This was an extremely cheap place to stay, it only cost us about £40 each for two nights’ accommodation. The downside was that because this was a hostel it wasn't the most luxurious place, the room was pretty small and contained bunk beds and the showers were cold, but trying to find somewhere else in Manhattan to stay that was this cheap!
They actually had a really nice breakfast room with free coffee, juice, and bagels for breakfast, and there was an outside courtyard which would be great to sit out in during the summer.
The hostel is in the uptown but is within a 5 minute walk to the Guggenheim, Central Park or the nearest subway station. If you want to walk into downtown it’s a lovely walk through the park and takes about half an hour to get to the top of 5th Avenue where all the great shops start.
As for New York itself, it’s a great place to go, the City really never sleeps. We did plenty of shopping on our trip but you could equally spend a whole week visiting museum, galleries, going up skyscrapers, visiting Liberty or Ellis Island and numerous other touristy things. The nightlife is excellent, especially if you head down to areas such as Greenwich Village or Soho, but Times Square is also worth a visit at night to soak up all the neon lights.
