Very nice hotel
We have spent almost two weeks at this hotel from November 11 through November 25, 2005,and greatly enjoyed its amenities, friendly athmosphere, its great location and quality of food at the hotel's restaurant.
Great location, but a diasppointing hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in Oct 05 as part of a long weekend holiday break. While we were very pleased with the location - so close to a waterbus stop and very near St Mark's square, the bedroom(s) and breakfasts were disapponting. The first night's room was so small( "designed" for a single bed but with a double bed squeezd in. Access to the bed was only possible via the end, not the side. There were no bedside lights and you could not stand up straight in the shower), that we had to ask to be moved. This was... more
Venice Views
Stayed here with friends for 4 nights.Combination of old palaces. Direct access for water taxis. Lagoon view extra but worth it with view of Doges Palace and the Campanile as well as the laundry, builders, milkmans boats. Great fun. Room smallish and a little old fashioned but spotless, well maintained and very comfortable. Good breakfast can be eaten in courtyard in summer. Lovely shaded rose garden and roof terrace for sunshine and views.Evening meal very good
Lovely hotel
We stayed at the Gabrielli for my partner's 40th birthday. From the moment I booked the room the staff were helpful in providing champagne and chocolates in the room. We payed the supplement for a lagoon view room and it was well worth it, the views are amazing. Rooms with lagoon view are large and very quiet, we never heard another guest throughout our stay. Breakfast was very extensive and served in the lovely garden. The Gabrielli has a roof top terrrace with wonderful views across the lagoon and islands. We would definately stay again.... more
Lovely Hotel!
I stayed at this lovely hotel with my husband and our 1-year old baby. We got a nice room, with a magnificent view of the lagoon. Its location is perfect.. just 200 mts from Saint Mark's Square, and there is an "Alilaguna" ("water-bus") stop just 20 mts from the hotel, which turned out to be very convenient. The restaurant's menu is great. Breakfast was excellent, with fruit salad, yoghurt, cereals, ham, eggs, croissants, cake!!! The room was simple but very clean! And a babycot was provided free of charge. I would definitely recommend this... more
Beautiful place to stay
We have just returned from 5 days in this hotel, I cannot praise it highly enough. The owners are very friendly and professional. Lovely old building - sympathetically modernised, we paid a little extra for a lagoon view - and what a view!! The room was large, immaculately clean and full of antique furniture - no MFI here! The restaurant was lovely and the menu was varied and priced at a lot less than a lot of the surrounding restaurants. The service was impeccable - nothing was too much trouble, and it was helpful to us that there was... more
Terribly disappointed, I do NOT recommend.
This hotel put a dark spot on an overall wonderful trip. The vent and the area around for the heat/ac was black with dirt and mildew, and there were dustballs blowing around on the floor. The room I had, and the others I saw were ugly, with abused furniture. The light fixtures were missing parts, and should have been replaced long ago. Some staff were very friendly and helpful, others not. Asked to chage our room because it was unacceptble, only to be shown a room that was worse. We knew as soon as we came up to the uncleaned glass... more
There are much better hotels for better price
Don't be fooled by the internet photos of this hotel. The beds are the most uncomfortable in any hotel I have ever been in. The mattress is harder than the floor. The pillows are hard. This is an old hotel that gives discounts to travel groups. No charm. We found many other hotels with charm, grace, and cleaner, for less than the price of this hotel. Even the Best Western hotel in Venice is better. But there are smaller hotels which are fantastic in Venice.
Don't waste your money
This hotel is absolutely awful. What a dissapointment. The bathroom in our room was gross. Black mold everwhere, corroded fixtures. The mattress in my college dorm room 20 years ago was better than the one provided here - seriously. Even the furnishings and fabrics in the lobby are sadly worn down and faded. One of the concierges was laughably rude and pompous. Breakfast was terrible. This hotel was the one significant blemish on an otherwise wonderful trip.
Faded Grande Dame
We just returned from Venice where we stayed at the Gabrielli Sandwirth. This is not a 4 star hotel. It is dirty and run down. The mattresses are sagging, the towels are threadbare, and they didn't replace used linen on a daily basis, unless specifically requested. There are much better hotels for the price out there. When we asked to speak to management she avoided us. I would avoid staying here.
