Not a 4 Star - disappointing!

Our week at the Tsokkos Gardens, Pernera, near Protaras 1st week in June was disappointing. On arrival the hotel seems impressive. Carpeted corridors were a big plus because it reduces noise levels. Carpeted bedrooms a surprise but they need renewed (slightly grubby. Very small bathroom (had to squeeze round door to get in and we are not "big" people just average size). Room nice and clean, cleaned daily, bed linen fine but wrinkly matress cover was most uncomfortable. Tea/Coffee in room was not replenished after 1st use so they let themselves down there. Even in a b&b this is replenished daily.
Extremely poor air conditioning in room - not what you expect in a 4* hotel. They charge a deposit for TV remote control - no receipt given and duty receptionist did not log it on computer so great difficulty getting my 10 euros back from a very rude duty receptionist at checkout(why dont they give receipts which would save such problems?) They wanted 1.75 euros per day for tiny mini-bar type fridge (in a supposed 4 star hotel? - not likely!)So it stayed locked and we did without. (Last year in our 3* Majorca hotel, We had a normal domestic fridge with small freezer at no charge!)
The food was just "so-so" - nothing impressive; supposed to be different international menu every night but sorry to seem negative - we were not impressed, and it was NEVER warm enough. Dinner was supposed to be available until 9.30 p.m. and as we like to eat late-ish (8.30-9.00 p.m.)we thought this would be fine but there was little choice left and no-one was interested in replenishing the hot buffet. Very little in the way of puddings left either with the exception of ice-cream. Drinks (including water) were very expensive in the dining room and the prices increased after the first night. Breakfast - well the food was fine except they didnt keep the fried eggs warm - they look fine but were cold! And heaven forbid you should get up from your table to get a second cup of tea before finishing your breakfast - mine was whipped off the table by the time I sat down again! Why they cant just have a system like e.g. a little flag or your table number sat on its side when you were finished. Too simple! I appreciate with the heat and flies etc. they have to be careful but this was a joke!
Pernera itself is fine - a quiet area about 15 minutes walk along the new promenade/walkway into Protaras which makes a big difference. This was our 3rd holiday in Protaras but I dont think I will go back again as it has become a bit tatty (with the exception of the new promenade/walkway). The beaches are fine - no complaints there. Sorry, but no -I dont think I would go back to the Tsokkos Gardens.

If you book here you will not be disappointed. Myself, partner and our two girls age 17 have just returned from this fabulous hotel in July 2009. We were all inclusive which I would highly recommend due to the prices abroad now. The rooms were cleaned every day and all staff were polite and friendly. The food was to a high standard even for fussy eaters there is something there for everyone. The service is super you finish your plate and it is immediately taken away. The entertainment staff work very hard day and night. There are no queues at the bars for drinks or racing for loungers at the pool as there is plenty. I will be back here great value for money.

Just got back from Tsokkos Gardens last week. Had a great time. Rooms were really clean, staff were really friendly and always on hand. Food was great, breakfasts were brilliangt and the evening meal was good too. If you are thinking of booking here go all inclusive, just for the drinks. Its quite expensive at the moment. I went with my wife and 18 month old daughter so was not going to be drinking much but a pint of Carlsberg and a White Wine Spritzer was 9 Euros on site. For 20 Euros a day you can upgrade to all inclusive which is well worth it. Food outside the site can be a bit pricey due to the current poor exchange rate. I think it was about 1.50 euros for a can of coke. Bout 20 Euros for 3 sandwiches and 3 soft drinks. That was the only downside to Cyprus. Weather was great!!
The pool at the hotel is amazing, massive!!! Not too busy either. The entertainment was great, thomas cook staff were really freindly and put on great shows. Normally ended about 12 and could be quite loud if you are roomed above the stage.
We walked to Protaras along the prominade on the sea pretty much every day. Great beach and great town. Was about a 20min walk but a nice walk. Loads of small bars and restaraunts along the prominade.
Enjoy!!

Hotel was lovely, lovely room with very big balcony! Lack of communication on the last day when we was unable to get back in our room "supposadly told we had to charge our room card" was not told this! Cleaner wanted us to leave early so she could clean the room even tho we had the room until 6pm! Staff snatched ur plate as soon as you had finished or even just got up to get a drink! Other than the few minor hiccups everything was great! Would highly recommend

some overlooked the pool, and the others overlooked the road and some restaurants.
The food was all you could ask for, as they had different countries food every night! e.g Monday-Chinese, Tuesday-International, and so on..... including the main meal they had childrens meals, they were served every day, lunch and tea (chips and chicken nuggets!) For pudding they served fresh fruit and some sweet puddings e.g trifle, cake, ice-cream, there was also a range of cheese and biscuits available. For breakfast it was either cerial, fried breakfast, or fruit. All the staff at the hotel were extremely friendly, and would go out of their way to help you.

