The mare nostrum was the very first hotel we stayed in in Ibiza. It was run by thompson. Went back year after year for twelve years running. Some of the staff are still there and we grew to love them and they loved watching our daughter grow up.
hotel is now the pits the company who own it let the rooms to arrogant young itallian hooliogans who have no respect for the staff or the guests. I know this because we now stay at the palm beach fiesta up the road, but still visit our friends on the staff every year. Pleas don,t book this hotel if you have kids and expect an entertaining holiday. The place is filthy. You will find better hotels on the island.

Have just returned from a two week holiday from hell. It was full of young Spanish/Italian youths with no respect for anyone, shouting running up and down the corridors in the early hours of the morning banging on doors even letting off the fire extinguishers in the corridors. Management just dont want to know, the manager should be ashamed of himself letting this behaviour go on. No telephones work in the rooms, all the tiles were lifting around the pool, an 8 to 10 foot deep hole near pool toilets with a chair over it, filthy sunbeds around the pool the list of problems just go on and on. I was expecting to see the bulldozers move in because that's what it needs! We went all-inclusive food was absolutely disgusting pork everyday, a beer is served in a tiny plastic cup not even 1/4 of a pint!
I could not go back to this hotel if someone paid me to!

We have been to Playa Den Bossa many times and the Mare Nostrum always looked like a nice hotel. How wrong can you be!! The Reception staff are the most unhelpful and rude that I have ever met, the hotel was over run with spanish/italian youths who until 2am when they went out clubbing were shouting in corridors, running up and down knocking on doors and being disrespectful to other holiday makers. We spoke to people who had gone all inclusive and they were not impressed with the food and were having to eat out. Not the enjoyable, stress free holiday we hoped for.

We read the reviews before we went and thought it can't be too bad, how wrong we were. We have been to this hotel in the past, it is no longer the same, not for families. There is no entertainment, nothing at all for kids. This hotel is mainly a base for the younger ones looking for the nightlife. However these young ones make it a nightmare for everyone else, they keep you awake all night with loud music, screaming and moving furniture. We were all inclusive, food was not up to much, same thing day in day out. Trying to get a drink was a joke, when the staff eventually served you you were given one drink only in the smallest of plastic cups. Our beach towel was also stolen from the sunbed, so be aware. Good luck if you think it can't be that bad and you go ahead and book this hotel, we thought that too, but never again, we have been put off going abroad, you spend so much and you don't enjoy it.

We have stayed as a family at the Mare Nostrum several times over the last 10 years. However this time it was just myself, my mum and my gran.
On arriving at the hotel 12:30am on a Thursday that it was very quiet. It would usually be filled with familys and children around the pool and the bar.
We had a lovely first night, it' had been recently redecorated and was very clean.
However, the next day, gangs of Spanish and Italian youths flooded the hotel, and unfortunatly the corridor we were staying in was full of them and there was only us and another middle aged couple there.
On the Friday night we were kept up until 4am with the shouting, banging screaming of around 30 youths running up and down the corridors. The room phones were not working in the hotel, so my mum had to get out of bed and walk through them all to go make a complaint. By the time the receptionist had come up they had all caught on and had run back into there rooms.
This persisted all weekend untill the Monday, all day and all night banging our door and whistling and shouting. The corridors were strewn with toilet paper and rubbish. We were unable to be moved as there was no other 3 bedroomed room in the hotel to accomodate us. And we were told that there were complaints all over, so there was no real point.
There is no security in this hotel, the only person is the receptionist out of hours. Lucky for us some more people moved into the corridor and they were also complaining, so there were quiet moments.
The hotel is quiet during the morning as all the youths are asleep in bed, they usually surfaced around 4pm, and then would play volley ball in the pool constantly hitting people and knocking things over (so we layed by the deep end).
It is a beautiful hotel and is close to all ammenities. The staff have always been a pleasure and still are and the food is great, slightly more pasta than I would have liked, but still good.
I advise that familys and couples do not visit this hotel.
The whole resort of Play Den Bossa is changing. It is no longer so family orientated, and is becoming very much like San Antonio.
Please visit Uno's Bodega Bar! We spent every evening there.!

Hotel Mare Nostrum was in a pleasant location very close to the beautiful beach (Playa d'en Bossa) and about a 15 - 20 minute walk to Ibiza Town. Also very close to Space and Bora Bora. We found your hotel to be very good. Very clean and with good decor, friendly staff, good food. we will book again next year.

I just had to leave a review for anyone else who has booked a holiday to this hotel and like ourselves has read all the negative reviews, I'm hear to say I was pleasantly surprised.
We did get quite a good deal as booked pretty last minute, we found the hotel to be clean, have lots of ammenities and is just as good as any three star rated accomodation. Ok some noise, but hey its Ibiza, people go out at night and come back early in the morning, to be expected I would say. We are a couple who are both 30 and wasn't really interested in the nightlife seen, we just want sun and to relax and see some of the island. This hotel was in a good location to do just this, it had a lovely big swimming pool and plenty of sun loungers for all to use. I have to say also that the food was really good, there was an amazing pasta bar in the food buffet that shouldn't be missed out! and it was nice to be staying with people from all different nationalities. It also had a nice bar, which drinks were reasonably priced ( e.g 2 euro for a bottle of beer, 4 euro for jug of sangria). All in all I thought good value for money!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a holiday to Playa D'en Bossa.
It is really clean, maid service every day. Pools are big and clean. Food is great, plenty of choice. Staff are really polite and helpful.
The only drawback is the hotel is full of Italians who can be quite noisy.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday in a really clean nice hotel.

Stayed here with my family (Mom & Dad and 3 sisters - 17, 18 and 22).
The hotel was really nice and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Was suitable for families - and there were some there as well as 'young' people too!
The resort itself is great - nice long beach (you have to walk past the bit with seaweed to get to the good part) and it was much more relaxed than the other side of the island - but still with a few fun bars and cheesy clubs.
Am going back again this year.

I have stayed in many all inclusive and budget hotels and always take reviews with a pinch of salt as everybody's opinion of value for money is different. We stayed at this hotel all inclusive and for the closing parties last week in September. The hotel itself is clean and has good facilities and if you are booking this for a bed and somewhere to shower only it would be fine. The reception staff were very polite and helpful however the rest of the staff including bar staff were extremely rude to anybody that was not spanish. They would not give you more than one drink even if you were ordering for the person next to you even if it was water that you wanted. A small plastic cup of water was charged at 1 euro after 11pm too. The food was VERY limited. Breakfast consisted of beans, fried egg, boiled egg, sausage, bacon, toast, cereal, yoghurt and fruit everyday. Lunch and dinner was a choice of 2 cold pastas, 2 vegetable dishes, 1 potato dish, and 2 meat dishes. The meat dish changed each day but as I say was very limited. The snack bar only served microwave pizza or spanish omelette. There was no other choice all week. As being on a clubbing holiday we were playing music whilst we were getting ready for a night out and were told that after 11pm this had to be turned off and no more than 2 people could be in each room at any time. On 2 occasions the evening staff let themselves in our room and took our electric card out the holder saying it was lights out time and when we complained we were subjected to racial comments from the security and evening staff when we arrived back at the hotel of an evening (******* English) and when asking for their names their response was 'My name is **** You.'
On our fourth night the hotel staff had asked the people in a few rooms down to turn off their music, which we could not even hear and we were 3 doors down, when they refused to do so the hotel turned off the electric completely for the whole 4th floor leaving every guest without lights, air conditioning or any electric whatsoever!
Good points: Pool is clean and spacious and always plenty of sunbeds, The animacion team are fantastic.
