" Wonderful time at the Vista Bahia "
Submitted By: Sandy MayneI do think that we were very lucky to be staying in there at the time of year we did(June/July) as I suspect it may be a different story when the hotel is much fuller during the busy holiday season and the staff are fully stretched. We were also very lucky to be in a room at a lower level so we had no hills or steps to climb up and down. However, I do feel that it is only a 3 star hotel so people should only expect that from what it offers. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel you should look for that style accommodation so that you are not disappointed.
Advice: Lovely beach and resort. Not too big and commercialised but has all you need from a beach resort.
Activities: The boat trip to St Miguel from Portinatx that incorporated a trip to the caves. Wonderful day trip.
Good for: Beach
" OK.. except food "
Submitted By: scootsdaAdvice: Portinatx is good for a get away from it all holiday... more laid back than other busier resorts.
Activities: try the boat trip to san miguel and visit to caves..15euros including entry to caves.

" Overall a great holiday "
Submitted By: ycanaOverall we loved the hotel. It does have lots and lots of steps, but it was only dangerous if you were very young, infirm or very drunk. The 3 separate small pools was much better than one big one and they were clean and well maintained and very warm by the afternoons. We thought the food was great - you might want to beware the salad stuff as it is left out between lunch and dinner without any covers over and there are lots of flies about. If you don't like seafood you might be a bit limited on choice. And whoever said they can't cook bacon is right, but all of the food was cooked properly. A few more labels on what the food is would be nice, but my 9yr old son enjoyed trying lots of different things. Lots of other children seemed to eat chips for every meal! The hotel leaflet said it did packed lunches, but when I asked, they gave me another leaflet with it crossed out. To me that's not All Inclusive and trapped us in the hotel for the week as we had not budgeted for eating out which was extortionate. There was always fresh bread, cheese and meats available at breakfast, but one of the hotel rules is no food to be taken out of the restaurant and abusing All Inclusive would result in having it taken away! Worrying! Mind you the hotel has a rule about not reserving sunbeds, but if you want one you need to queue up at 8:30am sharp with your towel at the ready! The pool was also supposed to be closed at 7:30pm, but they didn't chase people out which was nice and some were still in gone 9pm. The bar was open 10am to 6pm by the pool and I think the hotel tries to limit it's costs by having it staffed by one person who can only serve so many people and using the silly 125ml plastic cups! I didn't mind the plastic cups as it was poolside, but the colossal waste was appalling. Bigger cups would have meant less waste surely? Lots of queuing for drinks (but no limit on number of drinks like some people said). Poor Lau had to get all his own stuff from the kitchens too when he ran out, which meant leaving the bar unattended at times. The terrace bar was open 6pm to midnight and was similarly staffed until 10pm when someone else helped.
The room was clean, the air con worked well and only when the door was shut (no time limit or repeated button pushing). The heavy plastic curtain liners were fantastic at keeping the heat out of the room. Not sure what other people mean about not getting clean sheets etc. There's a double sided 'door hanger' and a hook on your terrace door to say if you want your room done or not and you have to put your towels in the bath if you want new. It takes less than a minute to strip 4 beds and if you take the time you'll be sure to get new sheets!
The kids club is only available between 11am and 12:15pm if parents are around the pool and has a limited amount of toys and activities, but really friendly, enthusiastic staff. They also run activities for all in the afternoon e.g. water polo and the kids entertainment singing, dancing etc. starts at about 9pm. Next time I would choose a hotel where they have a proper kids club where you could safely leave your child for half a day and go off and do somethng they would find boring!
Reception staff were friendly and helpful in trying to get hold of the rep and they mostly spoke several languages (less friendly with the packed lunch thing!).
Portinatx is beautiful, unspoilt and expensive. The brochure says 500m down a steep bank to the beach, but we think it is a little bit more (nowhere near a km though) and down a road. It wasn't til the end of the hol on a pedalo that we found the beach the brochure actually referred to! We walked all the way across and out the other side of the village and found a souvenir shop. It pays to explore as some of the things we bought were half the price of the shops nearest the hotels!
I know you're not meant to rate the tour operator here but I would never book with Thomas Cook again. John the rep had no idea about family needs, gave out very little info, even false info on excursions and was not very available. I got the distinct impression he spent all his time in San Antoni, would rather be based there with that kind of clientele and was only out in Portinaxt (40 mins from San Antoni) because he got a company car that way. Beware the glass bottomed boat day trip. It's only a day trip because you spend over 3 hours on a coach touring Ibiza to pick up and drop off people from and to other hotels (which the rep lied about and said he didn't know that!). When you finally do get on the boat it is a huge 3 decked catamaran, but the viewing area below deck is very cramped (it's a cat after all) and you don't get much opportunity to look at the fish as we spent the first hour and a half of the 'cruise' being a water taxi (scaring the fish away and not waiting long enough for any to come back), same as the coach picking people up from different hotels, all at top speed so getting any good photos was impossible and flat out the engines were really noisy! The 2 hours sea swimming in a cove was actually 30 minutes. I queued to go down the boat's slide to get in the water,. If I had known we only had half an hour I would have pushed a few people in! At no point did the rep say you need a packed lunch - maybe I should have asked, but what is it they get paid for! We thought food was included as drinks were. Drinks were not included - some awful sangria was available and some cheap and nasty fizzy orange, but nothing else, no water which is all I wanted. One family had a diabetic child and their rep lied to them too which is downright dangerous. Everything else you had to buy. The worst of it was 2 female reps were in the only toilet on board most of the time being sick. They looked rough before getting on the boat so it wasn't motion sickness - not very family friendly! If you want to get the best out of your hol do not book the Thomas Cook excursions, do some research at home before you go and do your own thing.
Advice: Beautiful, unspoilt, great beaches, hilly, expensive, get together and hire a motor boat for the day
Activities: the beaches, Portinatx itself

