Overall our holiday was great. Location was brilliant. We picked Avanti Village as I had stayed in Avanti Hotel previously so thought we would try there. The staff were very friendly, maid service was excellent and thorough. Entertainment needs improving as there wasn’t enough for the amount of people there.
My children enjoyed all the daytime activities. The room was spacious and clean and I would recommend one with an upstairs balcony as it has more privacy. It is in a prime location for all bars and restaurants and plenty of shops. There is a bus stop outside or you can take a taxi which is not expensive.
I would recommend the Fiesta Bar as the food is excellent and the staff very friendly. I would certainly recommend Avanti Village.

We have just got back from a fabulous two week holiday at the Avanti village.
The accommodation was very good, nice size rooms for myself and husband and two girls of 12 and 16. I can’t fault the maid service, very good.
The pool was lovely, if you didn't mind getting up at the crack of dawn to put your towels on the sun beds! That was a real problem no matter how early you got up there never seemed to be enough to go around and space around the pool was to put it mildly cozy!
The price of the drinks around the pool was an issue with us we paid a high price to stay there for the two weeks, the price of the drinks were very high and you would get them in a plastic glass which is understandable at lunch times, but not so nice in the evenings.
The food in the hotel was OK for canteen food but nothing to rave about.
The best meals we had which I would recommend to anyone going to Paphos is Gabors, he food and the service is outstanding, don't bother too much with Cavollinis which seems to be recommended in the guide books, there we felt very on edge to eat and get out as soon as possible so the next customers could get in. Gabors was very much the opposite very relaxed must try the crepes if you go an experience in its self.
We enjoyed a traditional meze at Hondros which is well hidden and not so commercialised, very nice food.
We did do the water park at Paphos, it was OK, but we thought the Fasouri one in Limassol was by far the best, not so busy hardly any queuing and lots more room, well worth the hours drive to get there.
The beach at Coral Bay is lovely, but the nicest one we found was Lara Bay, very well worth the hair raising journey, we wished we had taken a picnic and had the whole day there, not crowded at all or full of English people!
All in all I would say we loved Paphos, the Avanti Village would be ideal if you have small children, the entertainment left a lot to be desired, how many times do you want to hear the birdie song or play bingo? The aqua aerobics was good fun and my husband enjoyed the daily water polo.
If you do go to Paphos be prepared to spend a lot. Watch out for the taxi ride back to the airport as we were charged 24 Cyprus£, when on arrival we only paid 17 Cyprus£, complete rip off!

We have just got back and can honestly say we loved every minute.
The Avanti is a good 15 minutes walk to bar street which is the main area for nightlife. The accommodation is clean and very comfortable. The pool area is fantastic and very safe for kids with the day time entertainment with Chris and Monica good.
However the bar service at the pool area is very slow and you get no one to one with the staff with the feeling you are just another punter. Prices are about the same as here beer 1.95 Cypriot pounds and coke 1.10.
In the resort we could get a meal for four for about £40 but we got through loads of money as drinks can be expensive. The local water park is good but cost £107 for four and you can not take any drinks or food in.
On the whole a lovely holiday and would go back again.

We have visited Cyprus three times now and we are already considering going again!
The rooms were clean and spacious but the walls could do with a bit of a scrub. In the kitchen there were a range of stuff to use such as a kettle a fridge and various other things.
The pool is the main base of the hotel. There’s only one word to describe it: superb!
There were lots of different stuff to do for the kids such as pool tables, games room with a wide range of fantastic games in it and there is a kids club.
There are two super markets on site but for cheaper and better products I would suggest to go to the super market at the bottom of the road as it is lots cheaper.
There are two bars on site the taverna and the pool bar. There is also a brilliant pub on site at the bottom of the hotel.
The Avanti village is the sister hotel to the avanti hotel. You can use all the hotels facilities which there is a wide range of stuff to do. At the hotel there a numerous amounts of pubs and bard and restaurants. The food is amazing. It is buffet style with an all you can eat service.
At the bottom of the village there is a square what belongs to the village. It is not built yet but it is NOT a building site. On the square there will be:
1 pub (fiesta) (already open)
2 Tavernas
1 Bank
2 Shops
1 Irish pub
And lots of other things.
This was a really good holiday and will properly be coming back!!

