I have stayed in many all inclusive and budget hotels and always take reviews with a pinch of salt as everybody's opinion of value for money is different. We stayed at this hotel all inclusive and for the closing parties last week in September. The hotel itself is clean and... more

The mare nostrum was the very first hotel we stayed in in Ibiza. It was run by thompson. Went back year after year for twelve years running. Some of the staff are still there and we grew to love them and they loved watching our daughter grow up. hotel is now the pits the... more

Have just returned from a two week holiday from hell. It was full of young Spanish/Italian youths with no respect for anyone, shouting running up and down the corridors in the early hours of the morning banging on doors even letting off the fire extinguishers in the... more

We have been to Playa Den Bossa many times and the Mare Nostrum always looked like a nice hotel. How wrong can you be!! The Reception staff are the most unhelpful and rude that I have ever met, the hotel was over run with spanish/italian youths who until 2am when they went... more

We read the reviews before we went and thought it can't be too bad, how wrong we were. We have been to this hotel in the past, it is no longer the same, not for families. There is no entertainment, nothing at all for kids. This hotel is mainly a base for the younger ones... more

We have stayed as a family at the Mare Nostrum several times over the last 10 years. However this time it was just myself, my mum and my gran. On arriving at the hotel 12:30am on a Thursday that it was very quiet. It would usually be filled with familys and children around... more

Hotel Mare Nostrum was in a pleasant location very close to the beautiful beach (Playa d'en Bossa) and about a 15 - 20 minute walk to Ibiza Town. Also very close to Space and Bora Bora. We found your hotel to be very good. Very clean and with good decor, friendly staff, good food. we will book again next year.

Stayed here with my family (Mom & Dad and 3 sisters - 17, 18 and 22). The hotel was really nice and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Was suitable for families - and there were some there as well as 'young' people too! The resort itself is great - nice long beach (you... more

