Stayed here Christmas 2008. An impressive looking hotel, with great views (we stayed on 39th floor). Room was tidy, reasonably spacious and was cleaned daily. Staff were always polite and very helpful. Best thing about the Westin NY is by far the location: about 15min walk... more

Two months ago we travelled to New York for the first time. It was absolutely amazing! We stayed at Westin Times Square. It was expensive but worth it. You should try Carnegie Deli and ask for a Woody the biggest sandwich you will ever experience nowhere. Tavern On The... more

We stayed in this hotel over the New Year period as it is located just off Times Square. It has a lovely entrance area and the staff on reception were very welcoming. We had booked a fitness room and the equipment in the room was of a high standard and the room was very... more

liked the Westin, beware of your phone bill
I liked the Westin very much. Liked the modern furniture, great bed, good view , we were on the 20th floor overlooking the Hudson river. Very fast elevators, you never have to wait. The room was pretty quiet considering that your are very close to Times Square. The hotel is not on Times Square. I did not like that they charge for everything including the fitness club, the coffee in the room, $5.00 for a small bottle of water, the high speed internet- even though this was advertised in a way it seemed like it was included in the room rate (very deceptive). Watch your bill. I made a local call and a few 800 calls; They charged me $49.00 for the local call and overcharged me with $5-$6 for the 800 calls. I complained of course and they took it off. However, the bill was now completely incomprehensible an still incorrect, with taxes for the internet hidden somewhere in the phone costs. I complained again and they were unable to fix it. This is a real problem for me because the accountance people in my company are very picky. I am also wondering if they have a scam going on. If they consistently overcharge for phone calls with a few dollars they could make quite a bit of money. I would never have noticed if they would not have overcharged me with such a huge amount on one call. Staff was courteous. Overall I liked the hotel well enough that I would come back.
nice corner room
i stayed at the westin time square dec 18-20 had a nice stay there. make sure to get a corner room, they have great views. service was ok. remember this is not the ritz as far as service goes.
Greet Location and Bed
Location was great and the hotel was clean and modern. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. No complaints.
Modern Design Lovers' Dream
My partner and I stayed at the hotel in September and had a fantasic visit. We felt very welcome, which is always a plus. To say we were impressed is an understament. In fact we left wishing they would turn the building into condo flats. This would make a great investment for weekend pleasure trips. The building is very modern and not for everyone. Those that appreciate forward architectural design will enjoy the bold Architechtonica design. Lots of details, including sliding glass doors to bathrroms, beautiful grey tile and aluminum basins. The beds include beautiful pillows and the windows contian subtible panes of color. Plus location in near everything including all the broadway theaters, Times Sqaure. and your not far from both Central Park and even Madison Sqaure Gradens and Penn Station. Ask for a corner room in "39" stack for a special treat.
Outstanding
Absolute luxury. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, a fantastic view facing NJ, a prime Times Square location (with no traffic noise) and outstanding service from the staff. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.
Fabulous--Heavenly--clean and comfortable incredible view from our corner room
However, not family friendly. Very few rooms with 2 beds and they did not have roll-aways and I requested one 3 weeks prior. Mini Bar....the most expensive I have ever seen and they charge you to call the front desk......If money is not an object..you will love the comfortable room, bed and shower and view!
Can't Beat Location
Had a great 4 night stay at the Westin in early November. I got a government rate in the club room and the only thing wrong was we were facing into the main atrium and it was rather noisy at times. The room was 400sq ft and very spacious for 3 of us. I loved the beds as they were so comfy. The bathroom was of a decent size but I'd rather have had one shower head with more power than 2 heads with reasonable pressure. Decent enough continental breakfast as part of the package. I was happy enough with what we paid but don't know if i'd have paid top rate.
Not worth the money
Stayed here for five days in September. It was our first visit to New York (usually do California) so I decided to pay more than I usually would and treat my partner and I to a high end property. The only thing this hotel really has going for it is it's location and it's architecture. I was very disappointed with the room. It was too stark and modern for my liking. The bathroom was worse. It looked like something out of a prison! Give me marble opulence any day over an aluminium wash basin. The "Heavenly" bed drowned me (I'm 5'4"). The duvet and covers were far too heavy. Before I wrote this I read a few other reviews and was surprised to find that not having your room tidied had happened to other people too. This is the only hotel I've ever stayed in where the room was not tidied upon my arrival back after a long day out. Considering the price they are charging you really don't get much. If you are loaded - go ahead spend your money- if you are on a regular budget I really don't recommend this property as the treat you are hoping it will be.
Hated it
Where do I start? Luis at front desk check-in says "you're going to love this room." Really? he didn't mention the constant noise of slamming doors due to the room being across the hall from the maintenance and linen closets; the honor bar refill lady said she'd be back at 8 a.m. Sunday morning to start up her ruckus again. We were moved to another room that had broken glass all over the carpet ! On our second day, noone cleaned the room - amazing for all that money we paid. Third day, the maid told my girlfriend they wouldn't be changing our sheets because they'd run out of clean sheets; this despite the little post card they gently place on your cushy pillow that reads: "We will make your bed every day. Your linens will be changed only when this card is placed on the bed in the morning."So of course I spoke to the apologetic manager who promised a prompt correction and insisted I call him later to confirm that new sheets were on the bed. Well guess what? no new sheets ( I marked a corner of a sheet with a pencil just so I could see for myself). The manager was beside himself and said he was angry that his staff was lying to him, and he gave me a credit for an entire night's stay.Other than that, the staff was rude, the hotel was sterile, the rooms were filthy. They've invested big dollars into hardware - beds, baths, furniture - but they don't take care of them, and their service is literally worse than a motel chain. AVOID THIS PROPERTY.
mixed- great views, nice gym
Everyone on the staff at this hotel is extremely pleasant and polite, which is a real plus, however, some were not at all knowledgeable about basic functions at the hotel. I had a corner room on a high floor. It was not large, but had a spectacular view of the Hudson River and the Empire State Building, which neutralized the remarkably unattractive decor of the room. The bed was comfortable and the room was functional. The bathroom was cavernous and cold, but the great view helped to balance this and make it more pleasant. There were too many minor annoyances for a hotel this price- phone not connected, iron malfunctioned, shower curtain dirty, to name a few. Also, the hotel nickel-and-dimes you, with charges for the gym and by providing only one free coffee in your room (if you want more, you have to buy it from the mini-bar). The gym is well-equipped, spacious and has a nice view. If this hotel were less expensive, the negatives would be less important. If they would brighten up the decor, warm up the bathroom, drop the gym charge and be less stingy with the coffee, I would make this my regular NY hotel. The other annoyance is that they refuse to guarantee a specific type of room until you check in, which is unacceptable to me.