The location of the hotel was reasonable, as there is a 5 minute walk to the nearest pebble beach, but about 7 minutes in a taxi/car you can travel to the most popular beach in Cyprus, the name is 'Fig Tree Bay'. Myself i would recommend you visit it as you can hire: pedalos, oxoons (yellow boats), and lots more. The nearest town to Tsokkos Gardens is Protaras which takes 5 minutes in a taxi/car, or Pinera which is about a 10-15 minute walk. You can hire a taxi from the reception, just ask for them to call a taxi.
All-in-all we had a fantastic holiday, and I would recommend it to all. I give this holiday 9/10. If you do visit Tsokkos Gardens do enjoy your stay.

We stayed at this hotel from the 10th July to the 21st July for 11 nights half board. On arrival the appearence of the hotel was impressive and the inside did not let it down. We had a lovely holiday, the food was great, the hotel was great, the entertainment was great and so were all of the staff! The hotel is located in Panera a part of Protaras, which was nice as it was out of the main part of prataras but had everything you needed around you. The hotel room was nice it was cleaned everyday, fresh towels and the beds were fine quite comfy for a hotel! I would recommend this hotel to anyone, we ended up upgrading to all inclusive as we found ourselves spending alot on the drinks. We are booking to return here soon :)

Me and my girlfriend went on holiday for the first time together and the only thing we had to complain about was the evening food, dont get me wrong most nights was excellant but there was a couple of nights that did not catter for us, so we headed out for something to eat were there is plenty of restaurants to choose from. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very friendly as they couldnt do enough for you. In the room the t.v only had english programes on for about 3 hours and that was at about half eleven at night, besides that there was some english songs on the music channel all the time. The entertainment team always had alot of energy and trying to get people involved with things happening all through the day somestimes there would be nothing on because they had to rehearse for the evening shows which you can not complain about as they are still working towards something to keep you from not being bored. The hotel is based only a short walk to a couple of small beaches and shops if you want a drink or something to eat during the day (if your not all inclusive as you have food and drink for you) there is a shop on the corner that the hotel is based on which is cheap for alcohol well it was the cheapest we could find as it was only 1 euro 75 for a 1.5 litre of Carlsberg we chose to buy our alcohol out of the hotel as in the hotel for a pint it cost 3 euro 50. Overall we had a amazing time and would go back again.

Had a fabulous two weeks in these...

Had a fabulous two weeks in these apartments. Had originally booked Ayia Napa but a bit too "in your face" for us. After a nightmare delay of 9 hours leaving Dublin we finally reached our destination at 6.30am! Checked in very quickly with no fuss. Given keys to our room and we headed off to bed. The rooms were good size and spotlessly clean. Good sixze living area with kitchenette (2 rings, microwave, fridge, kettle, ample crockery and cutlery). Bathroom had bath, WC (towels changed every second day). There was also a hair dryer in the bedroom but I would advise to bring your own. The flex was only about 12 inches long and u cd not regulate the heat on it. It would burn your hair off !! Balcony not huge, just enough space for table and two chairs. there are no lights on the balcony and as we like to sit out and read in the evening this proved impossible. Also no clothes airer so bring pegs and a line. We paid Euro 10 for the airconditioning for the two weeks and received this back when we returned the remote control. Same with the TV. The safe deposit boxes are in reception and cost Euro 20 to hire for the two weeks.
There are lots of sunbeds in and around the pools (the apartments have their own pool area and the hotel pool can be accessed through the little walk way). We never saw any mad rush to put towels out (we went to the beach every day) and there always seemed to be plenty available. Guests int he apartments can avail of all the facilities of the hotel. U can also upgrade to B&B or half board when u arrive. We heard nothign but great reviews about the food served so we were sorry we hadn't done that.
The area around the hotel is very quiet. We could not find a decent beach near it so got a taxi each morning (Euro 7) to Bikini Beach. Beautiful golden sand and blue sea. There is a little restaurant there, Bikini Beach Bar, where u can get delicious snacks for lunch. Sunbeds cost Euro 2 each which was OK. We did venture to Fig Tree Bay one day but they were like sardines on the beach! there is a local bus that travels up and down to the beach. We never managed to catch in the morning but we used to get the 6.30pm back each evening and it left us at the top of the road near the hotel. Euro 1.35 each so a lot cheaper than the taxi.
There are 3 supermarkets in close proximity to the hotel. All selling much the same but we found the one at the bottom of the road (turn left out of the hotel - oppostite the taxi rank) the best. There is a little souvenir shop there too and we found it much cheaper than the ones up in Protaras.
The resort of Pernera is just a few mins walk away. There are some lovely little tavernas there and it is a lot quieter than the strip in Protaras. However, it is very small resort. At the top of the road we found a family run taverna, Bambos. The food to die for and very cheap. Try the house wine. So gorgeous.
Across the road from the hotel is Mochel. A beautiful restaurant. Looks very classy and expensive but its not. Food delicious and great service. We ate near the hotel every night in varioius little tavernas and just went up to Protaras for the mini golf. We did eat in the Flintstones restaurant one night and the food was not a bit nice. The worse meal of the entire holiday. However, there is a lovely restaurant on the main protaras road called Anatolia. We only discovered it few days before coming home and I would highly recommend it. The food lovely and plentiful and very very cheap. Service second to none. However, ask for a smoking area if u smoke. The place is air conditioned which was great as temp reached over 40 degrees when we there.
We ventured up to Ayia Napa one day to the beach. We had stayed there previously and decided to pay it a visit. The beach near the harbour is lovely (we stayed there in 2004 and it was so quiet). Howeverl it has got very crowded there now but plenty of sunbeds for everybody and lovely little restaurants for mid-day snacks. however, is was Euro 25 EACH WAY for the taxi.
We found Cyprus expensive even though we have Euro here at home. A meal out for the two of us was almost Euro 60 each night (we are not mad drinkers) whereas in Canaries same meal would be about Euro 40. However, having said that, Cyprus is a beautiful place and well worth the visit. I think next time I would stay in apartments a bit nearer the Protaras beaches and bit closer to the centre of things. I have absolutely no complaints about the Tsokkos Garden Apartments at all. The staff were friendly, the apartment cleaned every day and linen changed about 5 times during our stay. however, the weekend we left was a Bank Holiday in Cyprus and we had to leave our apartment at 10am which was a bit of a pain. Our flight home to Dublin was also cancelled and we ended up being put up in the Nicosia Hilton overnight. We spent the next day lounging by the pool in the Hilton (luxury not the word!) and we were very well treated there with all meals provided FOC. I would definitely return to Cyprus and Protaras but stay somewhere a bit nearer the beach next time.

