Bologna - Stazione Hotel

Spent one night here. Very nice, efficient front desk staff. Hotel is showing some wear - carpeting going up stairs to 2nd floor was really dirty. Elevator is so small that it would only hold one person with luggage. Room was very modern, with simulated wood floor. This is one of the European hotels where the electricity and A/C only work when you insert your room key into a slot inside the room. We got off the train in Mestre at 3 am and didn't quite know where to go! We were very fortunate to find the Hotel Bologna (a Best Western) just across the street. We were offered a suite for our family of four, and it was beautiful. The room was modern in style with a separate bedroom with a king bed and the living room with two twins (one added by the hotel staff just moments after we got there.) My wife's first trip to Italy (I had been before) and this property did not disappoint. Not hard to find if you are coming in on the Auto strada as we did. If you are coming in on the train, the Mestre stop is the one you want. Walk out the from of the train station and the hotel is in front of you. We were pleased with our stay at this hotel. The room was very clean, and the staff was helpful to us...in fact, we were able to purchase our train tickets to Venice at the hotel. Yes, it is located by the train station, but the thought of hauling 4 pieces of luggage (and an 11 year old child) on vaporettos would make me NOT want to stay in a Venice hotel. We would recommend this hotel to people visiting Venice.

Do not stay here! This was the worst hotel we stayed in during our trip in Italy. The hotel may be conveniently located for a day trip into Venice, but the location itself is run-down and unpleasant. The hotel is also dirty and run-down. The staff was indifferent at best to questions or requests and were often downright rude. The hotel is in Mestre, a less than beautiful town, but it is accross the street from the train station and a very easy, cheap commute to Venice. We stayed two nights and upgraded to a suite when we arrived. The room was lovely and the bathroom terrific. It was clean. Beware of rooms on the front of the hotel (we overlooked a parking lot), they could be noisy. so I guess there is not much to add. It is true that that hotel is quitte good in price,location and guestrooms. I have to admit I haver never been a fan of Best Western hotels but this hotel would get a good score from me. The chap on the reception was welcoming and helpful although the restaurant staff I was not so impressed with but then it is just luck of the draw sometimes. We stayed here for 1 night Oct 26 2004. The hotel location was great! Literally across the street from the Venezia Mestre train station. Like other reviews have said, only a 10min ride out to Venice islands. Hotel was clean, staff friendly and spoke English. We had problem with our air conditioning, thus the 'above average' rating. Since temp wasn't too hot, it was ok. The breakfast was incredible. Great hotel and location!

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We are so thankful that we stayed here because of how convenient this location is. The train station is across the street and we just hopped on a train to San Marcos square whenever we wanted to and it was a 10-minute ride and only cost 1 euro. This hotel was amazing! It was conveniently located across from the train station which made trips back and forth from Venice quick and easy.
