The Hotel is in a great location and the room we had was excellent - it had a Fenice carving on the wall. Overall the hotel was very efficient, but our one complaint was that the included breakfast was not very substantial and supplements were charged if guests wanted to... more

Dec 2007, Ms Funnell

We stayed at the Duodo Palace in November 2007 for two nights on B&B basis. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Location, only a 10 minute walk from St Marks Square, right by the canal, so convenient should you choose to book a taxi. The room we had (501) was... more

A real Venetian Palace
This hotel provides the perfect introduction to Venice, and we echo the recent complimentary reviews, and can add that from the fourth floor there are rooftop views as well as the canal to see. The location is so peaceful (except when the singing gondoliers pass by!) and yet it is so close to the popular areas. There is a bar with a dedicated breakfast room alongside that provides a good continental buffet breakfast with optional extras. If you arrive on foot and get lost, just ask for directions to the Fenice Theatre and from there follow the hotel direction sign at the north east corner of the square.
Excellant Hotel in a fantastice position
Hotel was in an excellant position just by La Fenice Theatre very accessible to San Marco square and the Rialto Bridge. Ask for room 106/206/306 they all look out over a small canal so you can watch the boats go past. Drinks in the bar are very reasonable in fact were cheaper than other bars that we had used. Reception can order you a water taxi to pick up from here but this will cost about 80 Euros to either the station or Plazza De Roma for the bus service. Hotel does not have a restaurant but you are able to get a continental breakfast in the morning. Rooms are nicely furnished with TV/minibar and bathroom has free shampoo/toothbrushes/tissues etc. My hairdryer was OK if not a little strange looking but my friends in her room did not work very well. Staff were very helpful and polite. Would definately recommend Venice and this hotel to all my friends. Will be going back!
Great Hotel
We spent 3+ days at this hotel recently and it was terrific. Our room was quite nice and large (3rd floor) and the staff was very helpful. The location couldn't have been better. Finding it the first time was a bit of a challenge, mostly because the map on their website had a wrong street name, but it really was an easy walk, even with luggage. I don't see the need for a water taxi. We saw but didn't have any encounters with the infamous waiter. Luckily, there was a second one on hand to help and he was very accommodating. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this hotel and try to get a 3rd floor room.
would use again
Very difficult to find as are most hotels in Venice, but an excellant location. very quiet at night and spotlessly clean. No tea/ coffee in room and take a hair drier, the one in bathroom is very poor. Lashings of hot water in a splendid bathroom with towels, toothbrushes, shampoos etc. The room was too hot and the air conditioning could not cope, opening the window solved the heat problem but let in the smell from the canals. We were on the 4th floor and just had chimmney top views. Breakfast was basic but ample, muesli, tea/coffee, croissents, jams and juices. Staff on reception were "buisness like" and helpful, the infamous head waiter was not a problem. What was a problem is Venice itself, it is dirty, smelly and very very expensive with most of the locals trying and succeding to rip you off. Oh and please look out for the dog dirt. or better still go to Prague !!
very nice hotel in good spot
Had bit of difficulty in finding hotel when got of airport water bus but found it after about 15 minutes walk. The room was nice and clean with a nice marble bathroom. The breakfast was the usual continental breakfast and adequate. The staff on reception were helpful and the hotel is in a very nice quiet position near the fenice theatre. Loved Venice, be prepared to walk.
Great location
Four of us stayed at the Duodo over Easter for 7 nights and we all enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, near to the main sights but very quiet at night. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable....we were on the fourth floor overlooking some picturesque rooftops. We found all the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast could possibly be improved but was adequate.
Just okay too
I felt the same way as others did about this hotel. Great location (once you find it) making a water taxi from the train or airport worth evey penny. The room was small and stuffy and had too much furniture to accomodate our bags (we were in 201). Only paid $159 through a 3rd party web service. I found the hotel's web site to have no information at all! The elevator did not go to our floor so we need stairs either way. The breakfast was not much- cereal and rolls and the famous rude waiter really needs to go. It amazes me that they don't read these reviews although when they sent me an evaluation - I sent the link! I knew not to take anyone's boat to Murano as that is how it works all over Venice from any hotel. Be smart and take public transportation. All and all- moderate price, great location, so so breakfast and I would call it 3 star at best certainly not 4!
Terrible Customer Service
Aside from the slight smell in the room, the hotel itself is OK. Unfortunately, we had some problems with some of the staff. First of all, I wanted to check out Burano, one of the oldest and most picturesque settlements in Venice. So I asked the front desk the best way to get there. The man on duty said we should go to Murano first, by way of their "complimentary" water taxi service, see some glass-blowing, and then it was easy to get to Burano from there. So we went to Murano and ended up buying a couple of things. We later found out that we paid way too much for the items we bought; AND THAT THE HOTEL GETS A CUT OF WHAT YOU SPEND IN MURANO for sending guests there. (And we didn't even have time to see Burano, as I had originally planned - UGH!). When we approached the man at the front desk to tell him we were disappointed that the hotel sent us into what we now know is a well-known tourist trap, he (was not wearing a name tag) refused to give us his name and said to us that the hotel "didn't force us to buy anything in Murano". While that is true, it really left a bad taste in our mouths. We also asked to speak to the manager because of the rude behavior of his staff member, the manager (via cell phone) laughed at my husband and said "what, did you end up spending double the price?" (chuckle, chuckle), and also refused to give us his name. Great customer service, huh? I'm sure the Duodo Palace isn't the only hotel that does this sort of thing, but we would never stay there again and do not recommend doing business with them. Who knows what else they're up to?
Great value for money
Myself and my partner stayed at this hotel from 21-25 March and we had a great time. The hotel is only 5-10 mins walk from St Marks Square. We had a standard room which was a bit small but dont forget you do not go to venice to stay all day in the room. It had a lovely marbled bathroom. The baths are small and the hairdryer could have been more powerfull but otherwise excellent. In other reviews of this hotel there is mention of the head waiter being rude. Unfortunatly he is. He has a little bit of hair on his chin that he thinks makes him look cool but beleive me it does not. I found him talking to himself on a few occasions. There are two brothers working there who were lovely and polite and looked after us very well. So dont let one waiter put you off. The breakfasts were nice. The reception staff were v.helpful and polite. We arrived by water taxi which we highly reccomend. It costs 80 euros but is worth it. We stayed on a floor by ourselves which was nice and at night it was very quite as you are away from the hustle and bustle. All in all we had value for money. We booked with midashotels and got a great deal. We would stay at this hotel again if we go back to venice.
very nice
very nice hotel. I read that the waiter in the breakfast room was rude and I did not experience him myself, my freinds did and they said he was gruff. Other than that we had a great stay in a excellent room at the top of the hotel. Our room and our freind's room were quite spacious with views of the city. The service was professional, not rude at all, but not necessarily overly freindly either.
