Ca D Oro Hotel reviews

10 / 10
Sep 2008, naterbox

We spent 5 glorious days exploring Venice. The hotel is close to the Rialto Bridge, and is close to all the main attractions. Breakfast was a cold buffet, not a very extensive choice, but certainly plenty of food. All the staff we spoke to spoke English, and were... more

Perfect Hotel
Excellent location. Found directions on the internet before we went, and easily found it when we arrived. Beautiful room. It felt like something special, with a chandalier and old wooden furniture. Clean and spacious. Staff. All helpful and friendly with personal suggestions of where to go, what to see.
This hotel should loose a star!
Caution - this is not a good bet! We arrived after dark with our luggage, got lost and wandered hopelessly near tears for two hours. We called the hotel but they were unable to provide directions and offered no help other than to say "sorry". The room was totally disappointing - rather dreary and plain with no redeeming value, basically what I'd expect from a 2 star hotel. The view was of a wall, the tiniest bathroom with miniscule corner shower. The room was freezing cold, when we complained we were told they were not allowed to turn... more
Be Very Careful
I’ll start with the positive: great location, nice hotel. However, I would not stay there again because of what happened to us upon check-in. Since it was our honeymoon, we uncharacteristically sprung for the "superior room with canal view" which had a fairly high rate – we had booked online and had a confirmation printout with the rate on it. Upon arrival, we were shown to a very small room facing a wall for which they were going to attempt to charge us the high superior room rate saying, "all of our rooms are the same". I had to... more
Excellent
Excellent for a modest hotel - very clean. Close to everything, the only disadvantage is that does not have a lift and If you are traveling with to much luggage it can be a little be difficult. The room had very good air conditioning. Breakfast it's ok compared to another places (more than continental breakfast). We would definitely stay here again.
Worth considering...but be prepared!
We stayed 3 nights from Monday August 8th and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Venice. The Hotel Ca d`Oro was ultra clean and tidy and everything worked..... Hairdryer, airconditioning, hot shower etc. The decor and fitments were excellent with very attractive Morano glass chandeliers throughout...plus the tiled bathrooms of which they seem so proud! The staff were helpful overall but we felt that a little more thought could have gone into the provision of services. There was no in-room coffee making facility, no mini-bar or... more
Venice the city of romance
Having chosen this hotel from research on the internet and having read the reviews on this site, I thought I'd post my own. I enquired about the room on line and got a quick response telling me about availability and prices. Once confirmed that was it. The hotel room was lovely, it over looked the canal, and was very clean as was the bathroom. The room had very good air conditioning and was tastefully decorated. Although breakfast was basic, it did the trick and the staff were very friendly. My only criticsm was that we... more
Above average for a modest hotel
We just returned from a trip to Italy which included a stay at Hotel Ca'd'oro. The hotel is off the beaten path but still convienent to restaurants, shops, bancomats, exchange counters, and the water buses. It was nothing special but it was quaint, clean, friendly, seemed newly redone and had views of the canal. If you are looking for a reasonable European modest then this hotel would be for you. We would definetly stay here again.
Rest easy - this is the place
I know what it's like. Facing the daunting task of finding a hotel in venice when you have no idea what neighborhood to stay in and there are thousands of hotels in seemingly every neighborhood. well imagine if you had the added pressure of going to get engaged on a surprise trip. Only the perfect hotel will do. But of course with the dollar so weak - you have to have some limitations. Thanks to some positive things i read on tripadvisor (which is why i'm submitting this, my first review, it's a wonderful resource) i booked at the Ca'd'oro... more
Love the C'doro
Good value at 70euros a night for a room overlooking the canals, close to a vapaoretto stop, close to both the action of Rialto, and the "real" nieghbourhoods of venice, this was ideal. Why stay in the overpriced areas around San Marco - much more local colour to be had here and san marco is a 10 min walk away through picturesque Venice. Part of the fun of venice is discovering the local shops as you walk through the alleyways. The Room was agreeable, clean and functional. No complaints with anything about the hotel. We will stay... more
Avoid the Ca' D' Oro Hotel
The hotel owner refused to acknowledge they received a change in our reservations, and forced us to pay for a night we did not stay at the hotel. We made that change through our travel agent 6 weeks before our visit, and our agent even faxed a copy of the confirmation of the change to the hotel while we were there. We are obviously contesting this charge through our credit card company. The rooms are very small and overpriced anyway, far from where we would have wanted to be in Venice.
