the last stop on the Grande Canal (Zacarias??). From St Mark's, with your back to the sea, walk to the other side of it. On a side street there, you will see 2 small waist height lions...follow the road that goes off to the left there. It makes a jog to the right at the next intersection (by the shop with the model cars in the window)...follow that. It's at the end of that road on the left (one small door and a lantern sign overhead).

Excellent location - very close to St. Mark's Square. But had to struggle a bit to find the hotel. No lift and room was on the third floor - had a tough time with the luggage. Breakfast was alright - croissants OR cornflakes along with a cup of tea/coffee/juice. Room was clean but very compact and so was the bathroom. Would definitely consider staying there again (because of the location).
