Inside job, total joke, unhelpful and horrific

This is the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in.
At first my friend and I were placed in a love big spacious room with floor to ceiling widows along one wall and a large balcony which was a nice surprise. After two days our water stopped, toilet would not flush and electicity completely conked out. We went down to the front desk who then moved us (well, we moved ourselves) to the room opposite, a smaller room but with a lovely view from the balcony. This room was also on the fire exit at the far end of the building.
within the 2 days that followed, new guests let themselves into our room 4 times expecting the room to be unoccupied. at one point we had an extremely drunk and drugged up man jump onto my friend as she slept. really really unsafe.
On the 4th evening of being at this hotel my friend and I went down to the foyer to use the internet for half an hour. We went to transfer money because we were paying the deposit on our flat for the summer the next day. I locked the door to our room and checked it as i walked away. While we were downstairs the man at the reception asked us what room we were from and we told him. He then went outside, for approx 30 seconds on the phone. No reason for it really considering he was speaking in spanish we wouldnt of understood his conversation...
anyway by the time we went back upstairs, i unlocked the door and upon entering we found our room trashed. my blackberry from the safe had been stolen, along with a memory card with about 8 years worth of pics on it. as well as my digital camera and some vivienne westwood earrings. i was absolutely deverstated. the girls below our room had also been robbed as well as two rooms above us in the same time. all of which had had their rooms locked afterwards.
reception would not help us, telling us the police hated english people and we shouldnt bother reporting it. no help was given at all. there is cctv in the hotel but apparently it was switched off on this particular evening.
this hotel is a JOKE. the staff are all in on something dodgy! the police knew there was problems at this hotel. DONT stay there unless you want problems. people do not exagerate on how bad this place is!
i am STILL going through a complaints procedure and legal battle with the hotel and thomas cook after 7 months of alot of crap!! watchdog have also been informed of the security and safety of this hotel. do not stay here.

I was not happy about staying here, after reading the bad reviews especially the ones about money getting stolen however when we got there we found out the people who did get money stolen were the ones who were leaving their doors open and being careless.
Staff are really friendly, our toliette and air con were not working however when we mentioned it, they got fixed straight away!
Just make sure you keep your door shut and locked at all times because people do try to open your doors!!!
You do need to ask for towels and toilette paper, if you dont ask you dont get. Our beds were only changed once for the 2 weeks we stayed there, if your in the room when the maid comes they will miss you out!
If you dont like noise, I wouldnt come here, this hotel is really lively and noisy especially on the afternoon and at night!!
And a warning to you all becareful when walking to and back at the hotel at night because a spanish man has tried to get one of our friends bags and there were 3 of us, he was not seen, we asume he was hidden behind a car, so watch your back!!!

Don't Stay Here!!

Don't stay here!!
Upon arrival at the Catalina they told us they were fully booked so we'd have to stay somewhere else for a night...the place they took us to was horrible, no air con, absolute joke.
Every time we got back from a night out the receptionist was asleep, didn't care who was coming or going, would give anyone a key to any room.
We went out one night, locked the door and the balcony, came back, everything was still locked up but the room had been totally robbed, phones, cameras, money, found out this had happened to loads of other people staying there, we think it was an inside job.
The water in the shower is salt water - disgusting! No cutlery in the kitchen, rusty hob.
Basically the place is a dump, and unsafe. If you want to be robbed stay here!

Is this a wind up!!

Had to stop in this hotel after been moved from the Don Pepe because they lied to us and said the water was switched off apparantly they always lie to British!
Got to the hotel at 1030pm the receptionist could only speak basic english and was rude!
Got into the rooms a 2 and two 3's
>Air con only worked in one room after paying for the remote and the one which worked leaked all over the bed.
>The Balcony in one of the rooms was 1 metre square and the view was into someone elses room
>Only one of the balcony doors locked
>Rooms where scruffy and basic no stuff in the kitchen to make a meal
>Showers where rubbish and the water was salty
>Toilet constantly flushing in one of the rooms
Come out the room on the first night to hear off one of the other people in the hotel that her room had been broke into and it is a regular occurance. No surprise because the security on a night just sleeps and if you wake him he will give you the key to any room without asking any questions!
The hotel took our passports and tickets to copy them and when we went to get them back they had lost the tickets which included the return flight and return transfers! They were no help when we asked them for assisstance and after three days of rude and no help we gave in and phoned the operator direct!
Overall i think your taking a risk stopping in this hotel think we were lucky nothing got pinched would never stopped in this hotel ever again only good thing is the location!

worst place i've ever seen.