My partner and I are after returning from a fabulous holiday in Paphos and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Avanti Village. We holidayed for 2 weeks and found the apartments to be absolutely huge (just 2 of us tough).
We went on a self catering basis and found the apartments to be the best equipped we have ever stayed in i.e. TV, Hairdryer, pots, pans, wine opener, bottle opener etc... The staff were always very friendly and helpful, and I can’t give enough praise to the ladies who cleaned the apartments. Our room was cleaned every day with new towels every second day, it was a welcomed change from our Spanish and other Greek Holidays.
The Pool area is fabulous, such a huge pool and absolutely loads of sun beds for all. Usually we didn't surface until 12.00 or maybe even after every day, there were always loads of free sun beds available at those times. The swim up bar can be very addictive, really enjoyed not having to get out of the water to get a drink (my other half will definitely vouch for that!). The only downfall with the apartment is their lack of privacy, they are situated quite close to one another, so we really kept our curtains shut most of the time.
It wasn't such a big issue as we didn’t really spend a lot of time in our apartment, apart from sleeping, showering etc. The actual village area is not completed yet, at the moment the bar is open (Fiesta Bar, which is lovely) and the supermarket is open too. However if you are in need of lots of shopping please stay clear of the supermarket it is very expensive!! Its fine for small things like water, ice creams etc. All of the other buildings are built but not occupied as of yet! Shame really because the village area is very pretty and it seems such a waste that it is not being used to its full potential!
We stayed in block C and found this to be perfect as it was a happy medium for the pool and the exit. Obviously if you want to be extremely close to the pool opt to stay in Blocks A or B.
About Paphos in general, we enjoyed our stay there, people (especially the bus drivers were all very friendly and helpful). Around the Avanti itself there are a few bars and some beautiful restaurants. If you are looking for something a bit livelier then you can stroll into the harbour (or take the no. 11 or 15 bus) where you will find Bar Street, which is full of bars and clubs, good fun if your looking for something a bit livelier.
For all people who want to know apparently Cyprus is known for cheap glasses, sun glasses and leather goods. We found a lot of people taking their prescriptions with them and getting their glasses in Paphos. Cyprus in general is a bit pricey, compared with Greece, Spain, Canaries a typical meal for two cost roughly between 35 and 40 Cyprus Pounds every night. Drinks are not far off UK prices either.
We ate in some lovely restaurants; Rib Shack (just opposite the Avanti Hotel) was lovely. Cavellines was not all it was cracked up to be, disappointed really, Olmittas was nice. We also did the bbc night in the Avanti Hotel, for people who appreciate good food please do not waste your money. We didn't enjoy it at all! We tried Rimins and found the food to be nice but waited a little while for it and felt that the man on the door would sell his granny to get you in. Our most favourite restaurants were Gabors and Chloe’s restaurant. Gabors is also near the Avanti, it truly is fabulous, please give it a try. Fr those Chinese enthusiasts you have to try Chloes in the Harbour, its the nicest Chinese restaurant that we have ever eaten in, I can praise it enough.
Also try the Calypso coffees in Gabors and Chloes yummy! Captains View in the harbour is a no, no, I felt as if I was being watched the whole time there, and that was probably due to the fact that there were a line of waiters just standing up beside your table watching you! We also ate in Fat Mammas, which we enjoyed. Believe me if you are not a fat Mamma going in there you certainly will be coming out, the portions are huge but the food is lovely. Its situated on the Tomb of the Kings Road so you would either have to drive or get the no 15 bus.
During our 2 week stay we did the Egypt by air trip, and all I can say is wow!! We really enjoyed our experience in Egypt, its such an eye opener. I would definitely recommend this trip to all. To see the pyramids, mummies, sphinx, bazaar, was truly amazing. The lunch you get in the 5 star hotel was lovely. We felt the only little let down was the cruise on the Nile, we personally found it to be a bit tacky and didn't eat any of the food on board, as you didn't really know what it was. Apart from that if was excellent.
We also hired a car for 2 days and discovered Cyprus by ourselves which I would highly recommend, as the Cypriots drive on the same side of the road as ourselves and the roads over there are brilliant. It was lovely being able to stop whenever you wanted, and there are some spectacular sites to be seen in Cyprus. We would recommend visiting Adonis Baths and waterfalls, however I have to warn you the journey there is not for the faint hearted. Its about 5 miles off road on a dirt track basically, you will feel as if you are on the completely wrong road, but stay going, the waterfalls are beautiful, so pretty like something from a movie.
We also did a jeep safari to the Troodos Mountains, a great day out, with a truly entertaining driver, Ricco. A little tip though stay off the wine the night before, believe me you don’t want to be feeling the effects of the vino whilst being bounced around in the jeep!
Before we went away I printed off some of these reviews and brought them with me, I would recommend anyone to do the same it was great to have a sort of guide to the area. I have to say one of the best tips we got was from a lady who had written her review about a month ago. She said that for all self catering people that the small supermarkets in the area were very expensive, she is definitely right. Her tip was to get the no 11 bus or if you have a car and get off at E&S Supermarket. Its a huge supermarket that will save you an absolute fortune. If you bus it just ask the bus driver and he will tell you when to get off (its located beside Cosmic bowling) However do not make the mistake of going on a Sunday as it is closed.
Another tip is to try and avoid public transport on Sundays as it is practically non existent, Mon- Sat though it is great, buses every 15 min. If you get a car you can get to M&S by going into the Harbour, straight through until you will see the road bearing to the right. Take the right, go through traffic lights and keep driving until you see Cosmic bowling on the right hand side, M&S is beside that.
Avanti Village offers you the service of pool towels so you don’t have to bring your own. You just pay a deposit of 5 CYP and you can get them, which I though was a great idea. The weather in Cyprus is absolutely boiling reaching 34 every day we were there so bring plenty of sun cream!
We will definitely be returning to Cyprus and the Avanti Village again. We would recommend it as a holiday choice to anyone.

