Excellent value for money
We have just (today) returned from a 3 night stay in the Hotel Lisbona. The location was perfect, the staff friendy whilst the room as beautifully decorated and cosy and the breakfast was exceptional value. The only negative comment that we could make is that the bed had a very firm mattress, which we found uncomfortable, but not only would we certainly recommend this hotel to others, but we would not hesitate to return there ourselves.
Nice hotel, great location!
Me and my girlfriend have just got back from Venice where we had a lovely two-night stay at the Lisbona. Finding it wasn't a problem at all, we literally stepped off the water taxi from Piazzale Roma at the San Marco stop and pretty much inadvertantly stumbled across it (although we had noted from some of the reviews on here that it was close to the Bauer and Gucci). The hotel is decorated nicely and really has a nice Venetian feel to it. Although small, our room was warm and cosy and poking our heads out the window gave us a fantastic view! The staff helped us out in so many ways, from looking after our luggage for long periods of time both when we arrived very early and left very late, to providing us with umbrellas when it was raining and giving us directions to the Vaporetto stops and currency exchanges. All in all I would definitely recommend the Lisbona, being literally a two-minute walk from St Mark's Square and right in the centre of the designer shopping area aswell as being on a canal and surrounded by restaurants, well, what can you say the location is PERFECT. What's more, the hotel is so nice aswell! Also, not sure of the usual room rates but I booked the hotel through the British holiday company Thomson and got a fantastic deal, for what I paid it was incredible value.
A hidden Gem !
Spend 2 nights at this wonderful hotel in summer just tuck away off St mark's square. The staff is helpful and the location is just perfect, just 5 mins off St Mark's square and away from all the hordes of tourists and bombers pigeons ! The room thou small is nicely decorated and is very cosy. In fact, it is just by one of the canal with a gondola stop and if you stay on the top level and stretch ur head out, you can get a pictureseque view of the Grand Canal. Breakfast was also good with quite a decent spread thou the dining area is limited. Overall, it represented excellent value for money and is one of a gem !
Excellent
When you consider the location of this hotel, it is excellent value for money. We paid a little extra for a canal view (room 15) which was great. I frequently stood on the small balcony watching Gondolas pass by, listening to the accordians and singing which really added to the experience of being in Venice. Should you choose to stay here, you will leave incapable of forgetting the tune to a funny song called 'Ciao Venezia' (I think this canal is on the end of the Gondola tour). Fortunately, when the shutters are pulled and the doors closed, the noise from the canal is minimal, so easy to get to sleep. The decor is interesting, the room is clean. As with all places on the Island, the rooms are small, but, given the exploring to do, there is little time to sit around in the room. Breakfast is the typical continental fare. Not exceptional, but until our fellow Europeans get a taste for bacon and eggs, I will never be favourably reviewing the breakfasts. The staff are friendly and allowed us to leave our luggage for several hours after checkout, which was a problem solved, given our flight time. If money is no object, stay in the 5 star around the corner. If you are budget conscious (or find it hard to part with hard earned cash to pay for a little used room), then stay here.
A nice slice of Venice
A great view of a small side canal and the sounds of singing gondoliers floating through the window greeted us each morning (around 10am -- don't be alarmed). The staff were very friendly and helpful and directed us to a great restaurant. The room was small but elegantly decorated and very clean. A mini bar with snacks was present, as was a potent air conditioner. We slept through all of the breakfasts, but the breakfast room looked nice. There is no elevator, and rooms start on the 2nd floor. Great location -- 3 minutes walk from San Marco Vallaresso vaporetto (#82 or #1) stop, and 5 minutes walk to Piazza San Marco. From the vaporetto stop, go straight past a bunch of designer shops (Gucci, etc.), then take a left at the end of the street. Cross over one small canal bridge, and look to your left under the archway -- there it is, tucked away. We would definitely stay here again!
Venice:Hotel Lisbona: fantastic location, great value
I found the hotel without too much difficulty from the Marco Polo waterbus. Turn left as you get off the boat, over a small bridge, pass Harrys Bar turn right, to the end of the lane, turn left cross over the first bridge, immediate left passed the Gondoliers under the canopy and there is the hotel. A warm welcome, no waiting, reservation confirmed. NO LIFT. Room spotless and well designed. All facilities worked well including the efficient shower. Bed comfortable. View over small canal. Breakfast terrific and varied. Open 24hrs. So central as to be unbelievable for St. Marks, shops and restaraunts. Fantastic value. Would certainly stay there again.
hidden gem
What a little treasure! We struggled for a little while to find it. As you go up over the canal coming from San Marco square it's on the left alongside the canal. The staff were helpful, booked a music night, and helped us with travel. It's ideally situated 1 minute from San Marco. The rooms were a little small but opened out onto the canal. Would definitely go back.
Loved it!
I stayed here for 2 nights at a rate of 80 euros a night. However, if you pay cash, there's a 10% discount. I arrived in Venice (San Marco Alilaguna station) around 6:00 pm at night. It was my first time in Venice and it was dark. Needless, to say I found it quite easily. I first saw the Hotel Bauer and found it under a "hallway" right beside the canal. Check-in was extremely pleasant and I got my quoted room with a canal view on the 2nd floor. There are no elevators in this hotel but there's a total of 3 floors. The room itself was tiny and the bathroom even tinier. But the room was very tastefully decorated and the bathroom was extremely new. With my canal view, I was quite happy. The heating controls were very easy to use and the room was very quiet. At breakfast, I was in for a treat! They had ham, salami, yogurt, cereal, fruit tarts, jelly filled croissants and jelly filled donuts. The coffee was delicious and so were the variety of juices. When something ran out, it was replaced very promptly. The location is excellent. It's literally 2 minutes from San Marco square and in the expensive shops area. We used it as a base during the day to rest while sightseeing. I was extremely pleased with the value received from the hotel and would highly recommend it to others.
Wonderful little hotel in a fantastic location
I found this hotel by reading the reviews on this site and could not have been more delighted. Although small the room was spotless and really cosy and comfortable. The windows and little balcony looked out over the canal, perfect for watching the gondolas drift past. The hotel staff noticed from my passport that it was my birthday and left a bottle of champagne in the room. All in all a wonderful find and only minutes from St. Mark's Square and some fantastic shops.
great location, staff could be nicer
Difficult to find. Room which was agreed 2 months beforehand was not ready - we were allocated the smallest room in the hotel. Next day we moved to a very nice room, canal view, hugh bathroom. On leaving staff attempted to charge almost the full rate for the first night - following discussion the price was reduced to an acceptable level. We would return, I think because of the really great location. Overall, a bit disappointing as this was a much needed and looked forward to holiday.