Jun 2010, catalinaisamink

Arrived 5th june 2010 at midday,
- Extremely rude receptionists
- Paid for a sea view and got the view of a building site
- The water you wash/cook with is salt water.
- The toilet flush was falling off.
- Dishes and cutlery were all filthy
- TV doesn't work (even after buying the remote)
- Drawers were all broken
- Bed sheets were curtains.
- Damp and mould everywhere
- Dirt and hair all over the floor
At midnight, the 2 of us staying in the room left to go to privelige. We came home at around half 4 (we had taken our hotel key with us). We get into the room, no signs of a break-in. We had our own padlocks on our suitcases, we had the only keys on us at privelige. The balcony was locked, as was the door. Yet somehow, my friend's £300 camera, all of his money (800 euros), all of his clothes (roughly £500 worth), my iPod, his hand luggage, electricals were all missing.
The fact that a key was obviously used, hints towards this being the hotel stealing from guests.
After disocovering this, we went to reception to find the receptionist asleep. Handy. Phoned the police and they can only log what was stolen and get in touch if it turns up, which is never going to happen.
Due to the fact they had stolen medical precriptions along with everything else, we had to pay for the first flights we could get home.
I would give it a 0 if I could, I ignored all the bad reviews because I thought people were just expecting too much, such a big mistake, do not stay here, what you will lose in belongings doesn't match half of what paying for a good hotel is worth.

Shatalina

We renamed this hotel the "Shatalina" for a reason. Thinking we were going on a nice three day break to Ibiza for the Space closing party, didn't turn out that great, thank you Hotel Shatalina. It sounded ideal for our budget, reasonably priced, right on the sunset strip and the pictures of the hotel rooms looked ok.
Firstly, I do not know where they got the picture for the hotel room, but it was certainly not in this hotel.
Our first room, we had to move out of as the rain started to seep into the hotel and flood the rooms, corridors and entrance. At least it helped us understand why we had the black mould damp patch on the wall. The bathroom flooded, creeping it's way into our bedroom, this did not help the bathroom as it stank of urine when we arrived. There were ants creeping through our clothes, bugs in beds and something that I can only describe as "strangely sticky" on the other bed. The towels provided were shockingly dirty, as in I would not dry an animal with them, and when I requested more, I received foot mats of the same state and the TV in both our rooms did not work.
Oh and if you want the loo, you will have to go and get loo roll as for some reason, they apparently do not supply the hotel with loo roll. All of these positive attributes ended up with us leaving the hotel and finding another one.
If you are looking for a cheap place to stay, do not stay here, find somewhere which is cleaner than this.
The only thing that this hotel has got going for it, is the internet access, so you can book somewhere else.

1* hotel....If that

I'll put it briefly, so i dont bore you too much... Arrived at hotel... took 20minutes getting a key, very rude polish receptionist, room was passable for clean,at first.. balcony door didnt lock (apparently most dont)... during course of stay jumper, coat , hat , phone, money and aftershave!!! was stolen...... by the maids, MONEY, PHONE AND AFTERSHAVE WAS IN SAFE..maids have skeleton key, whats the point in a safe then!... police didnt want to get involved,
walls are paper thin and you can hear everything , including the people on top floor.. we were on 1st... maids banging doors at 10 am!... seeing as we were getting in at 7am ,this was not ideal..
Rain flooded ALL balcony's as they didnt have drain holes. You have small hob and NO kitchen utensils. Fridge door was broken... contents didnt stay cold. no cups, knives, forks etc supplied.
Bed sheets NOT changed all week.
2minutes after leaving room maids were in there smoking on the bed, laughing.NO ROOMS HAVE SEA VIEW.
GOOD POINTS - location is ok.
All in all.. all we wanted from the hotel (being a young group of people aged 22-25) was clean sheets and secure safe and maybe a cold fridge for the beer and we didnt even get that, STAY HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK.. i did warn ya.

Absolutely Disasterous!!!

