Beautiful Hotel
This hotel was excellent, large by European standards, with a clean bathrrom, excellent continental breakfast and great staff. The location is also ideal, it overlooks the water, the vaporetto stop is a few steps away, and the San Marco Piazza is a 5 minute walk.
Magnifica
Worth every penny for all the comfort and convenience. I stayed there for two nights prior to embarking on a cruise and never experienced any problems. Water taxi service was efficent and convenient. Check-in smooth and timely. Room was gorgeous with all the comforts. Especially nice experience after a long overseas journey. Food was expensive, but then so is most everything else in Venice. And well, the view from the rooftop terrace was amazing at any time of day. Concierge service hospitable and accurate. In a nutshell, I would... more
5-stars? Not quite Starwood.
Having stayed at dozens of fine Starwood Hotels over the years, I'd have to say the Hotel Danieli was the biggest dissapointment of them all. Yes, its a beautiful hotel, with stunning historical charm and probably the best location in all of Venice. You are within a stone's throw of Plaza San Marco, and as you gaze out of your window at the throngs of tourists down below, they will stare at you and wonder how you got so lucky to be staying at such a fine hotel in the heart of Venice. However, inside the hotel, the charm quickly wears off.... more
Very overpriced but it has its redeeming features
The Danieli is probably the best hotel in Venice but it is horribly overpriced (over $1000 euro a night for a reasonably large room (not even a suite) with a grand canal view). The service is less than impeccable and the concierge desk seems to recommend pretty crappy places (stay away from the Carpaccio, its a well dressed hole in the wall with mediocre food and even worse service). Their transfer service to the airport is the best money you'll spend in Italy. I understand that king size bed in Italy generally means 2 twins... more
Lumpy Bed
We stayed here for in June. The hotel is beautiful. Our only complaint was that the bed and pillows were lumpy. The view from the resteraunt is amazing I could have sat up there all day. The room we had was very large but the view which was of the building next to us made the room seem dark. Next time I'd get a room with a view looking over the Grand Canal.
Thoughts on the Danieli
In late April the weather in Venice was pretty good. The Danieli is in what was once a palace and is an older building but very beautiful. The rooms were large and well appointed and the bathrooms large also with heated towel racks; it could get a little warm in there. The rooms were spotless. After staying in other 5star hotels, i thought the breakfast buffet was lacking and greatly overpriced. However, all of Venice is pricey in the better restaurants9much more so than here in the states. I also thought the room rates were way... more
A magnificent hotel
My wife and I had really been looking forward to staying at this hotel especially since it was a 5-star hotel and we were using Starwood points for our stay. However, upon our arrival, we were informed that the hotel staff would likely be on strike for a couple of days during our stay. They offered to move up to another Starwood property be we elected to stay as it didn't seem that the strike would mainly impact restaurants and room service and we didn't plan on using those services anyway. The staff then gave us a wonderful upgraded room... more
5 stelle gran lusso - a 'simple' B&B will do better, i presume
stayed for 2 nights at hotel danieli during carneval in february 2004 - service was so-so ('cosi-cosi') / room in the old building - which took 3 e-mail ping-pong negotiations - was very nice with lagoon view (but as everything in venice) totally overpriced (> 600 euro a night) - personnel entered room while we were nappingqueueing to get seated for a breakfast of 50 euro!!! is not 'the way' to start the day eitherrecommended restaurants by the staff (eg. 'carpaccio') far too expensive - simple food (my girl-friend's mother cooks daily) -... more
Cool place
Stayed here two nights in March and was really impressed. Has old world charm with all the modern conveniences and a helpful staff.
WOW!!!!
This hotel was fabulous and matched all of our needs. I came with a HUGE family of 7, 5 kids and 2 adults with the youngest kid being just 5. Not knowing Italy, the concierge helped us and had patience with our family. This hotel is amazing and deserves ever good word of compliments!