After staying in Coral Bay twice before, we decided to stay in Kato Paphos this time.
Staying self catering the rooms were fine with everything you'd need from a fridge to a cooker to a kettle to air conditioning in living room as well as bedroom, pity they didn't have an extractor fan in the bathroom.
Avanti Village is the sister to Avanti Hotel. The Village has such a great pool area, scrubbed and cleaned every day. It has enough loungers and umbrellas for everyone and more.
For the kids there is a games room and kids clubs, there is also a computer corner for the adults as well as the kids. At the Village there are also table tennis tables and pool tables.
If staying at the Village you can still use the facilities at the Hotel including the restaurants where the meals are served as buffet style and up to 5 courses and different themes on each night, we tried it a few times and found the food to be of a very high standard. We also ate out in Paphos as well, there's some really good restaurants and most bars sell snacks that are fine too.
Not far from the Village and Hotel is what they call the triangle, that has bars, shops, banks and restaurants around it.
The distances in the brochure are not correct, from the village to the harbour said it was a 10 min walk but is 17 mins in heat, also to the water park it said it was 500mts but I'd say more like 1000mts, but not to worry there's buses every 15 mins.
At the Village there is a snack bar that closes at about 5pm. At the plaza that’s at the other end is a bar called the Fiesta, which stayed open while ever you wanted it to, which we used to full advantage even having our 10 year old son asleep on sofas inside while we had a drink. The plaza isn't finished yet but we were told that there was to be a bank, a taverna and other shops.
My only gripe was the fact that the Hotel pool area wasn't as good as ours (overgrown and too many trees) and there was no night time entertainment at the Village.
If you have young kids the Village is the ideal place to go. While in Cyprus you should go on a couple of day trips like doing the Troodos or going to the market place.

