Charming hotel that lived up to expectations
I would certainly recommend the Giorgione. My husband and I (we're in our early fifties) stayed for four nights in early July this year (2004) and had a wonderful time. We had a double superior room, pleasantly furnished, with a large bed on a mezzanine, reached by an attractive wooden staircase. We were able to take our breakfast (and the iced tea and sparkling wine served free in the afternoons) in the lovely little courtyard, complete with pond. My only criticisms were that the bed was a little hard for my taste and the clothes... more
Loved Hotel Giorgione
After checking into a horrible hotel near St, Mark's (one which our travel agent had chosen) we looked in Rick Steve's Venice 2004 book and moved to this hotel. Hotel Giorgione is charming, homey, with a lovely, friendly staff. The charming courtyard is a quiet respite from the tourist-hell you feel bombarded by in Venice. In the courtyard, there is fresh tea and classical music piped in...fabulous. The internet access is high speed and the room was lovely. We highly recommend it.
Excellence
My experience of the Giogione has been very dissimilar to the others expressed here. Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 3 night and found it to be one of the most charming hotels we had ever stayed it - it has a genuine old-world charm in parts. Our room was fabulous - it was a junior suite split over 2 levels and a real delight - I've never stayed in a room like it before. The courtyard is a great place to have a relxaing drink late in the evening. Breakfast was good, without being startling, but more than adequate in... more
Look elsewhere
We stayed at the Giorgione May 25 and 26. Just not a very good place to stay. It is not bad by any means (i.e. dirty), but I felt like the value for the dollar wasn't there. The front desk staff is not very helpful and is arrogant, the bathroom had a very bad smell (air fresheners were provided next to the shampoos, but did not work very well), and the breakfast was not very good. This was one of four hotels we stayed in Italy and for the second most expensive, it was also the worst. There is not a bad location for a hotel in... more
Heavy sleepers only need apply
Good things about the Hotel Giorgione: breakfast is included and is pretty decent by hotel standards; internet access is available free of charge; each room has a large umbrella to use, which comes in handy when a storm hits. Bad things about the hotel: unless you are lucky enough to get a corner room, which has two sets of outer doors, then you better be a heavy sleeper. I stayed in two different rooms in this hotel and its amazing the amount of noise you hear from the hall and other rooms (I could hear the people next door taking a... more
Night without sleep
My sister and I stayed at Hotel Giorgione from May 2-14, 2004. We had a superiior twin room on the top floor (3rd). My adult son had a single on the first floor. On the night of May 8th, the owner's daughter held her wedding dinner in the public rooms on the ground floor. At midnight the music from the party amplifed and our room almost shook. After an hour, I dressed and went down to the reception desk to ask if this was going on all night. Of course, the clerk did not know. (by the way, tables/chairs for wedding guests left only a... more
Good value great location
If you are thinking staying here I would recommend booking directly with the hotel, we had a very good deal for a junior suite with tickets to a fabulous art exhibition which turned out to be cheaper than many Internet deals I had searched. Good location, quiet but very close to all amenities. Also the Hotel restaurant served one of the best meals we had during our time in Venice, lovely staff all with excellent spoken english. On the downside breakfast was not quite as lavish or as good as I had been ked to believe and afternoon... more
Mostly a good experience but some complaints
My husband, 16-year old daugher, and I just spent 3 nights at the Giorgione. The place is charming with a very nice lobby and garden patio where you can have afternoon tea or cafe. The location is also excellent and we found the staff to be very friendly and fluent in English. The breakfast was fine for us. However, what everyone said about the water pressure is right ---it's very low and furthermore there was no hot water to shower with in the later afternoon, though it was plentiful in the morning. We had a room for three with a... more
This was supposed to be great, but the reality is quite different
First of all I realize that users of TripAdvisor are never certain where the reviewer writing these reviews is "coming from." So let me say this: I am a banker with a large commericial bank in NYC (one that is a household name), I have never written a review on this web site before (although I did use TripAdvisor quite extensively on a recent European trip), and I am used to staying in four star hotels when I travel---to be clear about this, I mean that when I pay for a trip I do not stay at the Four Seasons but neither will I stay at a... more
Pay in advance???
read all the great reviews and plan to go to the giorgione in July. booked the hotel thru our agent and a confirmation was returned saying we would be charged now in full even though we used our amex. card. we can still cancel but I don't think i should float my $$ UNTIL JULY. WE MIGHT RECONSIDER AND STAY ELSEWHERE. WENT LAST SUMMER TO ITALY AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM.
