We live on island and went here just for a two night stay-thank goodness! The up sides are that the hotel looks very clean and well presented from the outside, this is also true of the reception area and the outdoor pools are lovely. However, that is where the good points stop. The indoor pool was 2* with a dirty plaster on the side that sat there for the duration of our stay. Our room was poorly cleaned, with make-up on the walls and the bedding we were given needed throwing away, our child wore two layers of pyjamas as i refused to put the blanket near him. Two pillows for two adults and 1 child are not adequate! We could not believe that a 4* hotel did not provide tea and coffee making facilities in the room. With a so called 4* hotel you expect certain things, such as a way to safely store baby milk and the fact that we had to hide our childs milk and yoghurt incase the maid came and saw it in the fridge made things difficult. (charge of 2.50euro per day for fridge)There was a large selection at breakfast however we found it strange that you had to get hot drinks yourself. The evening meal was terrible, serving 'themed food' which was interesting to say the least, food was poorly cooked and was the cheapest possible. This is definately not a family hotel. Although some staff were friendly towards us, 90% of the guests were 'shocked' that a child under 2 should be in a hotel! The average age of the guests was approximately 65 and even though our child was well behaved and was either asleep or going to sleep, we did not feel welcome at evening meals. There was nothing for us to do in the hotel, no daily activities, the childrens play area was unusable and what wasn't broken was filthy. Would definately not recommed this to anyone.

We had no complaints about this hotel. The rooms were very good (beds a trifle hard), dining room (buffet) very good. Three storeys, two lifts. Town centre about ten minutes walking away, or good bus service. Would recommend hiring a car (£200 for nine days). Weather can be variable in February but ours was quite good.

We were looking forward after a year of hard work to be able to have a lovely relaxing holiday. The only relaxing bit was the swimming pool which was great, as for the rest then forget it, the manners of the waiters at breakfast and dinner left a lot to be desired, one waiter at breakfast started to slam about on our table because we dared ask for it to be cleaned and have fresh cutlery, the same waiter served our table at dinner and almost knocked a glass of wine over my mother by grabbing it over her head, just because we told him that the glass of wine was dry and we had asked for sweet. The rooms were basic, mould round the bath, no tea making facilities, rooms were checked unexpectidly by housekeeper to make sure we didnt have anything in there we shouldnt have had, you would be charged if you put your own water in the fridge, corridors dark and depressing.
We had no privacy on the balcony, everyone above, below and next door could see you. Our room was on a busy road and we were woke up at 7am by the refuse collectors banging about and the sound of the demolition of a building at the end of the road, this was going on everyday.
At weekends we were banned from the dining room because the hotel hired out for local weddings and we had to use the breakfast area.
We will not recommend this hotel to anyone, we were not the only guests to complain, there were quite a few people who were not satisfied after the first few days.

LOCATION: well situated for most amenities both in town and all around the hotel. Just outside main centre so restaurant and bar prices lower and with a good selection to choose from. Short, level walk to shops and harbour etc. Don't waste money booking sea view - new build beginning to block the views.
PUBLIC AREAS: Reception and lounge areas clean and very spacious, several places to sit in comfort and in private. 2 Internet PCs (payable) and a small and expensive shop. Bar on small side but comfortable. Restaurants large and fairly spacious, breakfasts can be taken on outside patio if desired, lunch / dinner meals are taken in main restaurant which is not large enough for one sitting but not a problem. Pools and extensive grounds excellent but outside bar on pricy side.
PPRIVATE AREAS - bedroom: reasonable size sleeping and bathroom areas. contains desk and seating, hairdryer, tv and for extra charge fridge and safe.Plastic patio furniture on balcony. Only gripes are bed not as comfortable as would like and lighting a little weak.
STAFF: Very hard working, friendly and helpful. Can't really fault the ones we met. Bedroom cleaned daily to a good standard, waiters very efficient
FOOD: Breakfasts had an excellent buffet choice, cereals, continental, fruit, sausage, bacon etc. Something for everyone, and food replenished regularly. Buffet Dinner worth paying for within package (expensive if pay when get there) - lots of choice and good quality. Different theme each night but 'safe' (meat and veg and roast potatoes) choices always available.
ENTERTAINMENT: Don't set your expectations very high and you won't be disappointed. Amateurish and cheesy but OK if keep tongue in cheek. Better entertainment just outside of the hotel - try Evis pub just next door - Blues Brothers and Elvis nights hilarious.
OTHER: Watch out for scratch card bandits in harbour - just a scam don't engage them at all. Beaches each one is different - have to travel for best ones Coral Bay ok (try one behibnd Corallia Bay hotel, or Vardas Restaurant). Lara beach great if want peace and quiet but really need 4x4 to get there comfortably. Suggest Pissuri beach is one of best in area. If want glass bottom boat Dinos seems best organised and most informative. Very trustworthy - refunded our money no question when sea too choppy.
Loads of car rental places - everywhere you walk. We used paphorentals - see their website. Very helpful and reasonable prices, good vehicles.