Accommodation was clean and spacious with lovely balcony. The staff were so friendly especially in the kids club. The buses go from across the road and 11, 15 and 12 will bring you to the harbour. They run every 20 mins.
The restaurants are all child friendly and the nicest one we came across was called no panic and was in Paphos just a 5min walk from apt. There are water sports on the beach and the jet skis are safe for children to go on with their parents. We will definitely go back.

We have stayed at the Avanti hotel before and it was excellent so tried the village in June 2005.
We had a great time the pools are fab - especially the lazy river for the kids (and big kids!). We have booked again and are going in June 2006. The only thing I'd criticize is that it wasn't finished, but the unfinished part is further away and you wouldn't know. I would like to reserve an upper floor appt but didn’t have the option but maybe can choose when we get there this YR.
Recommend hiring a car for a couple of days as coral bay is a long way if you want a good beach and the harbour is much further than any of the brochures say. Good restaurants around - recommend the Plaka but a bit pricy.

Really enjoyed our stay at Avanti village. Good sized, clean apartment, good maid service, our apt seemed to be cleaned everyday, towels changed etc. Breakfast at Avanti hotel was great (apart from juice) big selection, continental and English, buffet style, worth it. Walk to harbour pleasant, not too near (its busy there) not too far, 15-20 mins.
Fulltime sports person played tennis/table tennis with Mr. M. Great pool, a little windy at times, a bit open at some ends but otherwise lovely. Early-mid may good as not too busy anywhere.
Downsides refer to Paphos in general. Pricey food. Pushy front of house staff who lure you in a bit too aggressively. Pushy cab drivers, hooting and kerb crawling for fairs. Pricey cabs. Everywhere seems to be 5 £cy!
Avoid like the plague those pesky Brits (outside Paneretti Hotel and down at the harbour) who live there and who push scratch cards on you to lure you into a creepy hotel to push a Holiday Club on you and DONT SIGN UP its a con. 28 years of paying in.
Avoid Seagull restaurant at the harbour, overlooks it from east side. Alright food but my god did the waitress do an annoyingly hard sell (how much food can one couple eat, she was after the bucks, not interested in what we wanted at all!) and we had no time between courses. Pricey too.
Paphos is good, lots of good sights, not many beaches or what could be called a beach, Coral bay is good but a bus ride away. No high rise apartments but its developing fast and its full of Brits.
Booked Jeep Safari with Steve’s company, ask for Christos as the driver he is the best. Really local, knows the island, the people and gives a lot.

Every year we return there are the same old faces, both customers and staff from the year before. Very safe for kids very clean and lots to do around the area if you can be bothered try fat mama's try the rib shack.
Try the big yellow bus visit coral bay eat in the harbour just get out and look around. Can’t believe people moan about ants spiders and cockroaches it’s in the hundreds its not Blackpool.

We had an excellent holiday at the Avanti Village.
Accommodation is in small blocks of 4, two upstairs, two on ground floor. A little difficult finding your way around at first as the place is so big.
We had a ground floor apartment, one bedroom, large comfortable bed, good sized bathroom, large living room with kitchenette. Everything was clean and in good order. There was a small terrace reached from the living room.
All the apartments are set in gardens which looked a bit sparse. The final phase of the complex still wasn't complete, most of the structural work was done but it still needed fitting out.
The pool area was great, good size, plenty sun beds, not too much disturbance from kids etc. The pool bar was good, only used the restaurant for lunch a couple of times, ok but not great.
There is a shop on site but there was a better selection at some of the other shops on the main street.
The complex is a fair distance from the main cluster of bars and restaurants, although there are some pretty good ones nearby. We enjoyed Oleastro and Gabor. the bus service into town was pretty good especially if you don't fancy a fairly long walk.
The only downsides we found were a small colony of ants living under our patio (never got into the apartment) and getting a football top stolen while it was drying on the patio.