" Excellent Holiday - Why all the complaints????? "
Submitted By: kthompsonOn arriving to the hotel the receptionist was very friendly and we were checked in very efficiently. With our 3 suitcase and pushchair we made our way to our bedroom. As we had a room with a sea view we did have a room on a high floor but that is to be expected if you want to see the sea!!!
The restaurant was spacious with a lovely outside patio to make the most of the sun and to see the lovely sunset. The food was of a good quality and there was always a good selection. The staff were willing to help whenever we needed them, this goes for the restaurant, bar and reception.
As for the swimming pools, there were 3 of them which were all lovley. Yes they are cold but that is exactly what I would expect of an outdoor pool and if a 13 month old baby can enjoy having a dip it can't be that bad!!!
Reading the comments from the majority of people who have wrote on this site I don't understand where they get their opinions from, I never once saw anyone complaining to a rep although did hear people moaning about not being able to get an omlette!!! People need to realise that they are in a foreign country and maybe they should expect food different to the norm, if you want your omlette or fried eggs (& probably a nice cup of English tea) then maybe you should stay in the UK.
Overall, we really enjoyed our holiday here and would definately recommend it to people who are able to walk up steps etc, it is a lovley hotel for a family break!
Advice: Peaceful and picturesque
Activities: Glass bottom boat and Mexican restaurant was lovely
Good for: Beach
" cant believe what others have said "
Submitted By: susie56ROOMS, The rooms were large and cleaned with new towels daily.
FOOD, we had several choices for every meal every day, it wasn,t piping hot, but was not cold, i thought it was perfectly ok. The food was labelled and presented very well.
DRINKS, there was plenty of choice both alcohol and soft drinks which were served to midnight. POOLS, the swimming pools were cold but were very clean.
THE STEPS, Yes there are lots of steps everywhere but the site is on a hill and the views are fantastic. I don't think they could of laid it out any better.
STAFF, The staff are very helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble.
ENTERTAINMENT, There was always something going on whether it be water polo or football, plus there was a kids club every day, and in the evening ther was entertainment as long as you joined in.
I would definitely go back and recommend to my friends as long as they were not elderly or have any problems walking.
Great sunsets from the bar or restaurant.
Advice: Very unspoilt, good for chilling.

" poor value "
Submitted By: leicestershirerobbieso poor we had to buy food out,the staff allthough friendly were not fully trained to run a bar/resturant. We liked the location & the room was o.k.the hotel was generally clean.
Great views over the bay & ideal to watch the sun set which made up for the attempts at
entertainment! No good for the less mobile holiday maker.

