Visited this hotel August 2007, 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 3. This hotel was advertised as a 5* but I definately found this not to be the case. The room was definately a poor 3* standard. Bunk beds were provided which had fallen apart and had been fixed together... more

Not a shinning star
We have just returned from the hotel Constantinos The Great and although we had a good holiday it was not exactly what we expected. When first arriving the hotel looks very grand with it frontage and the reception area looks impressive with it glass lifts and plants growing from the floors. The rooms themselves are very tastefully decorated - however, the maid service was very much to be desired - we too didnt have the bedroom floor or the bathroom floor cleaned the whole two weeks we were there. When fresh towels were asked for by putting the dirty ones in the bath - we noticed that sometimes the maid just folded the dirty ones and put them on the towel rail. We also came back several times during the stay to new furniture in the room - not that the old furniture was in need of being replaced. Our belongings had been removed and placed back in the new furniture - not folded however, how they found it. This was not acceptable as personal items were in the draws they had emptied !! Although the hotel is meant to be five star and a dress code is advised for the evening meal - we feel this needs to be stricter as youths would turn up for dinner in jeans, baseball caps (which were not removed), short denium skirts with baseball boots etc . The dinning room was like an obstacle course with bodies everywhere and dangerous rugs that were not always straight and ready to trip you up. I found it very irrating that the waiting staff had been told to remove your plate as soon as you had finished - this resulted in pouncing on you before you had put your knife and fork down sometimes - and if they asked you whether a plate was finished with and you answered no - they still took it away regardless !! The Sunday Cyprus day was a nightmare - thehotel was very crowded and the bar staff had clearly been told to serve the cypriot guests first - forgetting that the hotel had already taken our money from us (being all inclusive). We also found that there was a lot of items that were not included in the all inclusvie offer - which were not dearer than any other item - such as milkshakes , certain coffees and certain cocktails. Other all inclusive hotels we have visited all inclusive means all inclusive. The food itself became very same old, same old - and although we were all inclusive we ate out several times to stop the boardom. If the hotel wishes to continue under its five star banner the ,management needs to stop non residents , the dress code needs to be stricter, employ more cleaning staff , change the menu to make it more appealing and sort out the all inclusive element.
If's and buts....
What a shame...... I gave this hotel 2 out of 5 and it probably is slightly unfair but it was "Okay, but some problems....". We made the most of our week at this hotel and although we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, my patience was tested too often. 1) If your room is on the Mezzanine floor, rooms 2 - 16 (even no's) you will have a free wake up call between 4:00 and 7:00 every morning from the bin men. GET ANOTHER ROOM NOW!! 2) If you pause while you eat in the restaurant, you have a good chance of your plate being swiped away by the very over eager (but friendly) staff. 3) Get your sunbeds early, the locals like to sunbathe at this hotel. A lot. 4) Its not 5 star - its clearly a 3 star, with a lovely garden area and beach to sunbathe. Its such a shame. With the right management and guidance this place could be way ahead. Still, who am I to judge, I only paid £400.00 per person for a week 1/2 board so I suppose I got a bargin!!!?? The Azia in Paphos makes this look like, as my fellow suffer explains, as Faulty Towers in the Sun.
Fawlty Towers in the sun
We have just returned from 2 weeks in the Constantinos the Great Hotel Protarus. When we arrived on the Wed. the hotel looked lovely, nice reception area etc. We arrived in our room to find that our 8 year old son had camp bed to sleep on, so we went to reception to ask to have it replaced. We were told by the reception manager that we would have to see our Rep. to in the morning. I said that this was not good enough for a 5 star hotel to have camp beds and we were not leaving until it was changed. He told us it would be changed in the morning and it was. On the Fri. we were at the pool and I had to return to the room to get something only to find that the beds were pulled out, wires were out of the wall and 2 workmen were in our room. I went down to see the manager to find out what was going on, only to be told that he was not available and no-one was able to explain why work was going on in our room. On our return to the room later we found that we had a complete new headboard and mirror fitted. The following day, the same thing happened. We found that our furniture had been changed, the drawers, bed side cabinets tables and chairs. All of our clothes, including our personal things had been taken out of the old furniture and replaced in the new ones. We had no note, phone call or any communication from the hotel to tell us that they were carrying out this work. We went to our Rep. and told her, she was astonished that we had not been contacted by the hotel and asked if it was ok to do this. When she went to ask about this she was told that the hotel did not have to unform anyone and she was dismissed forthwith. Our bathroom floor was not cleaned the whole 2 weeks we were there, and the balcony was full of bird droppings which I had to clean myself. The hotel lounge had little and at times no air con. it was so hot in the evenings everyone complained, but once again to no avail. The entertainment in the evenings was awful. Elvis turned up rather drunk one evening and used bad language and crude jokes infront of children. His grand finally consisted of him stripping to his boxer shorts. The Blues Brothers were so bad that nearly everyone got up from their tables and left at once, leaving two tables of poor people to endure the rest of the show. The locals were allowed to use all the facilities of the hotel without charge, with the result on a Sat.and Sun. the pool was packed with locals and the animation team could not operate, they had to call off their activities. With the result the paying residents could not get a sunbed. We all complained to the manager and staff, as did the animation team, Carlos and Sarah. We were totally ignored and told that they paid to use the hotel, this was not true!! The animation team were constantly complaining on behalf of the paying residents about the locals. The beach bar attached to the hotel charged the locals half the price of what the paying guests were charged. I witnessed this myself. The food was ok at times, the salads were very repeditave and not much imagination went into making them, same old, same old every night. We paid a lot of hard earned money to go to this hotel and we were very disapointed with it. This was supposed to be a so called 5 star hotel. I don't think it was, overall a 3 star at best.