We had not been on holiday for two years and decided to splash out spending £2.5k for two adults and one child aged 7. Have always booked our own holidays but decided to book with a tour operator.
I would never book with First Choice again. FC told me the beach was over the road which turned out to be a 10 minute walk and was not a beach. Pre-booked seats with First Choice on plane who then moved us to the back (we had paid and showed on receipt but a complete waste of time), on arrival asked the rep to sort it out as we had paid extra, two weeks later on our return journey he said he had emailed staff in UK but had not received a response.
The rep promised to get our bathroom sorted out as it was filthy and had mould growing up the shower curtain and tiles, my daughters sheets on her bed on arrival had not been changed and there was dirt and sand in them. For the two weeks he never came back and when asked about it said he would get the cleaner to sort it out which never happened.
After one week a violent ear infection went round the children at the swimming pool and had to go the Doctors and daughter could not swim for a week. Saying all this my daughter thoroughly enjoyed it, the daily club which ran from 11.00-1.00 gave her an opportunity to make friends and she loved the people in charge, the visitors at the resort were friendly and some had been back year after year.
If the cleanliness had been better, the staff friendlier and First Choice had not been such hard work and misleading we would not have been so disappointed. Don't do half board either it is overpriced and you will go mad with food boredom.

Having visited Las Vegas the previous year for our son's wedding staying at the Venetian, we were so impressed we returned but decided to stay at the Bellagio this year.
The hotel, being rated 5 star, was everything it claimed to be and more. We had requested a lakeside view which not only showed the world famous Las Vegas Strip but the dancing fountains outside. This made the stay at the Bellagio the best ever. The rooms were big and spacious but certainly not as classy as the suites in the Venetian. However the overall standard was first class. It is pricey but I would recommend booking the room direct than going through a tour operator.
A far better price can be obtained at a considerable saving. There are plenty swimming pools, spas and restaurants as well as first class shopping with the likes of Prada, Tiffany & Co as well as Armani and Dior. The casino is massive and has more natural light than some of the others and there is something for every pocket there. I was gambling 25 cents a time but if you want to gamble more, feel free, they are just as happy to take your cash!!
The staff could not be more helpful and the smiles were genuine. However, the maid visited our room sometimes three times a day and with tips each time, this can mount up. I found it worthwhile, the room was always immaculate and you never needed to request clean towels, they were there regularly.
There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but you can ask for these for an extra charge. All of the restaurants in the Bellagio were excellent and you are literally spoilt for choice. If you do stay there, you should make a booking to see the world famous group Cirque du Soleil to see the show 'O'. This is absolutely outstanding and the music superb.
The Bellagio is situated in the heart of the strip and there are many hotels close by including Caeasars Palace which is right next door. But distances are deceptive in Las Vegas. What looks right next door can actually be more than 20 minutes away or more if you decide to walk. If walking is not your thing, climb on the monorail and it will take you the full length of the strip to the Mandalay Bay Hotel, the furthest away on the strip, back down to one of the older hotels, the Sahara.
Each hotel is an experience in itself and you can spend a morning in just one discovering the sights. The weather was in the high 90's which we found absolutely wonderful but the air conditioning in every hotel and shop will cool you down fast. There are so many tours available in Las Vegas and we visited Lake Mead and Hoover Dam, excellent.
I would recommend Las Vegas to anyone but it is an expensive place to visit. So impressed were we, and we have now visited twice, we will return there in a couple of years time. Because its so amazing, we will return to the Bellagio, the best hotel in Vegas in our view.

