Excellent Hotel
The staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations - they remembered my room number every time I went back for my key - the rooms are excellent and clean - you are given slippers to wear and your bed is changed, then turned down every night with a chocolate on your pillow. Mini bar is within your room. There is a small bar - that is expensive - the prices on the menu/list were not charged, add a euro extra for each item. Breakfast is a cold buffet - croissants, bread, cake, fruit, prunes, yoghurts, crackers, pate,... more
superb !
Fantastic hotel one minute from san marco sq. wow factor rooms, (ours ,room 104 , had a balcony overlooking bridge of sighs, fabric wallpaper, paper slippers, beds turned down in evening and chocolates AND room clean and tidied again., huge room with queen bed and a chairs and chaise longue. marble bathroom) lovely fresh buffet breakfast in lovely surroundings. Excellent service and lovely freindly staff. cost us £270 for 3 nights b&b for 2. 13.01.05 -16.1.05. Could almost be a 5 *
Ignore the bad reviews!
Having just stayed for 4 nights here and read some of your negative reviews we were slightly apprehensive - but it was superb. The room, staff, breakfast, position were far above expectation. I can only assume that those who have offered negative reviews somehow got off to a bad start at some point - rude staff? Perhaps you were rude first, did you attempt any Italian at all? Small rooms? - well we could have got a snooker (pool) table in ours, you have to remember Venice is using buildings 400 to 500 years old and creating big rooms is... more
Colombina was very nice!
We stayed at the Colombina for two nights -- 10/21 and 10/22, 2004. The location was great -- easy access from the airport via boat to Colombina's private landing and a very short walk to shopping, restaurants and San Marco. Also, it was an easy walk to the Rialto Bridge and the morning Fish/Vegetable Market. The room was nicely furnished (sage green and gold brocade wallpaper, coordinating drapes, terrazzo floor and Venetian glass chandelier) and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was all marble complete with hairdryer and... more
simply perfect
you know when you book a nice hotel, arrive, open the door to your room and think - 'yuk - so disappointing' - that was the exact opposite of the experience I had at this hotel which I had booked over the internet. The hotel was simply lovely - secluded in a side street but literally seconds from St Marks Square - our room had a view of the Bridge of Sighs, marble floors, brocade wallpaper and a huge chandalier - so very indulgent. The hotel staff were extremely polite, efficient and helpful in providing maps, suggested itineries and... more
Get the suite!
When we arrived at the Colombina we discovered that American Express had neglected to make our reservation there (that we had already paid for) and had left us a fax to go to another hotel. As anyone who has traveled to Venice knows, just getting from the train station to our hotel with our bags was a chore, and we did not relish the idea of trying to find a different hotel. The front desk staff was extremely accomodating. They were sold out of double rooms, but they offered us the suite for a nominal charge. Much to our surprise, the... more
Disappointing
We've just returned from a week at the Hotel Colombina and while the location was fantastic and the breakfast delicious, we were extremely disappointed with both the staff and rooms at this hotel. Rooms were tiny with not enough cupboard space to hang up clothes and the staff were the rudest we encountered on our 4 week trip across Europe. Our room was also not made up until 3pm each day. Better value 4 star hotels exist in Venice.
Expensive - Hard Sales
The guide book price was from 180 - 300 euros per night for a room. It cost me 420 euros per night! The small bag of potato crisps cost 2.50 euros. Plus they tried to offer a 'free glass factory tour' which we had heard was a real hard sale trip where pressure sales techniques are used. Beautiful hotel with a great location - shame about the huge price increase for last minute bookings.
Nice Hotel/Great Value
I started my trip to Venice at the Colombina and ended it at Dei Dogi (a significantly more expensive luxury hotel) and my preference was for Colombina. The staff is incredibly sweet and helpful, and while the rooms aren't enormous, the location is great, the hotel is quiet, and the rooms are charming and well kept. Also, you can't beat the breakfast. Really, I strongly recommend it. It's a terrific--if not amazing--value.
Boutique hotel beauty!
I have stayed at the Colombina every year since it opened, often for 10 days to 2 weeks at a time. I LOVE this hotel! The staff is wonderful, the rooms comfortable and beautifully decorated with good sized bathrooms. Room size varies throughout the hotel as is common in Europe when hotels are rebuilt from existing palaces or ancient structures. I have had large rooms and small rooms but all have been extremely comfortable and well maintained. The buffet breakfast has good selections and is restocked frequently. The tiny bar has a courteous... more