A Disappointing Holiday.
We have just returned from Constantinous The Great - but sorry it's not. We were asked to relocate to a sister hotel due to overbooking but were not tempted, even though a fully inclusive package was offered. We though the food was quite good, although it was necessary to eat early to avoid the crowds. Although the Hotel asks for Smart Dress in the Dining Room - this was not the case. Jeans, teeshirts etc. The Evening Entertainment was certainly not supported by the guests - but the volume could have burst the eardrums!! Maid Service was not to the Standard of a 5 star hotel - and the bathroom floor was not clean. I agree with the previous reviewer - the Hotel is open to locals at week-ends and they take over, although I must say we never had to book a sun bed and there were plenty available.
Not a 5 Star Hotel has major issues
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! This was our 3rd trip back to the Constantinos Hotel, we have had some good holidays at this hotel, but this year was the worst and we will not return. I agree with the last report this hotel has major issues. 1. Protaras is so noisy dont expect to get any sleep if you are in a pool view room until 3am 2. My husband was ill for a week from the sea food salad. 3. I have never seen so many flys around the buffet. 4. The food is so salty and bland although it is the same chef as last year, the food you eat for dinner you will see the next day for lunch on the buffet. 5. They try to rake every penny out of you if you go all inclusive. It is very limited although you have already paid your money to the travel agent. 6. Sundays is called Cypriot Day and the hotel incourage this, the Cypriots take over the hotel in there hundreds, and you cant get a sundbed or in the pool or even food to come to that. The hotel entertainment staff warn you Saturday GET YOUR SUNBED early in the morning or you wont be getting one Cypriot Day is Sunday. 7. The standard of the cleaning in this hotel is below average 8. The poolside toilets are disgusting 9. Watch the pool if you have kids, a couple of kids had eye infections from the pool. 10.Entertainment is none existent its so poor they struggle to get people to watch. Although the poor entertainment team work so hard. 11. The bar attendants are so rude, they are constantly talking about all the holidaymakers. 12. I agree this hotel seriously needs security. 13. 3am in the morning drunks from Protaras strip often throw each other in the hotel pool and that seems to be aloud, because of no security and noone really caring. One good thing the beach is lovely other than the weekend it gets very busy, and then anybody and everybody is aloud in the hotel. Protaras has been spoilt with so many bars they are all in competition with one and other who can make the loudest noise. We went fo 2 weeks and could not wait to come home. Not to return to the Constantinos, time to move on!
This hotel has some serious issues
We booked the Constantinos for our honeymoon. If you are reading this and are considering booking for your honeymoon...then don't. We are a young couple late twenties who thought we would go to Protaras for a relaxing break with cool nightlife and like minded people. How wrong were we!!! Firstly Protaras is one of those typical 'Enlgish' resorts that you wish never existed. We thought becasue the resort id 10k's away from Ayia Napa that the it would be less full of English, with some Stylish Greek taverns and a bit of style. Again, how worng were we. The place is full of restaurants which serve Allday beakfast and Roast Pork or Chicken and the kareoke nights in some of the bars make this strip virtually unbearable. As for the constantinos, this place has some serious issues. Firslt its bleightanly not 5*, not that I mind that that much, we are the sort of people who are not fussy but considering we paid a bit of money the rooms were really not up to standard at all. Secondly, the security in the hotel does not exist. The locals take over the sunbeds by the pool at the weekend and the hotel manager just shrugs his shoulders. A few of the people we met were ATTACKED by cypriots in the evening INTHE HOTEL. The hotel manager again just shrugged his shoulders, and refused to call the police. The food sometimes is like an old peoples home cafeteria - but to be fair sometinmes they do get it right and there is something nice - don't rely on it though. We were told because we were on our honeymoon we would recieve 'a little something' - we never did until I asked for the fourth time at reception. Lastly if you don't know, Cyprus is more expensive than England, so if your looking for a cheap hol then don't go here. If you have already booked and you are reading this in despair, then let me give you some survival tips. For nightlife go to Romeos taverna, right at the end of the strip near Fig tree bay - excellent food and good service. Stonehenge bar opposite can als be pretty good - good music and decent MC - that's it for Protaras - Rockafellas also isnt so bad but it full of people over 50 - not ideal if you are into a good atmosphere. Another plus point is the beach and the sea which are both stunning in Protaras - thank god - everythings is seriously below par. I do spare a though for Carlos who runs the entertainment at the hotel, Hes a nice fella and does his job well, unfortunately the local Cypriots have threatened him 3 times while doing his job, because he asked then to stop abusing the hotel guest. The hotel desperately needs security.