" What a shame... "
Submitted By: MarkybBe warned though it really isnt suitable for anyone who struggles with hills and steps as there is loads of these and they really are quite dangerous - I counted 4 people on crutches and 2 people bandaged up from slipping down them and that was in the first week and we were here for 2!
The hotel really needs to improve on 2 major areas as it could quite easily become a 4*, at the moment I would have to rate it as a 2* and thats at a push (a big one) and thats just for the location!
The food really is awfull and thats not exagerating, I know you would have read the comments that its only a 3* and you get what you pay for but honestly I wouldn't feed it to my dog, although I dont think even he would eat it! The food is always cold, undercooked and tasteless, it has a choice of 2 different main meals and soup, it is hardly ever labeled so you have to make a very intelligent guess as to what it is. My son lived on Spagghetti Bolognase and chips for 2 weeks. My girlfriend had a raw piece of chicken on one day and the burgers you get at poolside are very undercooked so be carefull. We, along with at least 20 others, complained to the rep about the food and the fact it was always cold and we were greeted with a microwave the next day!! what a joke!! The cutlery is dirty and the plates are the same, Check everything thoroughly before it passes your lips especially if your taking little ones. On more than one occassion we walked into the the restuarant and walked back out again it was so awful, luckily Portinatx is a lovely little place with some nice restuarants and is only about a 10minute walk away! But if you do decide to stop here make you you take a fair amount of money with you because the food off the resort is expensive with just a standard meal with drink each for 2adults and a child will cost you on average 45 - 50 Euros.
The other area that badley lets it down is the cleanliness of the rooms - the maid hardley come in to change towels and bedding and there was mold behind one of the beds. I hope the hotel reads these reviews because if they could change these two areas (which isnt to hard to do is it??) it could be a really nice place to stay.
Advice: My advice is go to Portinatx - just dont stay at the vista Bahia!!
Activities: The Chinese in Portinatx is fantastic and Porto Blanc by the first beach is good too

Submitted By: honeyxebonyEveryone was friendly and helpful, the views were amazing!
There were alot of steps in the hotel but its worth it to have an ocean view from your balcony, I found the hotel very relaxing, the entertainment was fun and they always tried include everyone in it, kids and adults alike.
Yes the drinks may have come in plastic cups but who really cares, I thought it mattered what was in the cup not what it looked like! lol
The beach is about a 10 minute walk away, and its gorgeous, the water is so clear, it really is picturesque.
There could have been more choice of food but the food was still enjoyable.
There was always activites on such as basketball, football, ping pong, and french bowls and anyone could join in.
I only went for a week with my 2 friends and we wished we could have stayed longer, I really would love to go again.
Like others have said if you pay for a 3* its going to be 3*
I personallly would give it higher.
Advice: Brilliant! I am already planning my next trip!

" Lovely holiday "
Submitted By: Gem2401The food was brilliant for a 3*, the rooms clean, the staff friendly, energetic & helpful. Like people say, you get what you pay for. If people are really that disgusted by it then they should be spending more money and going to 4/5*'s.
I loved it so much there that I am going back again this year. I've been away to lots of places abroad but never have I felt so peaceful and calm as I did at the Vista Bahia.

When we first arrived, the receptionist informed us that we couldnt have our room yet as checking in didnt start for two hours. However, we were shown where we could leave our cases, and given our all inclusive bands and shown to the bar to have a drink and some snacks. When we returned the room was ready.
The room itself was spotless, with adequate furnishings and clean working bathroom (although could do with updating at some point in the future). The toilet however did keep filling, which was quite noisy. On mentioning this to the receptionist, within 5 minutes we were moved to another room, identical, but without the noisy toilet!
I am a very fussy eater, and thought that this might be a problem, however, there is a good variety of food available, and it is all well cooked and flavoured. The view from the dining room is amazing... you can see the sun set whilst eating your evening meal... perfect.
The staff are all friendly, and seem to speak a number of different languages. There is also a shop on site which stocks the basics. There are a lot of steps around the hotel, but this is stated clearly in the guide so I don't see why people have problems with it!
The swimming pools are all clean, and there are three, a deep one and two shallow, so they were never too crowded. There is also access to a lot of sun beds, and a lot of places to use them.
You can go down the steps at the hotel to the edge of the water, where there is a wooden board to get in. If your balance isn't amazing, I wouldn't recommend this, but if you get the chance, get in there with some snorkelling gear... there are so many fish and plants, its amazing!
Having booked the holiday 20 hours before we flew out, we were apprehensive about the holiday, especially with it being our fist holiday as a couple, and reading the negative reviews. However, everything was perfect, and I would love to have the chance to go again next year.
Advice: Portintx is beautiful, clean beaches, nice shops, activities to take part in.