My wife and I stayed at the Aloe from 24th Sept to 1st October. It is rates as a 4 star by Thomas Cook. We found the ground floor public areas to be 4 star but the bedroom was 3 star at best. The corridors and bedrooms were poorly lit. The beds are hard and the pillows are like bricks.
Both breakfgast and Dinner was buffet style. However the quality was good and the 'themed' nights presented a variety of food each evening. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Apart from the problems outlined above we found the stay at the Aloe to be very pleasant.

We have been taking our annual hol at the Aloe for the last 9 or 10 years absolutely no probs with the service or the food.
Admitted the bar entertainment is cheesy
Band B is the best option
Always replace your Mini Bar contents before morning inspection with the same brand otherwise you will get caught out. And its expensive.
Hide contraband (your own booze) in the wardrobe.
Great place overall,if it was on the other side of the road it would be a 5 star !!

The Aloe Hotel was a clean and friendly hotel. The two rooms which our family stayed in were clean and to a normal standard. The hotels breakfast had a wide choice from a cooked English breakfast to fresh fruit and continental breakfast. There was always plenty of tables for all the guest no matter what time we went down for breakfast.
The pool area is kept clean and tidy apart from some of the parasols were hard to put up. Towels for the sunbeds are provided by the hotel which can be collected after 9. However this doesnt stop many people reserving sunbeds, even though it states you shouldn't. This didnt prove to be a problem as there was always pleanty of sunbed when we came down after 9.
The resort of Paphos is very comercialised with the McDonald, Debenhams, Peacocks, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, KFC etc. Which didnt prove popular with my family. The resort doesnt have many beaches and most of them have been purchased by a hotel. However a full variety of water sports are available.
The nightlife in Pahos caters for everyone, as there is a busy bar street fot the young ones which has promotions on cocktails (which are fully of paint stripping spirits), Karoke and fun bars for the familys and chilled out bars near the habour for the older generation. However the drinks prices are on average what you would pay in the Uk (Local beer £2.20-£2.60 a pint, Imported bottled beer £3-£5, cocktails £3-£5 and imported spirits £4+ and higher prices in the restaurants).
However during the day some of the restaurants near the habour put the local large beers on special for about £1.20 a pint. But the down side to this offer is if you purchase any other drinks such as water or soft drinks for the children you are charged alot more than you would expect.
The are a variety of restaurants in paphos ranging from local Greek food, to mexican, chinese, indian, Italian and Fish. However the prices in most of the restaurants are very expensive with things such as a plain pizza costing 9 euro which is about £7. However near the Aloe hotel there is a Bar that serves food called White Harts which is reasonable and the portions of food are good.
If you like a drink and snack during the day dont purchase food from round the pool area as the prices is very expensive. However there is a little bar over the back of the Hotel which serves greats snacks such as sandwiches, burger, pizzas etc. for reasonable prices. The same goes for buying water round the pool area a large bottle cost about £2 where as if you go to the supper markets it cost alot less.
The hotel charges for you to use the fridge in your room at £1.50 a day. The way our family combated this idea was to put the drinks in over night and take them out when we went for breakfast and keep them in a cooling bag all day. This then helped to keep them chilled. There is a mini bar in the room but i wouldnt recomend to use it as the prices are high rate for small bottle of spirit.
While on our holiday we went to visit the North of the island as we have some family living there. This is by far the better part of the island. The views are more picturess and the people are more friendly. Also the value for money is far better. The only hassel is crossing the boarders from the south to the north.
The north is the Turkish part of the island and in my opinion they have the best part of the island. It has clean sandy beaches, querky little old towns with old fashioned bars and restaurants. Well worth a visit.

