Starhotel Terminus Hotel

I would not say this hotel is 4*. I would say this is a 3* establishment. The foyer was very nice but the carpets in the rooms, communal areas, and by the lift were worn and stained and need of a good scrub! The area where the hotel was located, I felt was unsafe and dodgy, whilst we were there the public phones outside the hotel were broken into and vandalised. My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights in early May. The price was 105 Euros/per night (I made a reservation through their website). The place was extremely close to the train station (appx 1 min), so it was really convenient as we had to take the 7:30 train for Milan. The room and breakfast were nice enough for the price. Terminus hotel is conveniently located in Piazza Garbiladi, near the train station, the airportbuses trminal, and the train that leaves for Pompei and Sorrento as well as the subway. Many buses leave from the Piazza if you want to see different sites. You'll be five minutes walk from the Historic Center and shopping streets. Stayed for one week at this hotel, choosing it mainly because it is so conveniently located right at the doorstep of the train station (we were arriving by train from Rome and leaving the same way). Booked through expedia, where rates were even better than the hotel chain's (Starhotel) website. Good price, clean rooms, good breakfast, efficient reception. We stayed at the Terminus 22-24 February 2005. The Terminus was OK despite the other reviews. It serves a large number of business travelers plus some tour groups. I reserved an Executive Room on Starhotel's website for 132 Euros/night including breakfast + 10% room tax. The breakfast buffet was excellent. We stayed at this hotel in August 2003. At that time they were undergoing major renovations, which hopefully have improved the hotel. The location is great only if you want to be near the train station and highway entrance, otherwise it is awful. The piazza is full of garbage, cardboard boxes, street vendors and people pushing electronic equipment. The Piazza Garibaldi is a cesspool of street vendors and chaos. If you are traveling Italy by train and are just doing a stopover, this is fine. (We were ending our trip there and were heading to the airport in the morning) If you are hanging out in Naples, the area will ruin the experience. convenience of location is its only redeeming feature. We were overcharged by 10 euros and when we queried this we were treated with total contempt,dismissed with a wave of the hand and told that was the charge.The coffee at breakfast was disgusting tasting of nothing more than hot water. Will definitely not be going back.

If you are traveling by train and are not staying long, this is a convenient, modern hotel. The Naples Termini is not the most beautiful place in the world, but once you're off the train, you're practically at the door of the hotel. They normally have a free airport shuttle (which is one of the reasons I booked it), but they forgot to mention that it doesn't run in August. The airport is not far, so it wasn't a big deal. For a four star hotel we were very disappointed. The only plus for the location is that it is right beside the train station for a quick exit. It really needs clean carpets and painting. The air conditioning is poor. The hairdryer fell off the wall within mins of arriving and some Amercian guests we spoke to had to be moved 3 times due to a shower overflow and water dripping from the ceilings aircon vents. The piazza outside is the most awful place I have ever experienced. We checked out early and went home.