Fab Location
We stayed at the Constantinos the Great for 2 weeks in june, with 2 families of four, hotel is in a fab location right on the beach( a little rocky in front of hotel) however walk down to the right for 2/3 mins and the beach is sandy and really safe for children, with an excellentvariety of watersports. Facilities at the hotel were as described in the brochure, but give the Cyprus Night a miss!! Entertainment team with Premiere were excellent kids activities during the day as well as waterpolo/ water aerobics , also variety of shows , bingo and kids disco in the beach bar, Carlos and team work very hard and are really friendly. Rooms are large enough for a family, twin beds and put me up beds for kids, cleaned everyday with fresh towels if you require them, bathroom good size with shower over the bath, and balcony with excellent views. Staff in the hotel very friendly, especially Lenka and Hanah who always serve with a smile. Food was great, a good selection for breakfast, Lunch is buffet in the restaurant or poolside bar and also beach bar you can have burgers/pittas (would recomend pittas they are fab) evening meal again excellent , a good variety for any taste and a special childrens section. Hotel was fantastic and we will definatley be returning next year.
excellent hotel
my family and i have just returned from a week in the constantinos. we booked half board but upgraded to all inclusive after one day as it worked out much cheaper with a 10 year old. we still went out for a walk and drink at night you are not tied down there is a choice! the hotel is excellent views spectacular(side sea view) and in a perfect position in protaras. the staff were friendly(except a grumpy barman in the poolside bar) and the hotel was spotless. there is a grass verge between the beach and pool with sunloungers on and you couldnt wish for a better view. food became a bit boring after a week but doesnt it always in a hotel abroad. the rooms were roomy and well kept, and air conditioned. overall this was one of the best hotels and resorts i have ever been to and i have booked for next may already.
Poor accomodation
Rather than Constantinos the Great this hotel should just be named Constantinos... It is marketed in most of the brochures at 4.5 or 5 star - this is most definately not the case, I should have realised that any type of hotel which offers all inclusive options is not 5*. The holiday was booked on Thomas Cooks website and the operator was JMC, the deal was half board for 2 weeks in Protaras with really good flight times. When you 1st arrive at the hotel you are impressed due to the reception area and your bags are taken from you to be sent up to your room - so far so good. The good impression ends when you get to your room... Accomodation Rooms have 2 single beds, cheap furniture and a basic bathroom - our shower curtain was too short so the bathroom was like a paddling pool everytime you have a shower. Quality of towels are also poor. Our room was on the 1st floor on the side of the back of the kitchen and beside the outside evening entertainment bar - no chance of sleeping before midnight and you are also woken approx 4am with bin lorries and vans. Pool area Again way below even 4 star standards - most uncomfortable beds, poor quality of towels, smallish pool. Music played all day and even some delightful live music if you were lucky - you aren't getting to relax at this pool! Good for families but not for just chilling out. At the weekend the hotel is used by lots and lots of locals - who take over the sun loungers and if there is no loungers available they will sit on towels right next to your bed! All paying guests were vert unhappy but the management said "you have a bed and umbrella what is the problem?". Food Breakfast was buffet style - usual for most hotels, no complaints here. Dinner - also buffet style but very little choice - soup or salad and main courses were pretty much the same every night - rice, meat, meat and more meat! If you were veggie you would struggle on the bland pasta. Waiters couldn't serve the wine and may people complained that the red wine was very hot near to roasting! Overall Poor hotel which is only 3-3.5 star, ok for families who are happy with all inclusive but the food is poor and the whole crowding issue at the weekend due to the locals is a nightmare - don't waste your money.
Great holiday!!
Me and my partner stayed at the contantinos the great beach hotel in September 2005 and must say that we had a fantastic time! When we arrived at larnaca airport and got on the hot sweaty coach to transfer us to our hotel i had a bad feeling about the whole thing! it was 37 degrees at the time.... But after arriving after a long 2 hours (which felt like forever) on the coach we was very impressed with what the hotel had 2 offer. From the outside the hotel looks very impressive with it all lit up and a balcony looking over to the pool and beach. As soon as we got off the coach a porter came over and immediately took our bags and was very polite.. Our room was very spacious for what we needed and the balcony looked over the sea which was fantastic. We knew from then on we was going to have a brilliant holiday and we definately did! The food wasnt the best of food and wouldnt say it was 5 star. It was repeated quite alot and didnt have enough variety. Although i liked the breakfast option with full english breakfast as well as muffins and cereal. I would suggest not going completely all inclusive but maybe bed n breakfast as protaras has fantasic restaurants all along the front. Apart from that i didnt have a complaint about the hotel. Me and my partner got engaged out there and the staff sang a traditional celebration song in greek... which we thought was amazing! i am soo pleased we choose this hotel, the pool was lovely and big - although very cold in the mornings and the beach just a few steps away! and the beach is great, white sand and turquoise sea. Id love to go back... i wouldnt worry to anyone who is reading the reveiws and worrying! there is nothing to worry about...