OUR STAY AT hOTEL MARE NOSTRUM
Myself and my 2 sons stayed at the Mare nostrum from the 30th Sept- 10th Oct, It was the first time I had been abroard but never the less we had a good time , there was only 1 night that we had trouble selecting food for dinner, but none of us are fresh fish fanatics. The entertainment in the evening did not start till 10pm and was not child orientated, infact some of it was rude to say the least. The rooms were clean but not spectacular, and the staff were pleasant. The safe in our room on arrival did not lock, and I thought I would have a lenghty wait for it to be repaired, however it was done straight away. The pool was clean, but the water was freezing. The crisps and snacks for the children were expensive, 1.50 euros for a twix or kit kat etc, however it was in walking distance to the town where there are a number of restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes.Playa den bossa itself is pretty run down, and theres an awful lot of develpoment going on. On the whole the holiday was fine, however if you enjoy a sea view I would be careful about booking at the mare nostrum for 2006, as there is a block of apartments being built directly in front of the hotel, work started whilst we were there. If I went to Playa deb bossa again I would stay nearer the town, where thers plenty to do.
Fantastic!!
I got to say there is something wrong with you people who write negative reviews on this superb hotel!! Our 2nd visit to this hotel and it has improved even more if that is possible. Hotel is always clean and tidy, food is superb and a good varied choice, good entertainment from the animacion team and friendly helpfull staff. Air con and tv's in all rooms now as well as a gym and jacuzzi downstairs. Not quite sure what you negative people want from a holiday?? maybe youd be happy if they paid you to go on holiday ??
Great Time!!!
My partner and I visited the mare nostrum during september 2005 and had a lovely time. I have visited the mare nostrum once before about 2 years ago and enjoyed it then however, i think it has much improved since then with the rooms being fully air conditioned now. Our room was spotless and had a lovely view overlooking the terrace pool. We spent many days by the pool, but also visited the beach a lot! (4 euros per sunbed!) We felt very secure in this hotel with 24hr reception and security guard on operation. The food was excelent, and my partner who is a fussy eater found something to eat every night! I must recommend the water park, because we hardly had to queue allowing us to go on the rides as much as we liked (there are lockers available in the water park for five euros!) we also caught the boat to ibiza town which is a must (3 euros per person). To catch the boat which goes every half hour you must turn left out of the hotel and then i think its the first right. Some people did complain about noisey italians however, we had no problems where we were!!
Never again
Looked forward to this holiday as it was a treat for my 60th birthday this year, went with Daughter, Son-in-law, grandson of 10 years and other family members with a 15 year old. We were told this was a family orientated hotel, some of the time maybe ok but majority of the time it was ran as a 18/30 club. people walking around the lounge and bar area half naked, pool party on the Thursday for 18/30's very noisy and dubious characters attended outside of the hotel. Evening entertainment was rude, even disgusting. Only a couple of times was it enjoyable. There was no variation for children at meal times. Very noisy at night, 3-4 am in the morning shouting and talking loudly as if it was the middle of the day, even bongo drums being played at 3am. Most of the staff were polite but there were a few who were rude and could not care less if you asked a question. Our travel rep did not want to know and considering he had so many complaints he probably could not cope! I have to say the 3rd floor we were on we had excellent maids who looked after us very well and our rooms were lovely and clean so at least that made us feel a little better. The lifts need attention as one kept getting stuck and I had to use one with a disabled scooter, which was a little awkward. We did go out a lot to other parts of Ibiza so it helped us to cope at night at the hotel. I have read another review which says take ear plugs, I agree they are a necessary part of the holiday at Mare Nostrum. Will not be coming back.
Below average
When me and my family of 3 children first arrived at the Mare Nostrum we were quite excited as it was our first holiday abroad with the children and the appearance of the hotel looked fine. We went to check in only to find that our room was'nt ready so we had to sit with our cases. Hotel looked nice inside but i turned to my husband and said that we had chosen the wrong hotel. Everywhere you looked were young italians i thought i had booked the wrong holiday and was on club 18-30 holiday. Anyway our room was eventually ready and they were nice with a balcony overlooking the pool on the top terrace. Food was average and could have been better. I found staff nice and pleasent. The animation team for the entertainment were good and with the kids. The reps we booked with were useless as well as they were'nt very child friendly. Second day seemed better as i met a few more british families but to only find out that on a thursday night the hotel held a pool party night for the 18-30 and this is supposed to be a family hotel. We did'nt think much of the resort as well. If your looking for a good hotel for single young people then this hotel will fit brilliant, but not for families at all. The only good thing from our holiday was meeting a nice family from Glossop and would hope to meet them again.
great beach
for the price we give for the holiday it was very good value my wife is a vegeterian and the food catered lovely for her tastes hotel entertainment for the children was excellent but entertainment in night was poor we used to go to brilliant bar called the three monkeys which was british run with good cabarets. the beach was very nice but resort needed upgrading fully recommend water park good value for money and you are not queing very long for rides.my 11 year old daughter said she would like to go back so cant be that bad
Absolutely Brill
I have been to this hotel five times myself wth my family and friends. This trip was the best yet with new air conditioning & televisions in each room, new terrace area with plunge pool, washing facilities, jacuzzi, gym and more! Have always found all staff whether reception, bar, restaurant, entertainment or security to be brilliant! Location is great, near to shops & bars and Ibiza town is a stroll away. Will be going back again. A big thank you to all the staff at the Mare Nostrum, Ibiza for making our holidays great!
Never Again !!!!!!
Where do I start? The place was over run with club 18 - 30 Italians with very little consideration for the british guests, specially in the swimming pools when playing volleyball. The management was more concerned with selling rooms to them than the Brits and they were also guested on an All Inclusive basis which seemed to put the price of drinks in the bar up with a small bottle of water costing just over a £1. To cap it all I had my bag stolen from the cafe area in the lunchtime just into my second weeks stay, containing my wallet with debit cards etc and mobile phone and the staff or management didnt have any care or regard for the situation. They wouldnt even allow us to use the hotel phone to call the bank to cancel debit and credit cards, we were made to use the payphone after rummaging around for enough change. We didnt even get a verbal apology from the manager, let alone an acknowledgement of the serious situation. On the day of departure we had to leave our luggage in reception (due to the luggage room being too full) and told to atch it all day for 13 hours till our flight home (we were nervous after the bag steeling situation) We were treated like third class citizens, and would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
Should have booked somewhere else !
We booked a late deal (tho not cheap!) in August 2003, we were told we would be at one of three hotels in Ibiza, unfortunately we ended up here. I travelled with my husband and toddler son (too young for kids club). Our room was fine, although we were given a cot with a mattress that clearly did not fit properly. Rooms, restaurant etc were nice and clean and we had a lovely friendly waitress who made a fuss of our son every time she saw him. Only used the pool area once during our stay as the main pool was far too busy and crowded and we were very disappointed with the childrens pool. Although not very big it was too deep in our opinion for young children. And so to the beach and resort itself, the beach near the hotel was not good at all, shabby and dirty. (Later in the holiday we did walk about 20 mins up the beach and this was a vast improvement) I have stayed at quite a few hotels on a half board basis and have never found such a poor selection of food. My son is a fussy eater but myself and husband are not, and we really struggled at mealtimes. There seemed to be some very strange concoctions for dinner, lukewarm food and plenty of meals made from previous days leftovers. We were also told there would be a childrens buffet, there wasn't ! (did speak to reps about this but they didn't want to know). Luckily for us, on our third day here we met some friends of my husband. They had hired a car and so for the rest of our holiday we travelled to and ate at some other resorts in this beautiful island. The good thing about this hotel was the evening entertainment. The kids disco was thoroughly enjoyed by our son, and the dj's clearly enjoy their job and have fun with the kids. We also enjoyed the varied shows that the hotel put on in the evenings. So that's my review, we will definitely come back to Ibiza but not to the Mare Nostrum and not to this resort. It is such a beautiful island and we saw so many wonderful places, Cala Llonga, Portinaxt, Es Cana and San Antonio, places with lovely beaches, great shops, markets and restaurants that it is a shame to go to this hotel and resort and miss out.
What do you expect for the money!
Please, please do not be put off by previous reviews about this hotel. I really do not know what people expect for their money. This hotel is one of the cheapest in the Skytours brochure and compared to others I have stayed at with the same star rating this hotelhas much more to offer. The hotel is nicley decorated and we were impressed witht the rooms. The food is more than satisfactory and there is plenty of choice. The entertainments team are outstanding and some of their shows took my breath away. The only critisism we could make is that it is noisy at night and we were particularly unlucky with our neighbours, however many other people we met had no problems. Take some ear plugs and complain on the first night as the hotel WILL do something about it. Lots of young people but hey it makes you feel young again and alive at times. Please do not think you are going to have a bad holiday the location is great near the airport and beach. If a week in the sun is all you want then this hotel will meet your needs.