Setting-
The hotel is set in a very quiet area with a few bars around if you want to go out.If not the main strip in protaras is a 10 minute walk or short taxi ride away.
A 3 minute walk from the hotel are paralimni beach and blue bay with Crystal clear waters and good for snorkelling, although you do have fig tree bay down in protaros which is well worth a visit. Shops are plentiful and very close.
Hotel-
The hotel is very inviting and well presented. During my stay I found the hotel clean and tidy. The rooms are much like those of the holiday inn resorts in the uk, same layouts and looks. Apart from the beds which were very hard, everything worked fine. The air con was free and it was defiantly welcomed as it was hitting 39 degrees during my stay and the heat was relentless.
Food and drink-
The food was okay, there was alway something for everyone. They have to cater for alot of guests so I was not expecting michelin star food.By upgrading to all inclusive upon arrival (very well worth doing) there was always snacks and drinks available during the day at no cost.
Entertainment-
I heard many people moan about the entertainment! For cying out loud people you were not staying at the hilton. I really dont know what they were expecting!Ive been on many holidays and this is the first ive been too with any form of entertainment. The four guys worked extremely hard to entertain and the typical brits did not want to get involved. The daytime activities took some of the boredom out of lazing round the pool and created some good friendships and competition between guests.
Staff-
I couldnt moan about the staff as they were extremely efficient. Always coming round and asking you if you needed a drink or food etc.. even during the day. Dont leave your plate for one second or it will be whisked away!
All in all I had a pleasant stay and made good friends. If your just looking to relax then this is the place for you. Agia napa is a couple of miles away for that one big night out.
My only let down was the food, by being able to eat 3 big meals a day, you start to lose your appetite and the food then becomes boring.
I hope this review helps.

The hotel was lovely, staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not 100% but lunch and diner was great and there was plenty of it to go around. I would definately go again. It certainly is a place to go and relax as there was not much to do other then water sports and the odd bit of shopping and sitting by the pool. The evening entertainment was also a laugh as it catered for all ages. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thankyou!

Hotel was clean and tidy.
The food good and plentiful.
Entertainment, hmmmm difficult to descibe, ...English and Blackpoolesque (given the amount of northeners there, you couldn't expect much else),...Bingo, karaoke, no Cypriot or Greek entertainment, very disappointing.
General area of Protaras has been completely overrun by the Brits, English pub here English breakfast there, Sunday roast, all the indigenous things you expect to find in a Cypriot/Greek island, you will not be told about any of this in your brochure.
So if expecting to find an island with culture and history go elsewhere, here you will find Blackpool in the sun with loud mouthed Brits swilling beer by the bucket load (makes you proud to be British......NOT!)
Great weather

Certainly learnt my lesson about going all inclusive in a hole like this hotel. Bar staff-rude!! I felt completely intimidated about claiming my free drinks (all inclusive!) as if I were stealing from their childrens mouths and as if they were monitoring and recording my every drink. Room's O.K. Pool lovely!! Restaurant manager like Jekyll and Hyde, lovely and friendly on a morning, nasty at night. Requesting a table for our large party to sit together he acted as if I had just asked him to strip naked and do the conga!! Free bar for all inclusives stopped at 1200 midnight and lights turned off at 5 past 1. Night manager sleeping on the sofa's and very angry at being disturbed by hungry paying customers!! One night vomit filled sink in poolside toilets and pile of vomit on reception floor. This hotel would probably be adequate for half board when you can escape at night but I implore you, do not book all inclusive unless you get a really good deal. Food quite nice, pool lovely, but general atmosphere and attitude of staff disgusting and totally unprofessional!!!!!!! This could be a fantastic hotel if not for staff. Thompson entertainment staff absolutely cheesily fantastic but would have liked a bit more variety on different nights. Hope this helps!!!
