Was booked to stay at the Jardim for 3 nights as my fiancés parents were renewing their wedding vows in Alvor. We were the only couple staying in the Jardim as the others were staying in a rented villa.
When we saw the hotel from the outside it looked okay - boy were we wrong!
We walked in to a very basic reception where we checked in, still it didn't look to bad, we where then taken to the lift.
I think it must have been the old broom cupboard it was tiny and with myself, my fiancé, the lady from reception and our 1 suite case it started beeping that it was overloaded! Very scary moment especially if you are claustrophobic. As we stepped out of the lift we were led down a dingy hallway with cracks in the walls.
We were shown to room 309 which was small with 2 single beds 1 wardrobe, a small kitchen and a small bathroom again the room was very dingy and very dated it reminded me of a hostel room rather than a hotel room. There was 1 wardrobe to put all your clothes in no drawers what so ever, the kitchen was ok but small, and the bathroom was vile, no room to move with the door closed, the shower/bath was dirty and the enamel was coming off of the bottom of the bath. It was a very warm day and it was like a sauna in the room as there is NO air-conditioning!
We very reluctantly unpacked our case (putting every item of clothing in the wardrobe) and went to see the rest of the family wh0 were staying in some apartments across the road. We discovered that the apartment had a fold away bed so we immediately checked out of the Jardim. The lady on check in desk was not very polite and was rather off with us! But we were out of the Jardim so we didn’t care!
We did not book the Jardim ourselves so did not know what to expect, if I had booked this hotel through a tour operator I would have been mortified.
Had a nice 4 days in Alvor, try a meal in a restaurant called Goodville, the food was fantastic. Also did the Seafari which is a trip out to see wild dolphins on a speed boat. All 9 of us went and had a great time although we didn’t see many dolphins as it was quite choppy but had a laugh and got very wet, we did the 9.30a.m trip out, I think we would have seen more if we had done a trip in the afternoon but I would still recommend it, we were all soaked but smiling!