The Catalina - San Antonio, in the space of one year since I stayed there last summer has instantly gone from one of the best, to definitely the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The list of nightmares does go on but I urge you to read this review before agreeing to stay there.
I'll take it from the top...
We had three rooms to accomodate 10 people (4,3,3) all requested to be adjacent - they put us on seperate floors. Each room is only allocated 1 key each which is inconvenient to say the least. After requesting another key on the second day we were told to leave the key at reception whilst we went to the beach for a swim. Upon our return, all my money, Camera, watch and necklace had been stolen with no damage to the door - The duty staff offered absolutely no assistance or empathy. What a coincidence? At the very least the hotel staff are probably theives.
Our rooms were described as Self Catering, 4 beds to a room with Kitchenette (including fridge), Air conditioning, Television and Balcony...
Room 1:
No Balcony
TV not working
Air Conditioning not working at all
Bathroom mirror light not working
Rooms 2:
Fridge not working
TV not working
Air conditioning not working at all
Room 3:
Air condition not working effectively.
After reporting the faults to the hotel on numerous occassions nothing was repaired/replaced. A handyman was sent to resolve the problems with the Air Con in rooms 1 and 2 and the fridge in room two but no attempt was made to resolve the issues and the guy shrugged his shoulders and left without as much as looking at a toolbox...
Out of the 10 people that travelled, 8 of us complained of being bitten by bed bugs/mites.
Fellow holiday makers in room 214 had their door kicked in and the door of room 212 couldn't be shut or locked at all as there was no door handle!!
We did speak to a couple on the last day who complained of no air con or fridge facilities.
The worst and most dangerous hotel scenario I've seen must be the massive leak in the hotel roof. On the 4th or 5th night of our holiday the heavens opened which wouldn't be a problem as we were all in bed until we were awaken to the sound of running water from the bathroom (at first I thought a mate was having a shower) when I worked out that wasnt the case, I was greeted with water running through the ceiling from the main light with more pressure than the shower itself. We're not even on the top floor so I can only imagine that the water had run through the room above down to ours and left us in two inches of water. At the bottom of the stairwell in the hotel we measured 4 inches of water! The couple mentioned previously also mentioned that they had been flooded as well...
Photo and video evidence of this has been recorded.
Security at the hotel is very lax. If we arrived back at the hotel at any time without a key we could be let into any room just by giving a hotel room number, no ID required.
The communal sofa's and chairs were missing cushions and slats to the chairs.
Admittedly the location of the hotel is ideal for the West End and Sunset Strip (You can see the Sunset from your room if you get a good view - less than 30% of rooms have a sunset view) and the staff on reception were very polite and well mannered although not very useful or helpful with problems.
All things considered this was by far the worst hotel I've stayed in (in the world) and would highly advise against staying there, regardless of how cheap it may be.
Basic, but Good hotels would be The Casita Blanca and Piscis Park. The Tropical is expensive but one the best just off the West End.

  • Advice: Mental nights out in the West End, something for eveyrone!
  • Activities: David's restaurant and Tijuana are both good. Avoid La Cantina by Koppas - Awful!

Poor

I was really unimpressed with these apartments.
I appriciate they were really cheap and in a wicked location but have stayed in other cheap accomodation in ibiza which was of a much higher quality.
When we turned up the man on reception took about half an hour to check us in as he was ignoring us and making phonecalls, walking away, making another phonecall and generally trying to pretend we weren't there!
The room was pretty horrible, with the cupboard doors broken off, what looked like a vomit stain on one wall and a blood stain on the sheets. The water coming out the taps and shower was salt water so we had to brush our teeth with bottled water. My friends room had a kind of indoor balcony thing that backed onto 3 other balconys and did not lock so anyone could just walk into your room and i'm really not surprised there are a lot of thefts from this place.
We were there 4 days and our towels and sheets were not changed once, and the first time we saw a maid was when she was kicking us out the room on the last day. There was a place to store luggage although it looked really unsafe, was basically a shed on the side of the hotel with a broken lock. We were offered showers as we had to check out our room, although when we asked for towels were told there 'wasn't any'. in a hotel....great.
I have been to Ibiza 5 times and stayed in a few places and am really not a princess and am not bothered by basic accomodation but i think you can expect a minimum level of cleanliness and and a secure room which we did not get here. I would advise people not to stay here! if you want cheap accomodation S'Anfora and Flemming is much much much nicer!