We arrived in Las Vegas after an 11.5 hour flight. I mention the flight, as it was the longest one I've ever been on. We flew with BMI and although there were many films to choose from, the flight was still dull and long. The food was interesting and like nothing I'd ever tasted before. My advice, take sandwiches. The majority of the cabin crew were courteous, although one or two were miserable, short tempered and obviously as tired as we were after 11 hours.
On arrival at the hotel, we stood in the doorway and marvelled at the size of the place, it really was fantastic, we took many pictures, but none did justice to the scale of the pyramid.
We chose a room in the tower, as we'd heard that the pyramid rooms were smaller. There were two double beds in the room, a TV, nice bathroom with bath and a separate shower cubicle. Unfortunately there was no mini bar or tea and coffee making facilities. If you have a travel kettle, take it with you.
We chose a smoking room, as my partner smokes. The windows didn't open and unfortunately there was only one air conditioning unit, no other ventilation and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work, even though we reported it 3 times. So if my partner smoked a cigarette, the smell was appalling and impossible to get rid of.
There were coffee bars in the hotel, but coffee was $3.50 which was a bit less than £2.50. Doesn't sound very much, but when there's two of you it's £5 in the morning, noon and evening, £15 for coffee everyday soon adds up.
The breakfast buffet in the hotel was $14+tax, about £10 each. It was okay, had the basics, but not as good as Ponderosa, (and about 3 times the price).
The hotel shop is a good source for forgotten items, they sell little packets of indigestion tablets, antihistamine, just four tablets in a pack, enough to keep you going until you get to a pharmacy (Walgreens by the MGM Grand). Also chocs, drinks, postcards, too many things to mention.
On the 1st floor, there's fast food eateries, McDonalds, a coffee shop, sandwich shop and ice cream parlour, there's a Mexican, but the food was terrible. We ate there the first night, had chicken fajitas which were revolting. Their freshly fried tortilla chips were delicious though.
The Fusia restaurant is worth a visit, the food's a cross between Thai and Chinese and was delicious.
The Pyramid cafe on the casino floor proved a much better
alternative to the breakfast buffet, the eggs and bacon were
delicious and about the same price as the buffet breakfast.
We ate at the Luxor Steakhouse three times. My partner loves steak and said it was the best steak he'd had in ages. I favoured the chicken in gravy which was fab. It was about £85 for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides of veg and a couple of beers.
There's a bar just off the reception called Nerfatiti, (don't know how to spell it!) there was usually live music on. Drinks were a bit dear at $4.75 for a bottle of Budweiser and the same for a glass of 7up. It was a nice place to sit and listen to music, but the drinks were overpriced, and don't forget about tipping, every time the waitress brings you a drink, you have to tip.
We discovered that the TV in the bedroom hosted a variety of new films, which hadn't even been shown at cinemas in the UK. For $11 each, we watched FlightPlan, The Man and Into the Blue.
Sights worth a look were the Grand Canyon which was fab. The Hilton hosts the Star Trek exhibition which was good and I'd recommend the 'warp core' cocktails in Quark's bar!
The constant ching, ching of slot machines got to be a real pain after a few days and unfortunately there's no getting away from the noise. Like all the other hotels in Vegas, there's nowhere to sit away from the crowds and read a book. Everywhere is dedicated to generating money and getting you to part with it.
Considering it's supposed to be the entertainment capital of the world, if you're not into gambling or shopping, there's not a lot else to do.
The cost of the holiday was £680 for 7 nights accommodation and flights from Manchester. I took $850 spending money and spent all of it. I also put the cost of a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon and a couple of meals on my credit card, so probably spent an extra $600. So in total I probably spent nearly £1600 on the week's holiday.
I've given the holiday a rating of 3 out of 10, mainly because it was expensive for what it was, there are a lot more interesting places to go in the world that cost less than £1600. It wasn't my type of place, mainly because it was so loud, crowded and cultureless.
Please note: In this review, I've listed a lot of prices and how much things cost, mainly because I was in the dark on this when I went to Vegas, I'd expected it to be as cheap as Florida and the rest of America, so I had a real shock when it wasn't. So hopefully my review will open your eyes to the cost of things in this part of the world.

The Avanti Village is superb and we will return again next year. The facilities are first class and the standard of cleanliness was high.
The resort at this time of year is quieter than in high season, therefore allowing a more relaxed pace of holiday. Having stayed in other hotels in Paphos we would recommend anyone to stay here. The entertainment team were excellent, providing a full range of activities both within and out with the pool. There is still some development work to be completed at the resort, however this does not in any way interfere with the excellent facilities already on offer.
There are lots of restaurants and shops around the village, and transport to the town centre is easily accessible by bus or taxi. Well worth a visit - we will be back next year.
