Highly recomended
After staying five days here I can say the staff, the location and the hotel quality is excellent. The rooms in this hotel are very nice and very clean. The staff is very helpfull with all your needs including extra days.
Ateneo Hotel was good
We stayed there for 3 days in August, 2004, for our first trip to Venice. It was convenient right off the bat because they had an entrance to one of the minor canals which the water taxi could unload us. It was a convenient location, about 5 minutes walk to the San Marco Plaza. The best thing was that it was really air conditioned well with a modern split system AC. I am an online instructor and need internet connection which they had but it was a pay system wireless and it was only available in the lobby for about 4 Euro for 24 hours. They... more
Nice little hotel
Clean, quiet location, less than 5 min walk from San Marco square, air condition, very clean, fresh towels daily. Not shabby or dirty- nice renovation. Marble floor in room, nice wall-paper, heavy curtains so room was dark at night, mattress was above average for European hotels in this price range, good quality sheets and bed cover, white tiled bathroom that was spotless, typical European breakfast. The only negative was odd-shaped tub that was installed too-high, a short or older person would have trouble getting in and out. Make sure... more
A nice place, cheap but hard with luggage
The Ateneo is a bit out of the way if you have lots of luggage (right next to the Fenice theatre, but about 10min walk from the vaporetto stop, a walk that goes up and down across two bridges!) However once settled in, its easy to walk to most sights. Another problem is that the hotel has no lift! The room was fairly comfortable (if a bit stuffy with the windows closed). Staff were helpful. Importantly, the price was very much lower than most in Venice.
Unpleasant Stay
I stayed here October 2-4, 2003. Massimo, was the most unfriendly person and our stay was very unpleasant. We had a booking for three and my friend's Mother passed away, so only two of us would be traveling to Venice. This was the ONLY hotel, on our one month visit, that charged us for three people, after calling and notifying them of the change. I had made arrangements, in advance, to accommodate my being handicapped. When I arrived, I was given a room on the third floor (all those stairs) with a bathroom ceiling that was so low... more
A good one, can be better
Room was decorated nicely, bathroom is spacious, but no bath curtain for the shower. Found some dirt on the carpet. Friendly staff.
Wonderful hotel in Venice!
We were in Venice September 8th through the 11th and after extensive research, I decided that the Albergo Ateneo would be the best hotel for us. My priorities were location and price and I made my choice based on any and all hotel information and reviews I could find (note-being a travel counselor I had many resources). We weren't disappointed! The location was perfect - centrally located for short distance walking anywhere, many fabulous restaurants within a stones throw and yet, just far enough from the hustle and bustle of San Marcos and... more
Bad one. Never again.
very bad hotel.bad breakfast (gummy bread, 2 sorts of ham and one of cheese), little rooms like in a prison.after an shower, the bathroom was under water.you can gor out in the night, because there is no gurantee, that the hotel will be open ????!!!unfriendly everyone.NEVER AGAIN.
Wonderful Hotel in a wonderful location
After doing a ton of research on Venice hotels I finally decided on the Hotel Ateneo. The criteria I used to decide this hotel was location, amenities and price. Location was important to me because I wanted to be close to San Marco square where there was more life, shops and restaurants. This hotel did not dissapoint me with any of my criteria. The staff was very nice and helped in any way they could and the room I stayed in was very nice (302). Everything appeared to be new, the bathrooms were spotless. My only problem was trying not... more
Venice, Venice!
For Valentines Day I booked a surprise week-end for me and my girlfriend at Hotel Ateneo, Venice. I booked about six weeks in advance and confirmed our stay twice. No problems. On our departure day my girlfriend was over the moon, realising that our mystary destination was indeed romantic Venice but after a short flight and lengthy coach journey we arrived in Venice. Upon arrival at the bus station, luckily we were aerlier advised NOT to follow directions for water taxi's, we went straight to the water busses. (Excellent advice as half the... more
