We have just returned from holiday in this hotel. Upon arrival late at night, we agree the bedrooms were a dissapointment, definately not 5 star. However, the next morning when we viewed the surroundings all was not bad. In fact we all had a fantastic holiday, the food... more

I booked with Thomson and was surprised to end up in Limassol as I was told I'd booked an allocation on arrival in Paphos deal! Anyway, I was not too impressed with Limassol itself. It is a busy place, much more developed than Paphos. However, the hotel is set back somewhat... more

Just come back from this hotel and it was lovely. The hotel is lovely and all the staff are so friendly and helpful. We met lots of people who were on their 12th time to this hotel!
The location is nice, not too close to the main bars etc but within easy walking distance.
Definitely would go back!

Old clientele this time of the year
Visited Cyprus many times, but this is the first time we have been in the winter months. The hotel was quite nice, but as a young family (with teenager) was surprised to see the place full of older people, no one else young at all. On our first venture into the restaurant we thought we had mistakenly gone into a nursing home! Clearly, Jan Feb and March is the time when the older holiday makers make use of the cheap deals and stay for at least a month, wish I had known this when I had booked and I wouldn't have bothered. I'm not convinced that this hotel deserves its 5* rating. All amenities quite standard, the rooms were ok but a bit tired. The grounds around the pool area were lovely, and we were told this area had recently been done up, so I think its time they started re-furbishing their rooms too - bathroom about a 2* rating. The food on half-board was fairly basic, none too exciting. The buffet was not very extensive, and it seemed that once something had gone that was it and you didn't stand much chance of them replenishing it (especially with the sweets and cheeses) We did venture into the new Japaneese Restaurant, where an allowance of 6CYP was given per person against the cost of your bill. As the buffet meal was advertised at 13CYP I think it would have been more in order to give you that as your allowance rather than just 6CYP each. However the meal in there was really lovely. It was a shame the place was empty (so lacking in atmostphere) but it was midweek, and none of the older guests seemed to go in there. Entertainment was abysmal, each evening was just an organist playing pre-war music. All in all we were very bored on this holiday, and felt like fish out of water. It was also made worse by the fact that Limassol itself was more or less closed, so there was little to do outiside of the hotel too. My advice is dont go in the winter months if you are of the younger generation (ie below 60). I will certainly chose my time more carefully next time.
Great value
My wife and I have just returned from the Louis Apollonia in Limassol. One week in early Feb 07 was just £480 half board with Expedia for the two of us (Flights not included). We had a double sea view on 5th floor. Lovely room, great view, best hotel food we've ever had. The restaurant staff are mainly from Eastern Europe, and are the best we've ever encountered. All this plus glorious weather, when it was snowing in UK, made for an excellent Winter break. One small complaint was the Internet room. Just 2 old PCs, and you had to feed 50 cents pieces into a meter, which ate them up so fast, that you would be fortunate to have enough time to even read your emails, let alone reply. There is a very well equipped Internet Cafe just across the road, if you can stand the owner's constant smoking, and the noisy kids playing games. If you go, ask for half an hour for 75 cents, otherwise they'll tell you the minimum is 1 hr for 1.50 Cyp.
Saved by my kid
I stayed here a couple of years ago. My experience was average and for a few pounds more I could have stayed at Four Seasons which is the best hotel in Limassol by far. I tried to make a reservation for this month but they told me it was an adults only hotel. I was saved since I got a better price at Mediterranean.
Louis Apollonia perfect
Limassol Cyprus Louis Apollonia, "Perfect" Date March 14th 2006 Reviewer: A TripAdviser Member, Rutland UK A little late my review, but as there doesnt seem to be many reviews for this Hotel I thought I should add one. We had a very enjoyable holiday at the Apollonia last March, we had a lovely room right on the top floor a little dated but very clean and if we had any complaints they were soon dealt with, all the staff were very nice and polite. Re-furbishment work was still in progress outside and in the new Japanese restaurant, which we should have been told about before the holiday but we were not, so the holiday company gave us vouchers for our next holiday! we will be going again! next March and look forward to seeing the finished work. The food was excellent, wonderful buffet for 3 nights and waiter service for 4 nights and the breakfasts were good too. On a Sunday you can take a short walk along the road towards the Amathus direction to a small out door theatre a listen to the most wonderful Greek musicians and watch Greek dancing.
