Gorizia A La Valigia Hotel Reviews

7 / 10
Nov 2006, Mrs D Williams

For the price, an excellent hotel in a perfect position for seeing Venice - half way between Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. Room was smallish, with en suite shower only, but very clean with fresh towels and soaps etc every day. Breakfast basic, but self service... more

location, location, location!
My partner and I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel and would definately recommend it. The location is unbeatable! Just a short stroll from the Rialto and San Marco and surrounded by little bars and restaurants. The room was clean and the decor was lovely, with braided curtains, ornate furniture and Murano glass chandalier. The bathroom was clean and well equipt, and breakfast was a good continental. The only possible moan could be that the room was a bit small and only one person could fit in the bathroom. This might have been a prob if our stay was longer but for 2 nights it was fine. If your coming from the airport, get a waterbus from there to San Marco (10 Euros)Takes about an hour. Walk across the square and take the alley signposted Rialto (think its next to the Grand Cafe or something similar)This takes you to the calle die Fabbria where the hotel is. Have a lovely time if you go, but youll need plenty of spending money! Expect London prices. P.S. A ride on a Gondola down the Grand Canal is 100 Euro! Caio!
Great Location, Not So Great Hotel
We stayed there for one night and wished we hadn't. Although it was a great location (right in the middle of Rialto and San Marco), we were not impressed. The pictures we saw in their advertisements were not the reality, the beds were worn out foam and not too comfortable, and the shower stalls were clogged. Not to mention the smell (but that's to be expected in Venice in general). We spent the least amount of time we could there (basically just for sleeping). For the money we spent that night, I would say the value was lacking. It's not worth the price BY FAR!
Our Stay at the Gorizia a la Vligia, Venice, Italy
We have just returned from a 3night stay at this hotel, which our daughter had booked particularly for its central position and the romantic decor. It proofed an excellent choice as the hotel is about 3mins walk from the Rialto Bridge and about 5mins walk from StMark's Square, with an array of restaurants and shops around it. Our daughter chose an upgraded room. It had a small balcony, the walls were covered in damask, with a lovely chandelier and mirror. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom. Towels, linen and even soap were renewed every day. I would give it a 5*rating except, having had upgrades previously, the room was on the small in comparison. Breakfast, though Continental, was adequate. The staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful. The male receptionist on arrival less so. (Maybe he had had a hard day!) Location is superb, as is the customer service....
We stayed from 26th Dec 2005 for 3 nights. We originally had booked for 2 nights from 27th but booked extra night at midnight Xmas night on easyjet website. Arrived at 11am after excellent easyjet flight, so this was well before stated check in time, but despite the confusion with 2 bookings the desk man had us a room within 10 minutes. The room was room 64 which is located at rear of building on top floor. The hotel has a lift so only one flight needed to climb. The room was single beds as requested and had extra bonus of a third bed for room. The beds were arranged head to head as room was rectangular in shape with L bit for third bed. Very clean, excellent heating system, quiet and with a well sized bathroom with powerful shower with hot water whenever we used it. Breakfast was standard european bread rolls, shame no meant was included but was adequate to fill us up. The great bit about hotel is the location which was basically a 2 minute walk to San Marco square and a 2 minute stroll to Rialto and lots of shops in area. Get a vapperetto pass, well worth it and do the secret itenarary at the Doges palace. We had a great if cold trip in venice, which was greatly assisted by this lovely hotel which cost us £32 a head each per night.
very central, fantastic rooms
Newly refurbished rooms (check out those chandeliers!) and amazingly central location makes this great value and a really, really good place to stay. Slightly grumpy staff and just about bearable breakfast. But big thumbs up.
great experience
After staying at a dissapointing Hotel in Rome, Gorizia was a pleasant experience. Great location, friendly and helpful staff, clean adequate sized room. Only beef was the missing shower door, not a huge problem. Breakfast was nice although they could turn the heat down in the breakfast room. A bit of constuction noise next door, but obviously not there fault. I would definately recommend to anyone travelling to Venice. Hope you like Velvet!
Convenient location
Just returned from 3 nights in Venice staying at the Gorizia. The hotel is in a great location a few minutes walk from St. Marks and the Rialto so it is easy to return during the day to drop off shopping etc. Our room was small but very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was fine for Continental. Our only gripe was that the air conditioning didn't seem to be working and as the room was quite hot and stuffy we had to sleep with the window open which was quite noisy with late night wanderers/gondoliers singing/bells ringing and a building site next door which started up at 8a.m.! Overall though I would recommend it as a good central base for anyone not planning to spend their time sitting around the hotel.
Great Location
My husband, myself and our 9 yr old daughter stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Our stay was a pleasant one although we did not spend a great deal of time in our room (room 54). The location was perfect between Ponte di Rialto and Piazza San Marco. We arrived by train into Santa Lucia station and then took vaporetto line 82(water bus) to Rialto. Once off the vaporetto turn right and follow the canal then turn left into calle Bembo and follow it till it becomes calle dei Fabbri. Our room was quite small but clean and very quite during the night. The bathroom was also clean however the shower recess is very tiny. The continental breakfast was adequate, but some fresh fruit would have been nice. So if you are looking for location over luxury this would be the place for you. (Loved the fabric rich red & gold wallpaper and the painted furniture)
Small But Delightful!
I think the last reviewer must have been staying at another hotel or working for the opposition! This hotel is great, rooms and bathrooms are spotlessly clean (no mould down the toilet!) with super quiet air conditioning that works a treat, nicely decorated, bed linen is crisp and clean. The hotel location is perfect, situated between the Rialto bridge and St Mark's square in a very quiet street. For reference, our party of four stayed in room numbers 47 and 60. I haven't given this hotel the full 'five blobs' rating because the continental breakfast is absolutely pathetic and really worth avoiding. Secondly, although much less important, is the fact that the rooms have a lovely wardrobe to put your clothes in but no drawer space at all, we lived partially out of the suitcase! If you are planning a trip to Venice and want a centrally located hotel in pleasant surroundings and enjoy a peaceful nights sleep, I can THOROUGHLY recommend this hotel and would without doubt use the hotel again on any future visits to Venice.
why, Gorizia?
Location is ok. Room (number 42) is terrible. it is completely different from the one advertised, very dirty, furnitures and beds broken, toilet full of mold.