Absolute Shambles

When we arrived at the Catalina we were told, by the receptionist, that there had been a fight in our room. She said the furniture had been trashed and there was blood everywhere. She told us we'd have to stay in the Don Pepe. She said that there was not a room for 3 and we'd have to stay in 2 double rooms. I told her that that was not possible because that would mean one of us staying in a room by ourselves. And being a young woman in a foreign country that prospect was quite daunting. Eventually after much arguing a triple room 'magically' appeared. I was told I could not speak to the manager until the morning so we had no choice but to stay at the Don Pepe.
We had booked the Catalina because we wanted a sea view and were willing to pay extra for this. The Don Pepe, was up the road and had no sea view. The 3 beds were pushed together to make 'one giant bed' and the kitchenette was in a cupboard. The air con did not work. The receptionist at the Don Pepe was helpful and agreed to give us the Safety Deposit Box for free.
I spoke to the Manager the next day and he said he could not get us into the Catalina that night but a room would be available the night after. I agreed that we would stay at the Don Pepe 1 more night but we would only pay for the nights we stayed at the Catalina and not the nights we stayed at the Don Pepe.
When we moved down to the Catalina I was pleased with the room. We had one of the few rooms where the view was excellent and although the room was small it was big enough for sleeping and changing. However, the shower was cold. One night it was so cold my friend couldn't wash her hair because she couldn't bear it. The maids did not come to our room for the whole stay and when we went to reception to ask for more toilet roll we were told the hotel had run out.
When it came to checking out and paying for our room we were told we had to pay the full amount. I explained to the receptionist that I had agreed with the manager that we'd only be paying for the 5 nights we stayed at the Catalina. She said 'no' we had to pay the full amount. I asked to see the manager. She called him and asked him to come down. He did not come down but he sent someone who worked for him. She also told us we had to pay the full amount so I explained again the agreement with the manager. She called him and he said we could have 1 night free and if we did not pay they would call the Police. I asked to speak to him myself but he would not come to the hotel or talk to me on the phone. I was becoming very frustrated. The receptionist found the whole situation quite funny and was laughing throughout.
DO NOT STAY HERE! In fact I wouldn't stay at any GPS group hotels ever again. I had read on here before I booked that people had been relocated to cheaper hotels that they hadn't booked but didn't think it would happen to me.

Not bad for basic value accomodation
7 / 10
Aug 2009, ibizarox2009

Just come back from a week staying at the Catalina studios - group of 4 girls. They're basic and you get what you pay for, but it was absolutely fine for what we wanted, a place to crash in. You don't go to Ibiza to spend a lot of time in your room! We had a fab time and this was fine as a base for the week
Main points:
- towels were changed daily if you dumped them on the floor of the bathroom, although they liked to give you teensy ones, we asked for bigger
- sheets were changed three times during the week
- bathroom was big enough for all our various toiltries, and enough plugs in the room for hairdryers/straighteners for 4 girls getting ready at once! Big mirror in the room as well as in the bathroom as well.
- we had to ask for extra sheets and glasses on the first day, as there weren't enough for all four of us, but they brought them straight away
- there was also no cutlery, very random crockery, a lonely ladel and just 2 pans to cook with - but we ate out all the time anyway and just used the fridge for drinks, so no problem. Try the breakfast at cafe mambo or ibiza rocks diner they're amazing.
- location is fantastic, right on the sunset strip (not all rooms have a view though, ours didn't), easy stumbling to west end, clubs and beaches, and not generally too noisy later on.
- no pool here, although wasn't a problem for us, we swam in the sea every day and if you want to lounge by a pool, go round to the beach bars at Cala des Moro (about 5 mins walk) which have great views too.
Basically if you want better accomodation, then you need to pay for it, if you're not ridiculously fussy and want somewhere basic to sleep and keep your stuff, then this place is more than adequate and fantastic location.

Most of the lower evauluations are over exaggerated - on my first girly holiday with 5of my girl mates catalina was an amazing place to stay - the room are basic but thats all you need as your not in them for long - everyone is friendly and made some buddies in the hotel. Safe is a must as there were talk of theft, but thats what its like everywhere - as long as you kept your door locked you are fine!! we had the best balcony looking over the sunset - above cafe savannah - overall we had a great holiday and had no problems with Catalina!!! Loved Ibiza