Very relaxing, very pleased
We chose the Apollonia because it was rated quite well here, was adult-only, and seemed to be near useful ameneties if things were not great at the hotel. We wanted a quiet, relaxing week in the sun. The hotel was quiet. The pool area was never so busy we couldn't get loungers. There was adequate shade for those hot times, and the pool was clean and a good size for swimming. Just below the pool area is a small (maybe 5m wide strip) dark sand beach with walled in (and so calm) water. Very pleasing. There is a nice open-air bar by the pool, looking out over the sea. There were usually 2 or 3 girls tending the bar and service was not too slow, as some have observed here. Beer was about 2 cyprus pounds for a pint. Elsewhere the same beer could be had for half that. We were half board, so breakfast plus either lunch *or* dinner. Dinner was inside, semi-formal (no short trousers) and mostly buffet, although sometimes set menu. Buffet food was very good and plenty of variety. Lunch served outside and similar to evening buffet, but less choice. Can also go a-la-carte, but we didn't. You won't starve if you stay here. No problems getting a table at any of the times we dined. The hotel has a small but well equipped gym and large indoor pool. Outside the hotel, is the main road going east out of Limassol. This meant that it's a bit less manic, but still very well stocked with bars and restaurants. Many bars sold local beer (Keo, Leon) for a cyprus pound (approx £1). Also, many bars had big screens showing English Premiership and Champions League football games. For us, this was just splendid :-) Downsides? Well, this was supposed to be adult-only (over 16s only) and about mid week, a some Russian tourists arrived with two young boys in the group. They were fairly well behaved, but I was still a tad annoyed as adult-only was a reason for booking. Some photos of my trip at http://www.flickr.com/photos/goron/sets/72157594314132159/
Good - but not outstanding
We stayed at the Appolonia Beach Hotel for 7 nights. The choice of hotel and location was based on the fact that I love Cyprus, and I enjoyed staying in Limassol 2 years ago (at the four seasons hotel). We wanted a good class of hotel and wanted to be within walking distance of the main part of the resort. The Hotel centainly meets the criteria of being within walking distance of the main resort, as it probably has the best position in Limassol - very close to the many bars and restaurants of the resort. The Hotel also commands a wonderful position on the beach. The sea view rooms are quite breath taking and are well worth paying the upgrade price for. There are taxi's available from the hotel doorstep and a bus stop in located almost next to the hotel. Perfect for getting out and about. Taxi's can be expensive and prices do seem to vary depending in who the driver is. As always, its best to agree a price before jumping in. The Rooms are fairly standard for this type of hotel and were clean and large enough for the 2 of us. The Public areas are very nice. The Pool is lovely and overlooks the sea, There is a Bar and lunch time Restaurant here. The Restaurant has an outstanding location - right above the beach. It was a truely relaxing way to eat lunch, listening to the waves breaking on the beach and drinking a cool beer. The Lobby Bar was nice and clean, but it is a bit too small for the size of the hotel. seats are hard to get and you will often need to sit on the chairs outside. The service at the bar was poor during our stay. The hotel being 5 star uses a waiter service. Trying to get the attention of a waiter is truly a work of art. You could wait 30mins before anyone notices you. Many people simply gave up and went to the bar, which was serviced by 1 overworked - barman. The drinks are also expensive, but this is to be expected in this type of hotel. There was occasional music performed by "live" artists. This was quite dreary and depressing so we opted to spend most nights out in the more livelier bars in town. Meals are served in 3 different restaurants. Breakfast is taken in a nice restaurant with the option to sit outside. The Breakfast food was very good - no complaints. Lunch is served at the Beach/Pool Restaurant and has the option of buffet or up-grade to A la carte. The choice is very good. Dinner is taken in the main Restaurant and this is supprisingly small. You will often have to share tables with other diners - you'l either love that or hate it (Personally, I hated it). The choice was not good enough for a 5 star hotel and I was very disapointed. The Hotel also has an A La Carte Restaurant located outside in the gardens and this was very good. You need to reserve a table a couple of days in advance but it is well worth it. The food is very good and the night time setting is very impressive. Its a shame this was not the main hotel Restaurant. The Staff were a mixed bunch. Some of the staff are very friendly and will always get to know and help you, whilst others seem to hide away at every oppertunity and are not very professional. Perhaps we were spoilt by staying at the vastly superior four seasons hotel last time, but in my opinion this was an average hotel with many more (lower graded) hotels offering you better service and better value for money. So there you have it, the hotel is fairy good, but not outstanding.