Hotel no way near a 4 star hotel - best 2 star. Room smelt foisty (watch out room 185) air con poor - beds hard.
Breakfast is poor and not worth the extra money. Get up early - you will queue for a table after 9am.
Reserve your sunbed early -
Pool bar staff reminded us of a typical Fawlty Towers - me no understand english.
Corkage in room high if you use there room fridge.
Tea for 2 the best restauranrtby far - over looks the harbour - fantastic !!
If you get on a last minute deal not bad value - if you pay full brochure price - not worth it ...
Not much for the kids to do - except swim !!

me and my girlfreind spent a week at this hotel at the start of july 2008, altouggh all the bad reviews a came across on this hotel i personaly beleive its a very nice hotel and the only downside was that the rooms could do with a refurb, the food was lovely and selection was great with a different selection every evening! the pool and bar area was ideal although the bar was pretty expensive, as a summer holiday to just chill and relax, we couldnt knock it

my daughter & friend came on holiday to the hotel aloe in may 2008.
from the entrance of the hotel it looked quite nice, so they thought great.
but when they were taken there room, it was quite a different story they walked down these half lit corriders with half the lighting out which looked and felt very dark and very uninviting. there room was very basic and the decor very dated with orange walls.
there mattress was as thin as a biscuit also their pillows, and top cover to their beds was very well worn, certainly not what they are used to.
they spent little time in the hotel as their breakfast waitress was not very helpful, when they asked for coffee she brought it but looked as if it was too much trouble, and banged it down on the table. i suppose when they see young people they may treat them different to the older generation who stay at this hotel.
there flight left in the early hrs and when they booked out and paid any mini bar bills the man at the reception asked if they had anything else out of the mini bar that night, and the reply was no. but after the girls handed their key to him, he called the security man over and gave their key, he returned a few mins later, and he clarified there had not been anything taken.
how do you think these girls felt? they didnt even get a goodbye or a mention of a safe journey from reception when they left, its certainly a good job we were not there at the time as the management would certainly have heard from us this is why i am writing these comments now.
the brochures you see for the hotel look great, but they certainly dont show the true side to this hotel ,it seriously needs upgrading inside.
so if you are young please do not use this hotel, as you will be very disappointed like my family.

