Albergo Bonvecchiati Hotel

Spent 4 nights here in August and had a really good time. The room was very comfortable, albeit a little difficult to find since it was at the back of the hotel where it looked like two separate buildings had been joined - but the floors didn't line up! We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The most jarring aspect of this hotel is the overpowering smell of human waste in the lobby. It may be badly located near a sewer but we found it very overwhelming. The breakfast was standard continental and served in a bright dining room. The room was sparkling clean though very small and faced a canal with singing gondoliers.. We prepaid for a superior room and were clearly given a standard. This was the worst hotel of our two week stay in Europe! This is clearly not a 4-star hotel. We stayed in much better 3-star hotels for a lot less. At first they tried to send us to some "residence" a few blocks away down some unlit streets following a shady character. We were the only people in this 4 story building in a dark alleyway. I got the hotel to give us a room in the actual hotel (after lugging the suitcases up and down 4 flights of stairs) and it was horrible. Good central location, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet, but if you don't book your room directly with the hotel you'll end up with one of their worst rooms. That was their excuse for our delapidated room (that we refused). On the plus side they managed to get us a room at the Hotel Gabrielli (Fine hotel) for no extra charge for the 1st night of our stay and gave us the 'renovated' room we were expecting the next day. We stayed here in July 2004 and booked 2 rooms for our family of four. They put us in rooms that were on top of their restaurant. Their lounge singer's voice vibrated in our rooms. It may not have been so bad if she wasn't such a bad singer. We asked to be moved, but they didn't even try. The rooms were dirty and old. Badly in need of updating. We would not stay here again.

stayed at this hotel for 2 nights last weekend. i have been to many 5 star hotels all over the world and this hotel is as good, beautiful, efficient etc as any other hotel i've stayed in. it is situated so central, you would not believe. count to 60 and you are in san marco square, count to 90, in the opposite direction and you are at rialto. hotel is beautiful, excellent breakfast, excellent bars, especially the main bar of an evening, when there is a pianist playin all evening. so romantic. reception staff are excellent,... more

The hotel is perfectly located for all main attractions in San Marco. Our room was airy, well furnished and, given the limitations of all buildings in Venice, of good proportions. Staff were very professional and helpful, hotel amenities were excellent and the breakfast selection was first class - offering something for all tastes. My second stay at this hotel. I picked it because of its convenience to Piazza San Marco and environs. The rooms are servicable and the bathrooms are very good. A nice buffet breakfast is served as well. No Internet access at all, but there is no surcharge for a local call to the local earthlink dial-up access. This hotel is just steps away from a very busy gondola lagoon and staging area. For this reason, water taxi drivers are reluctant to take you all the way to the hotel's water entrance. The Bonvecchiati is a great place to stay in Venice. It is minutes away from St. Marks square, and is next to one of the canals. My wife and I decided to walk form the station with a light pack and even with getting lost it only took us 15-20 minutes to get there. The staff was extremely helpful, and even set up our gondola ride which picked us up at the hotel. Highly recommend this hotel....

My husband and I stayed in the Bonvecchiati in May. We paid what I consider to be a very reasonable price for bed and breakfast and stayed in a smallish but very clean and pleasant room with a view of the canal. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening and found the hotel staff to be very pleasant and helpful. We would certainly stay there again. Very good location and good value for money.