Great food
Me and my partner went to this hotel fo 11 nights half board, and i put on 3lbs(food was great) you must try the soup....amazing. they did 4 course meals every other night, and a buffet the other nights. the drink prices wernt to bad in the restaurent, but in the bar, VERY EXPENSIVE!!!but as the entertainment wasnt really for us we didnt drink there(only the once). we always went over the road for a drink (greek place) cheap drink a vodka and coke for 1.50cyp!and course we went there every night, steve the bar man gave us doubles! theres is a KFC and mcdonalds down the road(to close, as my partner keep wanting some). the POOl was great, the deepest outdoor pool i have ever seen, the hotel has some cats the are always around, they love water, so every morning i would give them some. the mini fridge was expensive so we didnt use it, but we did store our bottles of water is there. as it was my partners 21st bday the hotel provided a free bottle of champange for us.very nice of them. a must is the water park, get the bus outside the hotel and it cost 1.50cyp return each and u can buy water park tickets at the hotel(as it saves quering it is busy at the park), takes about 25mins, the water park is great, we spent all day there, food prices there are very resonable. its a pretty long walk down to the old town, but the number 50 bus goes up and down the coast, 70 cents each way. DONT go to the reptile place- not worth it!! there is a nice cocktail bar down the road called "malibu", there is a 18 hole pitch and putt, open till very late, thats pretty fun. ] we paid extra for a sea view room, WELL WORTH IT!!!!amazing views, so quiet,. rooms are a very good size, every a radio thing in bathroom!!!the hotel is a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not quite 5 Star
Chose this Hotel in Sept 2005 to celebrate our 25th Wedding Annivesary, staying for 1 week Half Board. Agree with many of the comments made by the only other reviewer to date and would concur with comments especially on prices both within the Hotel but also in Cyprus in general. I thought it would have been alot cheaper. During our stay the Hotel the Hotel was promoting changes, due to be made in May 2006, this is to include the addition and introduction of Tea/Coffee making facilities, Bathrobes and Slippers in all rooms, as well restricting future guests to 16 years of age and over. Cleanliness was genearlly good, however, hotel is showing it's age in some places, especially the rooms, as such it falls short in my opinion in deserving of 5 Star status. Location was good with the bus service on your doorstep. Staff were excellent and very friendly, especially the waiters/waitresses who are a credit to the Hotel. Received a bottle of plonk from the Hotel on our arrival to celebrate our special ocassion. Very good pool and recreational facilities, however, disappointed in the private beach (not exactly white/golden sand). Overall holiday good, mared only by the expensive price of food and drink in the hotel itself.
Lowdown on the Apollonia Beach
This five star hotel is well located in the tourist area of Limassol between the sea and the busy coast road. We had a sea view room, which came at a premium but was well worth having. The Hotel is spotlessly clean and bed linen and towels are changed daily. The maids also provide a night service check on the rooms. There are ample sun beds around the pool and on the small beach and beach towels are provided from the Health Club. The main pool is unusually deep and it is not recommended for small children or poor swimmers there is a children’s pool and the sandy beach slopes very gently providing shallow water for those who just want to paddle with the fishes. Breakfast is buffet service with ample variety for all tastes. We were told that dinner in the main restaurant would be waiter service five nights a week. This proved not to be the case, and in our second week four nights were buffet service meals. The hotel has a problem here since serving areas in this restaurant are small and buffet replenishment inadequate. Many of us had the impression that we needed to eat early to ensure a variety of food would be available this led to congestion in the serving area and exacerbated the problem of replenishment. Drinks were expensive outside ‘happy hour’ and the bar was not well attended most of the time, guests frequented some of the many bars and pubs in the area. Entertainment was very basic. Over all this is a nice hotel that does not live up to its 5 star billing. We spoke to a number of guests who had stayed at the hotel over a number of years, and they generally felt that standards had slipped.
Great Hotel
Spent 2 weeks at this hotel, end Oct/beg Nov 2004 and would definitely recommend it. It isn’t the most modern of 5 star hotels in Limasol but the service and cleanliness was fantastic. The maids visited our room twice daily and all communal areas, pool and gardens etc were immaculate. Food was very good, we stayed half board and you could change evening meal to lunch if you wanted. We found the location better than all the other 5 star hotels. Unfortunately we had a mountain view, which was on the main road, although set back. We only had 1 very noisy night with traffic but I guess this could be a problem in high season. It is well worth having a sea view room, which we will do when we revisit. All the staff were friendly and the private beach was fantastic. The bar prices were expensive in the hotel but plenty of choice on the doorstep. The bus service was frequent and stopped outside the hotel. We got definite value for money.