The Aloe Hotel is one of the larger hotel complexes on the coastline that runs up to Paphos harbour. It boasts some 200 Nr. plus rooms (we’ll come back to that one).
The hotel is great! It’s clean, and it has everything you could ask for. A lovely marbled floor air conditioned reception and lounge area. Friendly staff. A separate air conditioned lounge with bar, separate dining area and restaurant, an ‘al fresco’ dining area, A huge multi-feature pool with adjoining drinks and snack bar (watch out for the resident scuba diving school who invade the pool every afternoon between about 2.00pm to 4.00pm, which can be a bit of a pain), and great air conditioned rooms.
WE were staying B&B and the selection of breakfast food which is served between 7.00am and 10.30am was outstanding, although the restaurant did get very crowded after about 9.30 and reminded me of a scene from a Butlins holiday camp.
So what’s the downside? Well just a couple really. Firstly, because the hotel is so big, there is an army of chambermaids and cleaners that are on the go from 9.00am till 6.00pm in the evening. On a couple of occasions we left the cool sanctuary of our room around 9.00am only to return about 4.00pm to find that it was still waiting to be cleaned which meant you felt that you had to vacate the room until the cleaners had been. Beware the mini-bar!! The bar is great, all the usual suspects: bottles of water, cans of beer, spirit miniatures, etc. However, there is a warning to let you know that you will be charged 1.5 Euros ‘corkage’ for each item that you purchase outside of the hotel and store in the fridge! I know what you’re thinking: how do they know? Well, they check the darn thing morning noon and night! And leave the appropriate bill on the dresser, which must be settled before you check out.
Changing Traveller’s cheques? Be warned that the hotel will charge you 4.5% commission for the pleasure, which seems a bit steep until you discover that everywhere else charges 10%! The signs that say ‘No Commission’ at the local stores actually refer to the changing of Sterling to Euros, and not Traveller’s Cheques. So if you can.. Take cash or use a local ATM.
One of the drawbacks of any flourishing resort is that you have to make allowances for someone to build on it first. And at the moment, Paphos is in full swing construction mode. The beach that was supposed to be accessible opposite the hotel was cordoned off by a couple of hundred metres of builder’s hoardings, scaffolding, cranes, jack hammers, etc. It reminded me very much of my last trip to Dubai, so if you can’t put up with the sound of builders… this is not a place for you.
When built however, the new venues climbing out of the ground are purpose built with the Brits in mind. There’s the ‘Red Lion Pub’ the ‘Six Bells’ The ‘Splash Karaoke Bar’ ‘The Crocodile Pub’ and so it goes on. A few minutes along from the hotel towards the harbour and you hit ‘Bar Street’ which surprisingly enough is full of… English Bars! And is lit up like a poor man’s Las Vegas on a bad day. It’s just all very English. This means that you can get any of your drinks that you might get at home here in the land of the sun. Talking of which, it was about 36 Degrees every day with no signs of letting up which, if you’re a sun worshiper, is great, but if you require to stay in the shade, then it’s English bars all the way.
The harbour is a busy gathering place for locals and tourists alike. From here you can take the excursions, the Glass-bottom boat trips, the ‘Ninja’ boat’ (bumpy speedboat), and all the other trips that will take you around the coastline to the many historical sites that include the famous burial tombs of the kings, and the Mosaic houses. Apart from these enticing activities, there’s not a great deal to see unless you hire a car or bike and take off out of town. The beaches are really little more than cleared areas of shingle populated by sun beds which cost about £5/Day.
As you will appreciate at the moment, the Euro is not performing very well against the English pound (about 1.2 is average), which means that Cyprus being on the higher end of the pricing scale can give you a nasty shock when dining out. My wife and I are Vegetarians, which you would think should be OK. On average, Egg and Chips costs around £10.00 each with a salad sandwich coming in at around £7.50! A pint of Strongbow and An Ouzo and Sprite was about £8.50 which I thought was a bit much.
Last, but by no means least, beware the scratch-card bandits! Everywhere you walk (and I mean literally everywhere), you are stopped by these people (mostly English) who offer you the chance to ‘win big’ at ‘no cost’ on their scratch cards. Of course, everybody wins! And then you are invited to a local hotel where you are informed that it will take 90 minutes to process your prize. This is, as you’ve probably guessed, a time-share scam. So you’ll find yourself politely refusing at first. However, when the same touts on the same road stop you day after day, the novelty seems to wear off, and along with it, your patience. So just ignore them from day one, and hopefully, they’ll leave you alone.
And now those all important scores:
Weather: 10/10
Hotel: 9/10
Activities: 9/10
Food: 10/10
Value For Money: 6/10
Would we go back? …. Let’s put it this way: It’ll be great when it’s finished!
Enjoy!

This hotel is resonably clean. The staff are helpful and friendly.Breakfast poor, bacon either under cooked or over, omelett like egg custard.Evening meal was better. Sometimes the meals were served in the smaller resturant. this resulted in queeing as if for school dinners They even charge 2.5 euros a day to use the minibar.I felt I was watching the program waiting for god,as it was like being in an old peoples home.Talk about the blue rinse brigade.Children were not welcome.I travelled with my very well behaved grandson,[this is not me looking through rose tinted glasses as every one who meets him will tell you this]who was told "we do not do that in this hotel".There is a small childrens play area. After room being cleaned one day cleaners left door wide open. The swimming pools are good. However on the day of our return one of the swimming pools had scum on it We were told there was a full entertainment programm.Karookee one night,Jim Reeves and the like songs.Cypriot dancing cancelled because the hotel too busy.Entertainment geared for the old at heart.
